Abstract

This invention is cryo-coolers (10) for use in cryosurgery, and other applications comprising finned tube helical heat exchanger (20), and a flow directing sheath (30) covering portions of the heat exchanger coil and isolating portions of the heat exchanger coil from the outer sheath (11) of the cryo-cooler. The size and shape of ice balls created by the probes is controlled by the extent and location of the flow directing sheath.
