背景技术
下述发明涉及具有柔性印刷电路板的打印头组件,该柔性电路板向打印机中的各个打印头模块提供电能和数据。
尤其是,虽然该发明并不广泛涉及打印头组件,该打印头组件具有给单独的打印头模块提供数据和电能连接的柔性印刷电路板,在A4页宽下,根据需求,该打印头能够以每分钟1600dpi的图像质量打印160页。该柔性印刷电路板也与一对母线相连,用于传送电能。
在该打印机的整个设计中,该组件能够以大约8.5英寸长(21cm)的矩阵绕可替换的打印头模组旋转。这样的系统的优点是能够方便移动且替换打印头矩阵中的损坏模块。这样,如果一个芯片坏掉,就不得不破坏整个打印头。
这样的打印机中的一个打印头模块可以由“Memjet”芯片组成,该“Memjet”芯片具有位于其上的微结构和微电机系统(MEMS)中的大量热制动器。这样的制动器在该申请人的美国专利6,044,646中有所揭示,然而,可以是其它MEMS打印芯片。
在一个典型的实施例中,11个“Memjet”瓦片能在金属通道中相接在一起,形成一个8.5英寸的打印头组件。
打印头,采用本发明的组件,典型的是具有6个墨腔,而且能够打印四色处理(CMYK)而且具有红外墨水和定色剂。一个抽气机通过第七个腔将过滤过的空气供应到打印头,该空气将用于防止杂质粒子进入喷嘴。
每个打印头模块通过传送墨水的弹性出口接收墨水。典型的是,该打印头组件适合打印A4纸,无需打印头扫描纸张宽度。
打印头本身是模组,因此打印头矩阵可以组装成任意宽度的打印头。
另外,第二打印头组件可以安装在供纸通道的对面,以便能够实现高速的双面打印。
发明目的
本发明的一个目的在于提供一种具有柔性印刷电路板的打印头组件,该柔性电路板用于向组件的打印头模块提供电能和数据。
本发明的另一目的在于提供一种改进的打印头组件。
发明内容
本发明提供一种适应需求页宽的喷墨打印机的打印头组件,包括:
一个沿页宽充分延伸的打印头模块矩阵,
一个柔性印刷电路板,所述印刷电路板向所述模块运送数据,所述印刷电路板也沿所述页宽充分延伸,
一对母线,所述母线电连接至柔性印刷电路板并传送电能,该母线也沿所述页宽充分延伸。
优选的是,所述母线被焊接至所述柔性印刷电路板。
优选的是,所述柔性印刷电路板与每个打印头模块上的单独的密间距柔性PCB相接触。
优选的是,所述柔性印刷电路板具有一系列镀金的、半球形的接触点,该接触点与所述密间距柔性PCB上的接触片相接。

具体实施方式
所示为打印头的外观示意图。图2所示为图1中打印头的核心部件的分解示意图。所述较佳实施例的打印头组件10包括11个打印头模块,该打印头模块沿着一金属“殷钢”通道16被定位。在每一个打印头模块11的中心处有一“Memjet”芯片23(如图3所示)。在该较佳实施例中,所述特别的芯片被选定为六色配置。
所述“Memjet”打印头模块11是由所述的“Memjet”芯片23,一密间距柔性印刷电路板(PCB)26和两个中间夹有中间插入式薄膜35的微成型件28,34构成。每一个模块11都形成一具有独立的墨水室63(如图9所示)的密封单元,所述墨水室63为所述芯片23供墨。所述模块11直接地插在一易弯曲的弹性挤出部件15上,该挤出部件15携带空气,墨水和固定物。所述挤出部件15的上表面上具有孔21的重复的图案,该孔21与墨水入口32(如图3a所示)排成直线,所述墨水入口32处于每一个模块11的下侧上。所述挤出部件15被接合在一柔性印刷电路板上。

