Abstract
A mailer type business form intermediate has at least one, preferably plastic, card releasably mounted to a first face of the intermediate, the plastic card having a top surface capable of receiving and holding toner indicia, and the bottom surface of the card directly adhered to the first face of the intermediate by removable adhesive. The intermediate may be V, C, or Z-folded to produce a mailer with or without built in reply envelope, and with or without inserts. Preferably pressure sealed cohesive is used to seal the panels of the intermediate together after folding about fold lines. Common variable indicia is imaged on the top surface of the plastic card, and on a surface of the intermediate. The common indicia may include name and/or address indicia, which is substantially simultaneously imaged on the card top surface and the first face of the intermediate by a single pass through a toner-based simplex printer.
Claims (21)
1. A mailer type business form intermediate comprising:
a substantially quadrate sheet of paper having first and second faces, top and bottom substantially parallel edges, and substantially parallel side edges substantially perpendicular to said top and bottom edges;
at least a first fold line substantially parallel to said top and bottom edges and dividing said sheet of paper into at least first and second panels, said first panel between said top edge and first fold line;
at least first and second patterns of sealing adhesive or cohesive applied to at least one of said first and second faces to effect sealing of said sheet into a mailer type business form when said sheet is folded about at least said first fold line; and at least one plastic card releasably mounted on said first face, said plastic card having top and bottom surfaces, said top surface capable of receiving and holding toner indicia.

at least a first fold line substantially parallel to said top and bottom edges and dividing said sheet of paper into at least first and second panels, said first panel between said top edge and first fold line;
at least first and second patterns of sealing adhesive or cohesive applied to at least one of said first and second faces to effect sealing of said sheet into a mailer type business form when said sheet is folded about at least said first fold line; and at least one plastic card releasably mounted on said first face, said plastic card having top and bottom surfaces, said top surface capable of receiving and holding toner indicia.
2. An intermediate as recited in claim 1 further comprising common variable indicia formed by toner, imaged on said plastic card top surface, and on at least one of said first and second faces of said sheet.
3. An intermediate as recited in claim 2 wherein said plastic card is releasably mounted on said sheet first face by removable pressure sensitive adhesive acting directly between said first face of said sheet, and card bottom surface.
4. An intermediate as recited in claim 2 wherein said common variable indicia includes human readable name and address indicia.

An intermediate as recited in claim 2 wherein said sealing adhesive or cohesive comprises pressure seal cohesive; and further comprising first and second lines of weakness parallel to said side edges and spaced therefrom to define tear strips, said patterns of pressure seal adhesive disposed at least in part in said tear strips.

An intermediate as recited in claim 2 wherein said at least first fold line comprises at least first and second parallel fold lines, defining said sheet into at least first, second, and third panels, said second panel between said first and second panels, and said third panel between said bottom edge and said second fold line.

