技术领域
本发明涉及在计算机网络中的装置之间安全传输多媒体内容并在装置中安全回放该多媒体内容。
背景技术
在该部分描述的方法为可能追求的方法，但并非为必然已在先前构思或追求的方法。因此，除非另外指出，该部分描述的方法可不是本申请中权利要求书的现有技术，并不认为是包括在该部分的现有技术。
TV观众可利用录像机(VCR)录制播放的TV节目。因此，VCR用户可在特定的TV节目播放的同时录制并在以后的时间播放该相同的已录制的TV节目。为了实现该要求，VCR将表现TV节目的电信号改变为磁信号并将该磁信号存储在磁带上。该磁带通常为由用户插入到VCR中的录像带。当VCR用户想要回放TV节目时，该过程反转，并且VCR将存储在录像带上的磁信号改变为电信号并将电信号发送给电视机。
随着数字技术的发展，VCR正由数字录像机(DVR)取代。类似于VCR，DVR通过将TV节目的电信号改变为数字信息并将该数字信息存储在存储器装置中，来录制用于以后回放的已播出的TV节目。当用户回放录制的TV节目时，DVR将数字信息转换为模拟信号并将该信号传送给向观众显示TV节目的电视机。

同时，提供TV节目的内容服务器关心保护并监视有版权的节目材料。因此，内容服务器不希望DVR用户随意地将TV节目传输给未授权的装置或发布录制的TV节目给其他未授权的DVR用户。
优选地是建立一种安全的通信系统，用户可通过该系统将来自DVR的录制的TV节目和其他多媒体内容传输给个人电脑(PC)。另外，所述系统将提供给用户以安全的方式，即保护节目材料提供者的版权，将来自PC的录制的节目传输到其他装置的能力。

本发明提供了一种用于多媒体内容的安全传输和回放的方法和设备。在以下的说明书中，为了提供对本发明更全面的理解以说明为目的描述了多个具体的实施例。然而显然，没有这些具体细节也可实施本发明。在其他实施例中，为了避免不必要地混淆本发明，以方框图的形式示出公知的结构和装置。

1.0一般描述
在本发明中实现了以上背景技术中指出的要求，以及在以下描述中将变得显而易见的其他要求和目标，其中，在一个技术方案中，本发明包括一种用于提供多媒体内容的安全传输和回放的方法。提供给DVR用户可将来自DVR的内容安全传输至PC并进一步传输至便携装置的方法。DVR通过执行发现操作具有识别局域网(LAN)中PC和其他DVR的能力。在发现过程中，DVR可确定LAN上的哪个装置授权共享和/或获取来自DVR的内容。在LAN上的PC中，媒体应用程序用于与DVR通信并启动从DVR向PC的内容传输。当媒体应用程序装置在PC上时，它向用户请求用于识别特定DVR的信息。在一实施方式中，该信息可为与DVR相关的媒体访问密钥的形式。当用户将该媒体访问密钥提供给媒体应用程序时，该程序找到LAN上相关的DVR并向DVR发送连接请求。
当DVR接收连接请求时，它通过例如，将所提供的媒体访问密钥与DVR媒体访问密钥相比较而鉴别该请求。如果媒体访问密钥匹配，则DVR建立与PC的安全连接，其可通过利用诸如公共密钥加密或图灵(turing)加密算法的多种加密方法对DVR和PC之间的所有消息进行加密完成。另外，DVR可利用哈希算法，诸如信息摘要-5(MD5)或安全哈希算法-1(SHA-1)以在DVR和PC之间标记所有消息。因此，当PC接收来自DVR的消息时，它采用合适的加密密钥以将该消息解密为原始的形式。
一旦PC和DVR建立了安全连接，则能够在装置之间多媒体内容的安全传输。为此目的，位于PC上的媒体应用程序形成用于请求并观看位于DVR上的内容列表并选择传输内容的图象的用户界面。因此，采用该媒体应用程序，用户可以请求来自DVR的内容列表。当收到该请求时，DVR生成内容列表并将该列表发送至PC，其经由媒体应用程序向用户显示可用的内容。接着，用户选择从DVR向PC传输哪些内容。用户可选择可能存储在DVR上的任何内容，其包括，但不限于：录制的TV节目、音乐文件、电影、图像或DVR利用宽带连接从内容服务器下载的内容。

在另一实施方式中，PC可在没有用户参与下，通过具有用户从DVR到PC的预定传输而自动获取来自DVR的内容。此外，用户可用通过便携式装置同步其接收的任意内容。用户可通过经由PC或便携装置访问的服务提供商网站而定制内容的获取。另外，系统的宽带应用是可行的。在系统的这种应用中，内容服务器允许DVR通过宽带网络诸如互联网选择将要在DVR上传输和观看的内容。
在其他技术方案中，本发明包括设计用于执行前述步骤的计算机设备和计算机可读介质。
2.0结构描述
参照图1A，其示出了根据一实施方式的用于在DVR和PC之间共享内容的通信系统。该通信系统包括DVR102A、102B和104。.DVR102B和104通过任意合适的通信接口，诸如以太网(Ethernet)或者无线通信端口与局域网(LAN)105通信连接。PC101可为诸如桌上或膝上计算机的个人计算机装置，并通过任意合适的接口连接至LAN105。便携装置101A可通信连接至PC或LAN105。在一实施方式中，便携装置101A可为用于播放多媒体内容的手提计算机装置、手机、便携媒体播放器等。通过LAN105和互联网107，DVR102和102B可与服务提供商106A和内容服务器106B通信。
内容服务器106B通过网络连接将多媒体内容提供给DVR。例如，DVR102可从内容服务商106B下载用于在连接的电视机上回放或利用本文所述的方法传输至PC101的内容。
在该实施例中，PC101、DVR102A和102B和便携装置101A均为家庭网络190上授权的共享装置。PC110和DVR104为与LAN105连接的未授权的共享装置。
