Abstract

Moist fibrous material with 0.5%-25% resin and/or wax is comminuted. The feedstock is first compressed to a plug and internal pressure is raised to 60 bar. Rapid heating reaches 75 deg C, preferably 100 deg C. The process chamber is evacuated. Comminution follows, exerting shear stresses. Freshly-exposed surfaces, are pressure-coated with softened, partially-hydrated hydrophobic materials. The coating is rendered stable and homogenous by suitable machines, loosening up the product and drying to water content below 25%, preferably 15% or less.

Description

For the production of hydrophobic chip products from renewable and / or bio-derived raw materials that are pourable as well as light and well floating to be capable, it is required that the surfaces of the chips be complete and thinly coated with a waterproofing agent so that the water not into the inner pores of the plant product which are opened by the crushing te can penetrate. The shavings also have to be good to obtain Floatability should be dried to a low moisture content, so that in the A sufficiently large air or gas-filled pore volume inside the chips consists of the outer hydrophobic protective layer remains if the chips come into contact with the water for a long time.

The areas of application for the hydrophobicized chip products are expanding if the protective layer is so strong and resistant that its protective effect also long exposure to water, with increased mechanical stress and / or remains completely intact when heated. It is also in certain If a high affinity for oils and fats is desired. That sets assumes that the protective layer is very strong in itself, increased thermal stability possesses and a particularly firm and also stable under operating conditions permanent adhesive bond with the surface of the renewable raw materials trains.

The production of high quality hydrophobized and well buoyant Chipy products from renewable raw materials is difficult and / or procedurally complex. For this reason, it often fails to meet the diverse requirements of different applications.

One of the most important difficulties is the even distribution of Hydrophobing agents in a thin, stable and closed layer on the  large and strongly roughened surface of the re-shredded chips send raw materials. This difficulty is attempted to be avoided by the fact that low-viscosity oils or dispersions can be used for the hydrophobization that can be sprayed or are used as immersion liquid. In particular re in the spraying process, the risk remains that the coating we against the discrete distribution of drops and / or the immediate absorption of the trop fen remains imperfect due to the porous material. When spraying larger ones Amounts of water repellents or in the immersion process must be ge be calculated that the thin hydrophobic substances too deep inside re the chips penetrate, which affects their buoyancy or is completely lost. The unnecessarily used hydrophobic substances cause also high costs. Other disadvantages of the low viscosity hydrophobizing agents are their low adhesive and / or thermal strength. In addition, when used low-viscosity substances through the bulk and storage properties of the chips partial clumping impaired.

The quality of the protective layer with a hydrophobic effect can be in relation to Fe stability, thermal stability, resistance and adhesive behavior are significantly improved, if waxes and / or resins with high expansion are used as water repellents points of greater than or equal to 60 ° c are used. Erlan these substances but only at high temperatures, usually above 75 ° C, for the distribution necessary thin liquid. Have the hot liquid waxes and / or resins the disadvantage that they are difficult and with insufficiently disperser Distribution are sprayable. In addition, the substances mentioned have the disadvantage that they are distributed in the hot liquid state with the mostly hydrophilic and water-containing renewable raw materials only a moderately firm adhesion training union. This is mainly due to the fact that they are in the hot liquid conditions with temperatures of mostly close to or above 100 ° C at the con spray with the wet chips by the spontaneous formation of water vapor or lather strongly, so that a homogeneous and stable coating of the Chips is not possible. A previous drying of the chips to low what Serum content is out of the question, because then the hot liquid hydrophobization material would penetrate too deep into the internal volume of the chips.

As is well known, the surface of the chip products will not be complete even then dig coated with a thin layer of waterproofing agents if the Chips are sprayed with thin waxes or oils and the chips too are also set into a turbulent mixing movement. The named after Parts meet for example for the method specified in DE-DS 32 27 749 strike where a fibrous material be with a liquid or in solution sensitive hydrophobizing agent is impregnated.

