Abstract
Description
The invention relates to an airbag arrangement for motor vehicles with we at least an inflatable airbag.
Such airbag arrangements are known and are used to drive to protect witnesses in an accident.
In US 5,513,877 an airbag arrangement with an airbag is wrote that in the folded state in the instrument panel is arranged. When inflated, the airbag lies against the Side of the instrument panel facing the vehicle interior. The The shape of the airbag when inflated is more than one length rer lines arranged within the airbag ben.
It is the problem (object) on which the invention is based, an airbag To create arrangement of the type mentioned, the air bag when Inflate in a defined way quickly and safely into a given one Protection position can be brought and in particular in the area of an instrument tentafel of the vehicle can be used so that the legs and esp especially the knees of the driver and / or passenger in the event of an accident are protected.
This object is achieved by the features of claim 1 and in particular in that the airbag for contact with a ge curved surface of a device is provided in a motor vehicle, the airbag consists of several tubular modules, de ren with the inflated airbag facing the curved surface Circumferential partial areas together form a contact surface of the airbag, de ren course at least approximately to the curved surface fits.
The modular design according to the invention allows the airbag in the to give any shape to the blown state. Through the hose The modules are shaped by inflating the airbag multi-part protective pad created by appropriate off formation of the connections between the modules optimally to the course can be adapted to the respective curved surface.
Dabei nimmt die Krümmung der Anlagefläche mit abnehmender Umfangslänge der Umfangsteilflächen zu.The course of the contact surface, that of the curved surface turned circumferential partial surfaces of the modules is formed by the dimensions solutions of these circumferential partial surfaces dependent in the circumferential direction. there takes the curvature of the contact surface with decreasing circumferential length the circumferential partial areas.
If there are two adjacent modules on linear, in the longitudinal direction device are connected to each other, then is the course of the contact surface due to the relative position of the connection set in space. For modules that are inflated have the same size and shape, are the linear connection junction points in a surface, the course of which is that of the curved Surface of the motor vehicle device corresponds. The circumferential lengths of the Circumferential partial areas can also, for. B. by the provision of flächi gene or several parallel linear connecting points len can be specified. Such connection points achieve that the modules are flat against each other when inflated. The Ratio between the circumferential lengths of the curved surface facing peripheral patches and the remaining peripheral patches the module can be specifically adjusted in this way.
It is preferred if the contact surface is such when the airbag is inflated is curved more than the curved surface of the device that the Air bag is pressed onto the curved surface. This ensures that the airbag optimally hugs the curved surface. If the airbag on concave surfaces that may be present in the motor vehicle is to be adjusted, then the contact surface can in principle blown air bag also less strong than the concave surface be crooked.
Connections between the tubular modules are preferred executed such that adjacent modules when the airbag is inflated lie flat against each other. As already mentioned above, this way the ratio between that of the curved surface turned and circumferential partial surface facing away from the curved surface Chen set. It also makes the curved one Surface facing peripheral partial surfaces formed contact surface of the air sacks more precisely adapted to the shape of the curved surface.
It is preferred if the modules are connected in a linear or strip-shaped manner are sewn together. The seams can look different Weil extend essentially over the entire module length.
A particularly preferred use of the airbag according to the invention Arrangement concerns the protection of the legs and especially the knees Driver and / or passenger of the vehicle. The airbag is in the folded state preferably at one of the footwell turned underside of the instrument panel mounted. At this point occurs the airbag arrangement does not interfere in appearance, which in particular is also advantageous from an aesthetic point of view. I'm inflated The condition of the airbag is then the instrument panel from whose underside is covered by the tubular modules that ent speaking the course of the side facing the vehicle interior the instrument panel lie side by side. Serves the airbag arrangement as a driver airbag, the inflated airbag preferably extends up to a steering column cover, preferably for this purpose one module two separate and spaced apart Hose sections includes the side of the when the air bag is inflated Steering column cover arranged and with an underlying, itself module extending immediately below the steering column cover are connected.
Preferred embodiments of the invention are also in the Unteran say, the description and the drawing.
Es zeigen: The invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the Drawing described. Show it:

Fig. 3 is a plan view of the arrangement of Fig. 2 with the airbag not yet fully inflated.
