ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE

A pair of identical leggings, in one piece, is disclosed and is adapted to cover the front and sides of a cyclist's legs as well as the feet to protect the cyclist from rain, while providing adequate ventilation. The side edges of the leggings are provided with elastic strip material to ensure that the leggings remain on contact with the legs, even when the knees are flexed. Attachment means are provided at the waist and upper rear portion of each leg.
Retaining means are provided all along the perimeter of the foot portion of the leggings.

FIELD OF THE INVENTION
.. ... ~
The present invention relate~ to srticles of clothing, more specifically to a new type of protsctive rain gear adapted to protect a cycllst's lower body and legs from gstting wet.
8ACKGROUND DF TH~ INVENTION
To ride in the rain, cycllst~ and motorcycli~ts frequently havs to re60rt to makeshift apparel in order to prevent them6elves from getting wet. For example, motorcycli~ts are known to resort to waterproof pants which are worn over rubber boots. Such clothing tend~ to be bulky, heavy and hot. For ordinary cyclists, such clothing is practically out of the question, because of its charscteristics, especially lack of ventilation.
Since a cyclist needs protection only against rain and splash-ings from passing motorists or puddles, essentially airborne water from the front direction, it is not necessary to provide pants which protect all of the legs. ~oreover, feet are rflrely subJect to ~ubmersion.
ûOJECTS ûf THE INVENTION
Accordlngly, it 1~ a first object of the present lnvention to provlde a pair of legglngs for cyclists whlch cover only the front snd sides of the legs, as well as the top portions of the feet and whlch la made all ln one piece.
It 18 another object of the present inventlon to provide rain cover for the leg~ as described above, whlch 18 very lightweight ~nd whlch adhere~ closely to the front and sldes of the legs, even when the legs are bent at the knee, wlth minimum number of straps and attachment for rapld and easy instsllation.
It 19 yet another obJect of the present invention to provide rsin cover for the legs~ whlch is very lnexpensive snd which may be conveniently rolled up in a 8m811 bundle when not needed.
SU~ARY OF THE INUENTlON
The above and othsr objects and advantage~ oY the present invention are realized according to a preferred embodiment comprising a palr of legging~, each rusching from the waist to the heel and made _ 2 -~ .:

To propsrly ~scure the lsgging6 to a wsarer attachmsnt, meanA are provid0d at the waist and al~o at th~ uppsr rsar portion of each leg. Ths vertical sids edges o~ ~ach legging conusrga at tha lowar leg~ to be joined at the hsel.
Retsining m~anQ are also provided at these v~rtical side edges, ~o that the lsggings r~main in contact with the legs, a~on when the knse~ are flexed.
Similar ret2ining mean~ are alRp provided all along thls perimeter of the foot portion to ~ecura the lattsr to tl-e side~

~RIEF OESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
~ The abov~ will be more clsarly understoo~ by having referral to ths preferred embodimlsnt of tha inventlon; ill~str2ted by way of thls accompanying drawings, in which:

L~ke numeral~ refer to like elsmonts throughout the drawlngs.

Ths invsntion compri~es a pair of id~ntical lsgglnga 1 adapted to covsr tha ~ront and ~ides nF tha lags or pant~ 2 of a wearsr and extending from the wai~t to tha hsal oP each l~g and made of light watlsrproof fabrlc, such as nylon. As sesn clearly in Figure 6, 1B991n9a 1 conv~rg0 downwardly on aach leg and sr~ ~olnad at aach hael, a~ indioated by the numaral 3.

~'.~f' Th~ low~r and 4 of flach 10gging 1 ~xt~nd~ frontwardly in an intagral ~oot portion 5 adapted to cov~r each ~hoe 6 of a cyclist.
Thi~ foot portion 5 completely cov6srs the ~hoe 6, a~ s0en in Figurs 5, leaving anly the ~ol0 6' 0xpo~ed. Th~ lowJr peri~etsr o~ aach portion 5 i8 provided with a sewn, or otherwis~ ~ac~r~d" 01aatic strip 7 which ~ervea to ~irmly attach ths foot portian 5 to the shoa 60 It i8 to bs noted that tha foot portlon 1008ely covers each ~hoa 6. This construction, alDng with elastic strip 7, make~ lt po3sible ~or ths foot portiono 5 to be ~itted over different siz~d ~hoee.
A clamp 8, located àt the he~l of each lsgging 1, detach-~bly attach~s the two enda o~ each elastic strip 7.
The upper end~ o~ each legging 1 are providsd wiCh an elaaticlzRd belt 9, designsd to accom~odate the uarious girths of dif-ferent wearers around the w~ist. ~elt 9 also allows acce~ to th~
pants pockets.
ach legging 1 has two vertically-ext0nding side ~dga~.
The latter ara ~ach provided with a str0tchable elastic ~trlp mate~ial : 10 extending ~rom the waist to the heslO These 5trip8 10 6nsure that l~gging~ 1 ~ill clD~sly adhure to ths lege, even when the kn0~ i8 bent.
2U To f~rther sacura leggings 1 to th~ wearer, ~traps 11 are prov1dad, each strap 11 extRnding around the rser o~ the upper leg portion~ and provlded with a clamp 11'~
As shown in F~gure l, th~ groin area oP thu invention de~ines a gensrally U-shaped opening 13. Thi~ i to allow maximum freodom of movsment to the wear~r. To provide maximum protection again3t rain9 tha opening is covarad by an interior apron 12 hsving a top edge sewn,or othsrwise securad, tn belt 9 and b~ing o~ a gene-rally rectangular ~haps.
, ' It i8 to be noted that l~gging~ 1 are made all in one piaCB and can be conv~niently roll~d up into a small light bundle when it i5 not rainlng or when the street~ aré dry.
