Abstract

发明领域
本发明涉及一种罐,例如一种用于包装充气饮料的金属罐。更具体地说,本发明涉及一种罐底强度增加的罐,以及制造这种罐的装置和方法。
发明背景
例如充气饮料等饮料一般都包装在由金属例如铝制成的罐中。两件式罐体一般是通过将罐底和罐身进行接合而形成的。通常来说,通过模压形成一个图1所示的罐底10来完成卷合。罐底10一般具有一个圆埋头压边筋(countersink bead)16、一个基本上水平的中心板18、一个终止于周缘卷曲边12的卷合板13和一个在该压边筋和卷合板之间延伸的截头圆锥形的侧壁部分14。通常来说,该侧壁14设置成与罐身20中心线7的平行线成约14°的角A。(除非另有说明,要不然本文中所提到的所有角度的数值都应理解成是正值,正角是指在从罐身的底部朝罐底向上延伸时远离罐身中心线的角。负角是指在从罐身的底部朝罐底向上延伸时朝向该中心线延伸的角。)
将罐身20的凸缘11设置在罐底10上卷合板13的下方,从而来进行卷合。然后将一个卷边压头2(chuck)嵌入该罐底10,如图1所示。通常来说,多个卷边压头2都各自具有截头圆锥形的(frustoconical)上下壁部分4和6。下壁部分6的角度B一般设置成比罐底侧壁14的角度A小几度,从而如果罐底侧壁的角度A为约14°时,压头下壁的角度B会是约11°。上壁部分4一般具有约0.130英寸的长度L,它的角度C一般设置成约4°。因而,上下壁部分4和6在边缘5处相交,从而形成一个约173°(即180°+4°-11°)的钝角。一般来说,该边缘5具有约0.005英寸的曲率半径。由于压头2下壁6的角度B比罐底下壁14的角度A要小,所以在该压头侧壁和该罐底侧壁之间邻近压头壁边缘5的地方形成有一个相对大的空隙,大小差不多为0.010英寸,如图1所示。
通过顺序地将头道和二道卷边辊轮施加到卷曲边12,以便将该卷曲边和凸缘11压向压头上壁4来完成卷边,从而产生一个标准的二重卷边22,如图2所示。
不幸的是,尽管在卷合的过程中压住了压头2,但当卷边辊轮的压力释放时,罐底的侧壁14有弹回即径向向外弹的趋势。因而,虽然常规卷边压头2的上下壁4和6形成了两个直的、截头圆锥形的区段,但卷合后的罐底10′的侧壁14′是弧形的,具有相对大的曲率半径R1,如图2所示。卷合后侧壁14′的弯曲性削弱了卷边后罐底10′的强度。
最近开发出一种非标准的罐底,卷合后的侧壁是由在沿周向延伸的折边处相交的两个直的区段形成的。这样一种罐底在公开的PCT申请WO 96/37414中示出。这种结构是通过最初以一个据称优选在40°-45°范围内的大角度来形成罐底侧壁而实现的。根据这一公开的PCT申请中描述的方法,卷边压头具有一个以类似的大角度设置的下壁,和一个在+4°至-4°范围内的上壁。虽然这种方法产生了一个强化的罐底,但不幸的是,在该方法中要求的大罐底侧壁角并不适用于如上所述侧壁角仅仅为14°的标准罐底。
因此,最好能提供一种将常规罐底与罐身卷合的方法和装置,从而形成的卷边的罐底具有强度增加的侧壁。
发明概述
本发明的一个目的在于提供一种将常规罐底与罐身卷合的方法和装置,从而形成的卷边的罐底就具有强度增加的侧壁。这个目的及其它目的都是在一种将罐底和罐身卷合的方法中实现的,该方法包括的步骤有:(ⅰ)形成一个具有侧壁和周围卷合板的罐底,该侧壁是通过将一单个的基本上直的区段设置成与中心轴线相交成约12°-15°而形成的,(ⅱ)将一个压头嵌入该罐底邻近该侧壁的地方,该压头具有形成上下压头壁的上下部分,该压头下壁基本上是截头圆锥形的,并与该中心轴线相交成一角度,该角度不小于罐底侧壁基本上直的区段与该中心轴线所成的角度,该压头上壁与该中心轴线所成的角度在约0°至-2°的范围内,(ⅲ)将该罐底的卷合板与罐身进行卷合,从而将罐底侧壁改造为基本上直的上下区段,该基本直的上下区段相交成一个钝角。
