Abstract
A disposable absorbent article to be worn about the lower torso of a wearer that facilitates an easy, intuitive change is provided. The disposable absorbent article includes at least one serviceable indicium that facilitates an easy, intuitive change by aligning the article relative to an anatomical feature of the wearer or relative to a component of the article thereby enhancing the fit and corresponding performance of the article.
Claims (34)
1. A disposable absorbent article to be worn about the lower torso of a wearer, the absorbent article comprising a topsheet, backsheet and a core disposed therebetween, the absorbent article having a garment-facing surface and a body-facing surface, the absorbent article comprising:
a first waist region having longitudinal side edges;
a second waist region having longitudinal side edges;
a pair of first ear panels that are respectively disposed along and extend outwardly from the longitudinal side edges of said second waist region, wherein said first ear panels are elasticized and comprise at least one internally visible serviceable indicium that is disposed on a body facing surface of the first ear panels, wherein said at least one internally visible serviceable indicium comprises a color distinguishing said body facing surface of said first ear panels from another region of a body-facing surface of the disposable absorbent article;
a pair of second ear panels that are present in said first waist region;
a fastening system for releasably securing the first waist region to the second waist region, said fastening system comprising hook type fasteners connected to each of said first ear panels and a loop type fastener disposed on said backsheet between said pair of second ear panels;
a pair of barrier leg cuffs; and a pair of elastically-contractible gasketing leg cuffs that are respectively disposed outboard of said barrier leg cuffs, wherein each of said barrier leg cuffs comprises at least a second internally visible serviceable indicium facilitating the process of fitting the absorbent article to the wearer by highlighting said pair of barrier leg cuffs, wherein said at least second internally visible serviceable indicium comprises a color distinguishing said at least second internally visible serviceable indicium from another region of said body-facing surface of the disposable absorbent article, wherein said second waist region comprises at least a third internally visible serviceable indicium that is present on a body facing surface of said second waist region and is at least substantially proximate a second end edge and is present between said side edges of said second waist region, wherein said at least third internally visible serviceable indicium of said second waist region comprises a color distinguishing said at least third internally visible serviceable indicium of said second waist region from another region of said body-facing surface of the disposable absorbent article.

a fastening system for releasably securing the first waist region to the second waist region, said fastening system comprising hook type fasteners connected to each of said first ear panels and a loop type fastener disposed on said backsheet between said pair of second ear panels;
a pair of barrier leg cuffs; and a pair of elastically-contractible gasketing leg cuffs that are respectively disposed outboard of said barrier leg cuffs, wherein each of said barrier leg cuffs comprises at least a second internally visible serviceable indicium facilitating the process of fitting the absorbent article to the wearer by highlighting said pair of barrier leg cuffs, wherein said at least second internally visible serviceable indicium comprises a color distinguishing said at least second internally visible serviceable indicium from another region of said body-facing surface of the disposable absorbent article, wherein said second waist region comprises at least a third internally visible serviceable indicium that is present on a body facing surface of said second waist region and is at least substantially proximate a second end edge and is present between said side edges of said second waist region, wherein said at least third internally visible serviceable indicium of said second waist region comprises a color distinguishing said at least third internally visible serviceable indicium of said second waist region from another region of said body-facing surface of the disposable absorbent article.
2. The disposable absorbent article of claim 1 wherein said at least second internally visible serviceable indicium indicates proper alignment of the article about the wearer's lower torso.
3. The disposable absorbent article of claim 1 wherein said garment-facing surface of said article comprises at least one externally visible serviceable indicium.
4. The disposable absorbent article of claim 3 wherein said at least one externally visible serviceable indicium comprises a color distinguishing said at least one externally visible serviceable indicium from another region of said garment-facing surface of the disposable absorbent article
5. The disposable absorbent article of claim 4 wherein said at least one externally visible serviceable indicium is present on a garment facing surface of each of said pair of first ear panels.
6. The disposable absorbent article of claim 1 wherein said first waist region comprises at least a fourth internally visible serviceable indicium that is present on a body facing surface of said first waist region and is substantially proximate a first end edge and is present between said side edges of said first waist region wherein said at least fourth internally visible serviceable indicium of said first waist region comprises a color distinguishing said at least fourth internally visible serviceable indicium of said first waist region from another region of said body-facing surface of the disposable absorbent article.
