Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method for producing a longitudinally watertight cable element, in which one or several glass fibers provided with a plastic layer Extrusion be surrounded by a plastic cover such that the coated glass fibers inside the plastic cover are freely movable, and in the between the coated Glass fibers and the inner wall of the plastic cover Gap the water spread in the longitudinal direction of the cable element preventing material is introduced.
Lichtwellenleiter mit losem Coating werden in der Regel gefüllt, wobei durch die Füllung folgende Vorteile angestrebt werden:Optical fibers with a loose coating are usually used filled, with the following advantages sought by the filling will:
The freedom of movement of the optical fibers should be so far be restricted that no damping increase by Change in position of the optical fibers within the envelope arises. Good ones are also desired Adhesion-cohesion characteristics with extremely low Coefficient of friction. Moisture accumulation within the Envelopes should be prevented by effective barriers. The usually protected by an acrylic layer Glass fibers can become so through moisture accumulation attacked that the transmission properties are negative are affected and the fiber unusable in extreme cases becomes.
Hollow and loose tubes are therefore common immediately after extrusion with a special mass filled with a hollow needle in the space between extruded envelope and optical fiber (s) is introduced. The mass can be a polyethylene-rubber-mineral oil mixture, a mass based on silicone rubber, or a synthetic, thixotropic, gel-like mass based on silicone or Be polytetrafluoroethylene.
The disadvantage of this structure is the fact that over the entire length of the veins the gel-like mass is present, what leads to increased costs. Another disadvantage is that the mass tends to drip at elevated temperature and emerges from the wire ends. Especially in the sockets and in this is considered a disadvantage for the authorities. The disadvantage is furthermore that before the installation of the cables the optical fibers must be freed from the crowd. Especially at FO aerial cables are the weight fraction of the mass of the cable weight disadvantageous.
The invention is therefore based on the object longitudinally waterproof cable element of the type mentioned to provide which works without this mass and from therefore avoids the aforementioned drawbacks.
This object is achieved in a method of the type mentioned at the beginning Art solved in that the material on entry of Moisture swelling powder is and the powder to the still sticky inner wall of the extruded plastic shell becomes.
It is essential that the powder in such an amount is deposited that when moisture enters the cavity between the inner wall of the plastic cover and the Optical fibers are completely filled, and one Longitudinal water migration is avoided. A major advantage is also that when winding or winding the wire or finished cable no distribution of the powder in the Plastic sheath occurs and powder plugs are avoided.
According to a particularly advantageous embodiment of the invention is the powder by swirling on the inner wall of the Plastic cover attached. The layer thickness depends on himself and is essentially based on the Particle size of the powder. The investment can still do so be improved that the powder is electrostatically charged becomes. The powder hits due to electrostatic attraction on the still sticky surface of the plastic cover and glued to this. Another advantageous approach is that the powder against the still hot, sticky Inner wall is blown. In this configuration the Invention partially penetrate the powder particles into the Surface of the plastic cover and are there captured. It is important to ensure that the blowing pressure is not set so high that the wall of the Plastic shell deformed.
The invention is not applicable to the manufacture of filled hollow or loose tubes as well as for ribbon wires.
The invention is explained in more detail with reference to the exemplary embodiment shown schematically in FIGS. 1 and 2.
The outgoing from supply spools 1 optical fiber 2 are inserted into the mouthpiece 3 of an extruder 4 and there with a sheath 5 made of thermoplastic material such. B. polyamide or polyisobutylene terephthalate.
A thin tube 6 , which is connected to a storage container 7 and a blower 8 , is inserted into the mouthpiece 3 and ends shortly behind the outlet opening of the mouthpiece 3 . At its end, the tube 6 carries a plate-like extension 9 , on the circumference of which a plurality of openings, not shown, are provided. In addition, openings for the optical waveguides 2 in the surface of the plate-like extension 9 are also not yet separately designated.
During the extrusion of the plastic sleeve, powder is blown from the storage container 7 through the tube 6 and the peripheral openings of the plate-like extension 9 against the still sticky inner wall of the plastic sleeve 5 by means of the blower 8 and remains there (see FIG. 10 ). Particle size and particle quantity are coordinated with one another such that in the event of water ingress, the cavity formed by the plastic casing 5 is filled by the swelling powder 10 and is thus sealed against the spread of water.
As a powder, for. B. a cellulose-based powder, which is already used as a CMC powder for longitudinal sealing of cables is known.
