Abstract

Scalp-care preparations contain as active substance at least one uronic acid (pref. glucuronic acid, esp. D-glucuronic acid, or glucuronic acid gamma-lactone) in a carrier material which is pharmaceutically tolerable when applied externally. The concentration of uronic acid in the preparations is pref. 0.1-10 g (esp. 0.5-5 g) per 100 ml carrier material when the carrier material is a liquid. The preparations are useful as cosmetic or therapeutic/prophylactic medicinal agents for application to the scalp. They prevent itching of the scalp and excessive secretion by the scalp sebaceous glands, and diminish dandruff, hair-loss and greying of the hair. The individual hairs are strengthened, hair growth is promoted, and the air takes on a voluminous appearance.
