技术领域
这里公开并申请的本发明一般涉及一种用于向电视用户提供感兴趣节目的未观看部分的概要的方法和装置。更具体地说，本发明涉及一种上述形式的方法，其中观看者可在同一时段期间接入到不同通道的电视节目，并且可接收当前正观看节目的先前错过部分的概要。
背景技术
对于电视观看者来说，在观看一个节目一段时间之后，改变通道转到第二个节目是非常普遍的。再过一段时间后，观看者可能转换到第三个通道的节目，或者回到第一个节目。图1中示出了后一种情况。
图1示出在60分钟时隙期间观看者可同时得到的不同通道的节目1和2。观看者从其起点开始观看节目1。30分钟之后，观看者转换到节目2的通道。在该时隙的40分钟时，观看者转换回节目1，用于60分钟节目时段的剩余时间。

发明内容
本发明用于在一个节目开始之后的某一时间转换到该节目以后，向电视观看者提供他/或她错过的节目部分的概要。在一些实施例中，观看者将收到覆盖从节目开始到观看者第一次调到该节目通道的时间的节目部分的概要。在另一些实施例中，其中当节目开始时观看者调到节目通道，观看者离开以及随后返回的时间，节目将被监视。随后，在这些时间之间的节目部分的概要将被提供给观看者。在本发明的实用实施例中，结合数据传送通道阵列执行该方法，其中通道可分别与视频接收器或类似设备相连，并且视频内容通过每个通道被同时传送。接收器被用来在第一时段期间显示通过第一通道传送的视频内容，以及在紧接第一时段的第二时段期间显示通过第二通道传送的视频内容。该方法还包括产生在第一时段期间通过第二通道传送的视频内容的概要。该概要随后在第二时段期间呈现给视频接收器的用户。

具体实施方式
参照图2，其中示出被配置用来实现本发明的实施例的电视观看系统200。系统200包括媒体库202，该媒体库202被连接以从被统称为204的N个数据传送通道的每一个接收与电视有关的媒体内容。通道的每一个有用地包含常规的商业电视频道，用来承载可由任何可利用传送装置传送的信息。这样的装置包括但不限于无线电广播、人造卫星、电缆传送装置、无线传送装置以及使用因特网。传送的数据可为数字或模拟形式，并且通常包含正好适于指定的时隙(time slot)的节目。这样的时段具有标准长度，比如半个小时、一个小时和两个小时，并且通常按照整小时或半小时开始和结束。
通过N个通道的每个传送的数据为多媒体数据，因而包括视频内容和相应的音频内容。因此，被调到任意通道的常规电视接收器将能够解码传送的数据，从而显示视频图像和伴音或音频信息。视频图像也可伴随其它相关信息，比如文本消息等。
图2还示出了设置有视频记录设备206比如数字视频记录器(DVR)的媒体库202。DVR 206用来记录由各自通道1-N承载的所有内容。记录的内容仅在DVR 206中被存储在其各自分配的时隙之后的指定时段。在结合图5在下文中描述的可选实施例中，媒体库502可被用来代替系统200的媒体库202。
图2示出从媒体库202连接到观看站208的各通道1-N，所述观看站208包括显示设备210、扬声器和相关音频组件212以及输入设备214。实际上，观看站可包括设置有针对本发明的实施例所需的一些修改的常规电视机或接收器。因此，观看站208将包括用于选择N个通道的任意一个的调谐器或其它通道选择器(未示出)。所选通道的视频内容通过显示设备210被显示为连续的视频图像。音频内容通过扬声器212被产生为伴随视频图像的声音，并且站208的操作通过输入设备214来控制。设备214可包括标准的电视遥控器，还可包括用于诸如图2中所示的控制计算机220之类的关联的计算机的鼠标或其它输入设备。

如以上所述，当观看者选择已在进行中的电视节目时，希望向观看者提供错过的节目部分的概要。为了实现此，设置了控制计算机220，该控制计算机220包括中央处理单元(CPU)222、高速缓冲存储器或局部存储器218、存储器224和数据库226。在图2的实施例中，计算机220包含控制CPU 222和计算机220的操作的控制程序。从观看站208接收的消息228被有用地存储在数据库226中。如下文中更详细所述的，控制计算机220与媒体库202共同相互作用，以向观看站208提供必要的概要信息。

参照图3，其中示出可适于用作图2中所示的系统200中的控制计算机220的一般的数据处理系统300的方块图。数据处理系统300作为计算机的示例，用于实现本发明的处理的代码或指令位于其中。数据处理系统300有用地使用外围部件互连(PCI)局部总线体系结构，尽管也可选地使用其它总线体系结构，比如加速图形接口(AGP)和工业标准体系结构(ISA)。图3示出通过主机/PCI桥308与PCI局部总线306连接的处理器302和主存储器304。PCI桥308也可包括用于处理器302的集成存储控制器和高速缓冲存储器。

当观看站208的用户从一个通道转换到另一通道时，控制计算机220通过如上所述的时间/通道ID消息228被告知新通道的改变。响应该通知，计算机220中的控制程序开始图4中所示的过程。该过程产生与运行在此刻是当前通道的新通道上的节目有关的概要。更具体地说，概要与在观看站208被调到先前通道时错过的节目的先前部分有关。