In Fig. 1, an instrument panel 13 of a motor vehicle is partially shown, which has a curved surface 14 facing the vehicle interior. Furthermore, a steering wheel 48 , a steering column cladding 38 and, in part, a leg of a driver 46 are shown in FIG. 1. A windshield 36 of the vehicle is indicated by a dashed line.
On an underside 34 of the instrument panel 13 facing the footwell, an airbag arrangement according to the invention is provided, which is partially integrated into the instrument panel 13 . The airbag arrangement comprises a housing 44 in which a gas generator 32 for inflating an airbag 12 is arranged. The airbag 12 is shown in the fully inflated state and assuming its predetermined protective position.
The airbag 12 has three tubular modules 16 in the inflated state, which run parallel to each other in the horizontal direction transverse to the direction of travel of the vehicle. Furthermore, the airbag 12 comprises a section 56 which is arranged within the housing 44 and is connected in terms of flow technology to the gas generator 32 . The length of the housing 44 and thus from the section 56 corresponds to the length of the tubular modules 16th Insofar, the airbag section 56 is also an at least approximately tubular airbag module, which, however, in contrast to the modules 16, is arranged within the housing 44 . The airbag section 56 consists of two subsections sewn together at two connecting points 26 , which by means of backflow-inhibiting devices 28 z. B. are fluidly connected to one another in the form of one-way or check valves. The devices 28 and Verbindungsstel len 26 are only indicated schematically in Fig. 1.
The modules 16 of the airbag 12 are sewn to one another at connection points 26, also indicated only schematically, in such a way that in the illustrated inflated state of the airbag 12 adjacent modules 16 lie flat against one another. The same applies to the connection between the lower module 16 in FIG. 1 and the section 56 of the airbag 12 arranged in the housing 44 . The junctions 26 can NEN extend over the entire length of the modules 16 . However, it is also possible to provide interrupted connection points 26 in the longitudinal direction of the modules 16 .
The connection points 26 between the modules 16 , 56 can each be formed by a plurality of parallel linear seams or by a flat, strip-shaped seam.
By connecting the modules 16 to each other and the lower module 16 with the section 56 in the manner according to the invention, the airbag 12 is self-supporting and the shape of the airbag 12 is fixed in the inflated state. The airbag 12 is given dimensional stability in the inflated state by the modules 16 , 56 lying flat against one another. When inflated, the airbag 12 therefore endeavors to assume its shape and position in space, which is determined by the manner in which the connection points 26 are formed .
By the joints 26 , the circumferential lengths of the ge curved surface 14 facing circumferential partial surfaces 22 , 23 , 24 of the module 16 are fixed. Such as B. in each case in Fig. 1 middle module 16 and the lower module 16 can be seen, the each of the curved surface 14 facing peripheral partial surface 23 or 22 in the circumferential direction of the respective module 16 is shorter than the remaining peripheral partial surface. This results in the curvature of the curved surface 14 accordingly speaking of the airbag 12 or of its peripheral surface 22 , 23 , 24 formed by the contact surface.
Consequently, according to the invention, by appropriately connecting or sewing the modules 16 , 56 , that is to say by means of a suitable arrangement and design of the connection points 26 , the airbag 12 can be targeted to the particular circumstances in the vehicle - in the exemplary embodiment shown in FIG. 1 to the instrument panel 13 - Be adjusted that in the inflated state, the ge of the peripheral partial surfaces 22 , 23 , 24 formed contact surface is adapted to the shape of the curved surface 14 of the instrument panel 13 .
At the level of the legs of the driver 46 , the instrument panel 13 is fully continuously padded by the tubular modules 16 of the airbag 12 lying against one another. In the exemplary embodiment of FIG. 1, the lower module 16 is arranged at the level of the shins 54 of the driver, while the middle module 16 extends approximately at the level of the knees 52 of the driver 46 .
The upper module 16 comprises two hose sections located in the inflated state to the side of the steering column cover 38 , of which the hose section 42 a on the left in the direction of travel is shown in FIG. 1. The airbag arrangement according to the invention can also be used on the passenger side of a vehicle. Then all modules 16 can be executed continuously in the longitudinal direction.
