Abstract

本发明涉及一种数据接收系统,它包括通过无线电视连接器(即顶端盒Settop Box)进行数据通讯的设备和方法。特别涉及采用顶端盒接收器接收从卫星传输来的分组信号及通过蜂窝式数字分组数据(CDPD)网络向无线网络传输数据的附属装置。
一般来说,顶端盒是用于接收经过卫星传输设备和电缆连接器之类宽频带设备传输的电视信号的。由于电视信号的频带较宽,象DirecTVTM之类的顶端盒具有以很高的传输率接收数据的能力。但是,由于所接的顶端盒仅被用于同电视接收有关的单一应用中,所以在其他应用中,这种能力大部分没有被开发。在这些应用中,采用电视所特有的数据压缩技术控制电视信号的传输,因此数据传输本身通常不认为是顶端盒的一个应用领域。
用于环球网(WorldNetTM)无线网络的终端设备接收来自DirecTVTM顶端盒数据终端的ATM(异步传输模式)分组数据。这些数据通过定向敏感的路由器(即分组的方向在路由器内被控制在从一个输入口到一个输出口,这一控制与标题地址无关)的第一输入口被导入一个信息接收器,并且接着被无线的或有线的局域网(LAN)传输到用户住宅数据设备中。用户住宅设备对网络的答复是通过无线或有线的局域网传输到定向敏感的路由器上的,然后由路由器到用于发送的CDPD无线电调制解调器,再经CDPD蜂窝设备到一个和无线网络连接的远程无线终端。
本发明唯一的附图是通过一个DirecTVTM顶端盒接收数据的数据处理/收发信机的原理方框图,经过与其相连的无线局域网以CDPD传输向外发送数据。
图中所示的环球网无线网络访问系统包括一个盘形天线101,用于接收宽频带数据和电视信号,例如从卫星传输器或微波传输器来的信号。盘形天线101由同轴电缆(RG-6)102连接到DirecTVTM顶端盒103上,该顶端盒主要是被设计用于接收压缩的电视信号,并对它们进行解压缩,然后通过同轴电缆(RG-6)105送到电视机106上(电视机和顶端盒是很容易得到的家用电器,在此不作描述)。顶端盒103具有用于处理电视信号的较宽的频带容量,并且在许多情况下该器件还具有一个非电视数据输出口。顶端盒主要是一个接收器件,通常不用来传输信号。它主要从卫星盘形天线101上接收信号。接收的信号通常是压缩的电视信号,接着要进行解压缩以便看到它们。但是在进行任何解压缩处理以前,需要对数据信号进行抽样。此处的顶端盒还包括一个数据口107,它通过多芯电缆109连接到环球网数据口111的一个输入口110上。
环球网数据口111包括一个DirecTVTM顶端盒的接口121,顶端盒的接口经过输入口110与多芯电缆109相连接。该接口可以按照休斯公司(Hughes Corp)根据要求提供的操作说明进行设计。
接口121的输出连接到定向敏感的数据处理/路由器125上。路由器125读出分组标题地址信息并用这个信息去决定分组的最终地址。路由器接收口标记决定了分组在正确的路由器输出口输出。在通过路由器后,分组的最终地址由分组标题决定,它指出离开路由器后分组要去的目标。
由于带有控制分组从路由器的一个特定的输入口到一个特定的输出口的控制算法,所以路由器125是定向敏感的。当然,最终的分组目标是由分组标题地址控制的。
路由器从接口121接收到的分组被引导到宽频带分组无线电局域网PC-MCIA 135。从局域网PC-MCIA 135返回的分组信号被路由器125导向到CDPD调制解调器141。虽然这些操作不同于通常的路由器,在通常情况中分组的方向性是唯一地依据标题地址的,但它的设计对于本领域的普通技术人员是明显和容易的。
路由器125还连接有一个以太网处理器工作站126,该工作站同一个有线电视调制解调器127连接,所以可以经过同轴电缆(RG-6)129接收电视信号或数据信息。在适当的条件下,以太网处理器工作站可以是一个允许数据传输进入局域网的局域网工作站。这样的处理器可以购买摩托罗拉在市场上以MC68360标识的产品。如图所示,输出电缆123可以与一台微机有线连接。路由器125也可以直接将以太网工作站匹配到无线电调制解调器141上,用于产生CDPD传输。
数据口111的路由器125经过PC-MCIA(个人计算机存储卡工业联合会)的连接器器件131连接到宽频带分组无线电局域网的PC-MCIA 135上。PC-MCIA是一种在市场上可以买到的插卡,它包括一个无线电收发机和一个用于RF传输和接收的1/4波长的垂直天线136。因此,分组可以用无线电送出并作为一种RF无线电信号被接收。路由器125可在某一个输入上处理所接收的分组,并且由于路由器的由输入控制的定向敏感性,能将它们转发到与输入口相应的输出口。从局域网来的无线分组,经过天线136和分组无线电单元135被接收后,将如下面所讨论的那样被送到一个PC-MCIA的无线电调制解调器141上。该分组无线电单元135通过用于进行分组无线电传输和接收的天线136同无线局域网通讯。单元135还包括一个电缆连接器137用于接通多个有线局域网。
数据口111还通过路由器125和无线电调制解调器141相连,该调制解调器141是一个PC-MCIA插卡,包括一个CDPD无线电调制解调器,用于经过一个1/4波长的垂直天线与一个CDPD(蜂窝式数字分组数据)无线分组网络通讯。CDPD是一种市场上可以得到的服务,同时也是本领域的普通技术人员众所周知的技术。它的主要价值在于作为一种漫游因特网的支持通道(back-channel),此时下行链路是通过DirecTVTM服务实现的。这个单元还能为局域网提供与网外的其他数据系统通讯的功能,这是通过路由器125和CDPD调制解调器141到一个CDPD无线网络实现的。它接收从路由器125直接传输来的数据分组,通过引导部分147,用无线电传输方式(即蜂窝式传输)经过输出天线142将分组传输到一个蜂窝式CDPD无线系统。
路由器125接有一个状态监视屏151,可以用于监视其操作状态。接口和路由器的电源是由电源供给器155提供的。它可以从电源插口过来通过交直流转换后供电,或在某种情况下以电池组的方式供电。
在这个数据处理系统中,可选地还可以包括一块印刷电路板(PWB)161,用于控制用户和电视及其顶端盒之间的通讯。例如,可以采用一个无线鼠标器149,通过红外信号与印刷电路板通讯。这样就可以用于在电视屏幕上进行光标控制。这种印刷电路板技术上同用于韦伯(Web)电视服务的浏览器很相似,是本领域的普通技术人员众所周知的技术。这样的操作印刷电路板包括一块输入输出程序计数器插卡(IOPC),一个存储器163和一个连接在电视106和DirecTV顶端盒之间的NTSC(即国家电视标准委员会)制式的接口164。这样各种数据/音频信号就能在顶端盒107和电视106和/或立体声设备之间传输。
附图中的方框175画出了数据口和顶端盒一种可能的实际尺寸关系。

