本发明的详细介绍
在如下的介绍中,为了解释而不是限定,叙述一些具体的细节以便透彻地理解本发明。然而,对本领域的技术人员来说,很明显,撇开这些具体的细节不论,本发明可以实用于其它实施方式。在另外一些实例中,略去了一些公知的方法和装置的详细介绍,以避免由于不必要的细节妨碍介绍理解本发明。
图1中表示典型的皮夹卡10。皮夹卡10的尺寸和总体布局已是标准化的,类似的卡广泛地用于各种交易和其它目的。撇开信用卡不论,类似的卡用作借贷卡、ATM存取卡,司机执照、识别卡、图书卡等。这些卡通常携带在皮夹中,这里总称为“皮夹卡”。
卡10正像一般卡一样包含可用机器阅读的凸纹压印(emboss)文字12,用于使信用卡能在销售交易点印记。如在图2中所示,大多数信用卡现在包含用于携带可用机器阅读的信息的条14,例如为包含可以磁方式编码的可用计算机终端阅读的信息磁条材料,该计算机终端在很多销售点终端使用。在卡背面还包含签名条16,它们通常适合于接收由卡的用户用手书写的签名。该卡还包含一或多维的条形码以及触点式、无触点式智能卡或者卡-电子信息存储器组合体。
磁条14和凸纹压印文字12与签名条16一起识别在上的数据区。对于财务交易卡这一数据区通常按ISO标准控制,努力使卡标准化,从而可以由多个机构根据在销售点的标准化的终端发行各种卡。例如,磁条14像其磁条14的宽度一样,其相对于卡的顶部边缘的位置是标准化的,以便使得利用在销售点的一般磁读卡器易于读出可以磁方式编码的信息。同样,控制凸纹压印文字12的字型、尺寸和位置以便当进行销售点交易时保证根据典型的信用卡标记由卡中可用机器阅读标记的信息。只有签名条16的位置是可以改变的,不会影响用机器阅读该卡。
今天,很多卡还包含例如以20标注的识别标志例如标识之类,用于识别发行机构。递增的卡号码也包含该包含发行机构标志的全息图补片22。全息图补片22通常位于在包含凸纹压印文字12的数据区部分或其附近。在图1和图2所示了的本发明的实施例中,放大镜24位于在形成在卡10的基底11的窗口25中,这样就不会影响磁条14和凸纹压印文字12的相互关系。放大镜24是一长方形透镜,平行于磁条14安装在磁条14和凸纹压印文字12之间的空间中。这一空间通常尺寸足以适于容纳透镜24。由于其需要凸纹压印文字12与磁条14充分隔开,以保证卡的凸纹压印无论如何不会改变磁条14的功能度。
在本发明的该实施例中,透镜元件24包含一基本上刚性的透明塑料元件,其刚性与信用卡基底的刚性接近相同。如在图1和图2所示,信用卡基底11包含窗口25,该具有顶边缘30、底边缘31及侧边缘32、33。透镜元件24适于置入在窗口25中,透镜元件24具有与窗口边缘30-33共同的外边缘。于是该透镜可按本领域的技术人员公知的方式通过超声熔接或粘接固定到信用卡基底11上。在本发明的优选实施例中,透镜24的厚度与信用卡基底11的厚度相对应。以保证透镜在信用卡中的存在不会以任何方式影响包含在凸纹压印文字12或磁条14中可用机器阅读的信息。已经发现菲涅尔型外形透镜对于这种类型的应用是特别有用的。这样一种透镜是由同心的菲涅尔外形透镜36构成的。
在图3和4中表示本发明的另一实施例。透镜元件124基本上为方式断面,利用一包含如按标号60所示的同心结构的菲涅尔透镜,安装在基底11的互补窗口125中。本发明的这一特定结构当可能改变数据区的形状和凸纹压印文字12的方位时是有用的。随着终端编码器越来越广泛地得到认可,以及磁编码条14(图4)越来越普遍用作可用机器阅读的信息源时,凸纹压印文字的重要性越来越减小。这将使得能改变在卡上的凸纹压印文字12的方位,而不会影响在销售点用机器读卡。这将使得能定制凸纹压印透镜元件124,以改变需求和品味,而不会影响用机器读卡。
