Der auf der beiliegenden Zeichnung dargestellte Filterapparat kennzeichnet sich gegenüber dem in der amerikanischen Patentschrift Nr.'553177 dargestellten dadurch, dafs das Filtermaterial, welches aus Sand, Kies oder ähnlichem fein- oder grobkörnigen Materiaj bestehen kann, von mit Schlitzen versehenen, über einander angebrachten ringförmigen Rinnen oder Platten aufgenommen wird, so dafs es sich lediglich durch sein Eigengewicht als eine aufrechtstehende Säule aus hohleny einzelnen Schüttkegeln darstellt, wovon der untere durch ein Becken gehalten wird, welches das Weiternachuntenfallen des Filtermaterials hindert und gleichzeitig ermöglicht, dafs durch ein in der Mitte angeordnetes Rohr, durch welches Druckwasser geleitet wird, das Filtermaterial gehoben, gewaschen und den Rinnen von neuem zugeführt wird: In dem Gehäuse M ist oben ein ringförmiges Becken U mit Ausfallschlitz angebracht. Unter diesem befinden sich die eigentlichen ringförmigen, mit Ausfallschlitz versehenen Rinnen (s. Fig. i, 3 und 5) bezw. die ringförmigen Scheiben G (s. Fig. 7). Durch den Boden des unterhalb derselben angeordneten Beckens W- ist eine Wasserstrahldüse D hindurchgeführt, die in ein Centralrohr R hineinragt, welches oben in das Becken U ausmündet.