Another known variant for the production of sprayable substances is made of viscous or solid hydrophobic substances at room temperature Dissolution with solvents. The main disadvantage of this method is that high effort for the recovery of the solvents. The use of Solvents is also because of the environmental impact and / or the substance compatibility in some cases only possible to a limited extent or no longer permitted.

In DE-OS 195 32 538 a method is proposed according to which the Her provision of stable, aqueous wax and resin suspensions even without Ein solvent and surfactants. In the German patent application DE 196 28 751.0 describes the use of these suspensions for water repellency described by vegetable fibers. The procedure is such that the Resin suspension free of surfactants with previously crushed and saturated with water Chips or fibers are mixed. The mix is then dried the resin particles supported by partial melt flow on the Chip surfaces are fixed. That at the start of drying the Chip cavities filling water and / or that during drying escaping steam prevents the resin from entering the pores. Of the The main disadvantage of the process is the high technological effort for the multi-stage process, consisting of crushing the renewable Raw materials on high fineness, the separate manufacture of resin or Wax suspensions by wet pulping with vibrating mills, the intensive mixing process and drying of the coated chips. Of furthermore, the resin and / or wax layer is not uniform and complete closed because the water repellents in the suspension are still particles available.

Patent application DE 196 28 751.0 also proposes that the Distribution and adhesion of the resin particles on the surface of the wood chips by jointly grinding resin and what has previously been chipped Wood is made with vibrating mills. The main disadvantages of this Process proposal are the high technological effort for the multi-stage Process, the additional shredding of the wood in the vibratory mill as well as the Reduction of the pore volume in the wood chips due to the longer lasting beating compaction in the vibratory mill. Despite the intense The degree of distribution of the resin remains in the form of particle nests during the grinding process unsatisfactory.

The object of the invention is to develop a simple method with little tech nological outlay, the production of hydrophobized, loosely pourable and easily floatable chip products from renewable or bio-derived raw materials and resins and waxes with high melting points greater than or equal to 60 ° C, on the other hand, and in which the melt flow of these hydrophobicizing materials, which become hot liquid only at high temperatures, is possible for the closed surface coating of the chips in a thin layer even if the renewable raw materials have a high water content and are clearly recognizable surface moist. Further objects of the invention are:

  • - Besonders fester Adhäsionsverbund zwischen den in dünner Schicht verteilten Hydrophobierungsstoffen und der Oberfläche der Späne.- Particularly firm adhesive bond between those distributed in a thin layer Hydrophobing agents and the surface of the chips.
  • - Hohe Resistenz der Hydrophobierungsschicht gegenüber mechanischer, chemi scher, biologischer und thermischer Beanspruchung.- High resistance of the waterproofing layer to mechanical, chemi shear, biological and thermal stress.
  • - Gewinnung eines losen, leichten, gut schütt- und lagerbaren spänigen Produk tes mit guter Schwimmfähigkeit.- Obtaining a loose, light, easily pourable and storable chip product tes with good buoyancy.
  • - Einsetzbar für viele unterschiedliche Anwendungsfälle.- Can be used for many different applications.

According to the invention the object is achieved in that the comminution of the moist renewable and / or bio-derived raw materials to chips and the Distribution of the water repellents in a thin and closed layer the surface of the chips is carried out simultaneously in a machine that the necessary process conditions according to the invention guaranteed. The necessary  Process conditions according to the invention consist in the fact that it is a machine must be in which the feed material ver very quickly to a dense plug is sealed, in which a high internal pressure of two in the active process space builds up to over 60 bar and the product immediately thanks to the intensive mechanical Exposure to a temperature of at least 75 ° C and preferably experiences from near or above 100 ° C and the comminution of the Gu dominant due to particularly intensive shear stress.

The renewable raw materials are in the form of coarse chips and Chips or used as coarse chopped material. Suitable raw materials are woods, different types of straw, peat, reeds, papers, cardboard, cardboard, Grasses, bagasse, hydrolysis lignin u. at the. . The relatively rough feed in shape of wood chips or chaff favored by the increased shredding wi the formation of the increased internal pressure in the machine and the Self-heating of the goods to high temperatures.