当所述“Memjet”芯片不使用的时候,一加盖装置12被用来盖在其上。典型地,所述加盖装置由弹簧钢制成,并且其上插有一成型弹性垫47(如图12a所示)。所述垫47当没被加盖时用来通过管道输送空气进入所述的“Memjet”芯片中,而当被加盖时用来隔绝空气并且盖住喷嘴防护装置24(如图9所示)。所述加盖装置12通过一凸轮轴13被致动,典型地,该凸轮轴13可在整个180°的范围内旋转。
典型地,所述“Memjet”芯片的全部厚度是0.6mm,该厚度包括一150微米的入口衬里层27和一150微米厚度的喷嘴防护装置24。这些元件被装配在电晶片上。
所述喷嘴防护装置24允许过滤空气进入到一80微米厚的位于所述“Memjet”喷墨嘴62上的腔64(如图16所示)内。所述加压空气通过喷嘴防护装置24(在打印操作中具有墨水)中的微滴孔45流动,并且通过阻挡杂质粒子被用来保护精密的“Memjet”喷嘴62。
一硅芯片衬里层27从直接封装的打印头模块处将墨水通过管道输送到“Memjet”喷嘴62的排上。所述“Memjet”芯片23是引线接合部件25从密间距柔性PCB26的116位置的芯片上的接合片被接合的。该引线接合部件具有120微米的间距,且当它们与密间距柔性PCB片相接合时被切断(图3)。所述密间距柔性PCB26沿着所述柔性PCB的边缘通过一系列金黄色接触垫69从柔性印刷电路板17处传送数据和动力。
在运输,定位和将所述芯片组件粘合到所述打印头模块组件中之前,在芯片和密间距柔性印刷电路板26之间的引线结合操作可远程操作完成。二者择一地,所述“Memjet”芯片23可首先被粘合到所述上部微成型件28中,然后所述密间距柔性印刷电路板26被粘合到适当的位置处。随后所述引线结合操作可在原位置处进行,而不会有使微成型件28,34发生变形的危险。所述上部微成型件28可由液晶聚合物(LCP)的混合物制成。因为所述上部微成型件28的晶状结构是微小的,所以不管熔点相对地有多低,热变形温度(180℃-260℃),持续使用温度(200℃一240℃)和耐焊接热(从10秒钟260℃到10秒钟310℃)都较高。
在图3中,每一个打印头模块11都包括一上部微成型件28和一下部微成型件34,这两个微成型件被中间插入式薄膜35分开。
该中间插入式薄膜35可以是惰性聚合物如聚酰亚胺,其具有较好的化学耐性和尺寸稳定性。该中间插入式薄膜35可以具有激光烧蚀的孔65,而且可以包括双面粘合剂(即双面粘合层),该双面粘合剂提供上部微成型件、中间插入式薄膜和下部微成型件之间的粘合。
该上部微成型件28具有一对穿过中间插入式薄膜35中的对应小孔的对准销29,容置于下部微成型件34中的对应凹处66中。这样,当各部件接合在一起时,就能对准。一旦接合在一起,上部微成型件和下部微成型件就在整个“Memjet”打印头模块11中形成曲折的墨水和空气通道。
在下部微成型件34的下面有环形墨水入口32。在一较佳实施例中,有6个入口32对应各种墨水(黑色、黄色、洋红色、青色、定色剂和红外墨水)。还有一个空气入口槽67。该空气入口槽67延伸通过下部微成型件34,直到第二入口,该第二入口通过一个排气孔33,通过密间距柔性PCB26中的对准孔68排出空气。这样,在打印过程中,有助于从打印头排除出打印媒体。如从空气入口槽67延伸出的路径一样,该墨水入口32在上部微成型件28的下表面继续延伸。该墨水入口通向200微米的出口孔,该出口孔在图3的也以附图标记32指代。这些孔对应“Memjet”芯片23的硅衬里层27上的入口。
在下部微成型件34的一个边缘,具有一对弹性垫36。当模块在组装过程中被微放置时,这用于调整偏差和固定的打印头模块11置于金属通道16中。