7. The disposable absorbent article of claim 1 wherein said second waist region comprises elastic elements adapted to gather about the waist of a wearer.
8. The disposable absorbent article of claim 6 wherein each of said first and second waist regions comprises elastic elements adapted to gather about the waist of a wearer.
9. The disposable absorbent article of claim 1 wherein said topsheet, said backsheet and said core form a chassis and wherein said first ear panels are separate members that are respectively attached to said chassis.
10. The disposable absorbent article of claim 9 wherein said core is narrower than said topsheet and said backsheet in a transverse direction of said absorbent article.
11. The disposable absorbent article of claim 10 wherein said second ear panels are integral with said chassis.
12. A disposable absorbent article to be worn about the lower torso of a wearer, the absorbent article comprising a topsheet, backsheet, a pair of elasticized barrier leg cuffs and a pair of elasticized gasketing leg cuffs respectively disposed outside of said pair of elasticized barrier leg cuffs, a core disposed the topsheet and the backsheet, the absorbent article having a garment-facing surface and a body-facing surface, the absorbent article comprising:
a first waist region having longitudinal side edges;
a second waist region having longitudinal side edges;
a pair of first ear panels that are disposed along the longitudinal side edges in said second waist region, wherein said first ear panels are elasticized and wherein each of said first ear panels comprises at least one internally visible serviceable indicium that is disposed on a body facing surface of the first ear panels, wherein said at least one internally visible serviceable indicium comprises a color distinguishing said body facing surface of said first ear panels from another region of a body-facing surface of the disposable absorbent article;
a pair of second ear panels that are present in said first waist region;
a fastening system for releasably securing the first waist region to the second waist region, said fastening system comprising hook type fasteners connected to each of said first ear panels and a loop type fastener disposed on said backsheet between said pair of second ear panels; and wherein each of said barrier leg cuffs comprises at least one internally visible serviceable indicium facilitating the process of fitting the absorbent article to the wearer by highlighting said barrier leg cuffs, wherein said at least one internally visible serviceable indicium of said barrier leg cuffs comprises a color distinguishing said at least one internally visible serviceable indicium of said barrier leg cuffs from another region of said body-facing surface of the disposable absorbent article and wherein said second waist region comprises at least one internally visible serviceable indicium that is present on a body facing surface of said second waist region and is at least substantially proximate a second end edge and is present between said side edges of said second waist region wherein said at least one internally visible serviceable indicium of said second waist region comprises a color distinguishing said at least one internally visible serviceable indicium of said second waist region from another region of said body-facing surface of the disposable absorbent article.

a fastening system for releasably securing the first waist region to the second waist region, said fastening system comprising hook type fasteners connected to each of said first ear panels and a loop type fastener disposed on said backsheet between said pair of second ear panels; and wherein each of said barrier leg cuffs comprises at least one internally visible serviceable indicium facilitating the process of fitting the absorbent article to the wearer by highlighting said barrier leg cuffs, wherein said at least one internally visible serviceable indicium of said barrier leg cuffs comprises a color distinguishing said at least one internally visible serviceable indicium of said barrier leg cuffs from another region of said body-facing surface of the disposable absorbent article and wherein said second waist region comprises at least one internally visible serviceable indicium that is present on a body facing surface of said second waist region and is at least substantially proximate a second end edge and is present between said side edges of said second waist region wherein said at least one internally visible serviceable indicium of said second waist region comprises a color distinguishing said at least one internally visible serviceable indicium of said second waist region from another region of said body-facing surface of the disposable absorbent article.
13. The disposable absorbent article of claim 12 comprising an elasticized component chosen from at least one of a first waist region, a second waist region, and a topsheet.
14. The disposable absorbent article of claim 12 wherein said garment-facing surface of said article comprises at least one externally visible serviceable indicium.
15. The disposable absorbent article of claim 14 wherein said at least one externally visible serviceable indicium is present on a garment facing surface of each of said pair of first ear panels.
16. The disposable absorbent article of claim 15 wherein said at least one externally visible serviceable indicium of said pair of first ear panels comprises a color that is substantially the same as the color of said internally visible serviceable indicium of said first ear panels.
17. The disposable absorbent article of claim 14 wherein said at least one externally visible serviceable indicium comprises a color distinguishing said at least one externally visible serviceable indicium from another region of said garment-facing surface of the disposable absorbent article.
