Description
- Hintergrund der Erfindung
- Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft Katheter, die in körperlichen Leitungen bzw. Blutbahnen angeordnet werden können. Die Erfindung betrifft insbesondere Dilatationsballons und Katheter zur Verwendung solcher Ballons zur Verabreichen von Behandlungen, um verengte Durchgänge aufzuweiten, beispielsweise bei der Angioplastik, Valvuloplastik oder bei urologischen Verfahren.
- Ein Beispiel eines solchen Verfahrens, nämlich die Angioplastik, wird zum Behandeln einer Stenose verwendet, das heißt zur Wiederherstellung eines hinreichenden Blutstroms zu einem Bereich eines Blutgefäßes, das sich zu einem solchen Grad verengt hat, dass der Blutstrom eingeschränkt ist. Häufig kann die Stenose gedehnt werden, sodass das Gefäß eine annehmbare Blutstromgeschwindigkeit zulässt. Koronare Angioplastik umfasst beispielsweise den Einschub eines Ballonkatheters durch eine Koronararterie eines Patienten zu einer arteriellen Stenose und Einspritzen eines geeigneten Fluids in den Ballon zum Aufblähen desselben, wodurch folglich die Stenose radial auswärts geweitet wird. Angioplastie hat sich als eine erfolgreiche Alternative zur koronaren arteriellen Bypasschirurgie erwiesen.
- Typischerweise weisen Ballonkatheter einen Ballon auf, der an mindestens einem Ende um das Äußere eines Hohlkatheterschafts befestigt ist. Das hohle Innere des Ballons ist in Fluidstrombeziehung mit dem hohlen Inneren des Schafts. Der Schaft kann dann verwendet werden, um für eine Fluidzuführung zum Aufblähen des Ballons zu sorgen.
- Gegenwärtig verwendete Ballonkatheter können in dehnbare bzw. nachgiebige (compliant) oder nicht-dehnbare bzw. steife (non-compliant) Ballons eingeteilt werden. Dehnbare bzw. nachgiebige Ballons dehnen sich aus und strecken sich bei wachsendem Druck in dem Ballon und werden aus Materialien, wie Polyethylen oder Polyolefincopolymeren, gefertigt. Nicht-dehnbare Ballons, die aus Materialien, wie Polyethylenterephthalat (PET) oder Polyamiden, hergestellt werden, verbleiben bei einem vorausgewählten Durchmesser, wenn der Innendruck des Ballons sich über den zum vollständigen Aufblähen des Ballons erforderlichen erhöht.
- Dehnbare Ballonmaterialien liefern einen Grad von Weichheit für den Ballon, was seinen Durchgang durch beispielsweise Blutgefäße bei minimaler Schädigung unterstützt. Bekannte dehnbare Ballonmaterialien können auch gute Abrieb- und Punkturbeständigkeit bei Dicken zeigen, die typischerweise für medizinische Vorrichtungsballons angewendet werden. Wie vorstehend erwähnt, verbleiben sie jedoch mit ansteigendem Druck nicht bei dem gewünschten Durchmesser. Solchen dehnbaren Ballons fehlt es auch an ausreichender Umfangsfestigkeit, um hohe dehnende Kräfte zu erzielen.
- Ein nicht-dehnbarer Ballon, der ungeachtet einer Druckerhöhung bei einem vorausgewählten Durchmesser verbleibt, ist häufig erwünscht. Typische nicht-dehnbare Ballonmaterialien zeigen nicht den gleichen Weichheitsgrad und die gleiche Abriebbeständigkeit, verglichen mit den dehnbaren Ballons.
- Für viele Behandlungsbedingungen würde es erwünscht sein, dass man über einen Dilatationsballon verfügt, der die kombinierten Eigenschaften von Weichheit, Abrieb und Punkturbeständigkeit, Umfangsfestigkeit und die Fähigkeit, einen vorausgewählten Durchmesser beizubehalten, wenn sich der Innendruck innerhalb des Ballons erhöht, besitzt. Der hierin beschriebene Ballon wurde in Hinblick auf diesen Bedarf entwickelt.
