Abstract

A closure (10) for containers intended for receiving moisture-sensitive contents, wherein on the inside of the closure facing the interior of the container there is arranged a chamber (14) with an enclosed store of a desiccant substance (16) in such a way that air enclosed in the container and possibly containing moisture has access to the desiccant substance (16). The latter indicates the exhaustion of its desiccant capability by changing colour. A transparent window is provided in the wall of the chamber (14) receiving the desiccant substance, which wall is visible when the closure is opened. The colour of the desiccant substance (16) can be observed through said window. The edge region of the window has at least in some areas a reference colour which corresponds either to the colour of the fully effective substance (16) or to the colour of the originally desiccant substance (16) when it is no longer effective as a result of absorption of excessive moisture. <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a closure for containers intended for holding packaging material sensitive to atmospheric moisture, on the inside of which faces the inside of the container a chamber with an enclosed supply of a drying-active substance, e.g. granular silica gel, molecular sieve materials or the like. is arranged so that air contained in the container, possibly containing moisture, has access to the drying-active substance, which indicates the exhaustion of its drying effectiveness by a color change.

Such closures, usually in the form of plastic stoppers, are used, for example, to close containers intended for holding moisture-sensitive medication or test strips, for example tubes or vials made of glass, plastic or metal, in order to prevent the action of Prevent moisture from entering the product after opening the container for the first time. The drying-active substance binds the air humidity and thus ensures that the container contents remain effective or usable. In the aforementioned stopper closures made of plastic, the drying-active substance is either arranged in a single-piece chamber in the inside of the stopper, whose mouth facing the inside of the container is closed by a moisture-permeable cardboard disc (DE-OS 19 28 376), through which the in the container trapped, possibly moist air can pass through, or the chamber is designed as a separately produced capsule filled with drying-active substance and permeable to moisture, which capsule is subsequently inserted into the interior of the hollow stopper (DE-PS 24 06 558). The known dry substance closures are used on a large scale and have also proven themselves in principle. A disadvantage, however, is that the drying-active substance is enclosed invisibly in the chamber, so that it is not possible to check whether it is still drying-active in the required manner. Basically, this is possible because an additional indicator is incorporated in the drying-active substances used, which clearly changes the color of the substance when it has bound so much moisture that the required drying effect is no longer guaranteed.

In individual cases, it is therefore conceivable that - for example after a long storage period of a container that does not close completely tightly - the effectiveness of the drying-active substance is exhausted by penetrated moisture and the contents are already damaged.

In contrast, the invention is based on the object of developing the known drying agent closures in such a way that the drying effectiveness of the active drying substance is recognizable in any case after the closure has been opened, and thus the use of packaging goods which have been damaged by atmospheric moisture can be excluded with certainty.

Starting from a closure of the type mentioned initially, this object is achieved according to the invention in that a transparent window is provided in the wall of the chamber holding the drying-active substance which is visible when the closure is open, through which the color of the drying-active substance can be observed, and in that the edge region of the window is at least partially colored in a reference color which corresponds either to the color of the fully active drying-active substance or to the color of the originally drying-active substance which is not effective due to excessive moisture absorption. In the former case, a negative change in the drying effectiveness of the drying-active substance can be recognized in that the window originally having the same color, including the edge region, suddenly has two distinctly different colors shows (transparent) window and in the edge area. In the other case, this can be seen from the fact that the areas which were originally clearly different in color show the same color. In any case, however, changing the color of the dry matter by comparison with an unchangeable reference or target color is easier than if the color of the dry matter is to be assessed only from memory or from a color described or printed on the package insert.

The window is expediently closed by a moisture-permeable and / or perforated transparent film in order to prevent the granular drying substance from escaping.

The wall of the chamber intended to hold the drying-active substance can be colored in the reference color at least directly in its area bordering the window.

In addition to the subsequent printing of the area to be colored with the reference color, this can be achieved in the case of a closure in which the chamber which holds the active substance for drying consists of plastic in that the wall of the chamber is colored in the reference color by colored pigments embedded in the plastic material, that is to say it is colored through . This embodiment is particularly expedient if the drying-active substance is contained in a separately manufactured chamber and subsequently installed in the actual stopper closure, since then only the material required for the production of the chamber must be colored, while the color of the plug is arbitrary.

