After a predetermined time, for example 10 to 15 minutes, the curve "fades" to signal that the values are no longer current.
- the U-shaped tank system 10 shown in FIG. 1 consists of the tanks 12 and 14, which are connected to one another via at least one channel 16. There is water 18 in the tank system 10. With the aid of a blower 20, which is connected to the tanks 12, 14 via a valve arrangement 22, one tank 12, 14 can be pressurized and the other vented, as shown at 24, so that the ship experiences a moment about its longitudinal axis. - the stability value is calculated in time intervals of, for example, 2 seconds (the time interval can be chosen as desired depending on the effort to be borne or necessary). Due to the inertia behavior of the overall system, the application of a corresponding test torque leads to the resulting inclination angle with a time delay.
- the calculated values for stability therefore tend to follow a curve that only changes into a constant straight line after a certain time. It can be seen from the illustration in FIG. 2 that it can be determined after a relatively short time whether the curve connecting the individual stability values results in a straight line and this is sufficiently above the minimum value GM min . If this is the case, the skipper can stop the experiment and initiate it for the other side of the ship.
- the determination of the stability values for the other ship side can begin after a certain post-oscillation phase, as indicated at 42.
- the test is finished when the skipper takes the result from the tendency of the values GM that the stability determined is of a correct size.
- This point in time is at the latest t 1, when the same amount of liquid is again present in the two tanks 12, 14 is much earlier than the point in time t 2, which would occur if the attempt were made with a larger inclination angle. It can be seen that the method according to the invention saves at least 40% of the time in the example shown.
- the values GM 'for both sides of the ship are at the same level. This is not the case in the representation according to FIG. 3. It can be seen that the stability values GM 'of the first curve are higher than those of the second curve. This means that there are any disturbance variables on the ship that affect the heeling attempt.
- the values for the first and second curves are compared with one another in the computer 32 and can be made known via a display or alarm device (not shown) so that the interference is eliminated. It can also be seen from the second curve for the stability values in FIG. 3 that, as indicated by dash-dotted lines, no constant straight line is obtained but a certain fluctuation is present. Such fluctuations can be caused by gusts of wind, for example.
- the diagrams or individual values can be printed out via a printer 44.
- the volume counter 38 can also be used to determine the amount of liquid in each of the tanks 12, 14.
- the volume values are also fed into the computer 32, which carries out a plausibility determination Checking the proper functioning of the level measuring system 26, 28, 30 for the tanks 12, 14.
- the skipper can basically end the test at t 1/2 , since there are obviously no disturbances which impair the determination of GM'.
- the duration of the experiment is then particularly short. If the values for GM 'after the return to the angle of inclination 0 deviate from the previously determined ones, as shown in FIG. 3, a longer test period is necessary, ie also a heeling test with the ship tilting to the other side.
- FIG. 4 shows a display which is denoted overall by 50. It is located in a clearly visible position in the command post of a ship. It contains a large rectangular display field 52 for the stability of the ship, an overlying flat field 54 for the cargo symmetry and to the left of the display field 52 and below the display field 54 a vertical display field 56 for the displacement.
- the values determined for the ship's stability are shown in display field 52 with the aid of vertical bars 58 of equal length shown, which together form a curve 60 from which the tendency can be determined.
- the minimum value GM min for ship stability is indicated in a lower field 62. It can be seen that curve 60 is clearly above minimum value 62. After a period of time, for example 10 to 15 minutes, curve 60 fades to indicate that it is out of date. If necessary, a further heeling test is then carried out.
- the bars 58 can be made visible with the aid of suitable, electronically controlled display means known per se, preferably in color, so that there is good visibility even from a greater distance.
- an optical marking 64 which migrates transversely with the center of gravity of the load. In the case of charge symmetry, it is located in the middle at the marking 66. The migration of the center of gravity is determined by measurement on the heeling compensation tank, for example by a level measurement described above. If the marking 64 reaches the end fields 68 or 70, it is indicated that the compensation capacity of the tanks has been exhausted.
