Definitions
- the invention relates to portable boxes for informing the users of a bus network on the waiting times at the stops of this network, or at least on the waiting times at at least one stop on at least one bus routes belonging to this network.
- bus here designates not only the buses themselves, but also similar vehicles of urban surface public transport which are subjected to the vagaries of the urban automobile traffic in the same way as the vehicles of the private individuals.
- This portable box works satisfactorily, as long as the bus drivers have a regular driving, influenced only by the conditions of the urban traffic.
- a user who has consulted his portable box while the driver is driving slowly will therefore report to the bus stop at the time of arrival initially planned, that is to say after the actual arrival of the bus. , so that this user may then miss the bus.
- the bus will arrive at its next stop after the arrival time which was initially foreseeable while the driver was driving fast.
- the present invention aims in particular to overcome these drawbacks.
- FIG. 1 schematically shows a line 1 of buses belonging to an urban network, traversed by buses 2 which are represented here by small triangles oriented in the direction of their progression.
- Line 1 is divided into two routes (i.e. two directions) A and B in opposite directions which each include different stops 3.
- a central management station 4 collects, by radio or other means, data relating to the position of each bus 2 traveling on each route A or B line 1 and all other lines of the bus network.
- the central management station 4 works out from these data radio messages which each contain in particular an identification of each bus 2 and data representative of the position of this bus 2, which makes it possible in particular to know the distance d between said bus and next stop 3 on the route followed by this bus.
- radio messages are transmitted by the central management station 4 and are received in particular by individual portable boxes 10 (FIG. 3) which are in the possession of the users of the bus network.
- the waiting time for the next bus at the stop selected by the user corresponds to a certain instant H0 initially scheduled for the arrival of this bus at the stop in question.
- This arrival time initially planned H0 (or any other equivalent datum) is stored in memory 14, as well as the corresponding stop of the bus network, as well as the bus route comprising this stop and the bus line to which this route belongs.
- the portable unit 10 continues to receive radio messages cyclically from the central management station 4.