It is also important that the renewable raw materials have a high Moisture content and preferably slightly above the saturated water content is taken. The high water content favors under the conditions of the Er warming and the intense shear stress the crushing to the ge wanted thin and fibrous shavings. In addition, the high water content necessary so that the wood softens to form a plug the mass can build up the internal pressure in the machine. The water and the Water vapor generated is also used as an aid for the fast and continuous heating of the mixture of substances in the active comminution zone the machine needed. The water is known for its high Thermal conductivity and intensive heat transfer through steam diffusion.

Resins and / or waxes with a high level of heat are used for the hydrophobization points of greater than or equal to 60 ° C are used because of their chemical Composition and their high softening point are capable of one in to form solid, resistant and relatively thermostable protective layer, which too If the chips are stored for a long time, they do not tend to stick. They also have named substances also have a strongly hydrophobic effect if the  Layer thickness of the water repellents is very thin. Suitable products are e.g. B. natural resins and waxes, montan resin and montan wax or montan Products rich in wax and montane resin if they have the required high level of expansion chung point equal to or preferably greater than 60 ° C and at these or at even higher temperatures for a quick distribution in thin Obtain the required layer of thin liquid. The fabrics can be used alone or in suitable combination of substances in the form of fine-grained products, suspensions or melting, e.g. B. be used via a premix stage. Of the The proportion of the water repellents is shown solely by the necessary uses determined. It can be anywhere between about 0.5 to 25 mas se percent, based on the moist biomass, can be varied.

Under the above-mentioned process conditions according to the invention, this will otherwise be a problem Spraying and foaming the hot liquid only at high temperatures Resins and / or waxes in contact with the water of the damp renewable raw materials and with the resulting from the warming Water vapor is prevented because of the crushing and distribution processes run simultaneously in a room that is completely covered with a dense crop is filled in which there is also an internal overpressure and in which the Good particles within the dense plug of extremely intense shear stress movements and relative movements are exposed to one another. Under these Dense current conditions is the spraying and hindrance for the coating Foaming of the water repellents is not possible. The high mobility of the Hydrophobing agents becoming hot liquid, caused by the water and the Rather, steam is significantly amplified for the best possible distribution in thin layer can be used. The water or water vapor acts like a distribution and dispersing aid. Another important effect of ge called process conditions in the shredding and distribution room in that due to the high contact pressure in the boundary zones between the hot rivers water-repellent substances and the freshly formed wet chip top surfaces a very firm adhesive bandage is forced in an open System z. B. a mixer could not arise. The high contact pressure results resulting from the internal overpressure and the enormous mechanical stress during shear stress. Due to the shear stress, the  Water repellents distributed smeared. For the training of the fixed ad is also conducive to the fact that the hydrophobic Hydropho dosing agents under the above-mentioned and longer-acting pressure and tempera conditions in an aqueous medium in a special way and are also partially hydrated. At the same time, the water in the completely filled pores that the hot liquid and highly dispersed Hydrophobing agent penetrates too deeply inside the chips. In this way creates a thin, closed and particularly strong external protection layer of the water repellents used.

For the formation of the particularly strong adhesive bond between the late ne surface and the hydrophobing agents is also of crucial importance Meaning that the water repellents by the simultaneous course of Shredding and distribution processes always with freshly produced and special bondable chip surfaces come into contact. There is also air and gases are almost full due to the overpressure and the water vapor formation constantly displaced from the process room, so that there are none for Adhäsionsver bundle of negative gaseous adsorption layers on the chip surfaces can form. In addition, water repellents are selected that under the process conditions mentioned in the shredding and distribution machine as well as after drying and cooling with the renewable raw form a particularly strong adhesive bond.