- a flashing or the like can indicate at an earlier point in time that the compensation tanks are approaching their capacity limit, for example when 70% of the compensation capacity has been used up.
- an optical column 72 In the display field 56 there is an optical column 72, the height of which changes with the displacement, the displacement being determined by conventional means. If the displacement reaches a maximum permissible value, an automatic warning is given, for example by changing the color of the column 72 or by blinking.
- the heel angle for starboard and port is shown in digital displays 74, 76.
- An additional digital display 78 is used to indicate the trim angle.
Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method for determining the stability of loaded ships according to the preamble of claim 1.
The metacentric height GM of a ship is a measure of its stability, ie the ability of the ship to withstand heeling moments. With very small angles of inclination, there is a linear relationship between the angle of inclination and the metacentric height according to the formula
where M is the moment acting on the ship, ρ is the angle of inclination and D is the displacement. The metacentric height is measured after the completion of a ship and represents a typical size, as well as its displacement.
However, as is known, both the metacentric height and the displacement are strongly influenced by the loading. In order to avoid critical conditions, it is of great value for the ship's captain to know whether the current loading is impairing the ship's stability too much. Due to the ship-specific metacentric height, a minimum value is specified by the authorities, which the ship's command must not fall below. The type of loading and the weight of the individual goods can be used to roughly calculate a value for the current metacentric height. However, this calculation is subject to strong errors. The goods are often declared with incorrect weight information. In the case of ship cargo in the form of containers, the center of gravity of the containers cannot be determined by a pure weight measurement. Often the loading and unloading does not take place according to a predetermined plan, so that even if the weights of the individual goods are known, the calculated metacentric height does not correspond to the actual height.
It is known to determine the current metacentric height by a so-called heeling test. Here, the ship is loaded with liquid on one side and the metacentric height at a certain angle of inclination and a certain test moment is calculated according to the above formula. In ships which are equipped with a tank stabilization system, such a method can be accomplished relatively simply by conveying the water or another liquid to the tank on one side of the ship with the aid of suitable conveying means. For safety reasons, the heeling test is carried out on both sides of the ship, since the measurement values can be falsified as a result of automatic winds that are not switched off, wind influences and the like. The attempt to heel the company therefore takes a relatively long time. In addition, there is a risk that the falsifying influences will not be noticed immediately or not at all.
The invention has for its object to provide a method for determining the stability of loaded ships, which can be carried out in the shortest possible time. This object is achieved according to the invention by the method according to the features of the characterizing part of patent claim 1.
In the method according to the invention, the changing test torque and the angle of inclination are measured continuously. For example, the amount of liquid present in a tank of the tank system can be determined by a level measurement, preferably in one embodiment of the invention based on the principle of sound measurement. A sound measurement can only determine the distance of the liquid level from the sensor, but with the aid of the inclination measured by the inclinometer and the geometry of the tank, corrective factors can be determined so that the amount of liquid in a tank and thus the test moment can be determined with sufficient accuracy can be. The ships also always have a device with which the respective displacement can be determined. With the help of the continuously measured values and the determined displacement value, the values for the metacentric height can therefore also be continuously calculated. They are stored in the method according to the invention and their tendency is displayed with a display device.
The method according to the invention takes advantage of the fact known per se that there is a linear relationship between the angle of inclination and the test torque in the region of small angles of inclination. If the values for the metacentric height are shown in a time diagram, a constant results after a certain transition behavior, which must be above the minimum value for the metacentric height for the ship to have sufficient stability. With a time diagram, the minimum value for the metacentric height can be displayed as a straight line. If a value for the measured metacentric height approaches this minimum value or even falls below it, a warning signal is preferably generated.
At the beginning of the experiment, there is a curve-like tendency of the measured values for the metacentric height at very small angles of inclination, since there are time-related delays between the application of a moment and the reaction of the ship to this moment. If no external disturbances such as gusts of wind or the like occur, the constant tendency of the values for the metacentric height becomes apparent relatively quickly, so that the skipper can abort the heeling attempt after a short time and initiate it for the other side of the ship. If the heeling attempt is carried out properly, the stability of the ship can therefore be determined within a very short time.
