Abstract
A mechanism for the deployment of a filamentous endovascular implant (20) includes a flexible deployment tube (10) having an internal lumen extending between open proximal and distal ends (11, 13), and a coupling element (14) attached to the proximal end of the implant. The tube has a retention sleeve (12) that extends distally past the distal end of the tube. The coupling element is releasably held within the sleeve. The deployment tube and the attached implant attached are passed intravascularly by a microcatheter until the implant is located within a target vascular site. To detach the implant from the tube, a liquid is injected through the lumen so as to apply pressure to the coupling element, which is thus pushed out of the retention sleeve by fluid pressure. The coupling element may include a purge passage for purging air from the microcatheter prior to the intravascular passage of the implant.