For the implementation of the named process conditions, for example, the commercially available twin-screw shredding machines. With these The given goods are counter-rotating by machines arranged in parallel rotating and intermeshing screws compacted and with high Crushed shear forces. Due to the opposite rotation of the screws arise between the flanks of the screw shaft chambers with themselves changing volumes. The substances in these chambers are exposed to constantly changing pressure shear loads. Furthermore, the Good exit from the twin-screw fiberizing machine through targeted Adjustment of a throttle body so hampered that the build-up of an increased Internal pressure up to partially over 60 bar in the process space is possible. The raw  mixture of substances from the moist renewable raw materials and the named Water repellents are on average in the process room of this machine temperatures of at least 75 ° C and mostly to temperatures of heated to about 100 ° C. The temperatures in the micro-areas of fracture and the coating with the hydrophobizing agent exceed the value of 100 ° C clearly.

The renewable and / or bio-derived raw materials are among the ge mentioned conditions for the most part converted into thin-fibrous chips.

The discharge material from the twin-screw shredding machine is hot greasy and more compacted material with high surface moisture. It must - then dried and cooled. It must be prevented that the Clumping of the fibers is retained and solidified during drying because under these conditions the necessary uniform drying of all fibers to low water content is not possible and also the hydrophobization layers when shredding only too much after drying and cooling would be damaged. The clumped moist material must be before and / or during the Drying and, if necessary, after cooling using suitable loosening measures be gently transferred to a loosened up chip, because in the damp and / or warm condition the loosening process is still gentle and without inert damage to the hydrophobic protective layers is possible. The far Ren causes the all-round flow around the fiber surfaces through the drying a further homogenization of the hydrophobizing agents in thinner and closed layer.

A light, pourable and floatable good is obtained when most of the moisture except for a relative water content of min dried less than / equal to 25% and preferably less than / equal to 15% is so that a high gas-filled inside the chips and through the outside Protective cover against the ingress of water protects the pore volume. Also stel When drying, the water content only drops when the water content is low necessary high surface temperatures that affect the distribution of the hydro Phobierungsstoffe favor and the adhesive bond to the chips additionally  reinforce.

During the drying process, steam flows through the pores and through the use of high molecular weight resins and / or waxes prevents the Hy drophobing agents too deep in the released pore volume of the chips penetrate. The high softening point also prevents sticking at the Storage.

The process is characterized by low technological effort because the most important individual processes can be implemented simultaneously with one machine. The water repellents can even be used as fine-grained material be brought. The process offers the special process conditions in the shredding and distribution machine also has the advantage that the shares the hydrophobing agents, if required, in very wide ranges from about 0.5 to 25% can be varied and also the very high proportions of 10 to 25% based on the moist biomass, without difficulty evenly on the goods surfaces can be distributed. Furthermore, under the special Ver driving conditions achieved that even when using hydrophobing high hydrophobicity with high softening points greater than or equal to 60 ° C effects can be achieved.

Verwendung finden. The hydrophobicized chip product is used as an oil collector to remove Ge suitable floating oil films, as described in the invention message AZ 196 28 751.0 is described.

Fresh wood chips from branch and trunk wood with a moisture content of 40-50% and an edge length of about 4 to 10 cm are used for the purpose of further water saturation immersed in water. As a water repellent  Montanharz RH60 used that with the help of a beater mill on a grain of about Δd = 1/0 mm. The granular water repellent and the forest chips that are soaked up with water and surface wet a mixer in which a pre-distribution of the resin particles on the Wood chip surface takes place. The amount of montan resin is 10%, based on the amount of moistened wood chips. When defibrating the mixture in a MSEK type twin screw machine from the company Lehmann in Jocketa, self-heating occurs at around 95 ° C. Due to the high Temperature becomes both the shredding process and the Distribution of the melting Montanharz on the surface of the resulting Fibers favored. The twin screw shredding machine produces a hot one lumpy, sticky fiber mass, which then has a moisture content of 12% is dried. The fiber product is used to avoid clumping especially during drying e.g. B. with a built in the dryer Knife head loosened into individual fibers. During the main drying phase Due to the stickiness of the montan resin, a loose agglome forms again Council structure, which is gently dissolved with a mill after cooling. The Product is a loose, pourable material consisting of thin-fiber chips with a length of preferably 2 to 5 cm, the surface of which is uniform with Mon is coated in tan resin.