An intermediate as recited in claim 6 wherein said wherein said sheet consists essentially of said first, second and third panels, said second panel adjoining both said first and third panels, and forms a mailer by Z-folding or eccentrically Z-folding about said fold lines; and wherein said common variable indicia is imaged on said first face of said sheet.
8. An intermediate as recited in claim 7 wherein said at least one plastic card is mounted in at least one of said first and second panels of said sheet, and wherein said common indicia is imaged on said third panel first face.
9. An intermediate as recited in claim 8 wherein said plastic card is releasably mounted on said sheet first face by removable adhesive acting directly between said first face of said sheet, and card bottom surface.
10. An intermediate as recited in claim 9 wherein said common variable indicia includes human readable name and address indicia.
11. An intermediate as recited in claim 10 wherein said sealing adhesive or cohesive comprises pressure seal cohesive; and further comprising first and second lines of weakness parallel to said side edges and spaced therefrom to define tear strips, said patterns of pressure seal adhesive disposed at least in part in said tear strips.
12. A mailer formed by folding the intermediate as recited in claim 1 about said at least first fold line, and sealing the adhesive or cohesive.
13. A mailer formed by Z-folding or eccentrically Z-folding the intermediate as recited in claim 10 about said first and second fold lines, and pressure sealing said cohesive.
14. A method of making mailable product including a mailer type business form intermediate with at least one mounted plastic card, each plastic card having top and bottom surfaces, and the top surface capable of receiving and holding toner indicia, said method comprising:
(a) making an intermediate comprising a substantially quadrate sheet of paper having first and second faces, top and bottom substantially parallel edges, and substantially parallel side edges substantially perpendicular to the top and bottom edges, at least a first fold line substantially parallel to the top and bottom edges and dividing the sheet of paper into at least first and second panels, the first panel between the top edge and first fold line, and at least first and second patterns of sealing adhesive or cohesive applied to at least one of the first and second faces to effect sealing of the sheet into a mailer type business form when the sheet is folded about at least the first fold line;
(b) releasably mounting the at least one plastic card on the first face; and then (c) applying toner to the top surface of the at least one plastic card and at least one of the first and second faces of the intermediate to provide common variable indicia on the top surface of the at least one plastic card and at least one of the first and second faces of the intermediate.
(a) making an intermediate comprising a substantially quadrate sheet of paper having first and second faces, top and bottom substantially parallel edges, and substantially parallel side edges substantially perpendicular to the top and bottom edges, at least a first fold line substantially parallel to the top and bottom edges and dividing the sheet of paper into at least first and second panels, the first panel between the top edge and first fold line, and at least first and second patterns of sealing adhesive or cohesive applied to at least one of the first and second faces to effect sealing of the sheet into a mailer type business form when the sheet is folded about at least the first fold line;
(b) releasably mounting the at least one plastic card on the first face; and then (c) applying toner to the top surface of the at least one plastic card and at least one of the first and second faces of the intermediate to provide common variable indicia on the top surface of the at least one plastic card and at least one of the first and second faces of the intermediate.
15. A method as recited in claim 14 wherein (c) is practiced by a common pass through a printer.
16. A method as recited in claim 15 wherein (a) is practiced to produce an intermediate having first and second fold lines, and first, second, and third panels; and wherein (b) is practiced to mount the at least one plastic card on at least one of the first and second panels of the intermediate; and wherein (c) is practiced, at least in part, to image common name and/or address indicia on the at least one plastic card and on the third panel first face.
17. A method as recited in claim 16 further comprising, after (c), (d) Z-folding, or eccentrically Z-folding, the intermediate about the fold lines.
18. A method as recited in claim 17 wherein (a) is practiced to apply pressure seal cohesive to both the first and second faces; and further comprising, after (d), (e) applying sufficient pressure to the folded intermediate to cause the pressure seal adhesive to seal the form.
19. A method as recited in claim 14 wherein (b) is practiced by applying a removable pressure sensitive adhesive directly to the bottom surface of the card and the first face of the intermediate.
20. A method as recited in claim 19 wherein (a) is practiced to produce an intermediate having first and second fold lines, and first, second, and third panels; and wherein (b) is practiced to mount the at least one plastic card on at least one of the first and second panels of the intermediate; and wherein (c) is practiced, at least in part, to image common name and address indicia on the at least one plastic card and on the third panel first face.
21. A mailer type business form intermediate comprising:
a substantially quadrate sheet of paper having first and second faces, top and bottom substantially parallel edges, and substantially parallel side edges substantially perpendicular to said top and bottom edges;
at least a first fold line substantially parallel to said top and bottom edges and dividing said sheet of paper into at least first and second panels, said first panel between said top edge and first fold line;
at least first and second patterns of sealing adhesive or cohesive applied to at least one of said first and second faces to effect sealing of said sheet into a mailer type business form when said sheet is folded about at least said first fold line;
at least one card releasably mounted on said first face, said card having top and bottom surfaces, said top surface capable of receiving and holding toner indicia; and common variable indicia formed by toner, imaged on said plastic card top surface, and on at least one of said first and second faces of said sheet; and wherein said card is releasably mounted on said sheet first face by removable adhesive acting directly between said first face of said sheet, and card bottom surface.

at least first and second patterns of sealing adhesive or cohesive applied to at least one of said first and second faces to effect sealing of said sheet into a mailer type business form when said sheet is folded about at least said first fold line;
at least one card releasably mounted on said first face, said card having top and bottom surfaces, said top surface capable of receiving and holding toner indicia; and common variable indicia formed by toner, imaged on said plastic card top surface, and on at least one of said first and second faces of said sheet; and wherein said card is releasably mounted on said sheet first face by removable adhesive acting directly between said first face of said sheet, and card bottom surface.