Claims (7)

1、一种用于经过顶端盒的数据终端以无线通信形式接收从远程数据网络来的数据,并将数据传送到一个CDPD网络的用户住宅终端系统,该系统包括:
一个同所述顶端盒的数据终端相连的数据接收接口器件;
一个同所述接口器件连接的数据处理器/路由器,用于定向地处理输入数据分组以便传送到该数据处理器/路由器的一个由路由器指定的输出口;
一个无线宽频带双工分组局域网,包括一个天线,用于在数据处理器/路由器与用户住宅局域网/数据处理器之间进行双向无线电连接;以及
一个连接到所述数据处理器/路由器上的CDPD无线电调制解调器,用于接收从路由器来的分组和传送由用户住宅局域网/数据处理器产生的无线CDPD分组。
2、一个如权利要求1所述的用于接收数据的用户住宅终端系统,包括
一个与有线调制解调器和所述数据处理器/路由器相连的以太网工作站/接口单元,用于将数据信号从所述调制解调器传送到所述数据处理器/路由器和从所述路由器到所述调制解调器,其中所述的以太网工作站/接口单元是一个活动(active)局域网工作站。
3、一个如权利要求1所述的用于接收数据的用户住宅终端系统,包括
一块与所述数据处理器/路由器连接的状态指示器面板。
4、一个如权利要求1所述的用于接收数据的用户住宅终端系统,包括
一块与所述的顶端盒和一台电视机连接并具有一个IR接口的控制卡,用于接收从用户来的IR控制信号。
5、一种经过其顶端盒的数据终端接收和传送从无线网络来的数据并通过一个无线传送终端将数据传送到一个CDPD网络和经过一个路由器将数据传送到一个无线局域网的方法,该方法包括下列步骤:
经过一个顶端盒接收一个分组形式的宽频带数据信号;
将所述接收的宽频带数据分组信号送到定向敏感的路由器,并按照路由器的定向控制将所述数据分组送到一个局域网;
在所述路由器上接收局域网来的分组,按照路由器的定向性控制将它们匹配到一个CDPD调制解调器,以便将它们传送到一个CDPD无线网络。
6、一种如权利要求5所述的用于接收和传送数据的方法,包括下列步骤:
将所述路由器接收的分组信号送到一台无线电设备,以便无线传送到一个局域网中;以及
通过无线电通信从局域网中接收分组,以便送到路由器上。
7、一种如权利要求6所述的用于接收和传送数据的方法,包括下列步骤:
通过DirecTVTM顶端盒接收数据并且直接将所述数据送到一个CDPD调制解调器,以便将其传送到一个CDPD蜂窝式网络。