As already mentioned, the stability is determined for both sides of the ship for safety reasons. According to an embodiment of the method according to the invention, the Ship stability values for one side of the ship are compared with the values for the other side of the ship and a warning signal is generated if the values differ.
Due to the tendency to show the values for the ship's stability, a clear qualitative assessment of the test can also be carried out with regard to possible interference effects, which are caused, for example, by wind gusts, load moments, ballast movements and the like.
According to one embodiment of the invention, the liquid is conveyed using compressed air. An alternative embodiment provides that the liquid is conveyed by means of pumps. In order to determine whether the determined test moments actually apply, a quantity measurement can take place in parallel according to one embodiment of the invention. The amount of liquid flowing through the channel between the sides of the tank is a measure of the amount on each side. The values for the test moment obtained in this way can be compared with the values determined by the level measurement. If there is a certain deviation, the accuracy of the level measuring system can be checked. Likewise, a level measurement can always be done for both sides of the tank can be made simultaneously. The quantity gained in one tank section must correspond to the decrease in the other tank section. This also allows the function of the level measuring device to be checked.
If possible, the GM values are presented according to ergonomic and didactic aspects, so that the ship's command can be given precise and understandable information in a striking, easily understandable form and at a greater distance. For example, the last measured GM curve is shown in a relatively large display over time during the last usable test, for example by displaying the measured values as vertical bars of approximately the same height, the sequence of which shows a curve profile. After a predetermined time, for example 10 to 15 minutes, the curve "fades" to signal that the values are no longer current.
Such a display can be combined with display representations for the load symmetry, for example by arranging a movable optical mark in a field above the display field for ship stability, which moves according to the shift in the center of gravity of the load, the shift of the Focus on the amount of liquid in the tanks is determined, which is known to cause heeling compensation. If the compensation capacity of the heel compensation tanks is exhausted, a warning signal can be generated optically and / or acoustically, for example for port and starboard. Furthermore, a warning, for example by additional flashing, can be given when the capacity is approaching, for example by 70%. Finally, in combination with the display described, a displacement display can also be carried out with the aid of a colored column which can be adjusted in height.

If there is a different volume distribution of the
In the representation according to FIG. 2, the stability value is calculated in time intervals of, for example, 2 seconds (the time interval can be chosen as desired depending on the effort to be borne or necessary). Due to the inertia behavior of the overall system, the application of a corresponding test torque leads to the resulting inclination angle with a time delay. The calculated values for stability therefore tend to follow a curve that only changes into a constant straight line after a certain time. As can be seen from the course of the curve for the angle of inclination, the determination of the stability values for the other ship side can begin after a certain post-oscillation phase, as indicated at 42. The test is finished when the skipper takes the result from the tendency of the values GM that the stability determined is of a correct size. This point in time is at the latest t 1, when the same amount of liquid is again present in the two
In the embodiment according to FIG. 2 it can be seen that the values GM 'for both sides of the ship are at the same level. This is not the case in the representation according to FIG. 3. It can be seen that the stability values GM 'of the first curve are higher than those of the second curve. This means that there are any disturbance variables on the ship that affect the heeling attempt. The values for the first and second curves are compared with one another in the
In addition to the display on the
If the course of the data for GM 'is as shown in FIG. 2, the skipper can basically end the test at t 1/2 , since there are obviously no disturbances which impair the determination of GM'. The duration of the experiment is then particularly short. If the values for GM 'after the return to the angle of inclination 0 deviate from the previously determined ones, as shown in FIG. 3, a longer test period is necessary, ie also a heeling test with the ship tilting to the other side.
It is located in a clearly visible position in the command post of a ship. It contains a large
The values determined for the ship's stability are shown in
In the
In the
The heel angle for starboard and port is shown in