- Die vorliegende Erfindung stellt einen Dilatationsballon zur Verwendung in einer medizinischen Vorrichtung bereit. Der Dilatationsballon schließt eine gemischte Strukturschicht ein, wobei das Gemisch ein thermoplastisches Elastomer in Kombination mit einem nicht-dehnbaren Strukturpolymermaterial umfasst. Das thermoplastische Polymer ist ein statistisches Block-Copolymer eines kristallinen Polyesters und eines amorphen Glycols. Das nicht-dehnbare Strukturmaterial ist Polyethylenterephthalat (PET).
- In einer weiteren Ausführungsform ist die Erfindung ein Katheter zum Einführen in eine körperliche Leitung. Der Katheter schließt einen Schaft mit einem Lumen innerhalb des Schafts zur Freisetzung von flüssigen, aufgeblähten Medien und einen Dilatationsballon, gebunden an den Schaft und eine Kammer definierend, ein. Die Kammer ist eine flüssige Verbindung mit dem Lumen, um Aufblähen der Kammer zu erlauben. Der Dilatationsballon schließt ein thermoplastisches Elastomer in Kombination mit einem nicht-dehnbaren vorstehend bezüglich des Ballons gemäß der Erfindung beschriebenen Strukturpolymermaterial ein.
- In einer weiteren Ausführungsform ist die Erfindung außerdem ein Verfahren zum Herstellen eines Dilatationsballons zur Verwendung in einer medizinischen Kathetervorrichtung. Das Verfahren schließt Herstellen eines im Allgemeinen zylindrischen Ballonrohlings aus einer Kombination eines thermoplastischen Elastomers und einem nicht-dehnbaren Strukturmaterial und Formen des Ballonrohlings zum Herstellen des Dilatationsballons ein.
- Der Ballonrohling kann durch Abscheiden einer das thermoplastische Elastomer einschließenden Elastomerschicht auf der das nicht-dehnbare Strukturpolymermaterial einschließenden Strukturschicht zum Herstellen eines schichtförmigen, im Allgemeinen zylindrischen Ballonrohlings hergestellt werden. Das thermoplastische Elastomer und das nicht-dehnbare Strukturpolymermaterial können coextrudiert werden, um den Ballonrohling herzustellen. Alternativ kann der Ballonrohling durch Herstellen eines Gemischs des thermoplastischen Elastomers und des nicht-dehnbaren Strukturpolymermaterials hergestellt werden. Im Allgemeinen wird der zylindrische Ballonrohling aus einem Gemisch gebildet und der Ballonrohling wird dann geformt, um den Dilatationsballon herzustellen. Der Ballonrohling kann so geformt werden, dass er einen im Allgemeinen zylindrischen mittigen Teil und im Allgemeinen konische Endteile aufweist.
- Kurzbeschreibung der Zeichnungen
- Zum besseren Verständnis der vorliegenden Erfindung und der weiteren Aufgaben, Vorteile und Möglichkeiten davon wird auf die nachstehende Beschreibung und die beigefügten Ansprüche zusammen mit den Zeichnungen verwiesen:

- Eine beispielhafte Ausführungsform des erfindungsgemäßen Ballons wird hierin beschrieben. Der Angioplastiekatheter schließt einen Ballon, der an dem distalen Ende eines Schafts befestigt ist, einschließlich mindestens eines Lumens zum Aufblähen des Ballons, ein. Der Ballon ist ein allgemein röhrenförmiger Körper, der aus einer Kombination von einem nicht-dehnbaren Strukturpolymermaterial und einem ther moplastischen Elastomer (TPE) erzeugt wurde. Die Kombination kann in Form von Gemischen oder gemischten Schichten von diesen Materialien erfolgen. Ist der Katheter einmal an der Position der Arterie des Patienten, kann ein fluides Aufblähmedium über das Lumen eingeführt werden, um den Ballon zu dem vorausgewählten, gewünschten Durchmesser aufzublähen.
- Der Begriff „Strukturpolymer" oder „Strukturpolymermaterial" bedeutet, wenn hierin verwendet, ein beliebiges Polymermaterial, das zur Verwendung in medizinischen Ballons geeignet ist und mit dem ausgewählten TPE verträglich ist. Wie vorstehend erwähnt, bedeutet der Begriff „nicht-dehnbar", wenn hierin verwendet, das Verbleiben bei einem vorausgewählten Durchmesser, wenn sich der Innendruck in dem Ballon oberhalb jenem, der, zum vollständigen Aufblähen des Ballons erforderlich ist, erhöht. Die Strukturschicht des Ballons muss selbsttragend sein und muss in der Lage sein, mindestens eine TPE-Schicht darauf zu tragen. Geeignete nicht-dehnbare Strukturpolymermaterialien schließen beispielsweise modifizierte Polyester, Polyethylenterephthalat (PET), modifizierte Polybutylene, Polyvinylchloride, Polyamide (beispielsweise Nylon) und so weiter oder eine Kombination davon ein. Bevorzugt sind biaxial orientierte, nicht-dehnbare Strukturmaterialien; besonders bevorzugt ist biaxial orientiertes PET.
