Abstract

A process and an apparatus are described for the purification of hydrogen-sulphide-containing fuel gases (biogas or digester gas). A process is proposed according to the invention which dispenses with an addition of a gaseous oxidising agent into the fuel gas and enables the microbial oxidation of hydrogen sulphide without adversely affecting the fuel gas. The amount of oxygen necessary for microbial oxidation of hydrogen sulphide is introduced by the process liquid (11) which is circulated between a column operated as a bioreactor (7) and as an absorber (7). The alternating operation of the columns of bioreactor and absorber enables removal of the oxidation products accumulating. The process enables, without complex control technology, the purification of hydrogen-sulphide-containing fuel gases. <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for microbial cleaning of hydrogen sulfide fuel gases (such as biogas or fermentation gas) and the application of the invent method according to the invention. Bio or digester gases are generated by Anaerobic degradation of organic materials. In sewage technology Due to the high level, organic or digested gases Methane portion can be thermally recycled. The fuel gas has depending on the starting substrate and the process conditions of the anaerobic processing a composition of about 60-65 % Methane, 35-40% carbon dioxide and up to 0.5% sulfur hydrogen, as well as traces of ammonia and hydrogen.

One desired and belonging to the state of the art thermal Utilization stands for the high proportion of hydrogen sulfide and Against ammonia. In the case of a combustion, Schwe hydrogen sulfide and ammonia polluting sulfur dioxide and NOx gases. The sulfur contained in the bio or fermentation gas hydrogen also has a corrosive effect in dissociated form and significantly affects the lifespan of the user facilities. It is a technical task that is carried out by anaerobic processes produce fuel gases from the sulfur water to clean fabric and ammonia parts. Known procedures use physical-chemical processes or the microbial Oxidation of hydrogen sulfide for gas cleaning. The physi calic processes (adsorption on activated carbon, washing out the Harmful gases DE 37 16 199 A1) and the chemical processes (Oxi dation on iron hydroxide DE 32 01 393 A1) are expensive and it non-usable waste materials are created or there are expenses some regeneration processes necessary. As an alternative microbial processes for hydrogen sulfide removal Fuel gases described in which hydrogen sulfide through Microorganisms, the sulfur compounds for energy can use change, is oxidized. Because the microbial Hydrogen sulfide oxidation is an aerobic process, one must amount of oxygen necessary for microbial oxidation  be fed. Bio or digested gases do not contain acid fabric, so that according to the prior art, the to be cleaned Air or a suitable oxidizing agent are added to the fuel gas becomes. The methods and devices described are based on the use of complex control mechanisms (EP 0 402 704, DE-OS 35 42 345). As an oxidizing agent is typically air. When dosing air as an oxidizing agent considerable amounts of inert gases are introduced into the biogas wear, causing deterioration of the fuel gas. The dosage of a gaseous oxidizing agent leads to for the necessary security monitoring of the Explo limits in the gas mixture and the necessary regulation of the Gas flows. The complex measurement and control technology provides a weak point of the known methods.

