Abstract
A panel which comprises two confronting glass sheets (12, 14, 24, 26) that are hermetically sealed together by a solder glass (10, 20, 22), the hermetic seal (18) comprising remelted solder glass.
Claims (13)
1. A panel which comprises two confronting glass sheets that are hermetically sealed together by a solder glass, the hermetic seal comprising remelted solder glass.
2. A panel as claimed in claim 1, wherein the glass sheets are hermetically edge-sealed together by the solder glass.
3. A panel as claimed in claim 1, wherein the solder glass is a band extending around the margin of an associated surface of each glass sheet.
4. A panel as claimed in claim 3, wherein the solder glass is hermetically bonded to the associated surface of each glass sheet.
5. A panel as claimed in claim 1, wherein the glass sheets have a spaced-apart confronting relationship.
6. A panel as claimed in claim 5, wherein support pillars maintain the glass sheets in the spaced apart relationship.
7. A panel as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 6, wherein at least one of the glass sheets is tempered.
8. A panel as claimed in claim 1, further comprising an evacuated hermetically sealed space defined between the two glass sheets.
9. A panel as claimed in claim 1, wherein the glass sheets are flat.
10. A panel as claimed in claim 1, wherein the glass sheets are curved.
11. A panel as claimed in claim 1, wherein one of the glass sheets is larger than the other.
12. A panel as claimed in claim 1, wherein the glass sheets are of equal dimension.
13. A panel as claimed in claim 1 for use in vacuum glazing.
