Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a Pressure swing adsorption system according to the generic term of claim 1. Such systems are such. B. used to oxygenate air for to provide medical purposes.
The functioning of a typical such system is the following: Air compressed by a compressor enters through Inlet valve into the inlet end of a first of two adsorption columns filled with molecular sieve. These Adsorption column is in your Production phase. The molecular sieve adsorbs Nitrogen stronger than oxygen and therefore leaves an oxygen enriched airflow that Product gas, the first adsorption column on your Outlet end. The gas passes through a check valve via a common for both adsorption columns Product gas line into a gas tank and from there to Consumer.
A small part of the product gas passes through a Flushing nozzle from the outlet of the first adsorption column to Exit of the second adsorption column. This second Adsorption column is in your Regeneration phase, and is over at its inlet end a vent valve connected to the environment. By the lowered compared to the production phase Pressure and due to the oxygen-rich purge flow from The previously adsorbed nitrogen ends at the outlet expelled.
The production phase of the first adsorption column will continue until this Adsorption column is saturated with nitrogen. Then is opened by briefly opening a Pressure compensation valve, which the two outlet ends of the Adsorption columns shorts together Pressure equalization between the adsorption columns produced. Then by switching the valves on the second ends of the adsorption columns Brought the adsorption column into its production phase, while the first adsorption column is now in their Regeneration phase is coming. By the use of Check valves between the outlet ends of the Adsorption columns and the common Product gas line is a backflow of gas from the Avoided gas tank in one of the adsorption columns. The Pressure in the gas tank increases with the pressure in your Production phase at the adsorption column, a maximum value at the end of the production phase reached. During the subsequent pressure equalization phase the pressure in the adsorption column drops very quickly off, the associated check valve closes consequently. But this is the delivery of Product gas in the gas tank is interrupted until the second adsorption column at its outlet end has built up a pressure that the pressure in the gas tank exceeds. At that moment the associated one opens Check valve and the delivery of product gas in the gas tank resumes.
Due to the interruption in the delivery of Product gas and the increase in pressure by Maximum value of the pressure in the adsorber columns comes there are strong pressure fluctuations in the gas tank.
One tries to overcome this disadvantage in EP 01 76 393 described pressure swing adsorption system avoid. Here the check valves are through Chokes have been replaced. The task of otherwise separate attached purge gas nozzle is also from these chokes accepted. The installation of the chokes has the consequence that the pressure in the gas tank does not reach the maximum value in the adsorption columns rises. This in turn has Consequence that even during the pressure equalization phase Pressure in the gas tank even lower than in the Adsorption columns and is therefore continuous Product gas flows into the gas tank. The pressure in the gas tank fluctuates slightly around an average.
Since both adsorption columns alternate in Production and regeneration phase must work the two associated chokes have the same dimensions their size has to be relatively high Product gas flow can be coordinated. This results in but as a disadvantage that due to the in Regeneration phase located adsorption column belonging throttle a similarly large gas flow as Purge gas flow flows out as through the product gas line got into the gas tank. To flush the Adsorption column would be a very small one Purge gas flow sufficient. Around half of the Product gas flow is thus wasted. As a result, the entire system must be dimensioned larger be to a predetermined product gas flow on To achieve the output of the gas tank.
The object of the present invention is that by the use of chokes achieved an advantage to use continuous delivery of product gas and at the same time the disadvantage of one by one excessive purge gas flow Avoid wasting product gas.
The object is achieved in that instead of simple chokes controls that are used are formed from throttle devices, which in the Flow direction from the outlet end of the associated one Adsorption column for the common product gas line have a lower flow resistance than in the opposite direction.
The advantage of the invention is that it is under Maintaining through the use of chokes achieved advantages is possible, the purge gas flow limit the necessary amount, and thus product gas save. This results in a compared to the stand technology significantly higher system efficiency. The pressure level in the gas tank is higher overall. At the system can achieve the same performance be dimensioned.
That in the characterizing part of the main claim mentioned control element can in principle from known Elements. It can be build from a series connection of a Check valves and a first throttle and one connected in parallel to this series connection, for the second throttle dimensioned the purge gas flow. The product gas flow, which is in the opening direction of the Check valve flows, flows through the Parallel connection of the first and second choke, the Flushing current flowing in the opposite direction only flows through the second throttle.
