Abstract

A press with extended press zone in a paper machine, comprising a rotating press roll (1), a press shoe (2), and a slide band (7) sliding along the surface of the press shoe, a web (6) being passed between felts (4, 5) through the press, where it is pressed between the roll (1) and the slide band (7). The press shoe (2), designed to operate hydrodynamically, has a surface provided with a pocket area (d) formed by one or more pockets of small average thickness.
If required, pressurized lubricant can be introduced to the pocket area to achieve the desired press effect and speed.