18. The disposable absorbent article of claim 14 wherein said at least one externally visible serviceable indicium comprises at least one of a character and an object readily recognizable to children.
19. The disposable absorbent article of claim 12 wherein said second waist region comprises elastic elements adapted to gather about the waist of a wearer.
20. The disposable absorbent article of claim 12 wherein said first waist region comprises elastic elements adapted to gather about the waist of a wearer.
21. The disposable absorbent article of claim 20 wherein said first waist region comprises at least one internally visible serviceable indicium that is present on a body facing surface of said first waist region and is substantially proximate a first end edge and is present between said side edges of said first waist region wherein said at least one internally visible serviceable indicium of said first waist region comprises a color distinguishing said at least one internally visible serviceable indicium of said first waist region from another region of said body-facing surface of the disposable absorbent article.
22. The disposable absorbent article of claim 12 wherein said topsheet, said backsheet and said core form a chassis and wherein said first ear panels are separate members that are respectively attached to said chassis.
23. The disposable absorbent article of claim 22 wherein said core is narrower than said topsheet and said backsheet in a transverse direction of said absorbent article.
24. The disposable absorbent article of claim 23 wherein said second ear panels are integral with said chassis.
25. A disposable absorbent article to be worn about the lower torso of a wearer, the absorbent article comprising a topsheet, a backsheet, a core disposed between the topsheet and the backsheet and a pair of elasticized barrier leg cuffs, the absorbent article having a garment-facing surface and a body-facing surface, the absorbent article comprising:
a first waist region having longitudinal side edges;
a second waist region having longitudinal side edges;
a pair of first ear panels that are disposed in said second waist region, wherein said first ear panels are elasticized, wherein each of said first ear panels comprises at least one internally visible serviceable indicium that is disposed on a body facing surface of the first ear panels, wherein said at least one internally visible serviceable indicium of said first ear panels comprises a color distinguishing said body facing surface of said first ear panels from another region of a body-facing surface of the disposable absorbent article, wherein each of said first ear panels comprises at least one externally visible serviceable indicium that is disposed on a garment facing surface of the first ear panels, wherein said at least one externally visible serviceable indicium of said first ear panels comprises a color distinguishing said garment facing surface of said first ear panels from another region of a garment-facing surface of the disposable absorbent article;
a pair of second ear panels that are disposed in said first waist region, wherein each of said second ear panels comprises at least one internally visible serviceable indicium that is disposed on a body facing surface of the second ear panels, wherein said at least one internally visible serviceable indicium of said second ear panels comprises a color distinguishing said body facing surface of said second ear panels from another region of a body-facing surface of the disposable absorbent article, wherein each of said second ear panels comprises at least one externally visible serviceable indicium that is disposed on a garment facing surface of the second ear panels, wherein said at least one externally visible serviceable indicium of said second ear panels comprises a color distinguishing said garment facing surface of said second ear panels from another region of a garment-facing surface of the disposable absorbent article;
a fastening system for releasably securing the first waist region to the second waist region, said fastening system comprising hook type fasteners respectively connected to a distal portion of each of said first ear panels and a loop type fastener disposed about said first waist region;
wherein at least a portion of said first waist region is elastically extensible and comprises at least one internally visible serviceable indicium that is present on a body facing surface of said first waist region and is at least substantially proximate a first end edge of said article and extends between said side edges of said first waist region wherein said at least one internally visible serviceable indicium of said first waist region comprises a color distinguishing said at least one internally visible serviceable indicium of said second waist region from another region of said body-facing surface of the disposable absorbent article; and wherein said second waist region is elastically extensible and comprises at least one internally visible serviceable indicium that is present on a body facing surface of said second waist region and is at least substantially proximate a second end edge and extends between said side edges of said second waist region wherein said at least one internally visible serviceable indicium of said second waist region comprises a color distinguishing said at least one internally visible serviceable indicium of said second waist region from another region of said body facing surface of the disposable absorbent article.
