按照本发明的这一最佳的实施例的电视系统包括电子节目引导(EPG)和磁带索引引导。其中EPG是提供一个或几个节目表的屏幕的那一类EPG。这些表可以包括当前正在电视广播的节目和将要广播的节目。这些节目表在不同的引导屏幕上以类别和时间分类。EPG包括用于显示当前电视广播节目的画中画(PIP)窗口。观众可以在一个引导中通过使光标经过当前电视广播节目表来改变在PIP窗口中显示的节目。

最好是，如果装入在VCR中的磁带不用控制信息和目录信息编码，则显示图4的屏幕。在表区域58内显示供操作装置22所需的菜单，并在区域56内显示提示信息。观众输入一个数字用以识别要完成的功能。观众的目的是要识别录像有要播放的节目的视频磁带。如果观众试图利用视频磁带号找到节目，则他输入号“1”，并通过电视机24显示图5所示的屏幕。如果观众试图通过标题找到节目，则他输入号“2”，并通过电视机24显示图6所示的屏幕。当装入在VCR中的合适的磁带被读取后，则显示图7所示的屏幕。如果利用标题检索节目(图6)，则选择的节目由光标60加亮直到进入图7的屏幕。如果利用磁带号检索节目，则存储在磁带开头的节目在表区域58中利用光标60被加亮。在图7的屏幕中，当观众按下“播放”按钮32时，TIS装置22启动节目检索。如上所述，TIS装置22控制VCR16，以便利用光标60在磁带上定位所选的节目，播放磁带并在PIP窗口50内显示所选的节目。在另一个实施例中，当装入合适的磁带时，TIS装置22自动地启动所选节目的节目检索。
而在引导方式中，“索引”按钮30控制开关20。这样，观众可以从例如图3所示的EPG屏幕转换到例如图4所示的磁带索引屏幕，并且反之亦然，如图11A和11B所示。因为只有开关20被“索引”按钮30控制，按照本实施例，当背景52在EPG和磁带索引引导之间转换时，在PIP窗口50中正在显示的节目不变。最好在电视方式下“索引”30是不能操作的。
“播放”按钮32在电视方式下或引导方式下控制节目源开关14，从而在调谐器12和VCR16之间转换。这样，观众处于引导方式时可以在PIP窗口50中在由VCR16输出的节目和由调谐器12输出的节目之间转换。此外，如果磁带被装入在VCR16中但未被播放，当把节目源开关14从调谐器12转换到VCR16时，按下“播放”按钮32将使VCR开始播放磁带。最好是包括由调谐器调谐的节目表的加亮的区域62被包括在磁带索引引导屏幕的区域52中。这使得观众在处于磁带索引方式时能够识别在PIP窗口50中显示的当前电视广播的节目。
最好是，如果观众从EPG进入磁带索引引导方式并且在VCR16中没有装入视频磁带，电视机24则显示图4的屏幕，同时在PIP窗口50中显示从调谐器输出的节目(例如ABC频道7)。观众从图4的屏幕导航到图7的屏幕，如上所述。由光标60加亮的在表区域58中的录像节目的说明在区域56中显示。这样，观众可以通过利用箭头键36和38移动光标60来浏览在区域56内的录像节目的说明，同时继续观看在PIP窗口50中的当前电视广播的节目。在观众识别并在VCR16内装入录像有所需节目的视频磁带之后，则显示图7的屏幕。如果观众预先知道磁带，可以在按下“索引”按钮30之前跳过图4到图6的屏幕把磁带装入VCR16中。
观众可以使用“引导/电视”按钮28从EPG或者磁带索引引导退出引导方式。当在引导方式时用户按下“引导/电视”按钮时，PIP芯片23被断开。这样，节目源开关14接通的节目源，即调谐器12或VCR16将直接和电视机相连，因而将全屏地显示从那个节目源输出的节目，如图12A和12B所示。
在所说明的所有方式中，由电视机24的扬声器重放在PIP窗口50显示的视频节目的伴音。
按照本发明的另一个不同的实施例，所述装置可以被设计成在电视方式下显示PIP窗口60，借以使观众能够同时观看由VCR16输出的录像节目和由调谐器12输出的当前电视广播的节目。如图8所示，VCR 16和调谐器12两者都和开关20’相连，开关20’在从TIS装置22、EPG装置18、VCR16、和调谐器12输入的视频信号之间转换。按照本实施例，在遥控器26上(图2)提供有PIP按钮62，开关20’被对开关14的状态敏感的微处理器(未示出)控制。在电视方式下，当观众按下PIP按钮63时，PIP芯片被接通，操纵者控制器节目源开关14和开关20’，从而转换到调谐器或VCR的输出，使得在背景52中显示当前正在全屏显示的最后的节目，并且在PIP窗口60中显示来自另一个部件的(VCR16或调谐器12)节目，如图13A和13B所示。如果当PIP按钮63被按下时，调谐器被选择并且没有节目从VCR输出，则微处理器最好不接通PIP电路23而根据VCR的状态显示一个提示，表明在VCR中没有装入磁带或VCR没有播放。最好是，当装置处于引导方式时PIP按钮63是不能操作的。
虽然这里已经说明了本发明的一些最佳实施例，但是显然本领域的技术人员可以作出各种改进和改型。因此，应该理解，本发明的范围只能由所附的权利要求来限制。

