Description
- Gebiet der Erfindung
- Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft Gele, die aus neuen anionischen Blockcopolymeren aus Monoalkenylarenen und konjugierten Dienen hergestellt sind.
- Stand der Technik
- Die Herstellung von Blockcopolymeren aus Monoalkenylarenen und konjugierten Dienen ist gut bekannt. Eines der ersten Patente auf linearen ABA-Blockcopolymeren, die mit Styrol und Butadien hergestellt sind, ist das US Patent 3,149,182. Diese Polymere konnten wiederum zur Bildung stabilerer Blockcopolymere, wie derjenigen, die in dem US Patent 3,595,942 und US Re. 27,145 beschrieben sind, hydriert werden. Derartige Polymere werden allgemein als Styrolblockcopolymere oder SBC's bezeichnet.
- SBC's weisen eine lange Geschichte in der Verwendung als Klebstoffe, Dichtungsmassen und Gele auf. Ein jüngstes Beispiel eines Gels kann in dem US Patent Nr. 5,879,694 gefunden werden. Mit der zunehmenden Verwendung von Öl-Gelen, die ein beliebtes Geschenk in Form von Kerzen geworden sind, besteht der Bedarf an verbesserten Eigenschaften (ausgedrückt in Bezug auf eine größere Zugfestigkeit und größere Dehnung). Die vorliegende Erfindung umfasst eine neue Klasse von SBC's, in denen der Polymerhersteller die Kompatibilitätscharakteristika des Gummisegments variieren kann, was zu verbesserten Öl-Gelen führt. Derartige Gele können ebenfalls zum Beispiel als wasserfestes Einbettharz/Dichtungsmasse für die Elektronik und in Draht- und Kabelanwendungen verwendet werden.
- Jetzt wurde ein neues anionisches Blockcopolymer, basierend auf Monoalkenylarenendblöcken und Mittelblöcken mit kontrollierter Verteilung aus Monoalkenylarenen und konjugierten Dienen, entdeckt und in der parallel anhängigen gemeinschaftlich übertragenen US Patentanmeldung mit der Serial-Nummer 60/355,210 und dem Titel „NOVEL BLOCKCOPOLYMERS AND METHOD FOR MAKING SAME" beschrieben. Verfahren zur Herstellung derartiger Polymere sind ausführlich in der vorstehend erwähnten Patentanmeldung beschrieben. Die Patentinhaber haben festgestellt, dass diese neuen Polymere die Herstellung verbesserter Öl-Gele erlauben wird.
- Zusammenfassung der Erfindung
- In einem Aspekt der vorliegenden Erfindung haben wir eine neue Öl-Gel-Zusammensetzung entdeckt, umfassend 100 Gewichtsteile wenigstens eines hydrierten Blockcopolymers, das einen Block mit kontrollierter Verteilung aus einem Monoalkenylaren und einem konjugierten Dien aufweist und 350 bis 2.000 Gewichtsteile eines Strecköls, worin das hydrierte Blockcopolymer wenigstens einen Polymerblock A und wenigstens einen Polymerblock B aufweist, und worin (a.) vor der Hydrierung jeder A-Block unabhängig voneinander ein Monoalkenylarenhomopolymerblock ist und jeder B-Block unabhängig voneinander ein Copolymerblock mit kontrollierter Verteilung aus wenigstens einem konjugierten Dien und wenigstens einem Monoalkenylaren ist; (b.) und nach der Hydrierung 0-10% der Arendoppelbindungen und wenigstens 90% der konjugierten Diendoppelbindungen reduziert worden sind; (c.) jeder A-Block ein Molekulargewichtszahlenmittel zwischen 3.000 und 60.000 aufweist und jeder B-Block ein Molekulargewichtszahlenmittel zwischen 30.000 und 300.000 aufweist; (d.) jeder B-Block endständige Bereiche umfasst, die zu den A-Blöcken benachbart sind, die reich an konjugierten Dieneinheiten sind, und einen oder mehrere Bereiche, die nicht zu denjenigen A-Blöcken benachbart sind, die reich an Monoalkenylareneinheiten sind; (e.) die Gesamtmenge an Monoalkenylaren im Blockcopolymer 20 bis 80 Gew.-% beträgt; und (f.) der Gewichtsprozentanteil an Monoalkenylaren in jedem B-Block zwischen 10 und 75% beträgt.
- Die allgemeine Konfiguration des Blockcopolymers ist vorzugsweise eine von A-B, A-B-A, (A-B)n, (A-B)n-A, (A-B-A)nX oder (A-B)nX; wobei n eine ganze Zahl von 2 bis 30, vorzugsweise von 2 bis 15, bevorzugter von 2 bis 6 ist und X der Rest eines Kopplungsmittels ist.