An advantageous development of the control element is the second, for the purge gas flow dimensioned throttle in the closing element of the Integrate check valve. It could be here z. B. a check valve with a pierced Act locking cone. That closes in the closing direction Check valve not hermetically sealed, but reduces the gas flow to that as a purge gas flow required dimension. With the check valve is one for throttle dimensioned the product gas flow in series switched.
In a further execution of the control element completely without a check valve. The Cross-sectional profile of an annular or slit-shaped Cover made of an elastic material is like this trained that the opening of the aperture in the a flow direction to a relatively large one Opening while expanding in the opposite flow direction to a relative small opening narrowed. That can e.g. B. thereby happen that the aperture at rest the little Has opening and only in one Direction of flow through the forces that flowing gas creates the edges of the aperture be bent open, which widens the opening. This is in the opposite flow direction Bending the edges by appropriate Reinforcements or support elements are not possible.
As a further embodiment of the control element a plate closing the gas flow path is conceivable, the different openings for the gas passage and a membrane partially attached on one side having. One of these openings is in both Flow directions consistently, it provides for the throttle gas flow dimensioned throttle remaining openings are in one flow direction consistently and together with the before mentioned opening the for the product gas stream dimensioned throttle. In the opposite Flow direction closes the one-sided on the Membrane attached plate all openings except for the basically a universal one.
It is also possible to control the Property of the directional Flow resistance through a special to provide fluidic design. A yourself conically narrowing aperture, which is the closest Place with perpendicular to the direction of flow extending wall is one Design. In one direction of flow the Gas flow in front of a slowly narrowing tube and this can happen without much vortex formation, the flow resistance is relatively low. In the The gas flow impinges on the opposite direction wall of the orifice facing the direction of flow. A strong vortex formation and one from it resulting high flow resistance are the Episode.
The invention is explained using an example. Fig. 1 of the drawing shows the structure of the pressure swing adsorption system. Figs. 2 to 6 show various embodiments of the control element.
This example is a Pressure swing adsorption system with two Adsorption columns for enriching air with Oxygen for medical purposes. The invention leaves the same for systems with more than two Use adsorption columns.
The mode of operation is as follows: air is compressed by a compressor ( 1 ) and passes via an inlet valve ( 2 ) into the inlet end ( 3 ) of a first adsorption column ( 4 ) in its production phase. The adsorption columns ( 4 , 5 ) are filled with a molecular sieve material that adsorbs nitrogen more than oxygen. At the outlet end ( 6 ) of the first adsorption column ( 4 ), an oxygen-enriched gas stream emerges, which is referred to below as product gas.
The product gas flows via a first control element ( 7 ) and a product gas line ( 8 ) common to both adsorption columns ( 4 , 5 ) into a gas tank ( 9 ) and from there to a consumer (not shown).
The two control elements ( 7 , 10 ) have the property of having a lower flow resistance in the direction from the outlet end ( 6 , 11 ) of the associated adsorption column ( 4 , 5 ) to the common product gas line ( 8 ) than in the opposite direction. Therefore, via the second control element ( 10 ), a small fraction of the amount of gas flowing through the first control element ( 7 ) flows into the outlet end ( 11 ) of the second adsorption column ( 5 ), through it and via a vent valve ( 12 ) in the environment. This gas flow is called the purge flow. It serves to remove the nitrogen desorbed by lowering the pressure in the molecular sieve material of the second adsorption column ( 5 ) from the adsorption column ( 5 ). This adsorption column ( 5 ) is in its regeneration phase. All valves ( 13 , 14 , 15 ) not previously mentioned are closed during this phase, the others ( 2, 12 ) are open.
When the molecular sieve material in the first adsorption column ( 4 ) is saturated with nitrogen, the production phase for this adsorption column ( 4 ) is ended. This is followed by a short pressure equalization phase in which pressure equalization between the two adsorption columns ( 4 , 5 ) is established by opening the pressure equalization valve ( 15 ). The valves ( 2 , 12 , 14 ) are closed during this phase, the valve ( 13 ) is open.