- Der Begriff „thermoplastisches Elastomer" oder „TPE" bedeutet, wenn hierin verwendet, ein Polymermaterial, das die mechanischen Eigenschaften eines wärmehärtenden Kautschuks, das heißt Elastizität, Weichheit und Zähigkeit, mit der Produktionsökonomie eines thermoplastischen Polymers kombiniert. Die TPE schließen Styrolblockcopolymere, Polyolefingemische (TPOs), elastomere Legierungen, thermoplastische Polyurethane (TPUs), thermoplastische Copolyester und thermoplastische Polyamide ein. Diese Materialien haben variierende Muster von harten und weichen Segmenten, die in die Polymerkette oder Verbindung eingeschlossen sind. Die harten Segmente schmelzen oder erweichen bei den Verarbeitungstemperaturen, wobei sie für eine einfachere Herstellung ein schmelzverarbeitbares Material erzeugen. In Block-Copolymer TPE sind die harten und weichen Bereiche in der gleichen Polymerkette. Beschreibungen verschiedener Arten von TPE findet man in Modern Plastics Encyclopedia 1988, Band 64, Nummer 10A, Seiten 93–100 (Oktober 1987) und in Modern Plastics Encyclopedia 1990, Band 66, Nummer 11, Seiten 122–131 (Mitte Oktober 1989).
- Die TPE für den hierin beschriebenen Ballon sind technische thermoplastische Elastomere (ETEs), die statistische Block-Copolymere mit harten Segmenten aus kristallinem Polyester und weichen Segmenten aus amorphen Glycol darstellen. ETE besitzen Flexibilität über einen breiten mechanischen Belastungsbereich und sind ziemlich dehnbar, wenn innerhalb ihrer Elastizitätsgrenze gearbeitet wird. Ein weiterer Vorteil von ETE für medizinische Vorrichtungen ist deren Beständigkeit gegenüber der meisten Strahlung, was Sterilisierung durch solche Maßnahmen gestattet, obwohl sie vor UV-Strahlung geschützt sein müssen.
- Die bevorzugtesten ETE zur Verwendung in den hierin beschriebenen medizinischen Vorrichtungen sind statistische Block-Copolymere von Polyetherglycol und Polybutylenterephthalat (PBT). Diese kombinieren kristalline harte PBT-Segmente mit schmelzstabilen weichen Glycolsegmenten und kommen in einem breiten Bereich von Steifheitsgraden vor. Besonders bevorzugt sind jene mit einem Biegemodul von etwa 1,45 × 108 Pa bis 3,03 × 109 Pa (21000–440000) (wie gemäß ASTM D790, Verfahren 1 gemessen), beispielsweise Hytrel® Polymere (erhältlich von E. I. DuPont de Nemours and Company, Wilmington, DE).
- Wie vorstehend erwähnt, kann die Kombination eines TPE und eines nicht-dehnbaren Strukturpolymers in Form von Gemischen oder Schichten von Gemischen von diesen Materialien vorliegen. Geeignete Gemische schließen homogene und nahezu homogene Gemische ein, die durch herkömmliche Mittel, wie Rühren, Vermischen, Compoundieren und so weiter, hergestellt werden können, ein.
- In einer schichtförmigen Ausführungsform des Ballons werden eine oder mehrere Grundstrukturpolymerschichten gebildet, beispielsweise durch Extrusion aus einem Gemisch von PET und ETE. Weitere Strukturschichten können aus einem Gemisch von zwei oder mehreren Strukturpolymeren, einem Gemisch eines Strukturpolymers mit einer geringen Menge eines weiteren Polymermaterials oder einem Gemisch eines Strukturpolymers mit einer geringen Menge TPE gebildet werden. Wenn hierin verwendet, bedeutet der Begriff „geringe Menge" eine Menge, die so ausgewählt ist, dass das Additiv nicht mehr als eine Sekundärkomponente darstellt, beispielsweise weniger als 50 Gewichtsprozent des Gemisches. Das Material der Strukturschicht muss jedoch noch für den Ballon die vorstehend für das Strukturmaterial beschriebenen Eigenschaften beitragen. Die Grundstrukturschicht (oder -schichten) ist typischerweise mindestens etwa 0,2–1,5 mil dick und gibt dem Ballon seine Zugfestigkeit, sodass die Ballonwand selbst trägt.