如图5中所示,典型的卡基底11是一种层叠的复合材料,包含按标号48所示的硅芯层材料,在其顶面上有一薄塑料叠层50以及在该底面上层叠一相似的薄塑料叠层52。这里术语“薄”是指塑料叠层50和52相对芯层材料48的厚度而言。如果需要,芯层材料48和塑料叠层50、52可以具有相当的厚度。叠层50和52通常按4种颜色格式印制,使得能为卡设置识别发行机构的有吸引力的标识和定制的颜色组合。叠层材料50和52还可以携带磁编码条14、签名条16和全息图补片22。如图5中所示,菲涅尔透镜元件124位于在卡的窗口125中,可以通过超声熔接、粘接剂或其它方式沿窗口的按标号60所示的侧边缘固定在其中。在使用叠层卡的情况下,叠层材料50和52可以盖住窗口的边缘62、64,透镜元件124可以包含用于保持透镜就位的周边凸缘或边框58。当然,透镜还可以具有矩形截面,利用超声熔接、粘接剂或其它方式固定到基底48上,使用或者不使用叠层50和52。
应理解,透镜按各种方式可以结合在卡中,包含成为卡基底中的一集成整体元件。集成整体式透镜可以用很多方法形成,例如通过模压或浇注透明材料到半刚性基底的窗口中,或者通过模压半刚性基底的透明区域。图6表示本发明的这样一种替换实施例,其中的透镜是与卡基底集成的。卡基底48包含一种基本上透明的材料。最好,该材料是非晶体塑料材料,例如聚氯乙烯(PVC)、聚碳酸酯、聚酯或其它类似材料。透镜24例如通过模压所需菲涅尔外形的透镜在卡基底的表面上,形成在卡基底中。凸纹压印文字(未表示)可以同时形成在基底中,或者可以形成在将菲涅尔外形透镜36模压卡基底的表面上之前或之后。叠层50和52可以任选方式施加到卡基底48的顶面和底面上。上述的模压、凸纹压印和层叠步骤执行的次序是常规设计选择的内容。在一优选实施例中,下面更详细地介绍在卡坯料已经层叠后热模压菲涅尔外形透镜36的情况。
正如前述各实施例那样,磁条、签名条和全息图补片等也可以按常规方式添加。例如,如在图8中所示,卡10的实施例包含沿卡基底11部分地水平延伸的透镜24。卡10还包含全息图补片22。如果需要,可以省去叠层50和52,可以将磁条、签名条和全息图补片直接施加在基底48上。
如在图9中所示另一个实施例包含模压在卡基底11一侧上的竖直取向的透镜24,全息图补片22配置在卡基底11的反侧附近。当然,这一实施例还可以通过将一单独的透镜24按照与图1中所示实施例类似的方式安装在卡基底11中制造。
在图10中表示再一个实施例。卡芯层48以及顶面叠层50和底面叠层52,包含基本上透明塑料材料,例如如上所述的非晶体塑料。卡芯层48可以包含如图所示的单层,或者可以包含多层(拼合芯层)。顶面叠层50和底面叠层52层叠在芯层48上,形成围绕芯层的顶层和底层。因此,该结构形成一半刚性和基本上不可折叠的基底。透镜24(未表示)基本上通过将所需的菲涅尔外形透镜模压在顶层50或底52构成。根据芯层48以及顶层50和底层52的厚度,可以将菲涅尔外形透镜模压到芯层48以及顶层50或底52中。
最好卡芯层48以及顶面叠层50和底面叠层52包含相同的基本上透明塑料材料。顶面叠层50和底面叠层52最好例如通过印加工在除去窗口区域74和76以外基本上其所有外表面(区域70和72)上是带颜色的。除了窗口区域80外,芯层48可保持透明、或可在其侧面(芯层48的一个侧面的区域78)上基本涂覆彩色。芯层48的边缘可以任选方式带颜色。当形成叠层结构时将窗口区域74、76和80的位置对齐。因此与菲涅尔外形透镜36一起,对齐的窗口区域74、76和80构成放大镜24。
应选择由透明材料形成的芯层48以及顶塑料材料层50或底塑料材料层52,以便与适当需要的菲涅尔外形透镜36一起显示折射特性,制造具有所需放大倍数的放大镜24。对本技术领域的技术人员来说,选择适宜的塑料材料以及设计适当菲涅尔外形透镜是常规设计选择的内容。