Claims (13)

1．一种电视系统，包括：
磁带索引引导(TIG)发生器；
电子节目引导(EPG)发生器；
用于在TIG发生器和EPG发生器之间转换的引导开关；
包括用于自动地定位磁带上的所选节目的装置的VCR；
调谐器；
用于在VCR和调谐器之间转换的节目源开关；
通过操作和引导开关以及节目源开关相连的画中画(PIP)发生器；PIP发生器具有有效与无效方式，其中在有效方式中，PIP发生器在电视屏幕上显示一个第一区域，用于显示从节目源开关输出的电视节目，和一个第二区域，用于显示从引导开关输出的引导信息；以及
微处理器，用于在有效方式与无效方式之间控制PIP发生器。
2．如权利要求1所述的电视系统，其中微处理器包括：
用于控制VCR和自动调谐装置的操作的装置；
用于控制引导开关的输出的装置；以及
用于控制节目源开关的输出的装置。
3．如权利要求2所述的电视系统，其中引导开关通过操作和调谐器以及VCR相连。
4．在包括磁带索引引导(TIG)和电子节目引导(EPG)的电视系统中，一种用于在引导方式和电视观看方式之间导航的方法，包括以下步骤：
在电视观看方式下在电视屏幕上显示选择的节目；
选择引导方式；
从电视观看方式转换到引导方式；
在屏幕的第一区域显示所选的节目，在屏幕的第二区域显示屏幕引导信息。
5．如权利要求4所述的方法，其中选择的节目是录像的节目，并且引导信息包括TIG。
6．如权利要求4所述的方法，其中选择的节目是当前电视广播的节目，并且引导信息包括EPG。
7．如权利要求4所述的方法，其中引导信息含有多个包括所选节目的表的节目表。
8．如权利要求7所述的方法，还包括加亮所选的节目表的步骤。
9．如权利要求7所述的方法，还包括以下步骤：
移动光标加亮在第二区域内显示的第二个选择的节目的表；
在第一区域内显示第二个选择的节目；
选择电视方式；
从引导方式转换到电视方式；以及
在电视屏幕上显示第二个选择的节目。
10．在包括磁带索引引导(TIG)和电子节目引导(EPG)的电视系统中，一种用于在引导之间导航的方法，包括以下步骤：
在一种引导方式下在电视屏幕的第一区域内显示包括EPG或TIG的第一引导，并在第二区域内显示一个节目；
选择另一个引导；
在第二区域内显示另一个引导而不改变在第一区域内显示的节目。
11．如权利要求10所述的方法，其中所述节目是当前电视广播的节目，其中另一个引导是TIG，并且其中TIG包括提示。
12．在包括磁带索引引导(TIG)和电子节目引导(EPG)的电视系统中，一种用于在引导之间导航的方法，包括以下步骤：
(a)从调谐器或盒式磁带录像机(VCR)中选择节目源；
(b)在电视屏幕的第一区域内显示从选择的节目源输出的节目，并在第二部分显示一个引导；
(c)选择另一个节目源；以及
(d)在第一区域内显示从另一个节目源输出的节目而不改变在第二区域中的引导。
13．如权利要求12所述的方法，在步骤(c)和步骤(d)之间还包括控制VCR播放在磁带上录制的节目的步骤，其中在步骤(c)中选择的节目源是调谐器，并且其中VCR不播放装入的磁带。