在一实施方式中，加载在家庭网络190上的DVR102A与服务提供商106A通信，该服务提供商106A提供节目指南数据、图像资源(诸如字体、图片等)、服务信息、软件程序、广告和能使DVR102A独立于服务提供商106运行而满足观众需要的其他形式的数据。DVR102A和服务提供商106之间的通信利用安全分配架构在DVR102A和服务提供商106A之间传输数据从而服务数据和用户隐私都得到保护。在申请者拥有的美国专利No.6,233,389中描述了DVR的功能，在此引入其全部内容作为参考。
参照图1B，在实施方式中，DVR102通常包括通过信号转换器154表示的多个部件，信号转换器154对数字化模拟电视信号并将它转换为数字数据流或接收数字数据流来说是必不可少的。DVR102A经由输入152A接收来自天线、有线电视系统、卫星接收器等的播放信号。输入152A可包括允许多个同时接收和录制多个信号的多个调谐模块。
录制模块160通过将数字数据流存储在至少一个由设计用于保留分段的数字数据流的存储器164表示的存储设备上，来录制输入的数据流。信号转换器154获取分段的数据流，将该数据流转换为模拟信号，并随后经由输出152B将该信号调制到射频(RF)载波上，该信号通过输出152B输送至普通的电视机。输出152B可以任选地将数字信号输送至电视机或视频监控器。例如，DVR101可利用用于将数字信号经由DVI线发送至TV的数字可视接口(DVI)的端口。
DVR102A还包括通信接口162，通过该接口162，DVR102A经由以太网、无线网络、调制解调器或其他通信标准与网络105通信。另外，DVR102A可以集成在电视系统中，从而以上所述的组件加载在能执行DVR102A各组件功能的电视机中。
在另一实施方式中，DVR102A通常包括用于接收、录制、存储、传输和回放来自诸如PC、DVR、服务提供商或内容服务器的多个源的数字数据信号必须的多个组件。DVR102A能将数字数据信号传输给另一DVR或PC。DVR102A可经由编码器156A和解码器156B将数据信号编码或解码为用于回放、存储或传输的多种格式。为了数字数据信号的存储、传输或回放，DVR102A还可利用加密器/解密器158对数字数据信号进行加密或解密。
DVR102A可利用由通信接口162表示的内部电话调制解调器直接与服务提供商106A或内容服务器106B连接以拨号进入服务提供商106A的呼入电话调制解调器组。可选地，DVR102A可通过通信接口162经由局域网(LAN)105间接地与服务提供商106A或内容服务器106B连接，其中所述局域网反过来通过互联网107与服务提供商106A和内容服务器106B连接。LAN105可利用线缆调制解调器或路由器与互联网107连接从而位于LAN105上的多个装置可与互联网107连接。
DVR102A通过与LAN路由器的连接启动与LAN105的连接以获得家庭网络190的本地IP地址。DVR还可通过利用内部调制解调器和电话线呼叫互联网服务提供商(ISP)的本地访问电话号码启动与互联网107的连接。ISP将网络连接请求传送给用于身份验证的服务提供商106。一旦得到验证，则授权该网络连接并允许DVR102A访问服务提供商106A。
在用户的PC101上，专门编码媒体应用程序以与一个或多个DVR通信并该媒体应用程序用于加密和解密多媒体内容。媒体应用程序提供用于观看在每个共享DVR上的内容并选择获取内容的用户界面。另外，媒体应用程序可提供用于在LAN105上建立共享PC和DVR的网络的图形用户界面。
3.0用于提供多媒体内容的安全传输和回放的方法
3.1在DVR和PC之间建立安全连接
每个DVR1012A、102B经过发现阶段以寻找并建立与LAN上的其他装置的安全连接。可利用任意合适的发现协议(例如，苹果计算机公司的Rendezvous)执行发现，以及可设置在指定的时间间隔或用户请求下自动运行所述发现步骤。在发现期间，DVR102A寻找LAN105上相邻的DVR102B、104和PC101、110并识别一个或多个作为授权共享装置的装置。例如，DVR102A可识别DVR102B作为授权的共享装置，也可识别DVR104作为未授权的装置。因此，由DVR104尝试的任何请求将被拒绝。为了确定连接至LAN105的哪个装置为授权共享装置，DVR102可咨询由服务提供商106A提供的数字共享认证。
为了提供给DVR102A数字共享认证，用户登录服务提供商106A网站以创建想要被认为是授权共享装置的装置记录。利用任意合适的用户界面，用户输入他想要包含的装置的序列号或MAC地址，服务提供商106可通过它的数据库或利用用户先前输入的位置信息进行确认。此后，服务提供商106A创建识别用户授权共享装置的数字共享认证。该认证可包含每个装置的序列号、MAC地址和对应的公共密钥。可选地，该认证可包含用于识别DVR或PC的任意其他专有信息。
数字共享认证可通知DVR它可与在数字共享认证中列出的其他DVR共享它的存储内容，并且还可获取来自这些DVR的内容。一旦PC确认它知道DVR的私有信息，例如，它的媒体访问密钥或MAC地址，它还可通知DVR即DVR可与PC共享它的存储内容。根据服务提供商106A配置DVR的方式，DVR可使自身与单独PC成对(以提供更安全的环境)或者它可自身与多个PC成对。