- Ausführliche Beschreibung bevorzugter Ausführungsformen
- Der Schlüsselbestandteil der vorliegenden Erfindung ist das neue Blockcopolymer, das Monoalkenylarenendblöcke und einen einmalig vorkommenden Mittelblock aus einem Monoalkenylaren und einem konjugierten Dien enthält. Überraschenderweise führt die Kombination aus (1) einer einzigartigen Kontrolle für die Monomeraddition und (2) der Verwendung von Diethylether oder anderen Modifikatoren als Bestandteil des Lösungsmittels (die als „Verteilungsmittel" bezeichnet werden) zu einer bestimmten charakteristischen Verteilung der zwei Monomere (hier als Polymerisation mit „kontrollierter Verteilung" bezeichnet, das heißt, eine Polymerisation, die zu einer Struktur mit „kontrollierter Verteilung" führt), und sie führt ebenfalls zur Anwesenheit bestimmter Regionen in dem Polymerblock, die reich an Monoalkenylaren sind, und zu bestimmten Regionen in dem Polymerblock, die reich an konjugiertem Dien sind. Zu diesem Zweck ist der Begriff „kontrollierte Verteilung" so definiert, dass er sich auf eine Molekülstruktur mit den folgenden Merkmalen bezieht: (1) endständige Regionen, die zu den Monoalkenylarenhomopolymer („A") Blöcken, die reich an konjugierten Dieneinheiten sind (das heißt, die mehr als die durchschnittliche Menge an konjugierten Dieneinheiten aufweisen), benachbart sind; (2) eine oder mehrere Regionen, die nicht zu den A-Blöcken benachbart sind, die reich an Monoalkenylareneinheiten sind (das heißt, die mehr als die durchschnittliche Menge an Monoalkenylareneinheiten aufweisen); und (3) eine Gesamtstruktur mit relativ niedriger Blöckigkeit. Für die Zwecke hier ist „reich an" definiert als mehr als die durchschnittliche Menge, vorzugsweise mehr als 5% der durchschnittlichen Menge. Diese relativ geringe Blöckigkeit kann durch entweder das Vorhandensein nur einer einzelnen Glasübergangstemperatur („Tg") für das Polymerblockintermediat mit kontrollierter Verteilung zwischen den Tg's von jedem Monomer allein bei Analyse unter Verwendung von thermischen Differentialscanningkalorimetrie („DSC") Verfahren oder über mechanische Verfahren gezeigt werden oder über magnetische Protonenkernresonanz („H-NMR") Verfahren gezeigt werden. Das Potential für die Blöckigkeit kann ebenfalls aus einer Messung der UV-sichtbaren Extinktion in einem für den Nachweis von Polystyryllithiumendgruppen während der Polymerisation des B-Blocks geeigneten Wellenlängenbereich gefolgert werden. Eine scharfe und beträchtliche Zunahme in diesem Wert weist auf eine beträchtliche Zunahme an Polystyryllithiumkettenenden hin. In diesem Verfahren wird dies nur vorkommen, wenn die Konzentration an konjugier tem Dien unter das kritische Niveau zur Erhaltung der Polymerisation mit kontrollierter Verteilung fällt. Jedes Styrolmonomer, das zu diesem Zeitpunkt vorhanden ist, wird blockartig addieren. Der Begriff „Styrolblöckigkeit", wie durch den Fachmann unter Verwendung von Proton-NMR gemessen wird, ist als Anteil der S-Einheiten in dem Polymer mit zwei nächsten S-Nachbarn auf der Polymerkette definiert. Die Styrolblöckigkeit wird nach Verwendung von 1H-NMR zur Messung von zwei experimentellen Größen wie folgt bestimmt:
Erstens, die Gesamtzahl an Styroleinheiten (das heißt, willkürliche Geräteeinheiten, die sich bei Quotientenbildung aufheben) wird durch Integration des gesamten aromatischen Styrolsignals in dem 1H-NMR-Spektrum von 7,5 bis 6,2 ppm und Dividieren dieser Größe durch 5, um die 5 aromatischen Wasserstoffatome auf jedem aromatischen Styrolring zu berücksichtigen, bestimmt. - Zweitens, die blöckigen Styroleinheiten werden durch Integration des Teils des aromatischen Signals in dem 1H-NMR-Spektrum von dem Signalminimum zwischen 6,88 und 6,80 bis 6,2 ppm und Dividieren dieser Größe durch 2, um die zwei ortho-Wasserstoffatome auf jedem blöckigen aromatischen Styrolring zu berücksichtigen, bestimmt. Die Zuordnung dieses Signals zu den zwei ortho-Wasserstoffatomen auf den Ringen dieser Styroleinheiten, die die zwei nächsten Styrolnachbarn haben, wurde von F.A. Bovey, High Resolution NMR of Macromolecules (Academic Press, New York und London, 1972), Kapitel 6, berichtet.