如前所述,除了磁条和可任选的签名条之外,卡10可以包含凸纹压印文字(未表示)。如果需要,也可以包含全息图补片、其它所需的图形特征例如符号、边印标记(logo)、绘画图像等。磁条、签名条和/或全息图补片可以在卡的任何一侧。即,可以将这些特征配置在卡中与模压菲涅尔外形透镜36的同一侧,或者在反侧,按需要组合。在本发明的实施例中各种条和补片的方位是常规设计选择的内容。
然而,在上述实施例中最好在已经形成菲涅尔外形透镜36之后不执行层叠步骤,或者至少在卡10的包含菲涅尔外形透镜36的整个表面范围内无层叠步骤。这是因为这些接连的层叠步骤可能填充或变平菲涅尔外形透镜36,因此使放大镜不能用。
可以将菲涅尔外形透镜36按照所需的取向例如水平、竖直等方向模压在顶塑料层50或底塑料层52中,以及可以为任何所需的形状,例如矩形、方形、三角形、圆形、椭圆形、椭球形、星形、钻石形等,与先前介绍的相似。
通过考虑例如制造能力、制造难易以及成本等因素、可以由这里所介绍的实施例中选择一特定的实施例。
在图11中表示再一个实施例。这里卡芯层48起“顶”层的作用,而底面塑料叠层50包含“底”层。芯层48和底面塑料叠层50还包含基本上透明塑料材料。底面塑料叠层50层叠芯层48上,形成顶层和底层。这两层一起形成半刚性基本上不可折叠的叠层结构。通过将菲涅尔外形透镜36模压在芯层48的顶面上,使透镜24(未表示)基本上形成在芯层48上。另外,可以将透镜外形模压在叠层50的底面上。
如先前的实施例,芯层48和底面塑料叠层50最好包含基本上透明塑料材料。底面塑料叠层50最好通过印加工在其一侧或两侧除了窗口区域74以外的基本所有范围(区域70)内是带颜色的。当两侧是颜色时,芯层48可以依然是透明的,因此,使在底面塑料叠层50的内表面(层叠芯层48的一侧)上印制的信息通过透明塑料材料可以阅读。按另一方式,芯层48也可以在与层叠底层50的一侧(在芯层48外侧的区域78)相反的、除了窗口区域80以外的基本所有表面范围内是带颜色的。当形成叠层结构时,区域74和80的位置对齐。与涅尔外形透镜36一起,位置对齐的区域74和80形成放大镜24。
在图12中表示前述实施例的一种变更方案。这里,信用卡芯层48起“底”层的作用,顶塑料叠层52包含该“顶”层。芯层48和顶塑料层叠52又包含基本上透明塑料材料。塑料层叠52层叠在芯层48上,形成顶层和底层。两层一起构成半刚性基本上不可折叠的叠层结构。通过将所需透镜外形透镜36模压在芯层48的顶面上,透镜24(未表示)基本上形成在顶层52上。另外,可以将透镜外形模压在芯层48的底面上。
芯层48和顶塑料叠层52最好包含相同的基本上透明塑料材料。顶塑料层叠52最好通过印加工在其一侧或两侧除了窗口区域76以外的基本所有范围(区域72)内是带颜色的。当两侧带颜色时,芯层48可以依然是透明的,因此,使在顶面塑料叠层52的内表面(层叠芯层48的一侧)上印制的信息通过透明塑料材料可以阅读。按另一方式,芯层48也可以在与层叠顶层52的一侧(在芯层48外侧的区域78)相反的、除了窗口区域80以外的基本所有表面范围内是带颜色的。当形成叠层结构时,区域76和80的位置对齐。与菲涅尔外形透镜36一起,位置对齐的区域76和80形成放大镜24。
在图13-16中表示了用于制造根据本发明的卡的一种方法。首先参照图13,提供一个卡坯料或芯层202。芯层材料是透明的,最好是聚氯乙烯(PVC),虽然也可以采用其它适合材料。中空内腔204利用镂铣机206或其它适合工具形成在芯层中。内腔204的尺寸对应于透镜24(图1、2、6、8、9)或透镜124(图3、4)的预期尺寸。正如已解释的,内腔204应当位于在卡中的非数据区。正如下文介绍的,内腔204的深度决定于用于制造透镜的具体材料,但是一般在0.008英寸左右。重要的是,将任何残留的工具伤痕降到最小,伤痕会使内腔204的底面留有结霜的外观,因此妨碍通过透镜观查的图像的清晰度和鲜锐度。如果需要,可以将内腔204的底面抛光以消除残留的工具伤痕。
