Abstract

Description

在电视接收机的屏幕上 显示文本或图形数据的方法和设备
本发明涉及在电视机屏幕上显示文本或图形数据,更进一步说,本发明涉及以各种语言显示盒式录像机(VCR)和/或电视机的编程或提示命令的方法和设备。
VCR一般配备有以当地语言格式预存在VCR永久性存储器中的编程命令,在编程操作期间,可将它们显示在TV屏幕上。例如,对于在美国售出的VCR来说,英语是预存在VCR永久性存储器中的本地语言。然而,如果对VCR编程的电视机收看者不懂英语,则这将是一件难以完成的任务。
为了便于收看者编程,现在以各种外国语言显示VCR命令。这些没有预存在VCR永久性存储器中的外国语言命令通过进入到收看者家中的电视信号而送给收看者。按照本发明,不必在每次需要不同语言命令集时,把VCR送回制造商那里更换其永久性存储器。电视信号包括节目信号、发送TV图象的信号部分、垂直消隐间隔(VBI),存储各种数据类型或消息的信号部分。使用VBI把外语VCR命令送到VCR中,然后存储在VCR的临时存储器中。这样收看者可从显示在屏幕上的选项中选择外国语言,这样就可以按他/她的母语来编程VCR。
根据本发明,在VBI中,或通过其它传输链路将外国语言VCR和/或电视机命令送到收看者家中。然后将外国语言命令存储在临时存储器中,以备稍后使用。每组外国语言命令还包括用于产生收看者可利用的选项菜单的唯一语言标识符。例如,在VBI中可获得西班牙语、法语和汉语等外国语言命令,收看者菜单将在电视机屏幕上显示这些语言以及英语,收看者可从中进行选择。
在操作期间,收看者使用TV遥控器从电视机屏幕上显示的菜单中选择其使用的语言。可用的语言标识符与用户输入的语言标识符相比较,将对应于用户输入的语言标识符的外国语言命令存储在临时存储器中,稍后在电视机屏幕上显示。如果没有存储外国语言命令集,则在电视机屏幕上显示预存在永久性存储器中的本地语言。