- Mindestens eine zusätzliche elastomere äußere Schicht, etwa 0,2 bis 0,5 mil dick, wird mit coextrudiert oder anders auf der Grundschicht abgeschieden und typischerweise im Allgemeinen damit coextrudiert. Normalerweise ist die Elastomerschicht wesentlich dünner als die Strukturschicht. Das Material dieser äußeren Schicht basiert auf einem thermoplastischen Elastomer (TPE), das in einigen Ausführungsformen mit einem Gemisch mit anderen Polymeren, von denen bekannt ist, dass sie für medizinische Ballons geeignet sind, kombiniert werden kann. Die Menge von diesen Polymeren sollte jedoch innerhalb solcher Grenzen liegen, die erlauben würden, dass ein solches Gemisch für den Ballon die hierin für eine solche Elastomerschicht beschriebenen Eigenschaften beiträgt. Besonders bevorzugt für die äußere Elastomerschicht ist ein Gemisch eines ETE mit einer geringen Menge eines nicht-dehnbaren Strukturpolymers, beispielsweise ein Gemisch von etwa 1 bis 10 Gewichtsprozent PET, wobei der Rest Hytrel-Elastomer ist.
- In einigen der vorstehend beschriebenen Schichtballons kann es vorteilhaft sein, einen Klebstoff oder andere Polymerschicht zwischen zwei oder mehrere der Schichten abzuscheiden oder zu coextrudieren. In einer Ausführungsform kann die Klebschicht eingeführt werden, um die Anhaftung zwischen coextrusiven Ballonschichten zu verbessern und falls erwünscht, kann sie zur Anhaftung des medizinischen Vorrichtungsballons an einem Katheterschaft aufgetragen werden. In einer weiteren Ausführungsform kann eine zusätzliche Polymerschicht eingeschlossen sein, um andere erwünschte Eigenschaften für den Ballon beizutragen, beispielsweise um für weitere Weichheit und/oder Faltbarkeit des Ballons beizutragen. In anderen Ausführungsformen kann der Klebstoff oder anderes Polymer mit einer strukturellen und/oder Elastomerschicht vermischt werden, um ihre Eigenschaften für den Ballon beizutragen. Beispielsweise kann in einem Dreischicht-Ballon ein Anhaftungspolymer mit einer Strukturpolymerschicht vermischt werden, um die Anhaftung von inneren und äußeren ETE-Schichten an die Strukturschicht zu verbessern. Die Menge an Klebstoff oder anderem Polymer in einem solchen Gemisch wird so ausgewählt, dass die gewünschte Erhöhung der Eigenschaften bereitgestellt wird, wodurch das Gemisch die hierin für eine solche Schicht beschriebenen Eigenschaften besitzen kann. Beispiele für Klebstoffmaterialien zum Bilden dieser Schicht oder ein Gemisch sind Bynel® Klebstoffharz (E. I. DuPont de Nemours and Company, Wilmington, DE) oder Plexar® Klebstoffharz (Quantum Chemical Corp., Cincinnati, OH). Selar® modifiziertes PET-Harz (E. I. DuPont de Nemours and Company, Wilmington, DE) ist eine geeignete Polymerzwischenschicht oder Gemischadditiv für das Verbessern von Weichheit und Faltbarkeit des Ballons. Bynel- und Plexar-Harze können auch dazu dienen, die Abbriebbeständigkeit und Punkturbeständigkeit des Ballons zu verbessern und ihn mit einem weicheren Anfühlen auszustatten.