下面参照图14,内腔204用液体树脂局部填充。结合这里介绍的方法使用的树脂的优选种类包含可通过辐射固化的树脂,通过暴露于适合的有源辐射例如紫外光实现树脂的固化。一种特别适合于这种使用的树脂是具有牌号7294和7025的Decochem的适当产品。已经发现这种特别适合的材料能产生透镜模具外形的重复性、对于PVC卡芯层的良好的粘着力以及对于模具表面的不良粘着力。也可以采用其它适合的可通过辐射固化的树脂物系或热固性树脂系统。
参照图15,一旦内腔204已用足够数量的液体树脂填充,使模具210与树脂的表面相接触。按照菲涅尔透镜外形的负像对模具210机加工。使模具210与液体树脂的表面相接触,小心操作以防止夹带空气和树脂从内腔中挤出。一旦内腔204适当地就位,使树脂208适当暴露于辐射源,或者加热足够的时间,以便固化树脂。利用优选的树脂系统,约在1-3秒内实现固化。
参照图16,树脂固化以后,取下模具210,在固化的树脂表面上留下菲涅尔外形,因此形成透镜212。透镜外形分布在芯层202的上表面之下,因此有助于保护透镜,避免在常规操作的过程中受到损害。
在图17-19中表示了用于制造根据本发明的卡的另一种方法。首先参照图17,该图以断面图表示在形成放大镜之前的卡坯料302的结构。卡坯料302包含几层的叠层结构。芯层材料304是透明热塑性材料。适合的材料包含PVC、利用环己烷二甲醇改性的聚对苯二甲酸乙二酯(PETG),虽然可以采用其它透明塑料材料。
芯层材料304的顶面和底面如前所述利用丝网印制和/或影印法印制,以便形成卡上图形。根据使用的方法和使用的油墨的性质,印层306的厚度范围从小于1密尔到大于5密尔。施加在芯层304上除了窗口区域308以外的整个卡上的印层通常是不透明或者至少是半透明的。这个区域必须保持透明,以便随后形成透镜。
在已经施加印层306之后,芯层304的顶面和底面层叠透亮的薄膜310。薄膜310最好是PVC或其它适合的透亮的塑料薄膜。薄膜310适当地结合在芯层304上。这种结合可能需要透明的粘接剂,以便粘接在印层306上。
薄膜310通常厚度约为1到3密尔。如果印层306已经较厚,则可能希望在印制时在窗口区域308施加透亮的油墨或透亮的粘接剂。否则,窗口区域308可以有一种可能沿窗口区域“悬挂幕布(drape)”的趋势,在薄膜310和芯层材料304之间在窗口区域中形成空隙。这种空隙将降低形成在窗口区域的放大镜的光学特性。
卡坯料302可以便利地制造成很大的片。芯层材料304的印层和薄膜310叠层最好按大片制造。然后可以由大片将卡坯料302用冲模切开,以便进一步加工。
下面参照图18,利用模具320和热模压法使放大镜形成在卡坯料302上。在压印在卡坯料302上之前,将模具320加热到足以使薄膜310和芯层304塑料材料软化的温度,但无需熔化。模具320可以便利的盒式加热器便利地加热,虽然超声波加热是有吸引力的另一种方法,这是由于其循环次数更快。一旦模具已经上升到达该温度,压印到卡坯料302,其深度足以完全形成菲涅尔透镜外形。可以形成一高效的放大镜,外形深度约10密尔。超声波加热的情况下,可以同时进行加热和压印。
重要的是准确地维持模具,使之平行于卡的表面,使得透镜外形可以均匀地形成在窗口区域308。这种均匀性对于维持放大镜具有所需的光学特性和防止完工的卡卷曲是必要的。透镜外形最好形成在卡坯料302的底面上,然而,形成在顶面上可以形成同样有效的透镜。
