Abstract

技术领域
本发明总体上涉及光波导的干燥式封装。更具体地,本发明涉及包括至少一干燥嵌入物的光波导组件,干燥嵌入物用于保护至少一光波导。
背景技术
光缆包括光波导如光纤,其传输光学信号如声音、视频、和/或数据信息。一种类型的光缆结构包括布置在管内的光波导,从而形成管组件。一般而言,管保护光波导。然而,光波导必须在管内进行进一步的保护。例如,光波导在光波导和管之间应有一些相对移动以适应弯曲。另一方面,光波导应与管足够地配合,从而防止光波导在管内移位,例如,在施加拉力以安装光缆时。另外,管组件应抑制水在其中的移动。此外,管组件应能够在一定温度范围内工作,而不会有不适当的光学性能降级。
传统光管组件通过用触变材料如润滑脂填充管而满足这些要求。触变材料通常虑及光波导和管之间的适当移动、缓冲、及光波导的接合。另外,触变材料可有效阻止水在管内的移动。然而,在连接光波导之前,必须先从光波导清除触变材料。从光波导清除触变材料是一脏乱且耗时的过程。此外,触变材料的粘性通常取决于温度。由于改变粘性,触变材料在相当高的温度下可能从管的端部滴下,而在相当低的温度下可导致光学衰减。
已有光缆设计试图排除触变材料在管中的使用,但这些设计总体上是不适当的,因为它们未满足所有要求和/或生产费用很高。管中不使用触变材料的一个例子是美国专利4,909,592,其公开了一种具有遇水膨胀带和/或纱线布置于其中的管。该设计要求管内有大量遇水膨胀成分以足以将光纤接合到管。大量遇水膨胀成分的使用是不经济的,因为其增加了光缆的成本。另一不使用触变材料的例子是美国专利6,278,826,其公开了一种含水量大于零的泡沫,其被装载以超吸收聚合物。泡沫的含水量被描述为改善泡沫的阻燃特性。同样,该设计的泡沫相当昂贵因而增加了光缆的成本。
发明内容
本发明致力于一种光管组件,其包括管、至少一光波导、及至少一干燥嵌入物。至少一光波导及至少一干燥嵌入物均布置在管内。至少一干燥嵌入物具有第一层和第二层。第一层是泡沫聚氨酯,第二层是遇水膨胀层,其中干燥嵌入物通常包围至少一光波导。
本发明还致力于一种光管组件,其包括具有内表面的管、布置在管内的至少一光波导、及至少一干燥嵌入物。与管相比,至少一光波导具有正剩余长度。至少一干燥嵌入物具有至少两薄片层,其通常包围至少一光波导,从而形成布置在管内的中心体。至少一干燥嵌入物将至少一光波导接合到管的内表面,同时还衬垫至少一光波导,从而将光学衰减维持在约0.4dB/km以下。
另外,本发明致力于一种光管组件,其包括管、至少一光波导、及至少一干燥嵌入物。至少一干燥嵌入物具有泡沫聚氨酯层,其中至少一干燥嵌入物和至少一光波导形成布置于管内的中心体。至少一光波导具有在约0.5N/m和约5.0N/m之间的标准化拔力。此外,本发明的管组件可用于各种光缆结构中。

具体实施方式
本发明将在下文中参考附图示出的优选实施例进行更加详细的描述。当然,本发明可被体现为许多不同的形式,且不应视为限于在此提出的实施例;之所以提供这些实施例,是为了使在此公开的内容能向本领域技术人员全面传达本发明的范围。附图不必按比例画出,而是配置成可清楚地图解本发明。