- Die Styrolblöckigkeit ist einfach der prozentuale Anteil an blöckigem Styrol bezüglich der gesamten Styroleinheiten:
Blöckigkeit% = 100 mal (Blöckige Styroleinheiten/Gesamte Styroleinheiten) - Auf diese Weise ausgedrückt ist Polymer-Bd-S-(S)n-S-Bd-Polymer, wobei n größer als null ist, als ein blöckiges Styrol definiert. Ist zum Beispiel in dem vorstehenden Beispiel n gleich 8, dann würde der Blöckigkeitsindex 80% betragen. Es ist bevorzugt, dass der Blöckigkeitsindex weniger als 40 beträgt. Für einige Polymere mit Styrolgehalten von zehn Gewichtsprozent bis vierzig Gewichtsprozent ist es bevorzugt, dass der Blöckigkeitsindex weniger als 10 beträgt.
- Diese Struktur mit kontrollierter Verteilung ist sehr wichtig, um die Festigkeit und die Tg des resultierenden Copolymers zu steuern, weil die Struktur mit kontrollierter Verteilung sicher stellt, dass es so gut wie keine Phasentrennung der zwei Monomere gibt, das heißt, im Gegensatz zu Blockcopolymeren, in denen die Monomere tatsächlich wie getrennte „Mikrophasen" mit verschiedenen Tg's bleiben, jedoch tatsächlich chemisch aneinander gebunden sind. Diese Struktur mit kontrollierter Verteilung stellt sicher, dass nur eine Tg vorkommt und, dass daher das thermische Verhalten des resultierenden Copolymers vorhersagbar und tatsächlich vorher bestimmbar ist. Wird weiterhin dann ein Copolymer mit einer derartigen Struktur mit kontrollierter Verteilung als ein Block in einem Diblock-, Triblock- oder Multiblockcopolymer verwendet, wird die relativ höhere Tg, die durch das Vorhandensein einer geeignet aufgebauten Copolymerregion mit kontrollierter Verteilung ermöglicht wurde, dazu neigen, den Fluss und die Verarbeitbarkeit zu verbessern. Eine Modifikation bestimmter anderer Eigenschaften ist ebenfalls erreichbar.
- In einer bevorzugten Ausführungsform der vorliegenden Erfindung weist der betreffende Copolymerblock mit kontrollierter Verteilung drei unterschiedliche Regionen auf – an konjugiertem Dien reiche Regionen auf dem Ende des Blocks und eine an Monoalkenylaren reiche Region in der Nähe der Mitte oder des Zentrum des Blocks. Erwünscht ist ein Monoalkenylaren/konjugiertes Dien-Copolymerblock mit kontrollierter Verteilung, in dem der Anteil an Monoalkenylareneinheiten allmählich bis zu einem Maximum in der Nähe der Mitte oder des Zentrums des Blocks zunimmt und dann allmählich abnimmt, bis der Polymerblock vollständig polymerisiert ist. Diese Struktur ist ausgeprägt und verschieden von den sich verjüngenden und/oder statistischen Strukturen, die im Stand der Technik diskutiert werden.
- Ausgangsmaterialien zur Herstellung der neuen Copolymere mit kontrollierter Verteilung der vorliegenden Erfindung umfassen die Anfangsmonomere. Das Alkenylaren kann aus Styrol, alpha-Methylstyrol, para-Methylstyrol, Vinyltoluol, Vinylnaphthalin und para-Butylstyrol oder Mischungen davon ausgewählt werden. Von diesen ist Styrol besonders bevorzugt und es ist von einer Vielzahl von Herstellern kommerziell erhältlich und relativ kostengünstig. Die konjugierten Diene zur Verwendung hierin sind 1,3-Butadien und substituierte Butadiene, wie zum Beispiel Isopren, Pipe rylen, 2,3-Dimethyl-1,3-butadien und 1-Phenyl-1,3-butadien oder Mischungen davon. Von diesen ist 1,3-Butadien besonders bevorzugt. Wie hier und in den Ansprüchen verwendet wird, bezieht sich „Butadien" spezifisch auf „1,3-Butadien".