通过考虑利用时间/通道ID消息228先前存储在控制计算机220中的数据，可容易地解决判定块406的询问。如果该数据示出当前通道的节目先前已被访问，则数据库406提供“是”输出。响应该输出，必需确定表示为时间X的、当前通道被最后访问的时间，如功能块408所示。时间X由利用消息228发送给计算机220的数据示出，并且为观看站208被调离当前通道的最后时间。

还参照图4，如果当前通道先前未被访问，使得判定块406的输出为“否”，则时间X被设置为00:00，如功能块412所示。于是，与从节目的开始(时间00:00)到时间T的时段一致的概要段被检索，如功能块414所表示的。同样地，将通过发送给媒体库202的指令230执行该检索。
在功能块410或414所示的任务结束之后，向站208的观看者显示如判定块416所示的选项。该选项通知观看者可进行显示或不显示(或其它方式的呈现)根据功能块410或414提供的概要段的选择。判定块418指示如果观看者不希望节目概要段被呈现，则图4的过程结束。否则，节目概要被呈现给观看者，如功能块420所示，随后过程结束。
虽然当节目概要可如上所述通过显示的文本语句被呈现，概要可以可选地以音频媒体形式被提供。例如，语句可被呈现为可听见的说出的单词。此外，如果节目是诸如足球赛之类的体育比赛，则比赛的错过部分的概要可同时使用视频和音频媒体被呈现。例如，概要可包括观看者错过的所有进球和回放(turnover)的片段序列。在观看者调到进行比赛的通道之后，该概要将被呈现，比如借助于分屏。
参照图5，其中示出可代替系统200中的媒体库202的媒体库502。代替DVR 206，媒体库502设置有远离观看站208并与例如因特网的网络(未示出)连接的服务器504。服务器504被用于通过各自通道1-N流传送媒体内容。响应来自控制计算机220的概要选择指令230，服务器504将配置成向观看站208流传送需要的节目概要信息。

Claims (16)

操作所述视频接收器以在第一时段期间显示通过所述通道的第一通道传送的视频内容；

所述视频接收器被操作以在紧接所述第二时段的第三时段期间显示通过所述第一通道传送的视频内容，并且在所述第三时段期间被进一步操作以将所述第二时段期间通过所述第一通道被传送的视频内容的概要呈现给所述用户。
3、根据权利要求1的方法，其中：
所述方法还包括选择性地存储指定信息，其中所述存储的信息足以使得对在任何部分的指定时段期间通过任何所述通道传送的任何视频内容产生概要。
4、根据权利要求3的方法，其中：
在所述指定时段期间由所述视频接收器访问的每个通道的标识和其中各通道的访问开始和结束的时间被输入指定数据库中；并且
所述数据库的内容被用来产生每个所述视频内容概要。
5、根据权利要求4的方法，其中：
当所述视频接收器从显示一个通道的内容被转换为显示不同通道的内容时，所述概要之一被产生。
6、根据权利要求4的方法，其中：
多个所述通道的每一个传送包含全部电视节目的内容，每个所述节目在时间上与所述指定时段相一致。
7、根据权利要求4的方法，其中：
所述阵列的每个通道被配置成传送视频内容和对应于该视频内容的音频内容，并且所述视频接收器包含多媒体接收器。
8、根据权利要求7的方法，其中：
每个所述概要借助于从包括至少音频、视频、图示和文本媒体形式的组选择的一种或多种媒体形式被呈现。
9、根据权利要求3的方法，其中：
所述视频接收器的所述用户被允许可选地选择所述视频内容概要的呈现或不呈现。
10、根据权利要求3的方法，其中：
所述指定信息选择性地结合DVR或远程服务器被存储。
11、一种装置，包括：
与多个数据传送通道连接的媒体库，所述媒体库适于接收并存储通过每个所述通道同时传送的视频内容；
观看站，其用来在第一时段期间接收并显示通过所述通道的第一通道传送的视频内容，还用来在紧接所述第一时段的第二时段期间接收并显示通过所述通道的第二通道传送的视频内容；以及
处理设备，其用来使在所述第一时段期间通过所述第二通道传送的视频内容的概要被传送给所述观看站，用于在所述第二时段向所述观看站的用户呈现。
12、根据权利要求11的装置，其中：
所述观看站设置有用于产生包含在所述指定时段期间通过所述观看站访问的每个通道的标识，以及各通道的访问开始和结束的时间的消息的部件；并且
所述处理设备适于接收所述消息，并且适于将接收的所述消息输入数据库，用于产生视频内容概要。
13、根据权利要求11的装置，其中：
所述媒体库适于提供指定的信息，其中所述存储的信息足以使得对在任何部分的指定时段期间通过任何所述通道传送的任何视频内容产生概要。
14、根据权利要求13的装置，其中：
所述媒体库选择性地包括DVR或服务器。
15、根据权利要求13的装置，其中：
当所述视频接收器从显示一个通道的内容被转换为显示不同通道的内容时，所述概要之一被产生。
16、根据权利要求13的装置，其中：
所述阵列的每个通道被配置成传送视频内容和对应于该视频内容的音频内容，并且所述观看站包含多媒体接收器，并且
每个所述概要借助于从包括至少音频、视频、图示、图形和文本媒体形式的组选择的一种或多种媒体形式被呈现。