图1中所示是根据本发明一方面的示例性管组件10。管组件10包括至少一光波导12、至少一干燥嵌入物14和管18。在该例子中,至少一光波导12是光纤带堆的形式,其具有跨带堆角落的对角线D尺寸。干燥嵌入物14通常包围至少一光波导12并形成中心体15,其布置在管18内。干燥嵌入物14执行功能如衬垫、接合、抑制水的移动、及适应弯曲。干燥嵌入物14是有利的,因为光波导很容易从那里被除去,而不会留下在连接之前要求清除的残余物或膜层。此外,不象传统的触变材料,干燥嵌入物随着温度的变化不会改变其粘性,也不具有在高温下从管端滴下的倾向。另外,管组件10可包括其它适当的构件如聚酯捆缚线17,以将干燥嵌入物14关于光波导12保持。同样,两根或多根线可被缝合在一起以在将管18挤压在干燥嵌入物14周围之前将干燥嵌入物保持在一起。图1a示出了管组件10’,其是管组件10的变异。具体地,管组件10’包括多个松散的光波导12,而不是光纤带堆13。在该例子中,管组件10’包括24个具有对角线尺寸D的松散光波导12,但可使用任何适当数量的光波导。此外,光波导12可使用打捆机、遇水膨胀线、带、包裹物或其它适当材料而捆扎成一个或多个组。另外,管组件10或10’可以是图5所示的光缆的一部分。
如图所示,光波导12是光纤,其形成光纤带的一部分。在这种情况下,光波导是成带形式的多根单模光纤,其形成光纤带堆13。光纤带堆13可包括螺旋状或S-Z状的绞合。另外,可使用其它类型或结构的光波导。例如,光波导12可以是多模、纯模、掺铒的、偏振保持的光纤、其它适当类型的光波导、和/或其组合。此外,光波导12可以是松散的或成束的。每一光波导12可包括基于硅石的芯,其用于传输光并被基于硅石的覆层包围,覆层的折射率较芯的低。另外,一个或多个涂层可被施加到光波导12。例如,软的第一涂层包围覆层,相对较硬的第二涂层包围第一涂层。在一实施例中,一个或多个光波导12包括2003年7月18日申请的美国专利申请10/632,219中公开的涂层系统,其公开内容通过引用而组合于此。光波导12还包括识别手段如墨水或其它用于识别的适当标记物。适当的光纤可从纽约的康宁公司获得。
在其它实施例中,光纤带堆13可具有边角光波导12a,其具有预定的MAC数,从而在遭受压缩力时阻止边角光波导的光学衰减。换言之,选择具有预定MAC数的边角光波导安放光波导,在经受相当高水平的压缩时,在光纤带堆位置中其对源于压缩力的光学衰减较不敏感。如在此所用的,对于特定光波导12a,MAC数被计算为模场直径(MFD)除以截止波长,两个数量均以微米为单位进行表示,使得MAC数是无量纲的数。换言之,MFD通常被表示成微米,截止波长通常被表示成纳米,因此,截止波长必须除以1000以将其转换成微米,从而产生无量纲MAC数。
在优选实施例中,一个或多个边角光波导12a具有预定的MAC数。具体地,MAC数为约7.35或更小,约7.00或更小则更好,最好为约6.85或更小。作为例子,边角光波导12a被选择为具有9.11pm或更小的MFD和1240nm或更大的截止波长,从而产生7.35或更小的MAC数。概言之,MAC数直接正比于MFD并反比于截止波长。光纤带堆13具有四个边角光波导12a;当然,其它光纤带堆结构可包括更多的边角位置。例如,具有大致成加号形状的光纤带堆包括八个外边角。同样,其它光纤带堆结构可具有其它数量的边角位置。
另外,本发明的光纤带实施例可具有正的光纤带余长(ERL),尽管负的ERL也是可能的。如在此使用的,ERL被定义为特定光纤带的长度减去包含光纤带的管或光缆的长度,然后再除以包含光纤带的管或光缆的长度,其可通过乘以100而表示成百分比。无论ERL采用管长度还是光缆长度进行计算,其均依赖于特定的结构。此外,光缆的各个光纤带可具有不同的ERL值。作为例子,光缆的光纤带具有正ERL,最好是在约0.0%到约0.2%或更大的范围内的正ERL。同样,具有松散或成束光纤的实施例可包括正的光纤余长(EFL)。