- Wie vorstehend diskutiert ist, weist der Polymerblock mit kontrollierter Verteilung eine dienreiche Region(en), die zu dem A-Block benachbart ist, und eine arenreiche Region auf, die nicht zu dem A-Block benachbart ist und sich typischerweise in der Nähe des Zentrums des Blocks befindet. Typischerweise umfasst die an den A-Block angrenzende Region die ersten 15 bis 25% des Blocks und umfasst die dienreiche Region(en), wobei der Rest als arenreich angenommen wird. Der Begriff „dienreich" bedeutet, dass die Region ein messbar höheres Verhältnis von Dien zu Aren aufweist, als die arenreiche Region. Anders ausgedrückt, nimmt der Anteil an Monoalkenylareneinheiten allmählich entlang der Polymerkette bis zu einem Maximum in der Nähe der Mitte oder des Zentrums des Blocks zu (wenn wir eine ABA-Struktur beschreiben) und nimmt dann allmählich ab, bis der Polymerblock vollständig polymerisiert ist. Für den Block B mit kontrollierter Verteilung beträgt der Gewichtsprozentanteil an Monoalkenylaren zwischen ungefähr 10 Prozent und ungefähr 75 Prozent.
- Wie hierin verwendet wird, ist „thermoplastisches Blockcopolymer" als ein Blockcopolymer mit wenigstens einem ersten Block aus einem Monoalkenylaren, wie zum Beispiel Styrol und einem zweiten Block eines Copolymers mit kontrollierter Verteilung aus Dien und Monoalkenylaren definiert. Das Verfahren zur Herstellung dieses thermoplastischen Blockcopolymers geht über jedes der Verfahren, die für Blockpolymerisationen allgemein bekannt sind. Die vorliegende Erfindung umfasst als eine Ausführungsform eine thermoplastische Copolymerzusammensetzung, die entweder eine Diblockcopolymer, Triblockcopolymer- oder Multiblockzusammensetzung sein kann. Im Falle der Diblockcopolymerzusammensetzung ist ein Block der auf Alkenylaren basierende Homopolymerblock und damit ist ein zweiter Block eines Copolymers mit kontrollierter Verteilung aus Dien und Alkenylaren polymerisiert. Im Falle der Triblockzusammensetzung umfasst sie als Endblöcke das glasartige auf Alkenylaren basierende Homopolymer und als Mittelblock das Copolymer mit kontrollierter Verteilung aus Dien und Alkenylaren. Wenn eine Triblockcopolymerzusammensetzung hergestellt wird, kann das Dien/Alkenylaren-Copolymer mit kontrollierter Verteilung hierin mit „B" und das auf Alkenylaren basierende Homopolymer mit „A" bezeichnet werden. Die A-B-A, Triblockzusammensetzungen können entweder durch sequentielle Polymerisation oder durch Kopplung hergestellt werden. Bei der sequentiellen Lösungspolymerisationstechnik wird das Monoalkenylaren zuerst eingeführt, um den relativ harten aromatischen Block zu erzeugen, dem folgt die Einführung der Dien/Alkenylarenmischung mit kontrollierter Verteilung zur Bildung des Mittelblocks und dann folgt die Einführung des Monoalkenylarens zur Bildung des endständigen Blocks. Zusätzlich zu der linearen A-B-A-Konfiguration können die Blöcke zur Bildung eines radialen (verzweigten) Polymers, (A-B)nX, strukturiert werden oder beide Arten von Strukturen können in einer Mischung kombiniert werden. Es kann etwas A-B-Diblockpolymer vorhanden sein, jedoch ist vorzugsweise weniger als ungefähr 30 Gew.-% des Blockcopolymers A-B-A oder radial (oder andernfalls so verzweigt, dass es 2 oder mehr endständige harzige Blöcke pro Molekül aufweist), um Festigkeit zu verleihen.
- Es ist ebenfalls wichtig, das Molekulargewicht der verschiedenen Blöcke zu kontrollieren. Für einen AB-Diblock betragen die gewünschten Blockgewichte 3.000 bis 60.000 für den Monoalkenylaren A-Block, und 30.000 bis 300.000 für den konjugierten Dien/Monoalkenylaren B-Block mit kontrollierter Verteilung. Bevorzugte Bereiche sind 5.000 bis 45.000 für den A-Block und 50.000 bis 250.000 für den B-Block. Für den Triblock, der ein sequentielles ABA oder gekoppeltes (AB)2X Blockcopolymer sein kann, sollten die A-Blöcke 3.000 bis 60.000, vorzugsweise 5.000 bis 45.000 aufweisen, während der B-Block für den sequentiellen Block 30.000 bis 300.000 und die B-Blöcke (zwei) für das gekoppelte Polymer die halbe Menge aufweisen sollten. Das gesamte durchschnittliche Molekulargewicht für das Triblockcopolymer sollte 40.000 bis 400.000 und für das radiale Copolymer 60.000 bis 600.000 betragen. Diese Molekulargewichte werden höchst genau durch Lichtstreuungsmessungen bestimmt und sind als zahlengemittelte Molekulargewichte ausgedrückt.