服务提供商106A将数字共享认证分配给数字共享认证中列出的DVR。当DVR执行用于它们电子节目指南的任何更新或软件更新而与服务提供商106A的定期联络时，DVR通常接收数字共享认证。如果DVR与互联网107连接，服务提供商106A还可经由互联网107将数字共享认证推动给DVR。
在运行中，如果DVR104向DVR102A请求存储在DVR102A上的多媒体内容的列表，则DVR102A检查它的共享认证并发现DVR104没有列为授权的共享装置。DVR102A随后拒绝DVR104多媒体内容的请求。
用户可指出特定的DVR，例如DVR102A可以，通过局域网或者具体地，通过用户的PC101共享局域网上的内容。因此，当DVR102A随后与服务提供商106A联络时，服务提供商将发送消息给DVR102A，使它能在LAN105上共享内容。DVR102A可接受来自指定与DVR的媒体访问密钥匹配的媒体访问密钥任何装置的连接。
在PC101上，媒体应用程序特定地编码以与任意DVR102A、102B、104通信，并用于加密和解密内容。媒体应用程序提供用于观看在每个共享的DVR102A、102B上的内容并选择用于获取的内容的用户界面。另外，媒体应用程序可提供用于建立在用户的LAN上共享PC和DVR的网络的界面。利用该界面，用户可识别位于家庭网络109上的任意PC或DVR并选择特定的PC或DVR作为授权的共享装置。媒体应用程序的另一功能为对多媒体内容编码或转换代码而用于传输给便携装置101A。
当PC101加载它的媒体应用程序时，该程序利用Rendezvous执行例如LAN105上相邻的DVR102A、102B和104的发现。在发现期间，PC可以识别一个或者多个授权的共享DVR102A和DVR102B。在本发明的其他实施方式中，用户可向媒体应用程序提供在LAN105上将特定DVR识别为授权共享DVR的信息。该识别信息可为媒体访问密钥、序列号或DVR的任意其他专有标识。因此，当PC执行发现时，PC可仅搜索指定为授权共享DVR102A、102B的那些DVR。
在其他实施方式中，当PC101加载媒体应用程序时，媒体应用程序可请求用于授权PC101用户的用户信息。例如，当用户初始化媒体应用程序时，媒体应用程序可请求用于访问媒体应用程序或由用户原始设置的由服务提供商106A提供的用户ID和密码。当用户输入他的信息时，媒体应用程序将提供的信息与由媒体应用程序保存的信息相比较而确定用户是否被授权使用该程序。
另外，当用户试图使媒体应用程序与DVR102A成对时，媒体应用程序可请求与LAN105上DVR102A相关的媒体访问密钥。在一实施方式中，每个DVR102A、102B和104分别与用于访问存储在DVR上内容的专有媒体访问密码相关。通过DVR的用户界面可获取媒体访问密钥。在其他实施方式中，可由服务提供商106A向用户提供用于DVR102A的媒体访问密钥。例如，用户访问服务提供商106A的网站并通过将用户名和密码提供给服务提供商106A获得用于DVR102A的媒体访问密钥。
图2为根据一实施方式的用于在DVR102A和PC101之间建立安全连接的过程的流程图。在步骤202，PC101加载媒体应用程序。如果确定这是首次媒体应用程序加载在PC101上，则媒体应用程序利用PC101的显示器向用户请求媒体访问密钥从而使媒体应用程序从DVR获取存储内容的列表。另外，如果确定用户对于特定的媒体应用程序将新的DVR102B添加入他的共享DVR的列表，则媒体应用程序可向用户请求媒体访问密钥。
在步骤206，当用户将媒体访问密钥提供给媒体应用程序时，媒体应用程序定位与LAN105上提供的媒体访问密钥相关的DVR102A。一旦已定位所选的DVR102A，媒体应用程序使PC101发送连接请求给DVR102A。PC101和用于确认的所提供的媒体访问密钥一起发送连接请求。在其他实施方式中，PC101可采用任意其他可接受形式的确认。
在步骤203，在接收连接请求之前，DVR102A将确定是否授权在LAN105上共享内容。例如，DVR102A可确定在接收例如，来自服务提供商106A的数字共享认证中的授权通知之后授权在LAN105上共享内容。如果DVR102A确定没有授权在LAN105上共享内容，则DVR102A将拒绝所有进来的连接。
否则，在步骤209，DVR102A授权共享它的多媒体内容并接收来自PC101的连接请求。在一实施方式中，DVR接收来自服务提供商106A表示DVR102A可能与正确表示DVR媒体访问密钥的任何PC成对的通知。在另一实施方式中，DVR可请求附加的参数，从而DVR要求PC101还可位于DVR的局域网内。
接下来，在步骤211，DVR102A通过将由PC提供的媒体访问密钥与DVR自己的媒体访问密钥相比较而确认连接请求。如果密钥匹配，则DVR102A可通过发送确认给PC101而建立安全连接。
另外地，为了建立安全连接，DVR102A可指定用于加密DVR和PC之间的所有消息的公共加密密钥。因此，当PC101接收来自DVR102A的确认时，PC将具有DVR102A的公共加密密钥并可利用该密钥发送安全消息给DVR102A。另外，PC101还可发送它自己的公共加密密钥给DVR102A，从而DVR102A可发送安全消息给PC101。因此，在DVR102A和PC101之间建立安全连接。可选地，可利用任意可用的加密算法，例如，图灵加密算法而建立安全连接。另外，可利用加密密钥系统而建立安全连接。在该系统中，可用利用装置MAC地址的信息摘要5(MD5)算法或安全哈希算法-1(SHA-1)生成的加密密钥标记消息。随后DVR102A或PC101利用所生成的加密密钥而将标记的消息解密为原始的格式。