图2示出了干燥嵌入物14的截面图。干燥嵌入物14由拉伸材料或能够从卷轴放出的材料形成以在生产期间能连续应用。干燥嵌入物14最好由可执行不同功能的多层形成;当然,干燥嵌入物可以是单层如可压缩层。干燥嵌入物14衬垫光波导12而使其隔离于管18,从而在1310nm基准波长将光波导12的光学衰减保持在约0.4dB/km以下,及在1550nm和1625nm基准波长保持在0.3dB/km。在一实施例中,干燥嵌入物14由两层不同的层形成。例如,干燥嵌入物14的第一层14a为可压缩层,第二层14b为遇水膨胀层。第一层14a由具有预定弹簧常数的可压缩材料形成以提供足够的接合特性。作为例子,第一层是泡沫带,最好是开放式(open cell)泡沫带。当然,可使用任何适当的可压缩材料如封闭式(closed cell)泡沫带。
在一实施例中,第一层为开放式聚氨酯(PU)泡沫带。PU泡沫带或可以是醚基PU或是酯基PU,但也可使用其它适当的泡沫带可压缩层如聚乙烯泡沫、聚丙烯泡沫、或EVA泡沫。然而,优选实施例使用醚基泡沫带,因为在遭受潮湿时其性能优于酯基PU泡沫。换言之,酯基PU泡沫可为潮湿损坏,而醚基PU泡沫在潮湿条件下通常更结实。另外,泡沫层具有预先确定的密度,其通常在约1lb/ft3到约3lb/ft3的范围内,但在优选实施例中,密度为约2lb/ft3。干燥嵌入物14还具有预定的极限抗张强度,以防止在生产期间断裂。概言之,对于具有可压缩层和遇水膨胀层的干燥嵌入物,抗张强度的大部分是由遇水膨胀层提供。对干燥嵌入物14每厘米宽度W或更大宽度,干燥嵌入物的极限抗张强度为约20牛顿,最好为约30牛顿。
干燥嵌入物14最好具有遇水膨胀速度,使得遇水可膨胀物质的大部分膨胀高度在暴露给水的约120秒或更短时间内完成,最好在约90秒或更短时间内。另外,对于蒸馏水,干燥嵌入物14最好具有约18mm的最大膨胀高度,对于5%离子水溶液即盐水,最好具有约8mm的最大膨胀高度。当然,也可使用具有其它适当最大膨胀高度的干燥嵌入物。
第一层14a在装配期间可被压缩,使得其提供预定的法向力,以阻止光波导12被容易地沿管18纵向放置。干燥嵌入物14最好具有约5mm或更小的未压缩高度,以使管直径和/或光缆直径最小。当然,任何适当的高度h可被用于干燥嵌入物14。另外,干燥嵌入物14的高度h在整个宽度范围内不必是常数,即可变化,从而与光波导的截面形状一致并提供改进的衬垫以改善光学性能(图10)。第二层14b是遇水膨胀层如带,其阻止水在管18内移动。
干燥嵌入物14的压缩实际上是干燥嵌入物14的局部最大压缩。在图1的例子中,干燥嵌入物14的局部最大压缩出现在跨越直径的光纤带堆的边角处。计算图1中的干燥嵌入物的压缩百分比要求知道管18的内径、光纤带堆的对角线D尺寸、及干燥嵌入物14的未压缩高度h。作为例子,管18的内径为7.1mm,光纤带堆的对角线D为5.1mm,干燥嵌入物14跨直径的未压缩高度h为3.0mm(2×1.5mm)。将对角线D(5.1mm)与干燥嵌入物14跨直径的未压缩高度h(3.0mm)相加产生未压缩尺寸8.1mm。当将光纤带堆和干燥嵌入物14放入具有7.1mm内径的管18内时,干燥嵌入物总共被压缩1mm(8.1mm一7.1mm)。因此,干燥嵌入物14跨管18的直径被压缩了大约30%。