以下结合附图描述了实现本发明的最佳方式的具体实施例的特点。
图1是按照本发明编程的由微处理器控制的电视接收机和/或VCR的示意性方框图;
图2表示在VBI中发送的数据;
图3表示描述本发明操作的等价数据;和
图4为收看者可选择命令语言的菜单的电视机屏幕显示。
本发明涉及传送命令集的外国语言译本,也称等价数据,它们将代替命令集的本地语言版本显示在电视接收机的屏幕上。命令集可代表指导收看者编程VCR或进行VCR或电视机的其它诸如初始建立或声音/图像调整等相关任务的屏幕提示。发送的等价数据包括本地语言的多种外国语言译本或图形数据表示,以及多个语言标识符,每一个语言标识符对一种外国语言译本或图形数据表示都是唯一的。以下结合有线电视业务描述本发明,也可将其用于卫星或广播电视业务。
在电视传输系统前端设备中的主节目源或等价数据源与垂直消隐期间(VBI)编码器相耦合,以把等价数据插入到电视信号的VBI中。替代的是,可在电视信号的副载波上发送等价数据,也可通过电话连接或其它可携带数据的已知装置来发送它们。最好是在源发送电视信号时,不断重复所述等价数据。
在图1中,电视信号通过电缆用户下线17送到收看者家中。包含发送的等价数据的电视信号通过调谐器和解调器19送到VBI解码器30。解码器30从电视信号中分离出在VBI中发送的等价数据,然后将其馈送到微处理器22。微处理器22包括RAM18形式的临时存储器。等价数据存储在RAM18中。电视信号的节目信号部分送到电视屏幕21。
遥控器23通过红外传输链路耦合到微处理器22。微处理器22访问其中存储了命令集的本地语言版本的系统存储器24。系统存储器24通常是ROM或其它不变数据存储装置。通常在制造过程中在厂家就将命令集的本地语言版本装入系统存储器24。微处理器22确定显示什么数据,是存储在系统存储器24中的本地语言还是存储在RAM18中的等价数据。视频处理器26中的微处理器22以已知方式组合要显示的数据,然后将它们发送给电视屏幕21显示。
图2描述了VBI中携带的等价数据32。标题字段34用于表明等价数据的开始并通过时钟和成帧代码信息控制解码器30的操作。在标题字段34之后是用编码的文本数据36a、36b、…36n表示的命令集的外国语言译本或图形数据表示,它们每个之前都分别有一个唯一的语言标识符字段38a、38b…38n。正如以下详细描述的,各个命令最好都有一个确定这样的命令将要在屏幕上显示的位置的地址。于是同一地址就被用于每种语言的一给定命令。语言标识符代表外国语言选项,例如,法语、西班牙语和汉语等等。
操作期间,收看者按下遥控器23上的建立键,启动建立方式,然后键入他或她的外国语言喜好。具体地说,收看者从图4示出的屏幕菜单中选择外国语言。标记有光标50的缺省选择是本地语言,例如,英语。为了选择不同的语言,收看者通过操作遥控器23上的箭头键来移动光标50,然后按下遥控器23上的回车键。微处理器22检索相应的语言标识符以和VBI中发送语言标识符相比较。当微处理器检测到它们相互匹配时,就从VBI中“抓取”相应的语言文本数据,下载至RAM18。例如,收看者希望选择西班牙语等价数据集,他或她可以移动光标50并把选择输入到遥控器23中。在这种情况下,微处理器以选择的语言显示命令。如果在RAM18中没有存储等价数据集,即,如果收看者没有选择外国语言,则微处理器22显示存储在系统存储器24的命令的本地语言版本。
尽管最好是在RAM18中仅存储一种外国语言的命令集,以使数据存储量极小化,但可以将全部,至少是一种以上的外国语言命令集下载至RAM18中,并且在下载之后,收看者可以选择所希望的外国语言以供显示。
在图3中示出了每种语言标识符的等价数据。例如,如果本地语言命令包括“time,channel,hour,day”,则西班牙语命令集44包括“tiempo,canal,hora,dia”,并且法语命令集46包括“temps,chaine,heure,jour”。每一命令集的各个命令还具有一个指示把它们放在屏幕上哪个位置以产生所希望的消息的地址。例如,命令集44具有地址44a和命令44b,“tiempo”;命令集46具有地址46a和命令46b,“temps”。对于一给定命令使用相同的地址,而不管是何种语言,例如“001”用于tiempo和temps,因为地址标识出命令在屏幕上的显示位置。相同的地址也可以用于存储在系统存储器24中的本地语言命令集,例如“001”用于“temperature”。换句话说,系统存储器24中的每个本地语言命令的地址与RAM18中的相应的外国语言命令的地址相同。
替代地,也可以使用不同的地址结构用于本地语言命令集,这样每个电视制造商就能够选择其自己的地址结构。在这种情况下,当收看者键入一个有关他/她的电视型号和品牌的标识代码之后,在VBI中将一表下载到RAM18中,把本国语言的地址与外国语言的地址联系起来。
对微处理器22编程,使其与收看者选择的语言无关地进行无缝操作。在微处理器22中存储状态位。如果将外国语言命令集下载至于RAM18中,即,将显示下载的外国语言,则所述状态位为一个值,例如二进制的“1”;如果没有选择外国语言命令集,即,将显示本地语言,则所述状态位为另一个值,例如二进制的“0”。当微处理器22在操作过程中调用一命令时,就发送一地址,指出命令在屏幕上的显示位置。微处理器22检验状态位确定其值。如果状态位为二进制“1”,将地址送到RAM18中,检索外国语言命令,在所述地址指定的屏幕位置上显示它。(如果在RAM18中存储一表,则通过参考该表将所发送的地址转换成指出屏幕上将显示外国语言命令的位置的地址。)如果状态位是二进值“0”,则将地址送到系统存储器24,检索本地语言命令,在所述地址指定的屏幕位置上显示它。
由于并不是所有的电视接收机都在其系统存储器24存储了本地语言,所以包括本地语言的所有等价数据可以被发送并被存储在微处理器RAM18中。在这种情况下,没有缺省语言选择,收看者必须从图4的菜单中选择。
上述本发明的实施例仅是较佳的,用于描述创造性概念。本发明的范围不限于这些实施例。本领域技术人员在不背离本发明的精神和范围的情况下可做出许多修改。

Claims (14)