用于“Memjet”微成型件的较佳材料是LCP。LCP在成型件的细节方面具有合适的流体特性,且具有相对低的热膨胀系数。
上部微成型件28中具有自动拾取零件,能够使其在组装过程中对打印头模块11进行精确定位。
图3所示的上部微成型件28的上表面具有一系列交互的空气入口和出口31。它们与加盖装置12连接时起作用,或者都被密封或者被分成空气入口/出口室,这取决于加盖装置12的位置。根据单元密封或开盖,它们将空气从入口67转向芯片23。
封口机凸轮零件40包括一个用于加盖装置的斜坡,该斜坡在上部微成型件28的上表面示出了两个位置。这方便加盖装置12进行对芯片和空气室进行所需的封闭或打开动作。也就是说,在加盖和去盖的操作过程中,当加盖装置通过打印芯片侧移时,封口机凸轮零件40的斜面用于弹性地弯曲,由于操作凸轮轴13使得加盖装置移动,因此防止该装置的碎屑损坏喷嘴防护装置24。
该“Memjet”芯片组件23被拾取且被接合于打印头模块11上的上部微成型件28中。密间距柔性PCB26被接合,并环绕组装的打印头模块11的侧面,如图4所示。在初始的接合操作之后,芯片23具有更多用于长边的密封剂和粘合剂46。这有助于“罐入”接合线25(图6),密封“Memjet”芯片23于成型件28,并形成一个密封的通道,过滤的空气能够通过喷嘴防护装置24流进和排出该密封的通道。
该柔性PCB17传送从主PCB(未示)到每个“Memjet”打印头模块11的数据和电能连接。该柔性PCB17具有一系列镀金的、半球形的接触点69(图2),该接触点69和每个“Memjet”打印头模块11的密间距柔性PCB26上的接触垫41、42及43相接触。
两个铜质母线带19和20,一般为200微米厚,被夹紧且焊接在柔性PCB17上。母线19和20连接同样传送有数据的柔性终端。
柔性PCB17为大约长340mm,宽14mm的带形。它在组装过程中与金属通道16接合,只从打印头组件的一端伸出。
主部件位于其内的金属U形通道16由一种称为“殷钢36”的特殊合金制成。它是一种镍含量为36%的镍铁合金,其在400°F的高温下热膨胀系数为碳钢的十分之一。该殷钢被退火,以达到最理想的尺寸稳定性。
另外,该殷钢表面被镀上0.056%厚度的镍。这更有助于和2×10-6/℃的硅的热膨胀系数相吻合。
殷钢通道16用于在相互的精确对准操作中捕捉“Memjet”打印头模块11,并在模块11上施以足够的力,以便在每个打印头组件的墨水入口32和被激光烧蚀形成的弹性供墨挤出部件15的出口孔21之间形成密封结构。对于硅芯片,殷钢通道的与硅芯片相似的热膨胀系数允许在温度变化过程中发生相似的移动。每个打印头模块11的一侧的弹性垫36用于“润滑”通道16中的打印头模块,以便在不发生偏斜的情况下,调整任何侧向热膨胀系数的偏差。殷钢通道是冷轧、退火和镀镍钢带。除了需要在形状上弯曲两次之外,该通道在每一端还具有两个方形切口80。这两个方形切口与打印头定位成型件14上的卡扣接头81配合。
该弹性供墨挤出部件15为非疏水性的、精确部件。其功能是向“Memjet”打印头模块11传输墨水和空气。该挤出部件在组装过程中被接合到柔性PCB17的顶部,且具有两种类型的成型件端盖。其中一种示于图18a中的70。
一系列的形成图案的孔21位于挤出部件15的上表面。它们是被激光烧蚀而成的。至端部,一个罩被放置在挤出部件的表面上,能够对其上的激光进行聚焦。孔21从上表面被蒸发,但是由于激光的焦点长度,激光并不会切入挤出部件15的下表面。