图2a为三种不同干燥嵌入物14的示例性压缩曲线200、202和204。具体地,曲线200和202代表两种不同的干燥嵌入物,其每一种均具有可压缩开放式醚基PU泡沫层和遇水膨胀层,两层的高度分别为约1.5mm和约1.8mm。另一方面,曲线204代表具有高度均为约1.8mm的可压缩开放式酯基PU泡沫层和遇水膨胀层的干燥嵌入物。通过将干燥嵌入物样品放置在两个具有约2.2英寸直径的圆板之间而产生压缩曲线,同时使用Instron机器测量压缩样品所需要的力。
如图所示,所有三种干燥嵌入物的压缩曲线在压缩范围内均总体上为非线性的。但概括地说,压缩曲线200、202、204直到约0.70mm还具有大致线性的压缩。在一实施例中,用约10牛顿的力,干燥嵌入物14具有约1.0mm或更小的压缩。概言之,当遇水膨胀层相对不可压缩时,泡沫层被压缩。
在其它实施例中,在管组件10中,干燥嵌入物14的第一层14a未被压缩,但如果光波导移动被发动则开始压缩。其它变化包括将一部分干燥嵌入物14附着或结合到管18。例如,粘合剂、胶水、合成橡胶、和/或聚合物14c被布置在干燥嵌入物14的一部分表面上,其与管18接触以将干燥嵌入物14附着于管18。另外,可能关于光波导进行螺旋状地卷绕干燥嵌入物14,而不是纵向布置。在另外的实施例中,关于一个或多个光波导12可形成两个或多个干燥嵌入物,如放置在管18内的两对半。
在优选实施例中,短效的胶水/粘合剂被用于将缆芯15和/或干燥嵌入物14与管18接合。胶水/粘合剂或类似物质被施加到干燥嵌入物14的径向外表面,例如,在生产过程期间。短效的胶水/粘合剂被施加,同时被加热或熔化到干燥嵌入物14的外表面,接着在光缆被淬火或冷却时其被冷却或冻结。作为例子,适当的短效胶水可从新泽西州Bridgewater的National Starch and Chemical Company在商品名70-003A下获得。短效胶水或其它适当的粘合剂/材料可被施加在小滴中,其具有连续的或间断的结构,如图2b-2d所示。例如,一个或多个粘合剂/胶水小滴可以是沿干燥嵌入物纵向施加、纵向间隔开的小滴、沿干燥嵌入物的纵轴的Z字形小滴、或任何其它适当的结构。
在一应用中,多个短效的胶水/粘合剂或类似物的小滴被施加到干燥嵌入物14。例如,三个连续的或非连续的小滴可按这样的位置布置,使得当干燥嵌入物关于光纤带堆形成时,小滴相互之间间隔120度。同样,四个小滴可被布置,使得当干燥嵌入物关于光波导形成时,它们相互之间间隔90度。在具有小滴沿纵轴间隔开的实施例中,小滴可具有约20mm和约800mm或更多的纵向间隔S。当然,也可使用其它适当的间隔。另外,小滴可被断续地施加,以使所要求的材料最少,从而降低生产支出,同时还提供足够的接合/粘附。
由于组件10未被填充以触变材料,管可能会变形或坍陷,从而形成椭圆形的管,而不是圆形的管。2003年5月30日申请的美国专利申请10/448,509,其公开内容通过引用组合于此,其讨论了管由双峰聚合材料形成的干管组件,管具有预定的平均椭圆度。如在此使用的,椭圆度是管18的大直径D1和小直径D2的差除以大直径,然后乘以100,从而将椭圆度表示为百分比。双峰聚合材料包括具有至少第一聚合材料和第二聚合材料的材料,其在双反应器工艺中生产,其中第一聚合材料具有相对高的分子量,第二聚合材料具有相对低的分子量。该双反应器工艺提供想要的材料特性且不应与单柱反应器聚合物混合相混淆,后者在混合中兼顾两种树脂的特性。在一实施例中,管具有约10%或更小的平均椭圆度。作为例子,管18由HDPE形成,其可从密歇根州的Midland的Dow Chemical Company在商品名DGDA-2490 NT下获得。