最初地，利用与DVR相关的媒体访问密钥可设计媒体应用程序与该DVR成对。在另一实施方式中，可设计媒体应用程序与LAN105上的超过一个的DVR通信。媒体应用程序可提供输入多个对应于LAN105上多个DVR的媒体访问密钥的能力。在该实施例中，媒体应用程序可允许PC101建立与DVR102A和DVR102B两者的安全连接。
可选地，在建立与一个DVR的安全连接之后，媒体应用程序可识别用户LAN上的所有共享DVR。例如，在一实施方式中，当PC与第一DVR建立安全连接时，第一DVR提供给PC共享认证。该共享认证可已由服务提供商106A或可选地由另一DVR提供。共享认证识别用户LAN上所有授权共享内容的DVR，并可包含每个DVR的媒体访问密钥。在一实施方式中，在用户已经在服务提供商106A的网站上选择了授权共享DVR之后，服务提供商106A发送共享认证给PC。因此，服务提供商106A建立共享认证并将它通过互联网107传输给PC101。在另一实施方式中，PC媒体应用程序可获取来自最初成对的DVR102A的共享认证。
3.2在DVR和PC之间传输多媒体内容
一旦PC101和DVR102A建立了连接，则装置之间多媒体内容的安全传输激活。可建立从DVR102A到PC101或从PC101到DVR102A的内容的安全传输。
参照图3，在步骤302，一旦连接已建立，利用PC101上的媒体应用程序的用户可请求向用户显示DVR102A的内容。可选地，每次媒体应用程序加载在PC101上时，媒体应用程序可自动地产生内容请求并将它发送给DVR102A。接下来，在步骤303，当DVR102A接收内容请求时，它产生列出存储在DVR102A上的多媒体内容的数据并向PC101发送包括含有DVR102A上的可用内容的列表的元数据的包。在步骤306，当媒体应用程序接收该包时，它经由步骤308的用户界面将可用的内容显示给用户。
参照图3B，其示出了根据一实施方式的媒体应用程序的用户界面。在程序窗口350，媒体应用程序向用户显示存储在DVR102A上的内容358的列表。用户可利用选择按钮352从内容358的列表选择具体的节目，使媒体应用程序产生将来自DVR102A的所选的节目传输至PC101的请求。媒体应用程序反过来将该请求发送给DVR以开始传输。
一旦传输已开始，程序窗口350通过显示传输状态信息354允许用户跟踪传输过程。传输状态信息354可包括正在传输的多媒体内容的量，以及完成该传输剩余的时间。利用内容列表358，用户可选择特定的多媒体内容并观看信息窗口356中的特定多媒体内容的详细信息。信息窗口356可包含多媒体内容相关的信息，其包括特定多媒体内容的标题、描述、时长和速率。另外，信息窗口356可包含控制按钮356A和356B。例如，播放按钮356A允许用户在用户PC101上播放所选的多媒体内容以及停止传输按钮356B允许用户停止从DVR102A向PC101的多媒体内容传输。
回到图3A，在步骤310A，利用媒体应用程序，用户可从DVR102A上的可用内容358的列表选择多媒体内容。请求的多媒体内容可为完全运动的视频节目、音频内容、图片内容，或可能存储在DVR102A上的任何其他内容。在步骤310B，媒体应用程序随后将来自PC101的请求发送给DVR102A。在步骤311，DVR102A接收该请求并定位可能存储在DVR存储器中或可由DVR102A访问的其他存储装置中的内容。一旦DVR102A已定位所请求的多媒体内容，DVR102A开始用于将内容传输至PC101的准备过程。
为了使PC正确地读取并解释多媒体内容，DVR102A可将它的多媒体内容的内部表示(internal presentation)转换为由计算机可读的程序流(programstream)。在一实施方式中，多媒体内容的内部表示为PC不可读的内部打包的基本码流(PES)格式。在由申请者拥有的美国专利No.6,233,389B1中详细描述了内部PES格式，在此引用其全部内容作为参考。另外，一种计算机可读的程序流格式为运动图像专家组(MPEG)格式，其中MPEG-2和MPEG-4为典型常用的格式。可选地，可采用其他数字格式。
因此，在步骤313，DVR102A将请求的多媒体内容的内部PES格式转换为MPEG程序流。在其他实施方式中，DVR102A可将内部PES格式转换为PC101可读的任意格式。可选地，可在PC中进行从内部PES到MPEG程序流的转换。因此，DVR102将其包括如进一步描述的附加数据的内部PES格式发送至PC101。为提供实施例的目的，在图5中示出了将内部PES格式转换为MPEG程序流的过程，并且在后文部分E中进行描述。
在转换之后，在步骤315，DVR102A可将附加数据附属在MPEG程序流中。在PC中执行转换的情况下，在将多媒体内容发送给PC101之前，DVR102A将附加数据附属在多媒体内容的内部PES格式中。附加数据在任意情况下，可为例如包括请求多媒体内容的信息的内容数据。许可数据可包含关于用户存储和播放多媒体内容的能力的信息。例如，用户可能受限在PC上存储内容三天。
图4为根据一实施方式的MPEG内容流400的概略图。MPEG内容405包含表示请求多媒体内容的数据。MPEG内容流405以由PC101可读格式的交错的视频405A、音频405B和数据包组成。附加数据401-404可附属在用于传输至PC101的MPEG内容流405中。