After completion of the pressure equalization phase, the first adsorption column ( 4 ) goes into its regeneration phase, the second ( 5 ) into its production phase. The valves ( 13 , 14 ) are open, the valves ( 2 , 12 , 15 ) are closed. The product gas stream now flows into the gas tank ( 9 ) via the second control element ( 10 ), while the purge stream flows through the first adsorption column ( 4 ) into the environment via the first control element ( 7 ).
Due to the throttling action of the control elements ( 7 , 10 ), the pressure in the gas tank ( 9 ) does not reach the peak value of the pressure of the adsorption column ( 4 , 5 ) that is currently in the production phase. Therefore, product gas can still flow into the gas tank even during the pressure equalization phase, in which the peak pressure in one adsorption column drops to an average pressure. The delivery of product gas is therefore not interrupted and the pressure fluctuations in the gas tank remain low. Due to the special property of the control elements ( 7 , 10 ) to have different flow resistance in both flow directions, the purge flow can be limited to the necessary level and the product gas flow is at the highest possible level.
Fig. 2 shows schematically a possible embodiment of a control element ( 7 , 10 ).
The control element consists of a check valve ( 16 ) and a throttle ( 17 ) connected in series. Another choke ( 18 ) is connected in parallel with the two components ( 16 , 17 ). In one direction of flow, indicated by a thick arrow, the check valve ( 16 ) is open and gas can flow through both throttles ( 17 , 18 ). In the opposite direction, which is indicated by a thin arrow, the check valve ( 16 ) is closed and gas can only flow through the throttle ( 18 ). Since throttle ( 17 ) has a low flow resistance, while throttle ( 18 ) has a high flow resistance, there is a greater flow in one direction than in the opposite direction.
In Fig. 3, the throttle ( 18 ) of Fig. 2 connected in parallel is replaced by a bore ( 19 ) in the closing element ( 20 ) of the check valve ( 21 ). A throttle ( 22 ) is connected in series with this special check valve ( 21 ). In one flow direction, the check valve ( 21 ) opens and a large gas flow determined by the throttle ( 22 ) is released. The check valve ( 21 ) closes in the opposite direction. However, it does not close hermetically, a small gas flow flows through the bore ( 19 ).
A further embodiment is shown in FIG. 4a. Except for a small central bore ( 24 ), the gas-carrying pipe ( 23 ) is closed by an elastic disc ( 25 ). The cross-sectional profile of the disc ( 25 ) is provided with stiffeners, so that the small cross-section of the bore ( 24 ) is retained in the flow direction shown in FIG. 4a. In the opposite flow direction, however, the disk ( 25 ) can deform, so that the cross section of the bore ( 124 ) is widened ( FIG. 4b).
In Fig. 5a is a manufacturing technology particularly favorable embodiment is illustrated. The gas-carrying pipe ( 26 ) is closed by a disc ( 27 ) which has a central bore ( 28 ) and additionally a plurality of bores ( 29 ) distributed over the surface. An elastic membrane ( 30 ) is arranged on one side of the pane. The outer diameter of the membrane ( 30 ) is slightly less than the diameter of the disc ( 27 ). The membrane ( 30 ) has a central bore ( 31 ) which is slightly larger than the central bore ( 28 ) of the disc ( 27 ). At the edge of this bore ( 31 ), the membrane ( 30 ) with the disc ( 27 ) by z. B. gluing connected. In one flow direction, the membrane of the disc lies on top and covers all the bores ( 29 ) except for the central bore ( 28 ) ( FIG. 5a). Only a small gas flow is possible. In the opposite direction, the membrane ( 30 ) lifts off the disc ( 27 ), a high gas flow through all the bores ( 28 , 29 ) is possible ( Fig. 5b).
Finally, a purely fluid-technical embodiment is shown in FIG. 6. In the flow direction marked by a thick arrow, the gas, on its way through the gas-carrying pipe ( 32 ), finds a fluidically favorable nozzle ( 33 ) with a relatively low flow resistance.
The gas can pass through the narrowest point ( 35 ) of the nozzle ( 33 ) without strong vortex formation. In the opposite direction (thin arrow), however, the gas builds up in the annular dead space ( 34 ) around the nozzle ( 33 ) and can only pass through the narrowest point ( 35 ) of the nozzle ( 33 ) with strong turbulence, a high flow resistance and therefore a low gas flow is the result.
