Abstract
A lancer device that enables a user to draw blood from a patient and discard the used lancet without touching it. The device also has an adjustable tip for selecting the depth of stylet penetration into the patient and a triggering mechanism that utilizes a yoke latch and a leaf spring to discharge the lancet. The lancer also has a dampening feature to reduce vibrations when the lancet is moving.

a latch, disposed in the housing assembly, for engaging a portion of the guide member when the guide member is retracted and disengaging the portion of the guide member when a sufficient force is applied to the latch to cause the latch to deform, such that the guide member is permitted to pass through the latch.
53. The apparatus according to Claim 52, wherein the latch is substantially oval while in a non-deformed state.
54. The apparatus according to Claim 52, wherein the latch is fabricated from a metallic material.