在一实施方式中，附加数据可包括元数据401、公共元数据402、私有元数据403和许可数据404。例如，元数据401和公共元数据402可包含关于内容本身的信息，诸如内容名称、时长，可能播放的广告和其他内容注释。私有元数据403可包含诸如按次付费收看电影的客户信息、客户账单信息、客户偏好等的其他信息。认证数据404可包含关于包括回放限制或存储限制的用户认证限制的信息。
可选地，许可数据可指示内容的有效期或时间，从而一旦指示的有效期或时间已过，在PC101上运行的媒体应用程序将从PC存储器删除或者清除所传输的内容。可选地，这种有效期的已过可使媒体应用程序显示给用户表示多媒体内容期满的消息。另外，许可数据可指示可观看的多媒体内容的次数，从而一旦用户超过观看限度，PC101将从PC存储器删除内容。
在另一实施方式中，附加数据可包括DVR原始数据。例如，MPEG内容流405可包括诸如DVR102A的序列号或MAC地址的信息。另外，DVR原始数据可包括采用DVR102A的私钥的签名。
在另一实施方式中，DVR还可将独特的水印添加位于程序流中的数据上。例如，DVR102A可通过插入表示DVR102A序列号的数据修改程序流400。在视频或照片内容中，水印可为可见的，从而当多媒体内容回放时，原始的DVR信息以无干扰的方式显示在屏幕上。可选地，水印可为用户不可见的或不可察觉的从而水印数据隐藏在程序流中，但仍可用于确认。
回到图3，在DVR102A将附加数据附属在程序流400中之后，在步骤317，DVR102A可以如以上所述加密DVR和PC之间消息的相同方式来加密用于安全传输至PC101的程序流。DVR102A可决定加密全部程序流400，或可选地，仅加密程序流400的特定部分，诸如MPEG内容流405和私有元数据403。
在步骤319，DVR102A将程序流发送给PC101。当PC101接收程序流时，在步骤322，它解密以上所述的程序流400。可选地，如果DVR102A采用不同的加密算法，则PC101将采用用于解密程序流400的各自的算法。在PC101解密了程序流之后，PC101可将程序流存储在PC本地或可移动的存储器上。

在回放期间，PC101可利用程序流400的附加数据401-404以显示内容信息或执行授权内容回放的许可检查。另外，一旦程序流已解密并存储，PC101可将多媒体内容传输给诸如便携装置101A的另一装置。可通过任意方式实现至便携装置101A的传输。例如，媒体应用程序可提供用于使存储在PC101上的多媒体内容与便携装置101A同步的选项。同步可在LAN105上或直接通过串行电缆或无线接口进行。另外，为了在便携装置101A上正确回放，PC101可通过将程序流转换为便携装置101A可读的格式，进一步转换存储的程序流的代码。
在另一实施方式中，PC101可能已存储了用户想要利用他的DVR102A访问的多媒体内容。在PC101和DVR102A已建立如上所述的安全连接之后，DVR102A可向PC101请求多媒体内容。采用位于DVR102A上的图形用户界面，用户可选择用于从PC101获取的多媒体内容。PC上的多媒体内容可为从内容服务商106B下载的内容，来自另一DVR102B的内容，或由用户已拥有并存储在PC101上的多媒体内容。另外，多媒体内容可为由便携装置101A提供的内容。在一实施方式中，便携装置101A为具有录制、存储并回放视频内容能力的可视电话。因此，便携装置101A可将存储的视频节目传输给PC101，反过来也可以将视频节目传输给DVR102A。在其他实施方式中，便携装置101A可为能将多媒体内容传输至PC101的任意装置。
为了将来自PC101的内容传输给DVR102A，反转将来自DVR的内容传输至PC的传输过程。然而，取代转换程序流，PC101仅加密MPEG程序流并将它发送给DVR102A。当DVR102A接收MPEG程序流时，它例如利用反转以上PES-MPEG转换过程而解密该程序流并将它转换为内部PES格式。可选地，DVR可在没有转换或解密的情况下，将MPEG程序流存储在存储装置上。

在用户想要预定获取DVR还未录制的多媒体内容的情况下，媒体应用程序用于使DVR102A录制特定的节目并接着将该录制的内容传输给PC101。PC101上的媒体应用程序还用于确定特定的多媒体内容是否已录制并存储在DVR102A上。例如，媒体应用程序可定期地请求存储在DVR102A上的录制内容列表以确定特定的多媒体内容是否已存储。如果多媒体内容没有列出已存储在DVR102A中，则媒体应用程序将不会启动从DVR102A到PC101的内容传输。另外，媒体应用程序可确认要预定录制的特定的多媒体内容，以及如果没有录制，可指示102A在合适的时间录制该内容(例如，利用从电子节目指南获取的信息)。一旦媒体应用程序确定特定的多媒体内容已存储在DVR102A上，则媒体应用程序利用以上所述用于传输内容的过程启动在DVR102A和PC101之间的内容传输。
可选地，用户可通过服务提供商106A预定内容的获取。例如，用户可访问服务提供商106A的网站以表示用户想要将来自DVR102A的特定多媒体内容传输至PC101。一旦内容已由DVR102A录制并存储，用户可指示在预定时间或自动传输该多媒体内容。随后，服务提供商106A将命令PC101利用用户的设置请求并获取来自DVR102A内容的消息发送给PC101。