- In einer weiteren Ausführungsform des Ballons wird eine Einschichtballonwand aus einem Gemisch eines nicht-dehnbar Strukturpolymers und eines TPE gefertigt. Das TPE, vorzugsweise das vorstehend beschriebene Polyetherglycol/PBT Block-Copolymer, wird mit dem Strukturpolymer in einem TPE-zu-Strukturpolymerverhältnis so ausgewählt, dass der gewünschte Grad an Weichheit und Abriebbeständigkeit für den Ballon ohne unnötige Beeinträchtigung der Umfangsfestigkeit oder des gewünschten aufzublähenden Durchmessers bereitgestellt wird. Wie vorstehend erwähnt, können solche Gemische homogen oder nahezu homogen sein und können auf beliebigen verschiedenen Wegen, die auf dem Fachgebiet bekannt sind, vermischt werden. Typische Polymerverhältnisse für einen solchen Einschichtballon sind etwa 40 : 60 bis 60 : 40 TPE:Strukturpolymer.
- In anderen Ausführungsformen kann das TPE/Strukturpolymergemisch, das in dem vorstehend beschriebenen Einschichtballon verwendet wird, als eine Strukturschicht in Kombination mit anderen Schichten verwendet werden oder kann gemischt werden, um als eine Elastomerschicht in einem Schichtballon angewendet zu werden. Das Polymerverhältnis für eine vermischte Strukturschicht eines solchen Ballons ist typischerweise etwa 40 : 60 bis 60 : 40 TPE : Strukturpolymer; was für elastomere innere oder äußere Schichten typischerweise etwa 30 : 70 bis 60 : 40 TPE:Strukturpolymer ist. Die exakten Verhältnisse innerhalb dieser Bereiche zum Erzeugen von speziellen Balloneigenschaften werden empirisch mit minimaler Versuchsführung bestimmt. Diese gemischten Schichten können mit oder ohne einen Klebstoff oder eine weichmachende Komponente oder wie vorstehend beschriebene Schicht verwendet werden.
- Die Verwendung von thermoplastischen Elastomeren in medizinischen Vorrichtungsballons ergibt einen überlegenen Ausgleich von Balloneigenschaften, wenn als eine oder mehrere äußere Schichten über einer Strukturschicht von gegenwärtig verwendeten Ballonmaterialien oder anderen geeigneten Strukturpolymeren oder als äußere und innere Schichten, die eine solche Strukturschicht umgeben, verwendet. Alternativ kann dieser überlegene Ausgleich von Balloneigenschaften unter Verwendung von TPE als ein Gemisch von gegenwärtig verwendeten Ballonmaterialien oder anderen geeigneten Strukturpolymeren erreicht werden. Durch Variieren des Herstellungsverfahrens und/oder der Schichtmaterialien und/oder Gemischmaterialien und Verhältnisse, wie hierin beschrieben, können die Struktur- und Oberflächeneigenschaften des ETE enthaltenden Ballons vorher auf ein gewünschtes Verfahren zugeschnitten werden.
- Die nachstehende Beschreibung verschiedener erläuternder, in den Zeichnungen gezeigter Ausführungsformen, bezieht sich auf technische thermoplastische Elastomere (ETE). Jedoch ist es nicht vorgesehen, den Umfang der vorliegenden Erfindung darauf zu beschränken, sondern sie sind nur veranschaulichend und repräsentativ dafür.
- Unter Bezugnahme auf
1 schließt Katheter10 gemäß einer Ausführungsform der vorliegenden Erfindung Schaft12 mit Lumen14 und16 , die sich dadurch erstrecken und ein proximales Ende18 und ein distales Ende20 aufweisen, ein. Distales Ende20 erstreckt sich zur Katheterspitze22 . Dilatationsballon24 , gezeigt in1 , umgibt in seinem aufgeblähten Zustand das distale Ende des Schafts20 . Das proximale Ballonende26 ist an das distale Schaftende20 an einen Punkt, der räumlich von der Spitze22 beabstandet ist, gebunden und das distale Ende von Ballon28 ist an das distale Schaftende20 nahe Spitze22 , jeweils beispielsweise durch einen geeigneten Klebstoff (nicht gezeigt), gebunden. Ballon24 definiert Ballonkammer30 , die in fluider Kommunikation mit Lumen14 über Öffnung32 ist. Somit kann Ballon24 mittels Durchleiten eines fluiden Aufblähmediums durch Lumen14 und Öffnung32 in Kammer30 aufgebläht werden. Lumen16 kann beispielsweise so genutzt werden, dass es einen Führungsdraht oder eine andere Vorrichtung enthält. - Wie in