本发明还包含一个用于将罐底和罐身进行卷合的压头,它包括:(ⅰ)一个形成上壁的上部,该上壁与该中心轴线相交成约0°至-2°的角度,(ⅱ)一个形成下壁的下部,该下壁基本上是截头圆锥形的,并与该上壁相交成一个约162°至168°范围内的角度。

优选实施例的说明
图3和4中示出了根据本发明将一个常规罐底10卷合到一个常规罐身20上的新方法。如上所述,该罐底10一般是由金属例如铝制造的,并且是采用众所周知的技术模压形成的。该罐身20也是由一种金属例如铝制造的,并且也是采用众所周知的技术在压延-变薄拉深工艺中形成的。通常,该罐底10的截头圆锥形侧壁14在压边筋16和卷合板13之间延伸,与一条平行于罐身20的中心纵轴的线7成一个角度A,该角度A范围在约12°-15°之间,优选约14°。
在卷合之前,罐身20的凸缘11位于邻接罐底侧壁14形成的卷合板13的下方。接着将一个本发明构造的并将在下面讨论的卷边压头42嵌入罐底10且邻接该侧壁14的地方,从而该压头的末端进入压边筋16。该卷边压头42具有一个上壁44和一个下壁46,它们在一个沿圆周延伸的边缘45处相交。
在本发明中,压头42的下壁46设置成与平行于罐身中心轴线的线7相交成一个角度B’,罐身的中心轴线与压头的中心轴线重合,而角度B’与罐底侧壁14的角度A非常接近。具体地来说,该角度B’应当不小于,并且最优选稍大于角度A。因而,当罐底侧壁14的角度A设置成为优选角度约14°时,压头下壁46的角度B’应在约14°-15°范围内。一般来说,本发明中的压头下壁46的角度B’应在约A到A+1°范围内(如上所述,由于标准罐底的侧壁角度在约12°-15°范围内,所以本发明中的压头42的下壁角度就在约12°-16°范围内)。正因为在本发明中罐底和压头的侧壁角度之间具有这种关系,因此如图3所示,当压头42嵌入罐底10时,压头侧壁的边缘45和罐底侧壁14之间的间隙很小或没有间隙。实际上,优选当压头42完全嵌入压边筋16时,在压头侧壁的边缘45和罐底侧壁14之间会稍微留点间隙。
在本发明中,压头42的上壁44是圆柱形或稍微有点负向倾斜的,设置成与中心轴线的平行线7相交成一个角度C’,处于约0°至-2°范围内,并优选为约-1°。因而,本发明中制造的压头42的上、下壁44和46相交成一个钝角D’,根据待卷合的罐底侧壁14的角度A,这个钝角D’在约162°(即180°-2°-16°)到168°(即180°-0°-12°)范围内。如果罐底侧壁14是以约14°的优选角度形成的,那么优选上、下壁44和46相交成一个约165°(即180°-1°-14°)的钝角。明显地,如上所述,这个角度D’小于传统上与常规罐底10的卷边压头2有关的近似173°的角度D。如图6所示,形成在边缘45上的优选半径R′在约0.001-0.020英寸范围内,并优选约0.010英寸。而且,如图3所示,压头42的上壁44的长度L′大致为0.1英寸。
通常,卷合是这样来实现的,即连续地将一系列转动的卷边辊轮60施加到卷曲边12,其中一个卷边辊轮在图4中示出,这样辊轮60的表面63便将该卷曲边和凸缘11压向压头42的上壁44,从而形成二重卷边62。
通过采用本发明中的卷边压头42,便形成了一个例如图5所示的卷边罐底10″。与例如在图2中所示的常规卷边罐底10的弧形侧壁14′相比,本发明中卷合的罐底10″的侧壁14″是分段的。如图5所示,罐底侧壁包括一个基本上直的上区段66和一个基本上直的、截头圆锥形的下区段68。上、下区段66和68在一个沿圆周延伸的折边或弯折69处相交。基本上直的上区段66从卷边62延伸到折边69,而基本上直的、截头圆锥形的下区段68从该折边向压边筋16延伸。
