Abstract
New substrates with visible information attached to them result in non-identifiable, for example unreadable photocopies, if colorant combinations of at least one emitting and at least one remitting colorant are used to attach the information, the color shade of which is similar or the same when viewed with unnoticed fluorescence.
Description
The invention relates to substrates protected against unauthorized copying and to processes for their production.
It has long been desired to have effective protection against unauthorized copying. There are a number of different suggestions in the literature. Most of them rely on coloring the background of the original to reduce the contrast. Since the eye and the sensor in the machine have different sensitivities for the brightness values of the colors, attempts were made to darken the background when copying for the sensor relatively more than for the eye. Both remitting dyes, in particular shades of red, and fluorescent dyes have been mentioned for this. Another way is described, for example, in US Pat. No. 4,427,627. Here, the original is coated with a photoelectrically switchable layer, which becomes dark when exposed. The disadvantage of this, however, is that the original is bright Light can no longer be read. All these suggestions have not been able to prevail, probably because all seeing is based on the perception of contrasts, which is why it will always be difficult to match the readability of the original and its copy security by reducing the contrast. Ultimately, only an illegible template is copy-proof.
With the introduction of color copiers, the problem has become more acute. Colors convey quickly recognizable information and are therefore widely used for identification, identification, securing of objects, etc. A particular problem is the imitation of securities, ID cards or the like. through color copies.
According to the invention, a new method for copy protection of colored originals is now presented, which takes advantage of the difference in the sensitivity of the eye and the sensor located in the machine in a surprising manner. While the eye does not distinguish between remission and emission radiation, and perceives both as an overall color impression, the sensor only measures the absorption and is blind to the emission radiation. This leads to a difference in the color location determination compared to the optical impression and the surprising effect of the color identity for the eye or the sensor.
Since the brilliant color impression of a fluorescent color cannot be reproduced by mixing remission colors, this difference remains even if if you correct the image locally, for example by correcting the filter settings. It could only be compensated for by a toner that contains a fluorescent dye. This would require a sensor system that differentiates between emitting and remitting colors.
The perception of a change in color location with the eye is relative. By comparison with the initial nuance, very small changes can still be recognized with certainty, whereas in the absence of comparable nuances even relatively large changes, especially in the brightness, can no longer be seen with certainty.
The invention is now directed to selecting an emitting and a remitting colorant in such a way that the nuance when viewed when fluorescence is not perceived is similar or identical.
The invention relates to substrates with visible information thereon, which are protected against unauthorized copying, which are characterized in that such a colorant combination of at least one emitting and at least one remitting colorant is used to apply the information, the color shade of which is observed when the fluorescence is not perceived is similar or the same, the information being applied by the colorant combination such that the different color fields touch or are close to one another.
The invention further relates to methods for protecting substrates with visible information attached to them against unauthorized copying, which is characterized in that such a colorant combination of at least one emitting and at least one remitting colorant is used to apply the information, the color shade of which is observed when not being perceived Fluorescence is similar or the same, the information being applied by the colorant combination so that the different color fields touch or are close to one another.
In the case of a substrate according to the invention, a pattern made from a colorant combination according to the invention, if recognizable in the original, appears in the copy as a monochrome spot. You can use multiple colorant combinations at the same time to create complex color samples.
The reflective colorant can be composed of several colorants, which results in the possibility of an exact adaptation of the shade to the retroreflection spectrum of the emissive partner.
Suitable colorants for combinations are usually designed so that their absorption spectra look similar in position and band shape. The absorption maxima should not be more than 30 nm apart, preferably no more than 20 nm apart. The half-wave width of the dyes in solution, ie the spectral width of the longest-wave band at half maximum extinction (ε / 2 at λ max. ) Should be <150 nm, preferably <100 nm.
The fluorescent colorant can also consist of mixtures, which, however, must be structured in such a way that no absorption occurs within the emission band. It will preferably be colorants which absorb similarly to the reflective colorant.