1 und2a gezeigt, wird Dilatationsballon24 , der das distale Schaftende20 umgibt, aus zwei Schichten34 und36 von verschiedenen Polymermaterialien aufgebaut. Innere Schicht34 ist eine Strukturschicht von beispielsweise PET, ungefähr 0,2–1,0 mil dick. Die äußere Schicht36 wurde coextrudiert, um mit Schicht34 gemeinsam dehnbar zu sein und ist eine Schicht aus ETE, beispielsweise Hytrel-Copolymer, etwa 0,2–0,5 mil dick. -
2b ,2c und2d erläutern alternative Ausführungsformen des erfindungsgemäßen Ballons im Querschnitt, ähnlich zu2a . Der Einfachheit halber wird jedoch das distale Schaftende20 , obwohl es eigentlich in der gleichen Position, wie in2a gezeigt, vorliegt, nicht in der in2b bis2d gezeigten Ansicht angeführt. -
2b erläutert einen Querschnitt des Dilatationsballons24a , der aus einer Einschicht38 eines Gemischs eines Strukturpolymers, beispielsweise Polyethylenterephthalat mit ETE, beispielsweise Hytrel-Copolymer, hergestellt wurde. -
2c zeigt Ballon24b , der aus beispielsweise coextrudierten Dreifachschichten34a ,36a und40 hergestellt wurde. Strukturschicht34a und äußere ETE-Schicht36a sind ähnlich zu Schichten34 und36 von1 und2a . In der in2c erläuterten Ausführungsform wurde jedoch eine zusätzliche ETE-Schicht, innerste Schicht40 , so coextrudiert, dass sie sich mit den Schichten34a und36a und der inneren dazu gemeinsam gedehnt hat. Die innerste Schicht40 stellt zusätzliche Reißfestigkeit bereit, um die Ballonwand vor Schädigung vor Innendruck zu schützen. Schicht40 stellt auch einen weicheren, faltbareren Ballon bereit. -
2d erläutert Ballon24c , der in einer ähnlichen Weise zu Ballon24 von1 und2a und mit einer inneren Strukturschicht34b und äußeren ETE-Schicht36b hergestellt wurde. Eins dünne Zwischenanhaftungsschicht42 aus beispiels weise Bynelharz wird mit und zwischen Schichten34b und36b coextrudiert, um damit gemeinsam ausdehnbar zu sein, wodurch bewirkt wird, dass die Schichten34b und36b sicherer aneinander binden. - In weiteren alternativen Ausführungsformen können eine oder mehrere der Schichten
34 ,34a und34b ein Gemisch eines Strukturpolymers mit ETE sein. Auch alternativ kann eine oder mehrere der Schichten36 ,36a ,36b oder40 ein Gemisch aus ETE mit einem polymeren Strukturmaterial sein. In der Ausführungsform von2c kann eine ausreichende Menge eines Polymerklebstoffs zum Verbessern des Bindens der Schichten in Schicht34a vermischt sein. Alternativ kann Schicht34a beispielsweise eine Ballonerweichungsschicht aus Selarharz sein. Alternativ kann der Klebstoff oder anderes Polymeradditiv auch in beispielsweise Schicht34 ,36 ,36a ,40 und so weiter, wie vorstehend beschrieben, eingemischt werden. In weiteren alternativen Ausführungsformen, die nicht gezeigt werden, kann der Ballon mehr als eine innerste und/oder äußerste ETE-Schicht aufweisen. Beispielsweise kann ein Ballon, ähnlich zu jenem, der in2a gezeigt wird, vorliegen, jedoch eine zusätzliche ETE-Schicht zwischen Schichten34 und36 aufweisen oder kann ähnlich zu jener, die in2c gezeigt ist, sein, jedoch eine zusätzliche ETE-Schicht zwischen Schichten34a und eine oder beide Schichten von36a und40 aufweisen. - Beim Einsatz wird die Kathetervorrichtung, die den neuen Dilatationsballon einschließt, in die Vaskulatur eines Patienten eingeschoben und wird zum Drehen, Schieben und Ziehen in eine Position gebracht. Das Positionieren des Katheters wird durch die Weichheit des durch die TPE-Komponente des Ballons bereitgestellten Ballons unterstützt. Ist der Katheter einmal in Position, wird der Ballon zu dem vorher ausgewählten Durchmesser aufgebläht, dann über das zentrale Lumen des Schafts entlastet. Der Einschluss eines nicht-dehnbaren Strukturpolymers in den Ballon macht solche Voraus wahl des Durchmessers möglich. Nach Beendigung des Dilatationsverfahrens und Entlasten des Ballons wird der Katheter aus dem Patienten entfernt. Entfernen des Katheters wird ebenfalls durch die Weichheit unterstützt, die dem Ballon durch die TPE-Komponente zugefügt wird.
