Description
Lubricating grease The German patent 1 040 164 relates to a lubricating grease consisting of a lubricating oil, e.g. B. a mineral lubricating oil which is thickened by a mixture of metal salts of acetic acid, at least one fatty acid of medium molecular weight and at least one fatty acid of high molecular weight, the salt mixture being anhydrous, the acids of medium molecular weight 7 to 10 carbon atoms and the acids of high molecular weight 14 to Contain 30 carbon atoms in the molecule, the molar ratio of acetic acid to the medium and high molecular weight acids is less than 5: 1 and the molar ratio of the high to medium molecular weight acids is in the range of 1: 1 to 10: 1.
In this grease, the high molecular weight acids can e.g. B. from myristic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid, oxystearic acids, ulic acid, arachidic acid or behenic acid. Natural fatty acids include fish oil acids, Tallow acids, coconut oil acids; these can be used immediately or after hydrogenation will. The acids of medium molecular weight can be made from unanthanic acid, caprylic acid, Pelargonic acid or capric acid. Caprylic and pelargonic acids are preferred. The medium molecular weight acids are usually treated by Natural products such as coconut oil. Pelargonic acid falls as a by-product of Azelaic acid by ozonolysis of ulic acid.
According to German Patent 1,148,343, lubricating greases are based on a mineral oil or synthetic oil containing a mixture of calcium salts or soaps of (I) unsubstituted, straight-chain, saturated carboxylic acids with 1 to 6 carbon atoms per molecule, (II) unsubstituted, saturated, optionally Monocarboxylic acids having methyl side chains with 7 to 12, in particular 7 to 10 carbon atoms per molecule and (11I) saturated or unsaturated monocarboxylic acids with no more than one double bond or monooxy-substituted monocarboxylic acids with more than 12 carbon atoms per molecule, at which the molar ratio of Acids III to acids 1I is less than 1: 1.

Acids IV are acids from coconut oil. The coconut oil, which is known as such can be used, contains a large proportion of fatty acids with about 10 to 14 carbon atoms per molecule. However, as is known, coconut oil also contains it certain acids that have as few as about 6 carbon atoms per molecule; and others Acids that have as many as about 18 carbon atoms per molecule. In addition to the acids mentioned are about 11 to 14 percent by weight glycerin in coconut oil contain. A typical coconut oil that can be used in the present invention is given below: saponification number .................... 260 iodine number ....................... ... 10 titer, ° C. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 23 The metal component of the salts and soaps is mainly calcium. However, it can be about 10 to about 15% (on the basis of chemical equivalents) of the calcium used replaced by barium will. The corresponding metal oxides, metal hydroxides and metal carbonates are this reacted with the acids.
In addition to the salts and soaps, the greases contain lead soaps. The lead soaps are made by reacting the acids with lead acetate and in particular Metallic lead (Pb0) formed.

As mineral oils are generally oils with an S.U.V. viscosity greater than 40 seconds, preferably from 60 to 6000 seconds, used at 38 ° C. Preferred is a mixture of one solvent refined naphthenic ules with a viscosity of 50 seconds at 38 ° C and a viscosity index of 60 with a naphthenic 01 (bright stock) with a viscosity of 130 to 140 seconds at 99'C. The final mix has a viscosity of about 70 to 99 ° C.
But also synthetic oils, e.g. B. Die Zusammensetzung des beanspruchten Schmierfettes ist folgende
The course of the reaction is determined by taking a sample the soap draws from the contactor. The alkalinity can be determined as a percentage by weight Ca0, about 0.5 to about 0.7 "/ o. If the alkalinity value is within this Area, the content is drained.
The contents of the contactor are transferred to an open stirred tank; the temperature drops to around 150-C due to moisture loss and the influence of atmospheric temperature. The contents of the open kettle are heated and stirred at 150 to 160 ° C. for 111.2 hours. 19.9 kg of the above-mentioned UI and 13.6 kg of naphthenic DI (bright stock) with a viscosity of 130 to 140 seconds (SSU) at 99 ° C. and a viscosity index of less than zero are then added. The boiler contents are then through a high pressure homogenizer, as it is z. B. in U.S. Patent 2,704,363 is recycled at about 210 kg / cm2 until the temperature drops to about 82 ° C. When the temperature is around 88`C, an amount of 2.35 kg of chlorinated sperm oil is added. The fulled penetration is adjusted to around 290 to 300 by adding a mineral oil mixture. The product is then filled into packs by the homogenizer under a pressure of 210 kg / cm22 at 82 ° C.
The following are results of lubricating greases according to the invention on a pilot plant: Timken OK load .... 20.4 kg color ................... Brown ASTM-Motormatic-Worker- Test after 100,000 strokes with '/ -, "holes ....... 312 to 330 oxidation stability, weight loss, ASTM bomb at 99 ° C....... 4.54 kg / 200 hours without Oxidation inhibitor 1.81 kg / 500 hours with 0.5% Ionol penetration .............. 290/300 separability, 100 hours, 0.52 kg / cm2 pressure at 25 ° C .. ............ .. 4.9% bleeding, 50 hours at 99 ° C, MIL-G-3278 ..... 3.50 / 0 drop point ....... ....... 260 ° C plus salt spray test MIL-G-10924 100 hours plus duration of effectiveness in a loaded Navy tester at 125 ° C ................. 1500 hours without Oxidation inhibitor 3500 hours with 0.5% ionol Apparent viscosity at -1.11 ° C ........... 860 at -17.78 ° C .......... 3300 It is note that a high pressure value of 20.4 kg together with excellent oxidation stability and long bearing lubrication Effectiveness is a result that has not previously been achieved in the manufacture of lubricating greases. High extreme pressure values have been obtained earlier, but a grease characterized by them did not have sufficient oxidative stability or long-term bearing lubricating effectiveness at high temperatures such as 93 ° C and above.
Similarly, there are good oxidative stability or long bearing lubrication effectiveness was achieved, but the high pressure value was absent or was so low that it can be neglected was. According to the invention, all three features are for the first time in one excellent balance.
Ergebnisse, die mit anderen erfindungsgemäßen Schmierfetten erhalten
sind, sind in der nachstehenden Tabelle angegeben. Hierbei wurden andere Hochdruckzusätze
benutzt.
The claimed greases are as multi-purpose car greases or as Textile machine lubricants or for lubricating machines in steel rolling mills, Suitable for paper mills and cement mills.