模具320最好具有气孔322,使得空气不会滞留在模具和卡的表面之间。任何这样的空气会影响透镜外形准确的形成,降低透镜的光学特性。如果需要,根据透镜外形特定的设计,需要气孔322和将其定位。
一旦模具320已经压印到卡坯料302中所需的深度,冷却模具,使得塑料在取下模具之前固化。模具320的冷却对于放大镜和透明度是重要的。冷却模具防止取下模具时塑料流动,因此保证菲涅尔透镜外形具有情晰的边缘。这对于得到高质量的透镜是重要的。此外,已经发现在冷却之前取下模具势必使塑料结雾。可以采用适当的装置冷却模具。实际上,已经发现利用压缩空气直接吹到模具上可以有效地实现冷却。另外模具可以制造带有用于液体或气体冷却的内部通道。无论利用什么冷却模具的装置,都希望使模具的热质量最小,使得模具的温度可以迅速地循环。
利用热压印技术形成放大镜,重要的是尽可能多地限制从模具散热。因此,最好淬冷一其上安放卡坯料302的台极330。这会有助于使完工的卡的变形降到最小。
一旦菲涅尔透镜外形已经形成,可以利用简单的光电元件测试装置便利地测试透镜的光学质量。设想准确形成的透镜的焦距,将光源相对光电元件按照隔开的关系定位。从光源发出的光由热模压透镜聚焦在光电元件上。光电元件的输出与透镜的聚焦特性成比例并提供透镜质量的全部定量测量结果。还可以菲涅尔透镜实施适当的更复杂的自动或人工图像质量测试。
这里介绍的本发明的各种实施例利用菲涅尔透镜作为放大镜。虽然目前这是易于制造的选优类型的透镜,但本发明并不局限于此。适合的的放大镜还可以包含常规的凸透镜以及其它光学器件例如全息图。使用各种类型的光学器件作为放大镜,可以利用先前介绍的各种装置安装在卡内部或整体集成在卡。放大装置可以形成在内部的滤光片的芯层材料中和/或在施加在芯层材料上的叠层中。
应承认上述的本发明可以在不脱离公开的构思或基本特征的前提下,按其它具体形式体现。因此,应认识本发明不局限于前述的细节,而是由所提出的权利要求来限定。
Claims (18)
1.一种制造具有集成放大镜的卡的方法,包含的步骤有:
制造一具有透明窗口区域的卡坯料;
将一透镜成形模具加热到第一温度;
将透镜成形模具压印到卡坯料的窗口区域;
将透镜成形模具冷却到第二温度;以及
从卡坯料上取下透镜成形模具。
2.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中制造卡坯料的步骤包含将多个透明塑料层叠层。
3.根据权利要求2所述的方法,其中多个透明塑料层中的至少一层在窗口区域以外的其它区域印有不透明的标记。
4.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中的加热和压印步骤基本上同时执行。
5.一种制造具有集成放大镜的卡的方法,包含的步骤有:
由透明塑料片状材料制造卡坯料;
对卡坯料的顶面和底面的至少其中之一印加工,在每个印加工表面留有一透明窗口区域;
在卡坯料的每个印加工表面上施加一透明薄膜;
将一透镜成形模具加热到第一温度;
将透镜成形模具压印到窗口区域的透明薄膜中;
将透镜成形模具冷却到第二温度;以及
从透明薄膜中取下透镜成形模具。
6.根据权利要求5所述的方法,其中的第一温度充分高足以软化透明薄膜,但低于透明薄膜的熔化温度。
7.根据权利要求5所述的方法,其中的第二温度低于透明薄膜的软化温度。
8.根据权利要求5所述的方法,其中的透明片状材料是热塑性的。
9.根据权利要求5所述的方法,其中的透明片状材料是由PVC、PETG和聚碳酸酯构成的组合中选择的。
10.根据权利要求5所述的方法,其中利用丝网印制法执行印制加工的步骤。
11.根据权利要求5所述的方法,其中利用影印法执行印制加工的步骤。