- Ein weiterer wichtiger Aspekt der vorliegenden Erfindung besteht in der Kontrolle der Mikrostruktur oder des Vinylgehalts des konjugierten Diens in dem Copolymerblock mit kontrollierter Verteilung. Der Begriff „Vinylgehalt" bezieht sich auf ein konjugiertes Dien, das über 1,2-Addition (im Falle von Butadien – im Falle von Isopren wäre es eine 3,4-Addition) polymerisiert wird. Obwohl eine reine „Vinyl"- Gruppe nur im Falle der 1,2-Additionspolymerisation von 1,3-Butadien gebildet wird, werden die Wirkungen der 3,4-Additionspolymerisation von Isopren (und eine ähnliche Addition für andere konjugierte Diene) auf die letztendlichen Eigenschaften des Blockcopolymers ähnlich sein. Der Begriff „Vinyl" bezieht sich auf das Vorhandensein einer an der Polymerkette hängenden Vinylgruppe. Bei der Bezugnahme auf die Verwendung von Butadien als konjugiertes Dien ist bevorzugt, dass 20 bis 80 Molprozent der kondensierten Butadieneinheiten im Copolymerblock eine 1,2-Vinylkonfiguration, entsprechend der Bestimmung durch Proton-NMR-Analyse, aufweisen, vorzugsweise sollten 30 bis 70 Molprozent der kondensierten Butadieneinheiten 1,2-Vinylkonfiguration aufweisen. Dies wird durch Variieren der relativen Menge des Verteilungsmittels wirksam kontrolliert. Wie klar sein wird, dient das Verteilungsmittel zwei Zwecken – es erzeugt die kontrollierte Verteilung des Monoalkenylarens und konjugierten Diens und es kontrolliert ebenfalls die Mikrostruktur des konjugierten Diens. Geeignete Verhältnisse von Verteilungsmittel zu Lithium werden in dem US Patent Re 27,145, auf dessen Offenbarungsgehalt hier vollumfänglich Bezug genommen wird, offenbart und gelehrt.
- Ein wichtiges Merkmal der thermoplastischen elastomeren Diblock- und Triblockpolymere der vorliegenden Erfindung, einschließlich einem oder mehreren Dien/Alkenylaren-Copolymerblöcken mit kontrollierter Verteilung und einem oder mehreren Monoalkenylarenblöcken, ist, dass sie wenigstens zwei Tg's aufweisen, wobei die niedrigere die kombinierte Tg des Copolymerblocks mit kontrollierter Verteilung ist, die zwischen den Tg's der Monomerbestandteile liegt, die den Copolymerblock aufbauen. Eine derartige Tg beträgt vorzugsweise wenigstes –60°C, bevorzugter von –40 bis +30°C und besonders bevorzugt –40 bis +10°C. Die zweite Tg, die des „glasartigen" Monoalkenylarenblocks, beträgt vorzugsweise mehr als 80 °C, bevorzugter von 80 bis 110°C. Das Vorhandensein der zwei Tg's, das die Mikrophasentrennung der Blöcke veranschaulicht, trägt zu der bemerkenswerten Elastizität und Festigkeit des Materials und zu seiner leichten Verarbeitbarkeit und wünschenswerten Schmelzfließcharakteristika in einem großen Anwendungsbereich bei.
- Das Blockcopolymer ist selektiv hydriert. Die Hydrierung kann über jedes von mehreren Hydrierungsverfahren oder selektiven Hydrierungsverfahren ausgeführt werden, die aus dem Stand der Technik bekannt sind. Eine derartige Hydrierung wurde zum Beispiel unter Verwendung von Verfahren, wie diejenigen, die zum Beispiel in den US Patenten 3,494,942; 3,634,954; 3,670,054; 3,700,633 und Re. 27,145 gelehrt sind, ausgeführt. Die Hydrierung kann unter solchen Bedingungen ausgeführt werden, dass wenigstens 90 Prozent der konjugierten Diendoppelbindungen reduziert werden und zwischen 0 und 10 Prozent der Arendoppelbindungen reduziert werden. In einem bevorzugten Bereich werden wenigstens 95 Prozent der konjugierten Diendoppelbindungen reduziert und bevorzugter werden 98 Prozent der konjugierten Diendoppelbindungen reduziert. Alternativ dazu ist es möglich, das Polymer so zu hydrieren, das die aromatische Ungesättigtheit ebenfalls über das vorstehend erwähnte Niveau von 10 Prozent hinaus reduziert wird. In diesem Fall können 90 Prozent oder mehr der Doppelbindungen von sowohl dem konjugierten Dien als auch dem Aren reduziert werden.