The arrangement of the modules 16 shown and in particular the provision of the upper module 16 ensures that the knees 52 of persons with long legs are also protected by the airbag 12 in the event of an accident.
The airbag 12 extends in the inflated state starting from the bottom 34 of the instrument panel 13 first against the direction of travel in the direction of the seat area of the driver 46 , then around a lower edge 58 of the instrument panel 13 and then the course of the curved surface 14 of the instrument panel 13 fol lowing upwards in the direction of the windshield 36 up to the level of the steering column cover 38 .
The inflated airbag 12 thus surrounds the instrument panel 13 with a precise contour.
In order to ensure optimum protection for the driver 46 transversely to the direction of travel, the two lower tubular modules 16 each extend over the entire width of the section of the instrument panel 13 facing the driver's seating area 46 .
The modules 16 with each other are at the junctions 26 by only schematically indicated in Fig. 1 reverse flow inhibiting devices 28 z. B. in the form of one-way or Rückschlagventi len fluidically connected. Devices 28 of this type inhibit or restrict or prevent a gas flow back towards the gas generator 32 during and after inflation of the airbag 12 . As a result, only a comparatively low filling pressure needs to be provided by the gas generator 32 .
A plurality of backflow-inhibiting devices 28 spaced apart in the longitudinal direction are preferably provided between two modules 16 , 56 .
The housing 44 could also be integrated at another point in the instrument panel 13 , for. B. at the level of the air bag module 16 in FIG. 1. In this case the gas generator 32 would e.g. B. connected to the middle module 16 so that the adjacent modules 16 are inflated via the middle module 16 . Here, the airbag 12 would thus unfold starting from an intermediate module 16 both upwards and downwards in such a way that it bears against the curved surface 14 in the inflated state.
In FIGS. 2 and 3, another embodiment of an inventive SEN airbag arrangement is shown which is also arranged on the driver's side of an instrument panel 13. The tubular modules 16 in this exemplary embodiment have a pillow-like shape. To catch partial areas 22 , 23 , 24 of the modules 16 form a contact surface, the course of which corresponds to that of the curved surface 14 of the instrument panel 13 , that is, in this embodiment, the instrument panel 13 is encompassed by the inflated airbag 12 with a precise contour.
As accelerator as Figs. 2 and 3, the air bag 12 is accommodated in folded state in egg nem below the instrument panel 13 arranged housing 44 under which is partly integrated into the instrument panel 13 also in the variant of the embodiment of FIG. 1,. The gas generator (not shown in FIG. 2) is arranged in an area of the housing 44 located within the instrument panel 13 .
As can be seen in particular from the top view of FIG. 3, the modules 16 are not connected to one another over their entire length, but rather the connection points 26 end in front of the end faces of the modules 16 .
The top view of FIG. 3 shows in particular the division of the upper tubular module 16 into two tube sections 42 a, 42 b, which are arranged at a distance from one another on a continuous module 16 corresponding to the dimensions of the steering column cover 38 , the steering column cover 38 being located centrally between the hose sections 42 a, 42 b is arranged.
In Fig. 3 the airbag 12 is shown in a partially inflated state in which the modules 16 have not yet reached their final protective position. The comparison with the fully inflated state of the airbag 12 shown in FIG. 2 shows that the middle module 16 in the final protective position extends directly below the steering column cover 38 , so that the two hose sections 42 a, 42 b are at the height of the steering column cover 38 are located. The Lenksäu lenverelung 38 is consequently completely padded laterally and below from the blown airbag 12 .
According to the invention the joints 26 may len between the modu 16 and between a disposed in the housing 44 Luftsackab section 56 and the adjacent module 16 so constructed that the bearing surface formed by the peripheral part surfaces 22, 23, 24 curved in on blown and the unaffected air bag 12 more is as the curved surface 14 of the instrument panel 13 . Since the inflated airbag 12 strives to occupy the position indicated by the connection points 26 in space, this greater curvature ensures that the airbag is pressed against the curved surface 14 and thus optimal adaptation of the airbag 12 to the curved surface 14 is guaranteed.
