Abstract

The invention relates to an optical absorption filter for the absorption of in particular ultra-violet radiation in a band width of 280-320 nm, comprising only one active radiation-absorbing substance having absorption in this band, and one or two consistency-determining support substances. It was provided according to the invention that the radiation-absorbing active substance has been extracted from a thin layer of alpha-tocopherol, preferably DL-alpha-tocopherol, and that the support substance is an oil or an alcohol.

Description

The invention relates to an optical absorption filter, the Radiation in the wavelength band from 280 to 320 nm absorbed. Optical bandpass filters or bandstop belong to this area filter. These can either be of the interference type or from the Ab be sorption type. Optical absorption filters have opposite Interference filters generally have the advantage that their Ab sorption or pass band over the wavelength scale even then does not step out when the incidence of light is oblique, that is not perpendicular to the filter surface.

A generally very important property in absorption filter is the ratio between the transmission of the Filters in its passband and the transmission of the filter in his barrier tape. This ratio must be as large as possible so that no "wrong" type of radiation passes through. Hereinafter is this ratio the PS ratio (pass-lock ratio = Pass-blocking ratio). A good absorb tion filter can have a horsepower ratio of more than ten thousand to have.

Another property of the filter is its geometric Dimension, its environmental compatibility, its price as well as its compactness in construction. Another advantage can be are that the filter absorb only one the component must exist.

There is a large number in the visible wavelength band today of absorption filters on the market. In the infrared range it’s not quite as much, and even less in the ultraviolet band. Especially in the area of 220 to 350 nanometers there are almost no commercially available filters on the market.

For example, the mercury line with a wavelength of 245 nm To be able to isolate, a filter is required, which in this case rich has transmission or permeability, however blocks the radiation of longer or shorter wavelengths. A particular problem is the radiation with larger Wavelength, for example from 280 nm upwards to absorb ren.

It is also advantageous in another context to use a material to be found in the wavelength range from 280 to 320 nm Lich absorbed. This applies, for example, to filters for the Fluorescence measurement and for so-called sunscreens, in which latter case one uses filters for the absorption of the for the skin most need sun rays, that is with a wavelength of less than 320 nm.

For use with a sunscreen preparation, the ultraviolet solar radiation that hits the earth's surface during the day dawn reached, in the UVA type (320-400 nm) and the UVB Type (290-320 nm) is divided. Radiation with shorter Wavelength (UVC type) is completely due to the ozone content blocked off from the atmosphere and does not reach the earth's surface.

In previous years one was always careful to avoid the danger of To avoid developing skin cancer, which can then occur when the skin is exposed to excessive sunlight. The most dangerous radiation for the skin is the short-wave, that is the UVB radiation, since this is the DNA of the skin cells  can harm, which can gradually lead to the development of cancer can. The brown color that follows the sunburn and the is based on the formation of melanin in the skin if, if the skin only contains the less dangerous UVA Exposed to radiation.

For this reason, people are trying to use a new type of sunscreen to create the UVB rays to a greater extent than since absorbed here. This is usually achieved by: expediently several chemical substances together mixed, which have a strong absorption, namely before all that radiation with a wavelength in the interval of 290 to 310 nanometers.

There is a measure of the effectiveness of sun protection products in the so-called sun protection factor. This number, which in the Rule between 2 and 30 indicates one by how many times longer periods of time in the sun with angry sun protective preparation can bring up to a certain reddening of the skin arises, in relation to that state, that no protection cream or preparation is applied.

One of the ones that occur with the preparations available today The problem is that the UVB absorption Radiation active substances are relatively complex chemical Are substances that are completely new. There is usually an allergy tests or toxicity tests; nevertheless it is also possible that these substances in the long run when in contact with the skin are beneficial. This can be especially true when above average sensitive skin.

An important factor is that the number of components involved in such a preparation is as small as possible. The main reason for this is that the substances involved can react with each other when exposed to heat and radiation. The number of possible reactions depends on the number of components involved and the ratio S = 2 n -1. For example, if three different substances are involved, then basically seven different reactions can take place and form an equal number of new substances. Of course, this is especially true when the preparation is exposed to radiation, in particular high-energy UV radiation. If the original substance has thus been tested and, according to this test, identified as harmless, the newly formed reaction product can nevertheless prove to be less good.

In typical sun protection products there are five to ten un same substances, which are 30 to 1000 different conceivable can perform chemical reactions with each other. A sun protectant that contains as few components as possible therefore desirable. The compos involved are the best therefore simple and as natural as possible, that is, such Type that contains the skin itself or that is tissue-friendly are known.

The invention is therefore based on the object of an optical To create absorption type filters that have a strong optical Has absorption in the range of 280 to 310 nanometers and so even in a thin layer of ten to one hundred µm has strong absorption in the band mentioned. The absorbent Substance does not need to be water-soluble and can therefore be completely non-toxic.