a first waist region having longitudinal side edges;
a second waist region having longitudinal side edges;
a pair of first ear panels that are disposed in said second waist region, wherein said first ear panels are elasticized, wherein each of said first ear panels comprises at least one internally visible serviceable indicium that is disposed on a body facing surface of the first ear panels, wherein said at least one internally visible serviceable indicium of said first ear panels comprises a color distinguishing said body facing surface of said first ear panels from another region of a body-facing surface of the disposable absorbent article, wherein each of said first ear panels comprises at least one externally visible serviceable indicium that is disposed on a garment facing surface of the first ear panels, wherein said at least one externally visible serviceable indicium of said first ear panels comprises a color distinguishing said garment facing surface of said first ear panels from another region of a garment-facing surface of the disposable absorbent article;
a pair of second ear panels that are disposed in said first waist region, wherein each of said second ear panels comprises at least one internally visible serviceable indicium that is disposed on a body facing surface of the second ear panels, wherein said at least one internally visible serviceable indicium of said second ear panels comprises a color distinguishing said body facing surface of said second ear panels from another region of a body-facing surface of the disposable absorbent article, wherein each of said second ear panels comprises at least one externally visible serviceable indicium that is disposed on a garment facing surface of the second ear panels, wherein said at least one externally visible serviceable indicium of said second ear panels comprises a color distinguishing said garment facing surface of said second ear panels from another region of a garment-facing surface of the disposable absorbent article;
a fastening system for releasably securing the first waist region to the second waist region, said fastening system comprising hook type fasteners respectively connected to a distal portion of each of said first ear panels and a loop type fastener disposed about said first waist region;
wherein at least a portion of said first waist region is elastically extensible and comprises at least one internally visible serviceable indicium that is present on a body facing surface of said first waist region and is at least substantially proximate a first end edge of said article and extends between said side edges of said first waist region wherein said at least one internally visible serviceable indicium of said first waist region comprises a color distinguishing said at least one internally visible serviceable indicium of said second waist region from another region of said body-facing surface of the disposable absorbent article; and wherein said second waist region is elastically extensible and comprises at least one internally visible serviceable indicium that is present on a body facing surface of said second waist region and is at least substantially proximate a second end edge and extends between said side edges of said second waist region wherein said at least one internally visible serviceable indicium of said second waist region comprises a color distinguishing said at least one internally visible serviceable indicium of said second waist region from another region of said body facing surface of the disposable absorbent article.
26. The disposable absorbent article of claim 25 wherein said core is narrower than said topsheet and said backsheet in a transverse direction in at least a crotch region of said absorbent article, wherein said topsheet, said backsheet and said core form a chassis and wherein said first ear panels and said second ear panels are separate members that are respectively attached to said chassis.
27. The disposable absorbent article of claim 25 wherein each of said second ear panels comprises said loop type fastener and wherein the hook type fasteners of said first ear panels are respectively adapted to engage the loop type fasteners of said second ear panels.
28. The disposable absorbent article of claim 27 wherein the hook type fastener of said first ear panels are respectively engaged to the loop type fasteners of said second ear panels prior to fitting said absorbent article to a wearer.
29. The disposable absorbent article of claim 25 wherein second ear panels are elasticized.
30. The disposable absorbent article of claim 26 wherein said first waist region comprises at least one externally visible serviceable indicium that is present on a garment facing surface of said first waist region and is at least substantially proximate said first end edge of said article and extends between said side edges of said first waist region wherein said at least one externally visible serviceable indicium of said first waist region comprises a color distinguishing said at least one externally visible serviceable indicium of said first waist region from another region of said garment-facing surface of the disposable absorbent article and wherein said second waist region comprises at least one externally visible serviceable indicium that is present on a garment facing surface of said second waist region and is at least substantially proximate a second end edge and extends between said side edges of said second waist region wherein said at least one externally visible serviceable indicium of said second waist region comprises a color distinguishing said at least one externally visible serviceable indicium of said second waist region from another region of said garment facing surface of the disposable absorbent article.
31. The disposable absorbent article of claim 25 wherein said color of said at least one externally visible serviceable indicium of said first ear panels is present on the whole garment facing surface of said first ear panels.
32. The disposable absorbent article of claim 31 wherein said color of said at least one externally visible serviceable indicium of said second ear panels is present on the whole garment facing surface of second first ear panels.
33. The disposable absorbent article of claim 25 wherein said first waist region is a front portion of said absorbent article and said second waist region is a back portion of said absorbent article.
34. The disposable absorbent article of claim 26 wherein said at least one externally visible serviceable indicium of said first and second ear panels comprises a color that is substantially the same as the color of said at least one internally serviceable indicium of said first and second ear panels.