可选地，服务提供商106A可命令PC101从DVR102A获取用户未请求的的其他多媒体内容。例如，服务提供商106A可命令PC101接收服务提供商106A希望用户在PC101上观看的一系列视频广告。服务提供商106A具有经由DVR102A将内容推动给PC101的能力。这能使服务提供商106A实现广告商和内容供应商付费给服务提供商106A以使他们的内容推动给用户PC101的基于付费的服务。付费可基于仅将内容放置在PC101上，实际用户观看在PC上的内容的情况，即广告商或内容服务商的付费基于用户实际观看的内容的情况，或两者的组合。媒体应用程序具有报告给服务提供商106A哪些已被观看，该内容已被观看多少次，以及每个内容已被观看多少，以及可测量的其他的用户观看统计。
因此，用户不需要使用PC101上的媒体应用程序启动传输。取代地，用户仅需要指示该用户想要将哪些特定的内容从DVR102A传输至PC101。另外，如果用户请求传输还未在DVR102上录制或者存储的多媒体内容，则服务提供商106A可能直到服务提供商106A确定多媒体内容在DVR102A上为可获得时才指示PC101获取该多媒体内容。
在一实施方式中，服务提供商106A可利用通过互联网107直接与DVR102A连接而确定多媒体内容在DVR102上为可获得的。可选地，服务提供商106A可利用经过电话线建立与DVR102A的连接而作出该确定。DVR102A可启动该连接或者服务提供商106A也可启动该连接。服务提供商106A保留包含DVR102录制多媒体内容和预定录制的数据库信息。每次服务提供商106A与DVR102A连接时，服务提供商106A更新它的数据库以正确地反馈DVR102A录制的内容和预定的录制。因此，服务提供商106A检查数据库以确定DVR102A是否包含录制的内容或已预定特定的录制。

另外地，可由便携装置101A启动以上所述的过程。在该实施方式中，便携装置101A可用于访问服务提供商106A的网站。因此，便携装置101A可用作选择并预定从DVR02A到PC101的多媒体内容传输。另外，在一实施方式中，服务提供商106A可确定从DVR102A到PC101的多媒体内容传输的完成时间。例如，一旦传输完成，DVR102A或PC101可通过互联网107发送消息给服务提供商106A。随后，服务提供商106A可通过互联网107向便携装置101A发送表示传输完成的消息。另外，在另一实施方式中，便携装置101A可为手机，以及服务提供商106A可请求手机网络运营商利用手机网络向手机发送通知消息。
系统的宽带应用也是可能的。在系统的这种应用中，内容服务商允许DVR102A通过诸如互联网107的宽带网络选择待传输和在DVR102上观看的内容。例如，DVR102A可经由互联网107从内容服务器106B下载用于在DVR102A上回放或存储的内容。

屏幕503包括用于从内容服务商106B购买并启动多媒体内容的下载的选项。一旦用户选择购买并下载多媒体内容，DVR102A发送请求给内容服务商106B以启动多媒体内容到DVR102A的传输。在其他实施方式中，用户可在没有从内容服务商106B购买多媒体内容的情况下而下载该多媒体内容。例如，用户可能已先前对多媒体内容付费或多媒体内容可能为免费的。
为了确保通过互联网107在内容服务器106B和DVR102A之间所述内容的安全传输，多媒体内容可利用DVR102A的公共加密密钥由内容服务器106B进行加密。DVR102A的公共加密密钥可从DVR102A或服务提供商106A提供给内容服务器106B。一旦DVR102A接收加密的多媒体内容，它可解密并存储该用于回放的内容。在另一实施方式中，从内容服务器106B下载的多媒体内容可利用以上所述的过程随后传输至PC101或另一DVR102B。
3.3内部PES到MPEG-2转换过程
在一实施方式中，DVR102A以内部PES格式存储用于回放的所录制的多媒体内容。然而，为使PC101处理该多媒体内容，内部PES格式必须转换成PC可读格式。在一实施方式中，这种PC可读格式为MPEG程序流。参照图6，多媒体内容的内部PES表示由PES缓冲器604表示，其包含多媒体内容的视频事件(V)和音频事件(A)。另外地，在其他实施方式中，PES缓冲器604可包含诸如私有数据事件的其他事件。为了开始将内部PES缓冲器604的数据转换为MPEG程序流400的过程，DVR102A分配音频缓冲器612和视频缓冲器614。
解析器606读取PES缓冲器中的每个事件并将音频或视频数据放置在各自的缓冲器612或614中。因此，视频事件(V)将解析至视频缓冲器612中以及音频事件(A)将解析至音频缓冲器614中。
视频缓冲器612和音频缓冲器614由打包器620监控。当预定量的视频或音频数据填充了每个缓冲器，打包器620开始在分组交换网络中创建用于多媒体内容传输的包。在一实施方式中，包包含标题部分和数据部分。打包器620通过从各个缓冲器提取视频或音频数据并将它放置在每个包的数据部分中创建包。例如，打包器606可在视频缓冲器612中为每5千字节的数据创建一个包。例如，假设视频缓冲器612中的每个视频事件(V)表示1KB。当五个视频事件(V)进入视频缓冲器612时，打包器606确定足够的数据(5KB)已填满视频缓冲器612，并将表示5个视频事件(V)的数据插入到包的数据部分中。
