Description

The invention relates to a flame-retardant material according to the preamble of claim 1. Known Until now, materials of this type could only be used in the form of Waste rubber particles are provided for their manufacture one started out from old rubber products that the criteria in their original form of use the flame retardancy met, such as. B. underground Conveyor belts.

On the other hand, especially those in large quantities are used material accruing automobile tires as a rule Rubber compounds made that meet the flame retardancy criteria not meet, so that used tire granules in are generally not flame retardant and not without further processed into flame-retardant products can. For example, processing of Waste rubber granulate obtained from vehicle tires is too heavy flammable moldings by molding a mixture this granulate and a flame retardant So far plastic that the plastic at Fire melted, causing the waste rubber granulate exposed and ignited.

The task therefore was to show a way to made from shredded waste rubber - especially from vehicle tires - a more inflammable granular material form from which flame retardant - in particular vibration-damping - layers, sheets, blocks, moldings u. let form.

According to the invention, this object is achieved by means of a waste rubber granulate solved that in the characterizing part of claim 1 Features specified. In the subclaims are preferred embodiments of the material according to the invention as well as advantageous processes for its preparation.

In the following the invention with reference to the Principle representations of the attached drawing explained:

Fig. 1 shows a single granule according to the present invention on a greatly enlarged scale, while Fig. 2 shows a somewhat less enlarged schematic representation of a section through a flame-retardant molded body which is formed from the material according to the invention, the inventive according to a flame-retardant Covered rubber particles are embedded in a matrix made of a flame-retardant polymer in particular.

As can be seen in FIG. 1, the individual particles 1 of the granular material according to the invention each consist of an old rubber core 2 and a flame-retardant casing 3 , this casing 3 being formed from a mixture of a crosslinking polymer and a flame-retardant substance. While the core 2 can consist of any normal or even highly flammable rubber and is preferably made from used vehicle tires, a mixture of a crosslinking polymer - and preferably a rubber - and a flame-retardant substance is used to form the flame-retardant casing 3 , whereby Magnesium hydroxide and aluminum hydroxide have proven to be particularly effective as flame retardant substances.

The procedure for producing the material according to the invention is preferably as follows:
Shredded waste rubber and the flame-retardant substance are intimately mixed with one another and an aqueous dispersion or emulsion of crosslinkable polymer components, and the mixing process is continued with the application of heat until the polymer components crosslink. Here, the individual waste rubber particles are enveloped by the crosslinked polymer without sticking together, so that a granular, free-flowing material is produced.

It is preferably used per 100 parts by weight Waste rubber particles each 20 to 35 parts by weight of the flamm inhibitory substance and the crosslinking polymer.

Flame-retardant products such as layers, sheets, blocks, moldings and the like can be made from the granular material according to the invention. generate, which can also have vibration-damping properties by - as the schematic diagram of FIG. 2 illustrates - the particles 1 consisting of the old rubber core 2 and the flame-retardant casing 3 mixed with a particularly flame-retardant elastomeric binder 4 and this mixture - u. U. with additives of flame-retardant or non-flammable fillers - to the desired products 5 forms.

It has been shown that the combustible waste rubber cores 2 of the material particles 1 according to the invention remain enclosed by their flame-retardant coating 3 even in the event of a fire, so that both the granulate-like material according to the invention and the products formed from it meet the relevant criteria of flame retardancy according to DIN 4102 can be.

Thus, the present invention does not just make one excellent new material created, but it will at the same time an effective contribution to the solution of the Disposal problems for used vehicle tires.