图3示出了各种管结构的标准化的光纤带拔力(N/m)。光纤带拔力测试测量从10米长的光缆发动光纤带堆的移动所要求的力。当然,该测试可相等地应用到松散或成束光波导。具体地,从管拔拉光纤带堆,发动移动所需要的力被除以光缆长度,从而使光纤带拔力标准化。作为用于比较的基线,柱30示出了在填充以传统润滑脂(触变材料)的管(图11)中,120根光纤的光纤带堆的光纤带拔力,其为约4.8N/m。柱32示出了在144根光纤的光纤带堆(图12)周围仅具有遇水膨胀带的传统干管设计的光纤带拔力,光纤松散地布置在管中。具体地,柱32示出了144光纤带堆的光纤带拔力,其为约0.6N/m。因而,传统干管设计(图12)具有约为填充以传统润滑脂的管(图11)的光纤带拔力的12%的光纤带拔力,其对于适当的光缆性能是不足够的。
柱34、36、38和39代表根据本发明的管组件。具体地,柱34示出了具有干燥嵌入物14的管组件10的144光纤堆的光纤带拔力,其中干燥嵌入物的未压缩高度h为约1.5mm,干燥嵌入物14的压缩为约0%。在该实施例中,柱34示出了约1.0N/m的光纤带拔力,其相对于传统干管具有令人惊奇的改善。柱36和38代表了管组件10内的干燥嵌入物14被压缩的结构,其从原始高度压缩到平均压缩后高度。更具体地,柱36代表与柱34类似的管组件的光纤带拔力,预期该实施例中干燥嵌入物14被压缩约30%。在该实施例中,柱36示出了约2.7N/m的光纤带拔力。柱38代表具有干燥嵌入物14的管组件的144光纤带堆的光纤带拔力,其中干燥嵌入物的未压缩高度h为约3mm,其在管内大约被压缩30%。在该实施例中,柱38示出了约0.5N/m的光纤带拔力。柱39代表具有干燥嵌入物14的管组件的144光纤堆的光纤带拔力,其中干燥嵌入物的未压缩高度h为约1.5mm,其被压缩17%并具有胶水小滴。在这种情况下,四个胶水小滴沿干燥嵌入物纵向连续施加,使得它们间隔开90度。该实施例的光纤带拔力为约4.0N/m。如图所示,粘合剂/胶水小滴的应用增加了光纤带拔力,而干燥嵌入物压缩较少。因而,根据本发明的概念,干燥嵌入物14的压缩最好在约10%到约90%的范围内。当然,其它适当的压缩范围也可提供想要的性能。但是,干燥嵌入物14的压缩不应大到在任何光波导中导致不适当的光学衰减,且可因粘合剂/胶水小滴的使用而得以最优化。优选地,光纤带拔力在约0.5N/m和约5.0N/m的范围内,最好在约1N/m到约4N/m的范围内。
图4示意性地示出了用于根据本发明的管组件10的示例性生产线40。生产线40包括至少一光波导开卷机41、干燥嵌入物开卷机42、压缩工作台43、胶水/粘合剂工作台43a、捆绑工作台44、十字头挤压机45、水槽46、卷线盘49。另外,管组件10可在其周围具有护层20,从而形成如图5所示的光缆50。护层20可包括强度元件19a和护套19b,其可在与管组件10一样的生产线上生产,或在第二生产线上生产。示例性的生产方法包括从各自的开卷机41和42开卷放出至少一光波导12和干燥嵌入物14。为了清楚,只示出了光波导12和干燥嵌入物14的开卷机中的一个;当然,生产线可包括任何适当数量的开卷机来生产根据本发明的管组件和光缆。接着,干燥嵌入物14在压缩工作台43被压缩到预定的高度h,且粘合剂/胶水在工作台43a被施加到干燥嵌入物14的外表面。