激光烧蚀孔21的11个重复图案形成挤出部件15的墨水和空气出口21。它们与位于“Memjet”打印头模块下部微成型件34的下侧的具有环形插入物32相接。大孔的不同图案(在图18a中未示出,隐藏于端盖70的上板71下方)在挤出部件15的一端上烧蚀而成。它们与上述位于每一个微成型件34下侧的表面以同样的方式烧蚀而成的孔相配合,这些小孔75具有环形肋。墨水和空气输送软管78连到各自的连接器76上,连接器76从上板71延伸出来。由于挤出部件15的固有的弹性,它能够弯曲成多种墨水连接设备形状,而不会限制墨水和空气的流动。成型端端盖70具有一个脊73,通过脊73上、下板铰接成一体。脊73包括一排插头74,插头74被容置在挤出部件15的各自的液流通道的端部。
挤出部件15的另一端用简单的塞子封闭,这些塞子以与脊17上74插头同样的方式来阻塞通道。
端端盖70以扣紧配合片77扣到墨水挤出部件15上。一旦与输送软管78一起装配,就可从墨水池和空气泵得到墨水和空气,可能是通过过滤装置。端端盖70可以与挤出部件的任意一端相连,即可以位于打印头的任意一端。
被推进到挤出部件15的通道和板71、72中的插头74是折叠的。扣紧配合片77将成型件扣住,防止其从挤出部件滑落。当板扣在一起,围绕挤出部件的末端形成一个密封圈形式。与连接器76上的各自的软管78不同的是,成形件70表面可以直接带有一个墨水盒。一个密封销装置也可以应用于所述成型件70。例如,一个预成型的,带有一个弹性圈的中空金属销可以固定到入口连接器76的顶部。当墨水盒插入后,以此墨水盒来自动密封入口。空气入口和软管可以比其它的入口小,为的是避免从空气通道意外的排出墨水。
“Memjet”打印头的端盖装置12典型地由不锈弹簧钢制成。如图12a和图12b所示,一个弹性密封或上插入成型件47与端盖装置相连。形成端盖装置的金属部分是冲压毛坯件,然后将其插入到注塑成型工具中,准备将塑料注射到它的下面。小孔79(图13b)位于金属端盖装置12的上表面,这些小孔可以是脉冲孔。这些小孔用来将上插入成型件47锁到金属上。在使用了成型件47后,毛坯被插入到一个冲压工具中,进行附加的弯曲操作和对弹簧48的一体成型。
弹性上插入件47有一系列的方形凹槽或空气室56。不加盖时这些凹槽形成室。室56位于位于“Memjet”打印头模块11中的上部微成型件28的空气入口和排出孔30的上方。这使得空气可以从一个入口流到下一个出口。当端盖装置12向前移向“原始”封闭位置,如图11所示,这些通气孔32可以由上插入成型件47的一个空白部分来密封,以切断流向“Memjet”芯片23的空气流。这防止过滤的空气干燥而阻塞精巧的“Memjet”喷嘴。
上插入成型件47的中一个功能是覆盖和抵着喷嘴防护装置24扣接到“Memjet”芯片23上。这防止干燥,但主要是防止外物,如纸屑,进行芯片并损伤喷嘴。芯片只是在打印时暴露在外,此时过滤的空气经喷嘴防护装置24与墨滴一同排出。在打印过程中正空气压力排斥外物,在不用时,端盖装置保护芯片。
一体成型弹簧48从金属16通道的侧边偏离端盖装置12。端盖装置12向打印头模块11的上部和金属通道下面施加一个压力。端盖装置12的侧面的端盖的运动由一个偏心凸轮轴13来控制,该凸轮轴13抵着端盖装置的一侧安装。它将装置12推向金属通道16。在这个运动过程中,位于端盖装置12的上表面的下方的突起57跨过位于上部微成型件28上的各自的斜面40。这个运动使端盖装置弯曲,并且使其上表面上升从而使上插入成型件47当它侧向移动到护端盖24的上部时上升。