- Alternativ dazu kann das Blockcopolymer der vorliegenden Erfindung auf eine Reihe von Arten funktionalisiert werden. Ein Verfahren ist die Behandlung mit einem ungesättigten Monomer mit einer oder mehreren funktionellen Gruppen oder deren Derivaten, wie zum Beispiel Carbonsäuregruppen und deren Salze, Anhydride, Ester, Imidgruppen, Amidgruppen und Säurechloride. Die auf die Blockcopolymere zu pfropfende bevorzugten Monomere sind Maleinsäureanhydrid, Maleinsäure, Fumarsäure und deren Derivate. Eine weitere Beschreibung der Funktionalisierung derartiger Blockcopolymere kann in Gergen et al, US Patent Nr. 4,578,429 und US Patent Nr. 5,506,299 gefunden werden. Auf eine andere Weise kann das selektiv hydrierte Blockcopolymer der vorliegenden Erfindung durch Pfropfen von Silizium- oder Borenthaltenden Verbindungen an das Polymer funktionalisiert werden, wie in dem US. Patent Nr. 4,882,384 gelehrt ist. Auf eine andere Weise kann das Blockcopolymer der vorliegenden Erfindung mit einer Alkoxy-Silanverbindung unter Bildung eines Si-lan-modifizierten Blockcopolymers in Kontakt gebracht werden. Auf eine weitere Weise kann das Blockcopolymer der vorliegenden Erfindung durch Reaktion von wenigstens einem Ethylenoxidmolekül mit dem Polymer funktionalisiert werden, wie in dem US Patent Nr. 4,898,914 gelehrt wird, oder durch Umsetzen des Polymers mit Kohlenstoffdioxid, wie in dem US Patent Nr. 4,970,265 gelehrt wird. Weiterhin können in die Blockcopolymere der vorliegenden Erfindung Metallatome eingeführt werden, wie in den US Patenten mit den Nummern 5,206,300 und 5,276,101 gelehrt wird, wobei das Polymer mit einem Alkalimetallalkyl, wie zum Beispiel Lithiumalkyl in Kontakt gebracht wird. Und weiterhin können die Blockcopolymere der vorliegenden Erfindung durch Pfropfen von Sulfogruppen an das Polymer funktionalisiert werden, wie in der
US 5,516,831 gelehrt wird. - Einer der in den Öl-Gelen der vorliegenden Erfindung verwendeten Bestandteile ist ein Polymerstrecköl oder ein Weichmacher. Besonders bevorzugt sind die Ölarten, die mit dem elastomeren Segment des Blockcopolymers kompatibel sind. Obwohl Öle mit höherem Gehalt an Aromaten zufrieden stellend sind, werden solche auf Petroleum basierende Weißöle mit niedriger Flüchtigkeit und einem aromatischen Gehalt von weniger als 50% bevorzugt. Derartige Öle umfassen sowohl paraffinische als auch naphthenische Öle. Die Öle sollten zusätzlich eine niedrige Flüchtigkeit, vorzugsweise einen Anfangssiedepunkt von mehr als 260°C (500°F) aufweisen.
- Beispiele alternativer Weichmacher, die in der vorliegenden Erfindung verwendet werden können, sind Oligomere von statistisch oder sequentiell polymerisiertem Styrol und konjugiertem Dien, Oligomere eines konjugierten Diens, wie zum Beispiel Butadien oder Isopren, flüssiges Polybuten-1 und Ethylen-Propylen-Diengummi, die alle ein massegemitteltes Molekulargewicht im Bereich von 300 bis 35.000, vorzugsweise ein Molekulargewicht von weniger als 25.000 aufweisen.
- Die Menge an verwendetem Öl oder Weichmacher variiert von 350 bis 2000 Gewichtsteilen auf Hundert Gewichtsteile Gummi, oder Bockcopolymer, vorzugsweise von 400 bis 100 Gewichtsteilen.
- In den Öl-Gel-Formulierungen können zur Pigmentierung des Öl-Gels und zur Verringerung der Kosten verschiedene Arten von Füllstoffen und Pigmenten enthalten sein. Geeignete Füllstoffe umfassen Calciumcarbonat, Ton, Talk, Siliziumdioxid, Zinkoxid, Titandioxid und dergleichen. Die Menge an Füllstoff liegt normalerweise im Bereich von 0 bis 30 Gew.-%, basierend auf der Formulierung, in Abhängigkeit von der Art des verwendeten Füllstoffs und der für das Öl-Gel beabsichtigten Anwendung.