接着,干燥嵌入物14被总体上放置在光波导12周围,捆绑工作台将一根或多根捆缚线卷绕或缝合在干燥嵌入物14周围,从而形成缆芯15。其后,缆芯15被馈送到十字头挤压机45,在那里,管18关于缆芯进行挤压,从而形成管组件10。管18接着在水槽46中淬火,接下来,管组件10被卷绕在卷带盘49上。如虚线框中所示,如果一生产线被设置来制造光缆50,则强度元件19a被开卷机47开卷并邻近于管18放置,护套19b被使用十字头挤压机48而关于强度元件19a和管18进行挤压。其后,光缆50在卷绕在卷带盘49上之前通过第二水槽46。另外,根据本发明概念的其它光缆和/或生产线也是可能的。例如,光缆和/或生产线可在管18和强度元件19a之间包括遇水膨胀带19c和/或铠装;当然,其它适当光缆构件的使用也是可能的。
图6示出了具有如图3中所使用的类似管组件的光缆的光纤带接合力。光纤带接合力测试用于在光缆于安装光缆期间遭受拉动时对施加到光波导上的力进行模仿。尽管在光纤带拔力和光纤带接合力之间的结果可能具有在同一范围内的力,但光纤带接合力通常是实际光缆性能的较好指示。
既然这样,光纤带接合测试在输送管中模拟地下光缆安装,其通过在250m长的光缆上施加600磅的张力,所述施加张力是通过将拉滑轮放置在各自的光缆端部护层上。当然,在其它模拟中,其它适当的负载、长度、和/或安装结构可被用于表征光纤带接合。接着,光波导沿其长度上的力被从光缆端部测量。光波导上的力使用Brillouin光学时域反射计(BOTDR)进行测量。确定曲线的最佳拟合斜率使光纤带接合力标准化。
作为用于比较的基线,曲线60示出了在填充以传统润滑脂的光缆(图11)中,具有120光纤的光纤带堆的光缆的标准化光纤带接合力,其为约1.75N/m。曲线62示出了在144光纤的光纤带堆周围具有遇水膨胀带的传统干管设计的光缆的光纤带接合力,光纤松散地布置在管中(图12)。具体地,曲线62示出了144光纤的光纤带堆的标准化光纤带接合力,其为约0.15N/m。因而,传统干管设计(图12)具有约为填充以传统润滑脂的管(图11)的光纤带接合力的9%的光纤带接合力,其对于适当的光缆性能是不足够的。换言之,在光缆护层的拉伸期间如在航空冰负载、航空跃步、光缆挖出、及光缆安装期间的拉动期间,传统干管式光缆的光纤带堆很容易移位。
曲线64、66、68和69代表根据本发明的光缆。具体地,曲线64示出了具有干燥嵌入物14的管组件10的144光纤堆的光缆的光纤带接合力,其中干燥嵌入物的未压缩高度h为约1.5mm,干燥嵌入物14的压缩为约0%。在该实施例中,曲线64示出了约0.80N/m的光纤带接合力,其相对于图12的传统干式光缆具有令人惊奇的改善。曲线66和68代表了管组件10内的干燥嵌入物14被压缩的光缆结构,其从原始高度压缩到平均压缩后高度。更具体地,曲线66代表与曲线64类似的光缆的光纤带接合力,预期该实施例中干燥嵌入物14被压缩约30%。在该实施例中,曲线66示出了约2.8N/m的光纤带接合力。曲线68代表具有干燥嵌入物14的管组件的光缆中144光纤带堆的光纤带接合力,其中干燥嵌入物的未压缩高度h为约3mm,其在管内大约被压缩30%。在该实施例中,曲线68示出了约0.75N/m的光纤带接合力。曲线69代表具有干燥嵌入物14的管组件的光缆中144光纤带堆的光纤带接合力,其中干燥嵌入物的未压缩高度h为约1.5mm,其在管内被压缩约17%并具有粘合剂/胶水小滴。在这种情况下,四个胶水小滴沿干燥嵌入物纵向连续施加,使得它们间隔开90度。如图所示,曲线69示出了类似约曲线66的光纤带接合力,其为约约2.80N/m,而干燥嵌入物压缩较少。因而,根据本发明的概念,光纤带接合力在约0.5N/m和约5.0N/m的范围内较好,最好在约1N/m到约4N/m的范围内。当然,其它适当的光纤带接合力范围也可提供想要的性能。