This object is characterized by the invention resolved characteristics of the main claim. Here you go assume that the optical absorption filter pre radiation absorbed and in all in the range of 280 to 320 nanometers this band has only one radiation absorbing medium,  together with one or two consistency-promoting carrier sub punch. According to the invention, this is radiation-absorbing Medium from Alphatocopherol, preferably from DL-Alphatoko pherol; the vehicle consists of any oil or one Alcohol. Accordingly, the carrier substance fulfills, among other things, that Function that the tocopherol does not solidify and therefore not crystallized. When used in the sun this results in a good consistency of the sunscreen and makes this easy liquid and spreadable on the skin.

According to the invention, the carrier substance can be, for example, from a peanut oil that is stable and good optical or has physiological properties. Alternatively, ethylal use alcohol. In this case, the carrier evaporates when used in sunscreen very quickly and that pure alpha tocopherol remains on the skin, which a absolute minimum of possible secondary chemical reactions consequence and thus an extremely low risk of forming one new unknown substance. In addition, the peanut oil is extreme stable and hardly reacts with any substance at so low like the temperatures that occur here.

The amount of alpha tocopherol need not exceed 5% in order to maintain the desired filter properties. The preferred concentration of alphatocopherol is between 10% and 70%. Alphatocopherol is easily soluble in both oil and alcohol, but not in water. As a result, the filter used in the sun does not disappear when bathing or showering or when the user sweats, which is why it remains effective over a long period of time and is therefore extensive and inexpensive. If the filter is used as an optical component, this is advantageous in that it is introduced as a thin layer between two optical flat disks. These discs can be made of quartz, which has good UV transmission, using the passband of the filter (see Fig. 1). The disks can also themselves be of the optical absorption filter type and, for example, consist of color filters in a quartz carrier or a monocrystalline material such as nickel or cobalt sulfate. With such a combination, a combined optical absorption filter with a wider stop band can be obtained. The filter can possibly also be supplemented by an interference layer for the same purpose.

Darin ist im einzelnen folgendes dargestellt:The invention is explained in more detail with reference to the drawing. In this the following is shown in detail:

Fig. 1 veranschaulicht die Durchlässigkeitseigenschaften einer dünnen Schicht Alphatokopherol; Figure 1 illustrates the permeability properties of a thin layer of alpha tocopherol;

Fig. 2 zeigt in schematischer Darstellung ein komplettes Filter in Gestalt einer optischen Komponente; Fig. 2 shows a schematic representation of a complete filter in the form of an optical component;

Fig. 3 finally illustrates the filter as a sun protection filter.

In Fig. 1, the absorption at 10 microns (curve A ) and 100 microns (curve B ) thick layer of pure DL-Alphatocopherol is Darge, as a function of wavelength. As you can see, the scale is linear and the absorption is extraordinarily large in the range from 290 to 310 nm.

Fig. 2 shows a complete optical filter according to the invention. The alpha tocopherol is introduced in a thin layer 1 between two disks 2 , 3 . These discs are, for example, inherent optical absorption filters and have the task, in particular in particular of a task of alphatocopherol up to a layer 1 of the same thickness, of possibly expanding the stop band of the complete filter. It is also possible to provide the surfaces of the panes 2 , 3 , which either face the thin layer 1 or the air, with an interferential layer 14, 15 or 4, 5, which also the barrier band of the entire filter elevated. If necessary, it is conceivable that the disks are provided with a suitable border around their outer edges, so that the alpha tocopherol remains in the thin layer. This encapsulation is not shown.

So that the filter works even at lower temperatures does not lose, the alpha tocopherol is mixed, either with an oil or an alcohol. However, this does not affect the absorption properties of alphatocopherol.

In Fig. 3, the optical absorption filter according to the invention is shown as a sunscreen. Here, alpha-tocopherol with its carrier substance is applied to a skin 7 , a thin layer 6 being formed on the skin. If the carrier substance is ethyl alcohol, it evaporates within a few minutes, leaving an even and stable layer of alpha-tocopherol. If the carrier substance consists of one or possibly two oils, this remains together with the alpha tocopherol.

The carrier substance has no optical filter properties, that is, in terms of its absorbency, in terms of UVB radiation. The sun protection properties of the filter according to The invention has been clinically tested and has been blamed proven. Alphatocopherol, also known as Vitamin E, is also known to build lipids on the skin; it has proven to be good in treating fire damage. No adverse effects have come to light, either  once when consuming large amounts. By applying a tear substance that either evaporates quickly or in the form of a Stable oil like peanut oil is present in all forms minimized secondary chemical reactions.

It is within the scope of the invention that when used in Sunscreen small amounts of any essential oil adds a smell typical of the product to the product to rent.