在本发明中卷合之后,罐底下壁68与一条平行于中心轴线的线7相交的角度A基本上保持不变,如上所述,处在约12°-15°的范围内并优选为约14°。尽管在卷合中罐底上侧壁66紧紧压着压头上壁44,但卷合之后它会略微地弹回,也就是径向地向外弹。因此,罐底上侧壁66与平行于中心轴线的线7相交的角度E一般在约0°-2°的范围内。因而,在本发明的卷边的罐底中,如果罐底最初的侧壁角度A在约12°-15°范围内,那么上、下侧壁66和68相交的钝角F一般在约(180°-0°-A)至(180°+2°-A)的范围内,或在约165°(即180°+0°-15°)至约170°(即180°+2°-12°)范围内。如果罐底最初的侧壁角度A为约14°时,那么最终卷边的罐底的侧壁区段所成的钝角将会在约166°(即180°-0°-14°)至约168°(即180°+2°-14°)范围内。
明显地,在本发明中,卷合会引起罐底侧壁14永久地弯折,从而形成一个分段的侧壁,它由两个基本上直的区段构成,而不是图2中所示的采用惯常卷合方法形成的一体的弧形侧壁。这种分段的侧壁结构是通过部分地将压头和罐底的侧壁按角度紧密配合而建立的,从而该压头侧壁边缘45和卷合之前的罐底侧壁14之间的径向间隙会很小或没有。如果没有径向间隙的话,则卷边辊轮60的向内径向运动更容易使罐底侧壁发生永久变形。
也正因为压头42的钝角D′足够小,从而使侧壁在卷合时永久地弯折,所以分段侧壁的结构容易形成。令人惊讶的是,永久弯折的实现并不受限于具有高达45°的大侧壁角的非标准的罐底,而这在现有技术中却认为是必要的。相反,在本发明中,在将一个侧壁角在12°-15°范围内的常规罐底卷合时,通过将压头侧壁相交的钝角D′减小至不大于约168°可以可靠地形成弯折。压头侧壁之间的钝角D′减小是利用压头下壁46的角度B′而实现的,如上所述,其非常接近或稍微大于罐底侧壁14的角度A。这与现有技术中的认识相反,如上所述,现有技术指出压头下壁的角度应比罐底侧壁的角度小几度。
通过将压头42的上壁44成形为不同于常规卷边压头中的正向倾斜,而是如上所述形成圆柱形的或稍微有点负向倾斜,这也有助于减小压头壁相交的钝角D′。压头上壁为圆柱形或负向倾斜在现有技术中是不被接受的,因为一直以来都认为这样做会难于从压头除去罐底。令人惊讶的是,发明者得出了这样的结论,即通过本发明的压头42,罐底侧壁66会在卷合之后充分地弹回,从而罐底10″容易从压头除去,即便压头上壁的角度为-2°的负锥角时也不受影响。
如图2所示,与在惯常卷边方法中形成的弧形罐底侧壁14′相比,本发明的罐底10″具有的侧壁是分段的,并至少包括两个基本上是直的、截头圆锥形的部分66和68,这样它的强度就增加了,尤其是环向强度。
本发明还体现在其它具体的形式中,而不脱离其精神或本质属性。因此,本发明要求保护的范围应参照随附的权利要求书而不是前面的说明书。

Claims (14)

1.一种将罐底与罐身进行卷合的方法,所述罐身限定了一条中心轴线,该方法包括的步骤有:
a)形成一个具有侧壁和周缘卷合板的罐底,所述侧壁是通过将一单个的基本上直的区段设置成与所述中心轴线相交成约12°-15°而形成的;
b)将一个压头嵌入所述罐底邻近所述侧壁的地方,所述压头具有形成压头上下壁的上下部分,所述压头下壁基本上是截头圆锥形的并与所述中心轴线相交成一角度B,该角度B不小于所述罐底侧壁的所述基本上直的区段所设的那个角度A,所述压头上壁与所述中心轴线所成的角度在约0°至-2°的范围内;以及
c)将所述罐底的所述卷合板与罐身进行卷合,从而将所述罐底侧壁改造为基本上直的上下区段,所述基本直的上下区段相交成一个钝角F。
2.如权利要求1所述的方法,其特征在于,所述罐底侧壁基本上直的区段相交的所述钝角F在约165°至170°的范围内。
3.如权利要求1所述的方法,其特征在于,所述卷合步骤包括改造所述罐底侧壁,从而形成一个将所述基本上直的上下区段分开的、沿圆周延伸的折边。
4.如权利要求1所述的方法,其特征在于,所述压头上下壁相交于一个半径为约0.001-0.020英寸的边缘处。