另外,本发明的概念可与其它干燥嵌入物结构一起使用。如图7中所示,干燥嵌入物74具有第一层74a和第二层74b,其包括不同的适当类型的遇水膨胀物质。在一实施例中,两种不同的遇水膨胀物质被布置在第二层14b中或其上,使得管组件10可用于多种环境和/或具有改善的阻水性能。例如,第二层14b可包括对离子化液体如盐水有效的第一遇水膨胀成分76和对非离子化液体有效的第二遇水膨胀成分78。作为例子,第一遇水膨胀材料为聚丙烯酰胺,第二遇水膨胀材料为聚丙烯酸脂超吸收剂。此外,第一和第二遇水膨胀成分76、78可占据遇水膨胀带的预定部分。通过改变遇水膨胀材料,遇水膨胀带可用于标准应用、盐水应用或二者均可。不同的遇水膨胀物质的其它变化包括具有有不同膨胀速度、胶凝强度和/或粘合剂的遇水膨胀物质。
图8示出了干燥嵌入物的另一实施例。干燥嵌入物84由三层形成。层84a和84c为遇水膨胀层,其之间夹有可压缩的层84b,以提供对至少一光波导的接合力。同样,干燥嵌入物的其它实施例可包括其它变化如至少两可压缩层夹遇水膨胀层。两可压缩层可具有不同的弹簧常数,以调整施加到至少一光波导的法向力。
图9示出了根据本发明另一实施例的具有层94a和94b的干燥嵌入物94。层94a由封闭式泡沫形成,其具有至少一穿过其的穿孔;层94b包括至少一遇水膨胀物质;当然,其它适当的材料可被用于可压缩层。封闭式泡沫用作被动阻水材料,其阻止水移动,穿孔95允许层94b的活化遇水膨胀物质朝向光波导径向向内移动。允许活化的遇水膨胀物质径向向内移动以有效阻水的任何适当大小、形状和/或型式的穿孔95均是可允许的。穿孔的大小、形状、和/或型式可根据光纤带堆的边角光波导选择和布置,从而改善边角光波导性能。例如,穿孔95可提供干燥嵌入物可压缩性的变化,从而调整光波导上的法向力以维持光学性能。
图10示出了干燥嵌入物104,其图解了本发明的其它概念。干燥嵌入物104包括层104a和104b。层104a由布置在层104b上的多个非连续可压缩单元形成,而层104b是连续的遇水膨胀层。在一实施例中,层104a的单元以正常的间隔布置,其通常与光纤带堆的铺设长度相关联。另外,各单元具有随它们的宽度w变化而变化的高度h。换言之,单元被成形以与它们想要包围的光波导的形状一致。
图13示出了光缆130,其是采用管组件10的本发明的另一实施例。光缆130包括关于管组件10的护层系统137,以保护管组件10免受压毁力和环境效应。在这种情况下,护层系统137包括遇水膨胀带132,其由捆缚线(不可见)、一对开伞索135、铠装带136、和护套138固紧。铠装带136最好是滚卷形成。当然,也可使用其它适当的制造方法。开伞索对135通常按间隔开180度、与铠装呈90度重叠进行布置,从而阻止在使用期间在铠装带边缘上的开伞索的切断。在优选实施例中,适于通过铠装带扯开的开伞索具有2003年8月29日申请的美国专利申请10/652,046中公开的结构,其公开内容通过引用组合于此。铠装带136或可是电介质或可是金属材料。如果使用电介质铠装带,光缆还可包括金属丝,以使光缆可用于埋藏式应用中。换言之,金属丝使光缆可上色。护套138通常包围铠装带136并对光缆130提供环境保护。当然,也可使用其它适当的护层系统。
