Abstract

A laser includes a soliton supporting waveguide of SiO2-Al2O3-P2O5 with an erbium doping level of 1100 ppm, the fibre having a core radius of 2.5µm and a core-cladding refractive index difference of 0.015 operated such that the solitons propagat-ing in the waveguide have a soliton period greater than the amplification period of the laser.