- Die Zusammensetzungen der vorliegenden Erfindung können weiterhin durch Zugabe anderer Polymere, Verstärkungsmittel, Antioxidantien, Stabilisatoren, flammhemmender Stoffe, Antiblockiermittel, Gleitmittel und anderen Gummi- und Kunststoffmischungsbestandteilen modifiziert werden, ohne vom Rahmen der vorliegenden Erfindung abzuweichen. Derartige Bestandteile sind in verschiedenen Patenten, einschließlich des US Patents Nr. 3,239,478 und des US Patents Nr. 5,777,043, auf deren Offenbarungsgehalte hier vollumfänglich Bezug genommen wird, offenbart worden.
- Die Zusammensetzungen der vorliegenden Erfindung können für eine große Vielzahl von Verwendungen und Anwendungen ausgelegt sein. Sie können als wasserfestes Einbettharz/Dichtungsmasse für die Elektronik und in Draht- und Kabelanwendungen, jedoch ebenfalls in der Herstellung von Kerzen und dergleichen verwendet werden.
- Werden die relativen Mengen der verschiedenen Bestandteile betrachtet, so werden diese teilweise von der speziellen Endverwendung und von dem speziellen Blockcopolymer abhängen, das für die spezielle Endverwendung ausgewählt wurde. Nachstehende Tabelle A zeigt einige fiktive Zusammensetzungen, die von der vorliegenden Erfindung umfasst werden. „CD-Polymer" bezieht sich auf das Polymer mit kontrollierter Verteilung der vorliegenden Erfindung:

- Die folgenden Beispiele sind zur Erläuterung der vorliegenden Erfindung bereitgestellt. Die Beispiele beabsichtigen nicht, den Rahmen der vorliegenden Erfindung einzuschränken und sie sollten nicht so interpretiert werden. Mengen sind in Gewichtsteilen oder Gewichtsprozentsätzen angegeben, sofern es nicht anders angegeben ist. Die in den Beispielen verwendeten Testverfahren sind Testverfahren der American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM) und die folgenden spezifischen Verfahren wurden verwendet:

- Verschiedene Blockcopolymere mit kontrollierter Verteilung der vorliegenden Erfindung wurden gemäß dem in der der parallel anhängigen Patentanmeldung mit der Serial-Nummer 60/335,210, auf die vorstehend verwiesen wurde, einschließlich ihrer Fortsetzungsanmeldung, die zusammen mit dieser Anmeldung eingereicht wurde, offenbarten Verfahren hergestellt. Alle Polymere waren selektiv hydrierte AB- oder ABA-Blockcopolymere, bei denen die A-Blöcke Polystyrolblöcke sind und der B-Block vor der Hydrierung ein Styrol-Butadienblock mit kontrollierter Verteilung ist, der endständige Regionen aufweist, die reich an Butadieneinheiten sind, und eine Zentralregion aufweist, die reich an Styroleinheiten ist. Die verschiedenen Polymere sind nachstehend in Tabelle 1 gezeigt. Diese Polymere wurden dann in den verschiedenen Anwendungen, die in den anderen Beispielen beschrieben sind, verwendet. Schritt I MW ist das Molekulargewicht des ersten A-Blocks, Schritt II MW ist das Molekulargewicht der AB-Blöcke und Schritt III MW ist das Molekulargewicht ABA-Blöcke. Die Polymere wurden so hydriert, dass mehr als ungefähr 95% der Diendoppelbindungen reduziert worden sind. Tabelle 1. Polymere mit kontrollierter Verteilung wobei „MW (k)" = Molekulargewicht in Tausend und „PSC (%)" = Gew.-% Styrol in dem letztendlichen Polymer sind. „Styrolblöckigkeit" betrifft nur den B-Block.
- Dementsprechend ist das Polymer #25 ein lineares ABA-Triblockcopolymer mit zahlengemittelten Blockmolekulargewichten von 9.500 – 80.000 – 9.500; Polymer #27 ist ein lineares ABA-Triblockcopolymer mit Blockmolekulargewichten von 7.500 – 62.600 – 7.300; Polymer #28 ist ein AB-Diblockcopolymer mit Blockmolekulargewichten von 7.800 – 31.500; und Polymer #26 ist ein lineares ABA-Triblockcopolymer mit Blockmolekulargewichten von 7.300 – 35.800 – 7.300.
