Description
Process for the preparation of mixtures of sulfonic acids and sulfuric acid esters or their salts It is known that the high-pressure hydrogenation of fatty acids or fats always produces certain amounts of hydrocarbons which remain unused in the sulfonation of the alcohols. -Furthermore, mixtures of very valuable higher, aliphatic alcohols and paraffins occur in several large-scale plants. The utilization of these mixtures by sulfonation has presented the greatest difficulties so far, since, as is well known, the paraffinic hydrocarbons can only be separated from sulfonates with the aid of solvents. In contrast, it has now been found that, without prior separation of such mixtures, they can be converted in one operation into mixtures of sulfonic acids and sulfuric acid esters or their salts which can be used as valuable detergents if higher molecular weight hydroxyl-containing aliphatic compounds are mixed with paraffinic hydrocarbons with a mixture of sulfur dioxide and chlorine , optionally under the action of active light, and the resulting mixture is saponified with water or alkaline substances. According to the invention to be used in your mixture of SO, and C12, the latter applied appropriately in LTberschuß. It is particularly advantageous to use 2 volume parts C12 for one volume part S 02.
Unlike previously known sulfonation methods, this process allows to work without any cooling of the sulfonation mixture. With a fine distribution of the gas mixture by means of glass frits or the like. A high degree of sulfonation is already achieved reached after a very short time.
The reaction with the above-mentioned gas mixture of O S, and C12 can -Be carried out at temperatures from O to i5o °, with temperatures of 3o have proven particularly advantageous to 8o °.
The saponification of the resulting mixture of sulfochlorides and Sulfuric acid ester chlorides take place in a known manner with water or with bases, whereby mixtures of sulfonic acids and sulfuric acid esters bz,% v. get their salts will. The latter in particular are valuable detergents.
It is known that hydrocarbons, including those obtained from alcohols from carbohydrate hydrogenation by dehydrogenation, polymerization of the resulting olefins to diolefins and hydrogenation of the latter to paraffinic hydrocarbons, can be reacted with mixtures of SO and C12 and the sulfochlorides formed are saponified.
In addition, it was previously of the opinion that oxygen-containing compounds, in particular alcohols for which sulfochlorination are not suitable, which is why one such compounds by suitable measures, above all by hydrogenation, gor converted sulfochlorination into saturated hydrocarbons.
In contrast, it must appear surprising that one can easily convert mixtures of higher aliphatic alcohols with paraffinic hydrocarbons without prior separation by reaction with mixtures of SO and C12 with subsequent saponification of the reaction products to valuable sweets, mixtures of sulfonic acids and sulfuric acid esters or represent their salts, can get. Examples i. 50 parts by weight of a mixture obtained in the paraffin oxidation, which consists of higher aliphatic alcohols on the one hand and paraffin hydrocarbons on the other hand and has an OH-Z of 164 and an average of 14 carbon atoms. are treated at about 50 'with a gas mixture of one part by volume of SO. and 2 parts by volume of C1, until a sample can be saponified with sodium hydroxide to give a product that is clearly soluble in water in every dilution. Implementation time about .1 hours. The disintegration can be accelerated by ultraviolet light.
In this way an excellent etching agent is obtained which results in a very poor foam and at the same time that to be expected with alcohol sulfonates Has washing effect.
Das aus diesen Säurechloriden durch Verseifung mittels -Natronlauge erhaltene Sulfonatgemisch zeichnet sich durch einen besonders guten Wascheffekt aus.100 parts by weight one: mixture of primary alcohols and paraffinic hydrocarbons, as it can be obtained in CO-I-Ivdrierttn ", with a medium chain length from 1d. Carbon atoms are converted into the corresponding sulfochlorides or sulfuric acid ester chlorides according to Example i convicted. That from these acid chlorides by saponification using sodium hydroxide solution The sulfonate mixture obtained is characterized by a particularly good washing effect the end.