另外，在另一实施方式中，打包器620用于将附加数据放在每个包的标题部分中。例如，打包器620可将标题数据插入包中，表示音频和视频数据已利用MPEG标准编码。当打包器完成创建包P1时，它将包放在输出流630中。在一实施方式中，输出流630中的包P1-P5供应给用于利用合适的加密算法对每个包加密的加密模块640。可选地，加密模块640可用于利用结合DVR的MAC地址或媒体访问密钥采用SHA-1生成的加密密钥标记消息。最后，输出流630中的每个包发送至PC101。不同于多媒体内容的内部PES表示，得到的输出流630为PC101可读的格式。
在另一实施方式中，取代利用内部PES格式，DVR102A可存储多媒体内容作为MPEG程序流。在一实施方式中，MPEG程序流为MPEG-2或MPEG-4程序流。因此，DVR102A将不需要转换用于传输至PC101的数据流。例如，当DVR102A启动将多媒体内容传输至PC101时，DVR102A从存储器获取MPEG程序流，将数据流解析为数据包并将该数据包发送至PC101。如以上所述，DVR102A还可加密发送至PC101的数据。当PC101接收每个包时，它将该包重新组合为MPEG程序流并将数据流存储在存储器上。当用户想要回放多媒体内容时，PC101从存储器获取MPEG程序流，解密数据流并将多媒体内容显示给用户。另外，PC101可转换MPEG程序流代码，用于传输至便携装置101A。在另一实施方式中，PC101可在没有任何进一步处理的情况下将MPEG程序流直接发送至便携装置101A。例如，便携装置101A可用于存储并回放以MPEG格式的多媒体内容。
可选地，DVR102A可通过任意适合于在DVR102A上存储和/或回放格式存储多媒体内容。另外，DVR102A或PC101可将多媒体内容转换为适合于在PC101上或便携装置101A上存储和/或回放的任意格式。
4.0实施装置-硬件描述
图7为可实施本发明实施方式的计算机系统700的方框图。计算机系统700包括总线702或用于通讯信息的其它通信装置，以及与总线702连接的用于处理信息的处理器704。计算机系统700还包括与总线702联接用于存储要通过处理器704执行的信息和指令的主存储器706，诸如随机存储器(RAM)或其他动态存储器的。在由处理器704将执行的指令执行期间，主存储器706还可用于存储临时变量或其他中间信息。计算机系统700进一步包括只读存储器(ROM)708或连接至总线702的用于为处理器704存储静态信息和指令的其他静态存储器。提供诸如磁盘或光盘的存储装置710，其与总线702连接并用于存储信息和指令。
计算机系统700可经由总线702与诸如阴极射线管(CRT)的用于将信息显示给计算机用户的显示器712连接。包括字母数字和其他键的输入装置714，与总线702连接并用于将信息和命令选择传达给处理器704。另一类型的用户输入装置为诸如鼠标、轨迹球或光标方向键的光标控制716，其用于将方向信息和命令选择传达给处理器704以及用于在显示器712上控制光标移动。该输入设备通常具有在两轴，即第一轴(例如，x)和第二轴(例如，y)上的两个自由度，其允许所述设备在平面上定位。
本发明涉及用于实施本文所述的技术的计算机系统700的使用。根据本发明的一实施方式，通过计算机系统700响应于执行主存储器706中包含的一个或多个指令的一个或多个序列的处理器704执行这些技术。所述指令可从诸如存储装置710的其他机器可读媒介读入主存储器706。主存储器706中包含的指令程序的执行使处理器704执行本文所述的处理步骤。在替代的实施方式中，硬连线电路可用于取代或结合软件指令以实施本发明。因此，本发明实施方式不限于硬件电路和软件的具体组合。
本文采用的术语“机器可读介质”是指参与将指令提供给处理器704执行的任何介质。所述介质可采取多种形式，包括但不限于，非易失性介质、易失性介质以及传输介质。非易失性介质包括，例如，诸如存储装置710的光盘或磁盘。易失性介质包括诸如主存储器706的动态存储器。传输介质包括同轴电缆、铜线和光纤，其包括包含总线702的电线。传输介质还可采取声波或光波形式，诸如在无线电波和红外数据通信期间产生的波。
常见形式的机器可读介质包括，例如软盘、柔性盘、硬盘、磁带或任何其他磁性媒介、CD-ROM、任意其他光学媒介、穿孔卡片、纸带，具有孔图案的其他物理媒介、RAM、PROM和EPROM、FLASH-EPROM、任何其他存储芯片或卡盘、下文所述的载波、或计算机可读的任何其他介质。
各种形式的机器可读介质可用于将一个或多个指令的一个或多个序列传达给处理器704执行。例如，指令可初始存储在远程计算机的磁盘上。远程计算机可将该指令载入其动态存储器中并利用调制解调器经过电话线发送该指令。计算机系统700本地的调制解调器可接收电话线上的数据并利用红外发射器将该数据转换为红外信号。红外探测器可接收红外信号载入的数据并且适合的电路可将数据放置在总线702上。总线702将数据载入至主存储器706，处理器704从该主存储器706获取并执行该指令。在由处理器704执行之前或之后，由主存储器706接收的指令可任选地存储在存储装置710上。
计算机系统700还包括与总线702连接的通信接口718。通信接口718提供连接至网络链接720的双路数据通信，该网络链接720与本地网络722连接。例如，通信接口718可为集成服务数字网络(ISDN)卡或调制解调器从而向相应类型电话线提供数据通信连接。作为另一实施例，通讯接口718可为局域网(LAN)卡以向兼容的LAN提供数据通信连接。还可实施无线链接。在任意实施方式中，通信接口718发送并接收携带表示各种类型信息的数字数据流的电、电磁或光信号。