- Beispiel 2
- Beispiel 2 zeigt die Verwendung des neuen CD-Polymers #25 in Öl-Gelen. Die Proben #2-1, 202 und 2-3 zeigen die Eigenschaften von Gelen, die auf einem herkömmlichen hydrierten SBC, SEBS#1 basieren. SEBS#1 ist ein selektiv hydriertes SBS-Blockcopolymer mit Polystyrolendblöcken von ungefähr 10.000 und einem hydrierten Polybutadienmittelblock von ungefähr 50.000. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass bei zunehmendem Polymergehalt sich der Erweichungspunkt und die Zugfestigkeitseigenschaften verbessern und die Schmelzviskosität zunimmt. Die Proben #2-4 und 2-6 zeigen, dass bei Verwendung des CD-Polymers #25 dieselbe Tendenz gefunden wird. Jedoch ergibt überraschenderweise das CD-Polymer #25 eine höhere Zugfestigkeit und eine höhere Dehnung als das herkömmliche hydrierte Polymer. DRAKEOL 34 ist von Penreco erhältlich und ist ein paraffinisches Verarbeitungsöl mit einer Tg von –64°C.
Claims (7)
- Öl-Gel-Zusammensetzung umfassend 100 Gewichtsteile wenigstens eines hydrierten Blockcopolymers, das einen Block mit kontrollierter Verteilung aus einem Monoalkenylaren und einem konjugiertem Dien aufweist, und 350 bis 2.000 Gewichtsteile eines Strecköls, worin das hydrierte Blockcopolymer wenigstens einen Polymerblock A aufweist und wenigstens einen Polymerblock B, und worin (a.) vor der Hydrierung jeder A-Block unabhängig voneinander ein Monoalkenylarenhomopolymerblock ist und jeder B-Block unabhängig voneinander ein Copolymerblock mit kontrollierter Verteilung aus wenigstens einem konjugierten Dien und wenigstens einem Monoalkenylaren ist; (b.) und nach der Hydrierung 0-10% der Arendoppelbindungen und wenigstens 90% der konjugierten Diendoppelbindungen reduziert worden sind; (c.) jeder A-Block ein Molekulargewichtszahlenmittel zwischen 3.000 und 60.000 aufweist und jeder B-Block ein Molekulargewichtszahlenmittel zwischen 30.000 und 300.000; (d.) jeder B-Block endständige Bereiche benachbart zu denjenigen A-Blöcken umfasst, die eine mehr als durchschnittliche Menge an konjugierten Dieneinheiten aufweisen; und einen oder mehrere Bereiche, die nicht zu denjenigen A-Blöcken benachbart sind, die eine mehr als durchschnittliche Menge an Monoalkenylareneinheiten aufweisen; (e.) die Gesamtmenge an Monoalkenylaren an hydrierten Blockcopolymer 20 bis 80 Gew.-% beträgt; und (f.) der Gewichtsprozentanteil des Monoalkenylarens in jedem B-Block zwischen 10 und 75 Prozent beträgt.
- Öl-Gel-Zusammensetzung nach Anspruch 1, worin das Monoalkenylaren Styrol ist und das konjugierte Dien ausgewählt ist aus Isopren und Butadien.
- Ll Gel-Zusammensetzung nach Anspruch 1 oder 2, worin das konjugierte Dien Butadien ist und worin 20 bis 80 Mol.-% der kondensierten Butadieneinheiten in Block B eine 1,2-Konfiguration aufweisen.
- Öl-Gel-Zusammensetzung nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 3, worin die Styrolblöckigkeit des Blocks B weniger als 40 Mol-Prozent beträgt und wobei der Styrolblöckigkeitsindex als das Verhältnis derjenigen Styroleinheiten im Block B definiert ist, die zwei Styrolnachbarn auf der Polymerkette aufweisen.
- Öl-Gel-Zusammensetzung nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 4, worin der Gewichtsprozentanteil von Styrol in jedem B-Block zwischen 10 Prozent und 30 Prozent beträgt und der Styrolblöckigkeitsindex von jedem Block B weniger als 10 ist.
- Öl-Gel-Zusammensetzung nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 5, worin das hydrierte Blockcopolymer ein ABA, (A-B)n, (A-B)nA oder ein (A-B)nX Blockcopolymer ist, wobei n eine ganze Zahl von 2 bis 30 ist, X der Rest des Kopplungsmittels ist und worin das Blockcopolymer ein Gesamtmolekulargewicht von 40.000 bis 140.000 aufweist und worin jeder B-Block zwischen 10 und 30 Gewichtsprozent Styrol aufweist.
- Öl-Gel-Zusammensetzung nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 6, worin das Strecköl ein auf Petroleum basierendes Weißöl ist, das eine niedrige Flüchtigkeit und weniger als 50% Gehalt an Aromaten aufweist.