图14示出了光缆140。光缆140包括在护层系统142内形成缆芯141的至少一光波导12和干燥嵌入物14。换言之,光缆140是无管设计,因为接近缆芯141是通过单独切开护层系统142实现。护层系统142还包括嵌入于其中、且间隔开180度布置的强度元件142a,从而给予光缆一优先弯曲。当然,其它护层系统结构如不同类型、数量、和/或强度元件142a的放置均是可能的。光缆140还可包括布置在缆芯141和护层142之间的一个或多个开伞索145,其用于扯开护层142,从而允许技术工人能容易地接近缆芯141。
图15示出了具有多个关于中央元件151绞合的管组件10的光缆150。具体地,管组件10与多个嵌条153一起均关于中央元件151进行S-Z绞合,并用一个或多个捆缚线(不可见)固紧,从而形成绞合的缆芯。绞合的缆芯具有遇水膨胀带156,其在护套158挤压在其上之前用捆缚线(不可见)固紧。可选地,芳族聚酰胺纤维、其它适当的强度元件和/或阻水构件如遇水膨胀线均可关于中央元件151绞合,从而形成一部分绞合的缆芯。同样,遇水膨胀构件如线或带可被放置在中央元件151周围以阻止水沿光缆150的中部移动。光缆150的其它变化可包括铠装带、内护套、和/或不同数量的管组件。
在所附权利要求的范围内,本发明的许多变化和其它实施例对本领域技术人员而言将是显而易见的。例如,光波导可以各种光纤带堆或结构的型式形成,如梯状剖面的光纤带堆。根据本发明的光缆还可包括一个以上的螺旋形绞合的光管组件,而不是S-Z绞合结构。另外,本发明的干燥嵌入物可被如所示那样层压在一起或应用为一个构件。因此,应该理解的是,本发明不限于在此公开的具体实施例,在所附权利要求的范围内可进行修改和其它实施。尽管在此采用了特定的术语,它们均一一般性的和描述性的意义使用,并不用于限制的目的。本发明已结合基于硅石的光波导进行描述,但本发明的创造性概念均可用于其它适当的光波导和/或光缆结构。例如,本发明的干燥嵌入物适于其它类型的、在缆芯周围具有护层的无管光缆。
Claims (9)
1.制造光管组件的方法,包括:
开卷放出至少一光波导;
将至少一干燥嵌入物压缩并将该至少一干燥嵌入物放置在至少一光波导周围使得至少一干燥嵌入物至少部分与至少一光波导接触,从而形成一中心体,其中至少一干燥嵌入物包括泡沫带和至少一遇水膨胀层;及
将管挤压在中心体周围,其中至少一光波导具有0.5N/m和5.0N/m之间的标准化拔力。
2.根据权利要求1所述的方法,标准化拔力为1N/m和4N/m之间。
3.根据权利要求1所述的方法,至少一干燥嵌入物具有至少一穿孔。
4.根据权利要求1所述的方法,还包括用捆缚线固紧中心体的步骤。
5.根据权利要求1所述的方法,在选自1310nm、1550nm和1625nm的组的基准波长时,至少一光波导的光学衰减维持在0.4dB/km以下。
6.根据权利要求1所述的方法,泡沫带跨其宽度具有非统一的高度。
7.根据权利要求1所述的方法,还包括邻近于管放置至少一强度元件并在其周围挤压护套的步骤,从而形成光缆。
8.根据权利要求7所述的方法,光缆具有0.5N/m和5N/m之间的标准化光纤带接合力。
9.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中至少一干燥嵌入物包括泡沫带。