凸轮13,可以反转,由两个打印头定位成型件14定位。凸轮11可以在一端有一个平面,或者可以有带有一个花键或键槽来容置齿轮22或其它类型的运动控制件。
该“Memjet”芯片和打印头模块按照下述的步骤组装:
1、该“Memjet”芯片23被一个拾取和放置自动机械进行排空试验,这也将晶片切成小片,并将各个小片传送到密间距柔性PCB接合区域。
2、当容纳后,该“Memjet”芯片23被放置在离密间距柔性PCB26有530微米的位置,且具有位于芯片上的接合片和位于密间距柔性PCB上的导电片之间使用的引线接合部件25。这构成了“Memjet”芯片组件。
3、和步骤2可替换的是,对打印头模块的上部成型件28中的芯片腔的内壁使用粘合剂,将芯片首先接合于适当位置。密间距柔性PCB26然后可以被应用到微成型件的上表面,并包在该侧上。然后,引线接合部件25就被连接于芯片上的接合片与密间距柔性PCB之间。
4、“Memjet”芯片组件被真空传送到打印头模块所存储的接合区域。
5、在打印头模块的上部微成型件中的密间距柔性PCB将要被定位的区域,以及芯片腔的下内壁使用粘合剂。
6、芯片组件(和密间距柔性PCB)被接合在该位置。密间距柔性PCB被小心地包在上部微成型件的一侧周围,这样就不会损坏引线接合部件。如果认为密间距柔性PCB可以对引线接合部件施压,这可以理解为第二步粘合的操作。由于内部的芯片腔壁被涂覆,和芯片平行的一行粘合剂可以同时使用。这允许芯片组件和密间距柔性PCB置于芯片腔中,且允许密间距柔性PCB与微成型件在不需外压的情况下接合。该处理之后,第二粘合操作是将粘合剂应用于密间距柔性PCB区域中的上部微成型件的短侧壁。这允许密间距柔性PCB包在微成型件周围且固定,同时在引线接合部件下面,仍旧在沿顶部边缘的位置牢牢地接合。
7、在最后的粘合操作中,喷嘴防护装置的上部被粘附到上部微成型件,形成一个密封的空气室。对”Memjet”芯片的对面的长边也使用粘合剂,在此,接合引线在处理过程中被“罐入”。
8、使用纯净水对这些模块进行湿度试验,以保证可靠的性能,然后烘干。
9、在被包装成打印头组件或单独的单元之前,这些模块被输送至干净的存储区域。然后完成“Memjet”打印头模块组件的组装工作。
10、金属殷钢通道16被拾取并放置于一夹具中。
11、柔性PCB17被拾取并使用粘合剂固定于母线一侧上,定位并接合于底板和金属通道的一侧上。
12、柔性墨水挤出部件15被拾取,并粘合于下面。然后被定位并粘合于柔性PCB17顶部的位置。其中一个打印头定位端盖也配合该挤出部件输出端。这样就构成了一个通道组件。
激光烧蚀的过程如下:
13、通道组件被输送至一个受激准分子激光烧蚀区域。
14、该组件被放入一个夹具中,该挤出部件被定位、罩住并被激光烧蚀。这样就形成了一个上部表面中的墨水孔。
15、该墨水挤出部件15具有适用的墨水和空气连接器成型件70。加压的空气或纯净水通过挤出部件来清洗。
16、该端盖成型件70与挤出部件15相连接。然后用热空气烘干。
17、该通道组件被输送到打印头模块区域,成为直接的模块组件。一种替换做法是,在被烧蚀的孔上加一层薄膜,在需要时存储通道组件。
“Memjet”芯片和打印头模块如下进行组装:
通道的打印头组件以下列方式组装:
18.通道组件是被拾取,放置和夹进打印头组件区域的横向阶段。
19.如图14所示,自动机械工具58抓住金属通道的侧面并且抵着下表面枢转点进行枢转来有效地弯曲通道部分200到300微米。所施加的力在图14中以箭头矢量F表示。这使得第一“Memjet“打印头组件可以由自动机械拾取而放入到通道组件中(相对于PCB17上的第一个接触垫片和墨水挤出孔)。
