Definitions
- the invention relates to an electrostatic paint spray gun according to the preamble of claim 1.
- paint spray guns have been known for a long time and are available on the market.
- a ring transformer is fed with the voltage coming from the mains or a power supply, the high-voltage output of which is connected to the first stage of a high-voltage cascade, the cascade end removed from the ring transformer forming the high-voltage output and via a line to the gun high-voltage electrode communicates.
- the cascade is generally constructed in such a way that it has two columns of capacitors and a corresponding row of diodes opposite each other.
- the high-voltage output of the cascade is connected to spirally arranged resistors and an insulated line, namely the feed wire leading to the high-voltage electrode, the region of the feed wire adjacent to the high-voltage output being spirally wound.
- the transformer, the high-voltage cascade, the resistors and the spirally wound strand part are cast with a casting compound, thus embedded in an insulating material body, usually of a cylindrical shape.
- a casting compound thus embedded in an insulating material body, usually of a cylindrical shape.
- the curing temperature for the casting compound is not higher than 58 ° C., because the insulating tube of the co-cast strand area cannot tolerate a higher temperature.
- the invention is therefore based on the object of improving electrostatic paint spray guns of the type mentioned at the outset in such a way that the insulation security is increased considerably without making construction and production more complex and without increasing them.
- a first solution to this problem results from the characterizing features of patent claim 1. This solution leads to a particularly high level of insulation security and, moreover, to the fact that the electrode feed wire is pluggable in the insulating material body and can therefore be replaced.
- 10 denotes a transformer and 11 a high-voltage cascade, these two components being arranged coaxially one behind the other and cast into a common insulating body 12 having a cylindrical shape.
- This insulating body 12 is inserted in a known manner into the gun barrel of the electrostatic paint spray gun, not shown. From the rear end face of the insulating body 12, two connecting pins 13 protrude for connecting the low-voltage side (primary coil) of the transformer 10 to the power line, from the front end face of the insulating body a sheathed supply strand 14, which also supplies the high voltage supplied by the high-voltage side output of the cascade 11 not shown - feeds the paint spray gun.
- the high-voltage output 11a of the high-voltage cascade 11 faces the transformer 10 and the low-voltage input 11b faces away from the transformer 10.
- the output line 15 of the transformer 10 therefore leads axially parallel to the cascade 11 along this and opens into the transformer 10 kill turned low voltage input 11b of the cascade 11.
- This is the line 15 is a non-sheathed wire, its guidance in the insulating body 12 is not a problem because the voltage is still comparatively low.
- it is much more problematic because it is about isolating an output voltage of the cascade 11 of, for example, 90 kV, the routing and design of the high-voltage output of the cascade.
- a tube 16 which is also made of insulating material, is cast into the insulating body 12 and is designed as a plug receptacle at its end facing the transformer 10, ie a metallic plug receptacle 17 is pressed into the end bore 16a of the tube 16.
- a lead wire 18 leading from the high-voltage end 11a of the cascade 11 leads via known output resistors 19 to the plug receptacle 17 and is conductively connected to it, for example by soldering.
- the other end of the tube 16 opens onto the front end face of the insulating body 12, and from this open end the electrode feed wire 14 is inserted into the tube, the front end of the wire 14a being stripped and inserted into the connector receptacle 17 under pressure, as is the case this is best seen in Fig. 2.
- An O-ring 20 which is pushed on and pressed into an annular groove adjacent to the tube mouth serves to achieve a secure hold of the strand 14 in the tube 16.
- the high-voltage cascade 11 can have the usual structure with two columns of capacitors and intervening diodes, but it is expedient to arrange the diodes in a zigzag arrangement only on one side of the two capacitor columns, because on the diode-free side there is thus a free space between the two capacitor columns arises, which is used to attach the tube 16. This results in a very compact structure, so that the diameter of the insulating body 12 does not have to be chosen larger than in conventional arrangements without such a tube 16.
- the tube 16 can be made of a material that forms an intimate connection with the potting compound of the insulating body, so that there is no gap between the tube and the potting compound after potting. With the help of this structure, it is now also possible to cure the casting compound at substantially higher temperatures.
- the electrode feed wire is then inserted into the tube only after the insulating body has hardened and inserted with its stripped end into the plug receptacle.
- an insulation liquid can be poured into the tube in an air-free manner and then a liquid-tight and air-tight seal can be achieved through the O-ring 20.
- FIGS. 4 and 5 show an embodiment according to the second solution according to the invention.