- Die hierin beschriebene Erfindung bereichert das Fachgebiet mit neuen, verbesserten Katheter- und medizinischen Vorrichtungsballons aus Verbundwerkstoff, der thermoplastische Elastomere, als (a) eine oder mehrere Schichten zusätzlich zu einer oder mehreren Schichten von gegenwärtig verwendeten Ballonstrukturmaterialien oder anderen geeigneten Strukturpolymeren oder (b) als ein Gemisch mit solchen Materialien einschließt. Der Einschluss von TPE ergibt einen ausgezeichneten Ausgleich der Balloneigenschaften, beispielsweise weicheres Anfühlen, überlegene Abrieb- und Punkturbeständigkeit, niedrigere erforderliche Insertions-, Anordnungs- und Zugkräfte, Beständigkeit des Ballons gegen Aufbläh- und Entlastungsdruck, überlegene Wiederfaltbarkeit mit Faltgedächtnis und die Fähigkeit, einen vorausgewählten Durchmesser beizubehalten, sind alle in einem einzelnen, wie hierin beschrieben hergestellten Ballon erreichbar. Somit kann der hierin beschriebene Ballon einen nicht-dehnbaren Ballon mit der Weichheit eines dehnbaren Ballons sowie einen weichen Ballon mit Bereichen von Zerberstfestigkeit und Umfangsfestigkeit, äquivalent jenen von härteren Ballons, bereitstellen. Die Verwendung von Klebstoffen und anderen Schichten oder hierin beschriebenen Schichtadditiven, insbesondere die Bynel- und Plexar-Klebstoffe und beschriebenen Selarzusätze, können vorteilhafte Klebe- und/oder Erweichungseigenschaften eröffnen. Durch Variieren des Herstellungsverfahrens und/oder Schicht- oder Gemischmaterialien und wie hierin beschriebenen Verhältnisse kann der Ausgleich von Struktur- und Oberflächeneigenschaften des TPE enthaltenden Ballons genau für ein spezielles Verfahren zugeschnitten werden.
- Obwohl gezeigt und beschrieben wurde, was gegenwärtig als die bevorzugten Ausführungsformen der Erfindung betrachtet wird, wird dem Fachmann deutlich, dass Modifizierungen und Änderungen davon ohne vom Umfang der vorliegenden Erfindung, wie in den beigefügten Ansprüchen definiert, abzuweichen, erfolgen können.
Claims (8)
- Dilatationsballon (
24 ) zur Verwendung in einer medizinischen Vorrichtung, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass der Ballon eine gemischte Strukturschicht (34 ,34a ,34b ,38 ) aufweist, wobei das Gemisch Polyethylenterephthalat (PET) und ein statistisches Block-Copolymer aus einem kristallinen Polyester und einem amorphen Glycol umfasst. - Ballon nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das Glycol Polyetherglycol ist und der Polyester Polybutylenterephthalat ist.
- Ballon nach Anspruch 1 oder 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass er weiterhin eine Elastomerschicht (
36 ) außerhalb der gemischten Strukturschicht umfasst. - Ballon nach Anspruch 3, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Elastomerschicht (
36 ) ein Gemisch eines technischen thermoplastischen Elastomers (ETE) mit PET umfasst. - Ballon nach Anspruch 3 oder 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die elastomeren und Strukturschichten coextrudiert sind.
- Ballon nach einem vorangehenden Anspruch, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das statistische Block-Copolymer aus Polyetherglycol und Polybutylenterephthalat ist und einen Biegemodul von etwa 1,45 × 108 Pa–3,03 × 109 Pa (21000– 440000 psi) wie gemessen gemäß ASTM D 790, Verfahren 1, aufweist.
- Ballon nach einem vorangehenden Anspruch, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das PET innerhalb der Strukturschicht modifiziertes PET umfasst.
- Ballon nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 5, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das Gemisch biaxial orientiertes PET und eine geringe Menge eines statistischen Block-Copolymers mit harten Segmenten aus kristallinem Polyester und weichen Segmenten aus amorphem Glycol umfasst.