20.将工具58松开,通过殷钢通道的弹回来捕获打印头模块,横向阶段将组件向前移动19.81mm。
21.工具58再次抓住通道的侧边,使其弯曲分离以准备下一个打印头模块。
22.第二个打印头模块11被拾取并且被放入到距离前一个模块50微米的距离处。
23.一个调整致动臂将第二个打印头模块的末端定位。所述的臂在每一条上由一列光学基准来引导。当调整臂推动打印头模块,位于基准之间的间隙关闭直到它们实现准确间距为19.182mm。
24.工具58放开,移去调整臂,将第二个打印头模块连接到位。
25.重复过程直到通道组件装满打印头模块。从横向阶段将此单元移去并运送到端盖组件区。二者择一的,薄膜可以用来覆盖打印头模块的喷嘴护盖来作为一个端盖,并且此单元可以进行贮存以备使用。
端盖装置的组装如下:
26.将打印头组件运送到一个端盖区域。端盖装置12被拾取,轻轻地进行分离弯曲,并被推到打印头组件的第一模块11和金属通道16上。利用上部微成型件的凹槽83内的钢中的斜面57,端盖装置12自动进入到的组件中,一个单独的斜坡40位于上部微成型件中。
27.接下来将端盖装置应用到所有的打印头模块中。
28.当完成时,凸轮13位于组件的打印头定位成型件14中。有第二个打印头定位成型件位于其自由端,该成型件扣在金属通道的末端,支撑着凸轮并扣合着装置腔。
29.成型齿轮22或其它的动作控制件装置可以在这个点上加到凸轮的任一端上。
30.端盖组件自动检测。
打印控制如下进行:
31:打印头组件10被移动到测试区。通过“Memjet“模块打印头施加的墨水处于压力下。在启动过程中空气通过”Memjet“排出去。当充电时,打印头可以进行电连接并进行测试。
32.如下进行电连接和测试:
33.对PCB进行电能和数据连接。最终的测试可以开始,当经过时,“Memjet“模块打印头封闭,其下侧有一个弹性密封膜来保护打印头直到产品安装完成。

Claims (9)

1、一种适应需求页宽的喷墨打印机的打印头组件,包括:
一个沿页宽充分延伸的打印头模块矩阵,
一个柔性印刷电路板,所述印刷电路板向所述模块运送数据,所述印刷电路板也沿所述页宽充分延伸,
一对母线,所述母线电连接至柔性印刷电路板并传送电能,该母线也沿所述页宽充分延伸。
2、如权利要求1所述的打印头组件,其特征在于:所述母线被焊接至所述柔性印刷电路板。
3、如权利要求1所述的打印头组件,其特征在于:所述柔性印刷电路板与每个打印头模块上的单独的密间距柔性PCB相接触。
4、如权利要求3所述的打印头组件,其特征在于:所述柔性印刷电路板具有一系列镀金的、半球形的接触点,该接触点与所述密间距柔性PCB上的接触片相接。
5、如权利要求1所述的打印头组件,其特征在于:所述柔性印刷电路板从组件的一端延伸,以便进行数据连接。
6、如权利要求1所述的打印头组件,其特征在于:所述打印头模块被固定于延长通道,弹性供墨挤出部件被定位在模块和通道之间,柔性印刷电路板被夹在弹性供墨挤出部件和通道之间,并绕挤出部件的边缘延伸,以便向打印头模块传送电能和数据。
7、如权利要求6所述的打印头组件,其特征在于:所述母线被定位在柔性印刷电路板和弹性供墨挤出部件之间。
8、如权利要求4所述的打印头组件,其特征在于:所述镀金的、半球形的接触点和所述接触片沿所述打印头模块被定位,且受通道施加的回弹力的作用斜向进入共同接触部分。
9、如权利要求6所述的打印头组件,其特征在于:所述柔性印刷电路板与通道接合。
