Abstract
Description
The invention relates to an electronic device according to the in the preamble of claim 1 described type. In particular, the invention relates to a electronic device into which a card-like memory can be inserted or inserted in which several application programs are stored.
An electronic device with a conventional device is already known Memory can be combined into one application program located. Such a device is relatively cumbersome to use. So must different memories available for different application programs be and connected to the electronic device depending on the selection. This disadvantage can not be particularly in the case of devices in pocket size Be bought because the number of applications in several applications external storage to be carried would be relatively high.
The invention has for its object the electronic device of the beginning mentioned type so that external storage with it in a simple manner can be connected that carry several application programs.
The solution to the problem is in the characterizing part of claim 1 specified. Advantageous embodiments of the invention are the subclaims refer to.
An electronic device according to the invention is characterized by
a central processor unit for controlling the operation of the device,
- a connecting device,
an external memory device for storing application programs, which can be coupled to the connection device for the electrical connection to the electronic device, and
- A detector device which decides whether the external storage device is coupled with its front side upwards or downwards to the connection device, so that a specific application program can be read and executed by the central processor unit as a function of a detector signal from the detector device.
The external storage device is preferably designed as a memory card. On both sides of the external storage device can be different Types of key symbols must be printed, i.e. on the two opposite one another Surfaces of the memory card. The electronic device points further advantageously a transparent window area, through which then the button icons are visible when the external storage device located inside the device.
If the memory card is inserted into the electronic device, there is only one their surfaces visible through the transparent window area through. One of the button symbols on the visible surface of the memory card The assigned application program can then be read out and processed be, namely by an existing in the body of the electronic device central processor unit. You can underneath the respective key symbols there are key switches, so that when a key switch is actuated Start signal for reading the application program can be delivered. Becomes the memory card, however, inserted into the electronic device so that their other surface or back through the transparent window area becomes visible, an application program assigned to this rear side becomes read out or processed. There are also button symbols on the back printed under which key switches are located. With appropriate actuation A suitable key is used to read out and process the Program. Of course, the triggering process of the application program and the execution of this program immediately after plugging in the memory card into the electronic device without a corresponding Key must be pressed.
Since several application programs are stored on one memory card, compared to conventional electronic devices, the number of required memory cards with the same number of application programs. Of course, more than two application programs can be used on one Memory card. In this case, the two surfaces are the Memory card printed with several groups of key symbols or equipped with several groups of corresponding key switches. Contact strips to connect to internal memories within the memory card for example on a card edge on opposite card surfaces are located. Such contact strips can also on opposite Card edges and both surfaces of the memory card, respectively that, for example, four application programs can be stored in one card. Each after inserting the memory card into the electronic device, one becomes of these application programs automatically selected and through the electronic Device processed. The selection and program execution can, for example also done by pressing a certain type of button symbols is detected, each with a type or a group of key symbols is assigned to an application program.
The electronic device can, for example, be an electronic calculator, an electronic notebook or the like. The connecting device is designed as a connector within the electronic device and comes in contact with only one terminal strip of the memory card, whereby a certain application program is assigned to this terminal block according to the location of the memory card in the electronic device based on the Key symbols present on the memory card are recognized by a user can be.

In FIG. 5 is a cross-section of the electronic device is shown according to the invention that contains the memory card 2 in its interior. If the memory card 2 is located within a housing 11 of the electronic device 1 , the respective connections of the connection groups 8 or 9 are electrically connected to contact connections 15 of the electronic device 1 . In this case, the connections of the connection group 8 are connected to the contact connections 15 , while the connections of the connection group 9 are not acted upon by them.
A block diagram of the electronic device 1 combined with the memory card 2 is shown in FIG. 1. The device 1 contains a central processor unit 5 (CPU) which serves to control the device 1 , a display device 3 for displaying information to be processed or processed, a driver circuit 12 for controlling the display device 3 , the transparent window area 4 , a ROM 1 and a RAM 14 for controlling the input / output operations, which are not controlled by the application program, and the contact connections 15 , which can be connected to the memory card 2 or its connection groups 8, 9 . As already explained in connection with FIG. 3, the memory card 2 contains connection terminals 8 on its front side and connection terminals 9 on its rear side, which can each be connected to the electronic device 1 or its contact connections 15 , the ROM 24 and the RAM 25 . Two different types of application programs are stored in the ROM 24 and can be executed with the aid of the CPU 5 , which is located in the basic housing of the device 1 , so that the application programs are read out in accordance with the address information determined by the CPU 5 . An application program within the ROM 24 is assigned to the key symbols on the front of the memory card, while another application program within the ROM 24 is assigned to the key symbols on the back of the memory card 2 . Even if the same address information is supplied to the front ports 8 and the rear ports 9 , the ROM 24 can distinguish the different address types and deliver the desired application program. Data for the application programs are stored in the RAM 25 and are in turn stored in the ROM 25 . The memory RAM 24 is connected to a battery for the purpose of energy supply, for example in order to be able to back up data.
If the memory card 24 is inserted into the base body of the device with its front upward, then the connections 8 come into contact with the contact connections 15 of the device 1 . A key input via the front key symbols through the transparent window area 4 enables an application program to be read out from the ROM 24 in accordance with the front key symbols, the address being selected by the CPU 5 . The CPU 5 then executes this application program. If, on the other hand, the memory card 2 is inserted into the body of the device 1 with its rear side facing upward, the connections 9 come into contact with the contact connections 15 . In this case, key entries can be made via the rear key symbols of the memory card 2 . When the key input is carried out, the CPU 5 selects an address so that different addresses in the ROM 24 can be selected. In this case, the application program is read out, which is assigned to the rear button symbols. The CPU 5 then executes this read application program. The data stored in RAM 25 can be used for both application programs.
FIGS. 6 and 7 show examples of key symbols on the front and on the back of the memory card 2. Printed on the front are key symbols associated with a storage mode that are used when data is to be entered and stored in RAM 25 . On the other hand, button symbols are printed on the back of the memory card 2 , which are assigned to a reading mode and are used when data are to be read out and imaged.
Fig. 8 shows a block diagram of the memory card 2. Depending on a first state, in which the front connections 8 are connected to the device 1 , or in dependence on a second state, in which the rear connections 9 are connected to the device, the address information to be supplied to the ROM 24 is different, even if the CPU 5 accesses the same address. Therefore, when the memory card 2 is inserted face up, the application program is automatically selected according to the memory mode and read out from the ROM 24 to be executed. If, on the other hand, the memory card 2 is inserted face down into the device 1 so that the rear side of the memory card 2 can be seen through the transparent window area 4 , the application program is automatically selected with respect to the reading mode and read out from the ROM 24 in order to be executed to become. The same address information is selected from the RAM 25 , regardless of whether the front or the back of the memory card 2 is visible, so that the data read in during the memory mode can be output directly in the read mode. In this way, it is possible to recognize the front or the back of the memory card 2 . A user can easily determine the selection of the storage mode or the reading mode.