网络链接720通常通过一个或多个网络提供与其他数据设备之间的数据通信。例如，网络链接720可通过本地网络722提供与主机724的连接或与由互联网服务提供商(ISP)726经营的数据设备的连接。ISP726反过来通过现常称之为“互联网”728的环球信息包数据通信网络提供数据通信服务。本地网络722和互联网728都采用传输数字数据流的电、电磁或光信号。将数字数据载入和载出计算机系统700的通过多种网络的信号以及在网络链接720上和通过通信接口718的信号，为传输信息的示例性形式的载波。
计算机系统700可通过网络、网络链接720和通信接口718发送消息并接收可包括程序代码的数据。在互联网实施例中，服务器730可通过互联网728、ISP 726、本地网络722和通信接口718传输对于应用程序的请求代码。
当收到代码，和/或存储在存储装置710中，或存储在其他非易失性存储器中用于后续执行时，所接收的代码可通过处理器704执行。以该方式，计算机系统700可获得载波形式的程序代码。

Claims (19)

1.一种提供多媒体内容传输的方法，包括：
由服务提供商获得多媒体内容的列表，该多媒体内容的列表在数字录像机上可获得；
由所述服务提供商向远程装置上的远程应用程序提供所述多媒体内容的列表，所述远程应用程序用于访问所述服务提供商的网站；
由所述服务提供商从所述远程装置接收对所述多媒体内容的列表中的特定多媒体内容的选择；
由所述服务提供商指示个人计算机装置发送请求至所述数字录像机，使所述数字录像机传输所述特定多媒体内容至所述个人计算机装置。
2.根据权利要求1所述的方法，其中所述个人计算机装置执行多媒体应用程序，该媒体请求一个与数字录像机相关的访问密钥。
3.根据权利要求1所述的方法，其中所述数字录像机和所述个人计算机装置为局域网的成员，并且所述远程装置不是所述局域网的成员。
4.根据权利要求1所述的方法，其中所述特定多媒体内容由所述数字录像机录制。
5.根据权利要求1所述的方法，其中所述特定多媒体内容由所述数字录像机下载。
6.根据权利要求1所述的方法，其中在所述服务提供商指示所述个人计算机装置请求所述特定多媒体内容时，所述特定多媒体内容没有存储在所述数字录像机上，所述方法进一步包括：
监控所述数字录像机，以确定所述数字录像机是否已经通过录制或下载所述特定多媒体内容而获得所述特定多媒体内容；
在确定所述数字录像机已经获得所述多媒体内容后，所述个人计算机装置请求所述数字录像机传输所述特定多媒体内容至所述个人计算机装置。
7.根据权利要求1所述的方法，其中响应于所述数字录像机请求所述个人计算机装置传输所述特定多媒体内容至所述个人计算机装置，所述数字录像机将所述特定多媒体内容转换为适于在所述个人计算机装置上回放的格式。
8.根据权利要求1所述的方法，其中所述多媒体内容的列表为在多个装置上可获得的多媒体内容的列表，所述多个装置包括所述数字录像机，所述方法进一步包括：
在收到所述选择后，所述服务提供商确定所述特定多媒体内容是否在所述数字录像机上可获得；
响应于所述服务提供商确定所述特定多媒体内容在所述数字录像机上可获得，所述服务提供商指示所述个人计算机装置请求所述数字录像机传输所述特定多媒体内容。
9.根据权利要求1所述的方法，进一步包括，响应于确定所述特定多媒体内容没有记录在所述数字录像机，指示所述数字录像机录制或下载所述特定多媒体内容。
10.根据权利要求1所述的方法，进一步包括，所述服务提供商，在从所述数字录像机收到所述特定多媒体内容后，指示所述个人计算机装置传输所述特定多媒体内容至便携装置。
11.根据权利要求1所述的方法，其中所述服务提供商由服务提供商运行。
12.一种提供多媒体内容传输的方法，包括：
由服务提供商获得多媒体内容的列表，该多媒体内容的列表在数字录像机上可获得；
由所述服务提供商向远程装置上的远程应用程序提供所述多媒体内容的列表，所述远程应用程序用于访问所述服务提供商的网站；
由所述服务提供商从所述远程装置接收对所述多媒体内容的列表中的特定多媒体内容的选择；
由所述服务提供商指示所述数字录像机传输所述特定多媒体内容至个人计算机装置。
13.根据权利要求12所述的方法，其中所述数字录像机为录像机，所述服务提供商的服务器传输多媒体应用程序的请求代码，并且其中所述个人计算机装置为执行所述多媒体应用程序的计算装置。
14.根据权利要求12所述的方法，其中所述数字录像机和所述个人计算机装置为局域网的成员，并且所述远程装置不是所述局域网的成员。
15.根据权利要求12所述的方法，其中所述特定多媒体内容由所述数字录像机录制。
16.根据权利要求12所述的方法，其中所述特定多媒体内容由所述数字录像机下载。
17.根据权利要求12所述的方法，其中在所述服务提供商指示所述数字录像机传输所述特定多媒体内容时，所述特定多媒体内容没有存储在所述数字录像机上，所述方法进一步包括：
所述数字录像机通过录制或下载所述特定多媒体内容而获得所述特定多媒体内容；
在获得所述特定多媒体内容后，所述数字录像机传输所述特定多媒体内容至所述个人计算机装置。
18.根据权利要求12所述的方法，其中响应于所述服务提供商指示所述数字录像机传输所述特定多媒体内容，所述数字录像机将所述特定多媒体内容转换为适于在所述个人计算机装置上回放的格式。
19.一种提供多媒体内容传输的系统，包括：
数字录像机；
个人计算机装置；
服务提供商；
远程装置；以及
计算机网络，其连接到所述服务提供商、所述数字录像机、所述个人计算机装置和所述远程装置；
其中所述服务提供商配置为执行如权利要求1至18中任一项所述的方法。