He's goal The invention is a method and a device for micro bielle purification of fuel gases to create the be Written disadvantages of the known methods are eliminated. These Object is according to the invention according to the method ge solves that the fuel gas to be cleaned by a bioreactor is directed. In the bioreactor are microorganisms with which Ability to oxidize hydrogen sulfide, immo on supports bilizes. With this bioreactor, what is to be cleaned becomes Fuel gas in cocurrent or countercurrent with a process liquid managed. The process liquid is in the swamp of the biore pumped out by an absorber in the same or Counterflow with an air or oxidant flow. The process liquid is sown with oxygen in the Absober does. In the sump of the absorber, it becomes saturated with oxygen Process liquid pumped out and fed to the bioreactor. Surprisingly, it was found that the process liquid the bioreactor for microbial hydrogen sulfide oxides tion supplies sufficient amount of oxygen and in the Bioreactor forms a stable microorganism population. The microorganisms oxidize that in the process liquid absorbed hydrogen sulfide in the bioreactor. The bil Ending oxidation products are partially deposited or further oxidized to sulfuric acid. The sulfur that forms  is partially absorbed by the microorganisms on the carriers stored, partly suspended in the process liquid. About It was surprisingly found that when operating a with Sulfur-loaded bioreactor as an absorber cleaning the loaded carrier elements. According to the procedure proposed to clean the loaded carrier materials the columns alternate as a bioreactor and as an absorber operate. By changing the supplied process gases The alternating operation enables the gass currents diverted through a suitable device. The teardown Cleaning is a regeneration phase with deposits increasing pressure losses necessary. The oxidation product Sulfuric acid shifts the pH to acidic areas where by washing out the ammonia contained in the fuel gas parts is made possible. The process liquid becomes continuous Lich circulated between the bioreactor and absorber. According to the invention, the method enables continuous Purification of the bio or fermentation gases from hydrogen sulfide and Ammonia and at the same time prevents mixing of fuel gas and oxidant flow. The object is achieved according to the invention solved according to the device in that the bioreactor as a filling body or bottom column is designed. The microorganisms with the ability to oxidize hydrogen sulfide are on Carriers immobilized in the bioreactor. The process fluid, which according to the invention in the circuit between bioreactor and Ad sorber is promoted, wets the microorganisms. The pro zeßiquid transmits the absorbed in the absorber column my oxygen into the bioreactor. By a suitable pre direction process liquid can be removed. So who the oxidation contained in the process liquid products carried out. The circled process liquid is by one with those necessary for the growth of microorganisms Process liquid containing nutrients replaced. The liquid The exchange takes place depending on the pH value. The one for Operation pH is in the range of 0.5-1.5 pH. A ge in the circuit of the process liquid switched sedimentation level in connection with the  Device for discharging the process liquid orbiting part of the suspended sulfur. For cleaning carrier materials loaded with the oxidation product sulfur and plant parts, the bioreactor alternately acts as an absorber Operated via or the absorber as a bioreactor. Fixture according to the gas entry and exit flows Switched using suitable actuators. It will depend on Operating state of the gas stream to be cleaned, as well as the oxida tion medium flow passed through the corresponding column.

In the following, the invention and device are presented on the basis of an exemplary embodiment. The embodiment will be described in connection with the accompanying drawing. The device consists of a bioreactor / absorber ( 7 ) through which the process liquid is conveyed in the circuit. The bioreactor / absorber ( 7 ) is a packed column. The microorganisms that are able to oxidize hydrogen sulfide to generate energy (Thiobacillus sp.) Are immobilized on packing elements ( 8 ). The process liquid ( 11 ) is introduced in cocurrent with the gas to be cleaned ( 1 ) in the column operated as a bio reactor ( 7 ) so that the immobilized microorganisms are wetted by it. The hydrogen sulfide contained in the fuel gas ( 1 ) to be cleaned is sorbed and oxidized by the microorganisms. Ammonia is sorbed in the acidic process liquid (pH 0.5-1.5) ( 11 ). The process liquid ( 11 ) is pumped out of the column bottom of the bioreactor ( 1 ) in such a way that gas transfer into the column operated as the absorber ( 7 ) is avoided. In the absorber ( 7 ), the process liquid is introduced in cocurrent with an air stream ( 3 ) through a gas liquid distributor ( 6 ). The process liquid ( 11 ) is saturated with oxygen in the absorber ( 7 ). The high specific surface area of the packing ( 8 ) wetted with process liquid ( 11 ) ensures a good mass transfer. The oxygen-saturated process liquid speed ( 11 ) is pumped out at the bottom of the absorber column so that a gas transfer into the bioreactor is avoided. The process liquid is then in turn introduced into the bioreactor ( 7 ) via the gas liquid distributor ( 6 ). In the sedimentation stage ( 12 ), suspended sulfur can settle and is removed via the pH-controlled outlet ( 14 ). The process liquid ( 11 ) loaded with oxidation products (sulfur and sulfate) is circulated through the pH-controlled drain. The proportion of the circulated process liquid is replaced by liquid ( 13 ) enriched with nutrients. The liquid exchange is expediently implemented via a suitable fill level control ( 16 ). With the help of the gas fittings ( 5 ), depending on the pressure loss in the bioreactor ( 7 ), measured via the differential pressure ( 18 ), the gas flows ( 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 ) are switched in such a way that the bioreactor is used alternately as a bioreactor or as Absorber or the absorber is operated as an absorber and bioreactor.