- the high-voltage cascade 11 is arranged relative to the transformer 10 in the manner known per se, namely in such a way that the low-voltage input 11b faces the transformer 10 and is directly connected to its output.
- the high-voltage output 11a of the cascade 11 remote from the transformer is designed with spirally arranged resistors 19 and is connected to the electrode feed wire 14, which is also spirally wound in the connection region (extension of the spark gap).
- the transformer 10, the high-voltage cascade 11, the resistors 19 and the spirally wound region 14b of the electrode feed strand 14 are cast into the insulating body 12. As indicated in FIG. 5, there is between the casting compound of the body 12 and the feed.
- annular gap 21 which extends to the connection end of the strand 14 (in Fig. 5, only a portion of the annular gap 21 is shown for the sake of simplicity).
- This annular gap 21 is filled with an insulating oil and sealed at its mouth end by an O-ring 22.
- O-ring 22 With 23 is also co-molded holding cross made of insulating material for fixing the resistors and the strand spiral.
- the provision of the gap 21 can be carried out as follows.
- a conventional, temperature-curing compound is used as the potting compound, and a wire covered with a conventional insulating tube is used as the electrode feed strand.
- a comparatively high temperature is now selected for curing the casting compound, with the result that the desired annular gap 21 is formed due to the different temperature shrinkage behavior of the curing compound and the insulating tube.
- the gap is then vented in a vacuum chamber and, at the same time, oil under vacuum is introduced into the gap formed, ie the oil is even automatically drawn into the gap by capillary action. As tests have shown, this insulating oil does not come out of the gap 21, or only after an extremely long time, so that the free gap opening between the casting compound and the insulating tube could be left open.
- a safer and more permanent insulation is achieved, however, in that the tightly fitting O-ring 22 is applied to the strand 14 and the gap opening is thereby closed.
- 80 ° C can be given as a numerical example for the high curing temperature mentioned the, based on conventional materials for the potting compound and the stranded insulating sleeve, such as acid-anhydride-hardened epoxy resin, thermosetting, and polyethylene.

Description
The invention relates to an electrostatic paint spray gun according to the preamble of claim 1. Such paint spray guns have been known for a long time and are available on the market.
In these known electrostatic paint spray guns, a ring transformer is fed with the voltage coming from the mains or a power supply, the high-voltage output of which is connected to the first stage of a high-voltage cascade, the cascade end removed from the ring transformer forming the high-voltage output and via a line to the gun high-voltage electrode communicates. The cascade is generally constructed in such a way that it has two columns of capacitors and a corresponding row of diodes opposite each other. The high-voltage output of the cascade is connected to spirally arranged resistors and an insulated line, namely the feed wire leading to the high-voltage electrode, the region of the feed wire adjacent to the high-voltage output being spirally wound. The transformer, the high-voltage cascade, the resistors and the spirally wound strand part are cast with a casting compound, thus embedded in an insulating material body, usually of a cylindrical shape. In the manufacture of the insulating material body, however, it is known to ensure that the curing temperature for the casting compound is not higher than 58 ° C., because the insulating tube of the co-cast strand area cannot tolerate a higher temperature. In other words, there is an incompatibility between the isolators hose and the casting compound, to the extent that they have different temperature shrinkage behavior, with the result that if the curing temperature is too high, a gap forms at least over partial areas between the insulating hose and the hardened casting compound, which experience has shown leads to breakdowns. This inevitably results in a high failure rate when manufacturing such cascades.
The invention is therefore based on the object of improving electrostatic paint spray guns of the type mentioned at the outset in such a way that the insulation security is increased considerably without making construction and production more complex and without increasing them.
A first solution to this problem results from the characterizing features of patent claim 1. This solution leads to a particularly high level of insulation security and, moreover, to the fact that the electrode feed wire is pluggable in the insulating material body and can therefore be replaced.
A second solution to the problem arises from the characterizing features of claim 5. This solution, in which the high-voltage cascade is arranged in the usual way, is characterized by particular simplicity and low manufacturing costs; this applies in particular if the production takes place according to the method according to claim 7.

- Fig. 5 is an enlarged detail of the high-voltage end of the cascade.
In the embodiment according to FIGS. 1 to 3, 10 (FIG. 1) denotes a transformer and 11 a high-voltage cascade, these two components being arranged coaxially one behind the other and cast into a common insulating
It should also be mentioned that the
Despite the simple manufacturing process, a high and permanent insulation security is achieved without the risk of breakdowns in the endangered area of the end face of the insulating body, which faces the electrode.
Figures 4 and 5 show an embodiment according to the second solution according to the invention. The high-
The fact that a
The provision of the