Alternatively, the edge area of the film closing the window that is still visible in the window can also be printed with the reference color, or a support or underlay is provided in the edge area of the film closing the window that is visible in the window, the visible surface of which is colored in the reference color.

  • Fig. 1 eine teilweise entlang der Längsmittelebene geschnittene Seitenansicht eines in der erfindungsgemäßen Weise ausgebildeten Kunststoff-Verschlußstopfens mit gesondert hergestellter und montierter Kammer für die trocknungsaktive Substanz;
  • Fig. 2 eine der Ansicht gemäß Fig. 1 entsprechende Ansicht des Stopfenteils ohne die Kammer für die trocknungsaktive Substanz;
The invention is explained in more detail in the following description of an embodiment in conjunction with the drawing, which shows:
  • 1 shows a side view, partially in section along the longitudinal center plane, of a plastic sealing plug designed in the manner according to the invention with a separately manufactured and assembled chamber for the drying-active substance;
  • FIG. 2 shows a view of the plug part corresponding to the view according to FIG. 1 without the chamber for the drying-active substance;
  • FIG. 3 shows a view of the chamber for the drying-active substance corresponding to the view according to FIG. 1; and
  • 4 shows a bottom view of the chamber for the drying-active substance, viewed in the direction of arrow 4 in FIG. 3.

The sealing plug shown in FIG. 1, designated in its entirety by 10, consists of the actual plug part 12 (FIG. 2) that can be pressed into the mouth of a container to be closed and a capsule-shaped chamber 14 (FIG. 2) that is also made of plastic. 3) together, which, after being filled with the granular drying substance 16, for example a granular molecular sieve material, is snapped into the stopper part 12 by an originally open side and closure of this side by means of a moisture-permeable closure disc 18.

The plug part 12 has an end plate 20, from the underside of which protrudes the hollow plug wall 22 which can be inserted into the container opening and which is open on the underside. Within the stopper wall 22, a second shorter ring wall 24 emerges concentrically to the end plate 20, in the inner circumferential surface of which an annular groove 26 with a rounded cross section is provided.

The chamber 14 has basically rotated the shape of a 180 0, that is, with the open side facing the bottom pot, from its outer peripheral surface a complementary to the annular groove 26 annular bead 28 projects, which upon insertion of the chamber 14 in the plug member 12 in the annular groove 26 locked. The drying-active substance contained in the chamber 14 is secured against falling out of the chamber by the above-mentioned closure disk 18, the closure disk 18 is in turn simply held by flanging the free edge of the chamber using a heated tool.

The - in the known dry substance sealing plug simply formed by a moisture or water vapor permeable cardboard disc - sealing disc 18 has a special design in the closure according to the invention. It is namely from a more stable outer washer 30 made of cardboard, plastic or the like. Material formed on the upper, i.e. the inner surface facing the drying active substance 16 has a moisture-permeable or water-vapor-permeable and / or perforated transparent continuous, i.e. also the opening in the annular disk sealing plastic film 32 is laminated, which encloses the substance 16 in the chamber without hindering the passage of moisture from the container to be sealed into the chamber, but also allows the color of the drying-active substance to be observed.

The surface of the ring disk 30 which is visible when looking at the underside of the sealing plug 10 is - which is to be illustrated in FIG. 4 by cross hatching - in the reference color, ie depending on the definition, either in the color which is the fully drying substance or the color , which she has colored after exhaustion of her moisture absorption capacity. The color change of the drying substance that occurs when the drying effectiveness of the substance 16 is exhausted is then compared to the reference color on the surrounding surface of the ring disk 30 clearly and unambiguously recognizable, so that the effectiveness or functionality of the container filling to be secured by the sealing plug 10 according to the invention can be clearly assessed with regard to an impairment due to the effects of moisture.

It can be seen that modifications and developments of the described embodiment can be implemented within the scope of the inventive concept. These modifications can relate to the manner in which the chamber 14 is closed and the reference color applied. It would be easily conceivable, for example, that the material of the chamber 14 is colored in the reference color overall by correspondingly adding a color pigment to the plastic material. It is also easily possible to apply the reference color to the visible front part of the chamber using the screen printing process or to print on the plastic film itself. It is only essential that in the chamber 14 receiving the drying substance 16 there is a window visible when the closure has been removed, through which the color of the substance 16 can be seen, the actual window opening allowing the observation of the substance being colored by a reference color Area is surrounded so that a direct comparison of the color of the substance with the reference color is possible.