1.一种用于在电视接收机的屏幕上显示文本或图形数据的设备,包括:
电视接收机方的内存装置,其中存储了表示本地语言命令的数据;
与内存装置电连接的微处理器;
将微处理器配置成在屏幕上显示存储在内存装置中的本地语言命令的第一装置;
从电视信号的垂直消隐间隔VBI中接收对应于本地语言命令的包括一种或多种外国语言命令的等价文本或图形数据的装置;
存储等价数据的外存装置;和
将微处理器配置成用等价数据替代本地语言命令,以代替本地语言命令显示等价数据的第二装置,
其特征在于,在微处理器中存储一状态位,表示要显示本地语言命令还是等价数据,当调用对一命令的显示时,第二配置装置发出命令地址和内存访问命令,读状态位,如果状态位表示要显示本地语言命令,则使用所发出的地址访问内存装置,并且如果状态位表示要显示等价数据,则使用所发出的地址访问外存装置。
2.根据权利要求1的用于在电视接收机的屏幕上显示文本或图形数据的设备,其特征在于接收装置包括从发送给电视接收机的电视信号的垂直消隐间隔VBI中提取等价数据的解码器。
3.根据权利要求2的用于在电视接收机的屏幕上显示文本或图形数据的设备,其特征在于所接收的等价数据包括对应于外国语言命令的唯一的语言标识符。
4.根据权利要求3的用于在电视接收机的屏幕上显示文本或图形数据的设备,其特征还在于附加地包括把收看者选择的语言标识符耦联到微处理器上的输入装置,所述第二配置装置比较在发送的等价数据中的语言标识符和收看者的选择,并当匹配时在外存装置中存储相应的所发送的外国语言命令。
5.根据权利要求4的用于在电视接收机的屏幕上显示文本或图形数据的设备,其特征在于本地语言命令具有内存装置中的地址,指明命令在屏幕上显示的位置,并且相应的外国语言命令具有外存装置中的相同地址。
6.根据权利要求5的用于在电视接收机的屏幕上显示文本或图形数据的设备,其特征在于外存装置是随机存取存储器RAM。
7.根据权利要求6的用于在电视接收机的屏幕上显示文本或图形数据的设备,其特征在于内存装置是只读存储器ROM。
8.一种用于在电视接收机的屏幕上显示文本或图形数据的方法,其特征在于包括步骤:
在电视信号的垂直消隐间隔VBI中向电视接收机发送等价数据,该等价数据包括本地语言命令的多个一种或多种外国语言的译本或图形表示;
建立包括外国语言列表的语言菜单;
在屏幕上显示语言菜单;
从电视接收机方的语言菜单中选择一种被发送的外国语言;和
在屏幕上显示相应于所选外国语言的命令的外国语言译本。
9.根据权利要求8的用于在电视接收机的屏幕上显示文本或图形数据的方法,其特征在于附加地还包括步骤:
把多个语言标识符附加到所发送的等价数据上,多个语言标识中的每一个都唯一地对应于一个外国语言译本或图形数据表示;
输入对语言标识符的选择;
将输入的选择和附加到等价数据上的语言标识符相比较;和
在比较步骤比较的结果是匹配时,存储等价数据。
10.根据权利要求9的用于在电视接收机的屏幕上显示文本或图形数据的方法,其特征在于附加地还包括步骤:把电视信号从前端设备发送到每一电视接收机,发送等价数据的步骤包括把等价数据插入前端设备的电视信号中的步骤。
11.根据权利要求10的用于在电视接收机的屏幕上显示文本或图形数据的方法,其特征在于插入步骤将等价数据插入到电视信号的垂直消隐间隔VBI中。
12.根据权利要求11的用于在电视接收机的屏幕上显示文本或图形数据的方法,其特征在于发送等价数据的步骤还发送本地语言命令和本地语言标识符。
13.根据权利要求8的用于在电视接收机的屏幕上显示文本或图形数据的方法,其特征在于附加地还包括为本地语言命令分配指明其在屏幕上显示的位置的地址,为替代的等价数据分配一个地址,它与本地语言命令地址相关联,将微处理器配置或根据命令的地址来显示命令,并存储表示要显示本地语言命令还是外国语言命令译本的状态位。
14.根据权利要求13的用于在电视接收机的屏幕上显示文本或图形数据的方法,其特征在于附加地包括步骤:将微处理器配置成,当有命令调用时,发出一个指出屏幕位置的地址,相应于状态位和所发送的地址检索命令,显示所检索到的命令。