- the microprocessor 15 also controls the operation of the screen 16 and displays on this screen the current waiting time of the next bus 2 at the stop 3 considered, and / or the expected arrival time H of this next bus: thus, the user does not have to manipulate the keyboard 17 to check the updated waiting time of the next bus.
- This limit may possibly be different depending on whether H is before or after H0.
- the microprocessor 15 emits an audible signal by the loudspeaker 19, and it can also cause for example the display on the screen 16 of the waiting time T currently estimated for the next bus to the desired stop 3, that is, in the example considered, 5 min.
- This display is of course accompanied by sufficient explanatory data indicating for example to the user that the next bus to arrive at the desired stop 3 will be ahead of schedule and that it will arrive in 5 minutes.
- the microprocessor 15 uses the same example as above, if at 12:20 p.m., the microprocessor 15 considers that H is always equal to 10:30 a.m., then it does not trigger the operation of the loudspeaker 19 and the screen 16.
- the microprocessor 15 then causes an audible signal to be emitted by the speaker 19 and it simultaneously causes the display on the screen 16 of the waiting time T currently estimated for the next bus at the desired stop 3, that is, in the example considered, 3 min.
Abstract
Description
The invention relates to portable boxes for informing the users of a bus network on the waiting times at the stops of this network, or at least on the waiting times at at least one stop on at least one bus routes belonging to this network.
The word "bus" here designates not only the buses themselves, but also similar vehicles of urban surface public transport which are subjected to the vagaries of the urban automobile traffic in the same way as the vehicles of the private individuals.
- radio reception means for receiving over the air data enabling the abovementioned waiting times to be known,
- interrogation means operable by a user to access waiting information intended to inform this user at least about the waiting time of a certain bus at the stop considered on the route considered, this waiting information corresponding to a certain scheduled time of arrival of the bus in question at the stop in question,
- and interface means controlled by an electronic central unit for communicating said waiting information to the user.
Document WO-A-94/02923 describes an example of such a portable box.
This portable box works satisfactorily, as long as the bus drivers have a regular driving, influenced only by the conditions of the urban traffic.
But from time to time, it happens that a driver of a bus which initially had a calm and careful driving, suddenly starts to have a fast driving, or conversely that a driver who initially had a fast driving starts suddenly to have a slow driving, and this regardless of traffic conditions.
Such abrupt and unpredictable changes in conduct on the part of a bus driver render obsolete the previous predictions of the portable unit as to the expected time of arrival for the bus at a given stop.
Thus, when a bus driver suddenly switches from slow driving to fast driving, he will arrive at his next stop before the arrival time which was foreseeable when he drove slowly.
A user who has consulted his portable box while the driver is driving slowly will therefore report to the bus stop at the time of arrival initially planned, that is to say after the actual arrival of the bus. , so that this user may then miss the bus.
Conversely, if the driver has suddenly changed from fast driving to slow driving, the bus will arrive at its next stop after the arrival time which was initially foreseeable while the driver was driving fast.
Thus, a user who would have consulted his portable box while the driver was driving quickly will arrive at the bus stop at the time of arrival initially scheduled for the bus, and will have to wait unnecessarily at this stop.
The present invention aims in particular to overcome these drawbacks.
- memorize at least data representative of the instant of arrival H0 initially planned for the bus considered at the stop considered on the route considered, this instant H0 corresponding to the waiting information communicated to the user during the last interrogation of the box by this user,
- from the data received by the radio reception means, cyclically take into account data representative of an updated arrival time H provided for the bus considered at the stop considered on the route considered,
- and actuate the signaling means when the arrival times H and H0 differ by a duration AH greater than a certain limit.
Thanks to these provisions, if the waiting time and / or the time of arrival of the next bus, which were initially estimated and communicated to the user, turns out to be vitiated by a substantial error, then this user is warned that he must consult the portable unit again to find out the currently estimated waiting time and / or arrival time for the next bus.

As explained in detail in document WO-A-94/02923, a central management station 4 (FIG. 2) collects, by radio or other means, data relating to the position of each

- develop, from radio messages received from the
central management station 4, information relating to the waiting time of the next bus orbuses 2 at a givenstop 3 on a given route of the bus network, - and display this information on the
screen 16 upon interrogation of the user.
At the time of this display, the waiting time for the next bus at the stop selected by the user corresponds to a certain instant H0 initially scheduled for the arrival of this bus at the stop in question.
This arrival time initially planned H0 (or any other equivalent datum) is stored in
Among these radio messages, the
From these radio messages, the
When the difference ΔH between H and H0 (in absolute value) is greater than a certain limit, the
Preferably, the
- either a predetermined duration (for example: triggering of an audible signal as soon as the difference ΔH is greater than 3 min),
- or a relative duration, corresponding for example to a fraction of the time remaining until the arrival time H0 initially scheduled for the next bus (for example, triggering of an audible signal when AH is greater than 50% of the time T0 remaining to run until the arrival time H0 initially planned).
Cette limite peut éventuellement être différente suivant si H est antérieur ou postérieur à H0.This limit may possibly be different depending on whether H is before or after H0.
If necessary, it could even be envisaged to warn the user only if H is earlier than H0 (bus in advance), although this variant is not preferred.
- a fraction (for example 50%) of the time T0 which remains to run until the time of arrival H0 initially planned for the next bus, if this time remaining to run is greater than a first predetermined duration T1 (for example 5 mn) or if the updated arrival time H is later than the arrival time H0 initially planned for the next bus,
- and a second predetermined duration T2 (for example 30 seconds) when the time T0 remaining to run until the arrival time H initially scheduled for the next bus is less than the first predetermined duration T1 and that the time of arrival H currently planned for the next bus is earlier than the arrival time H0 initially planned.
One can imagine for example that a user of the bus network consults at 12:15 p.m. his
If, at 12:20 p.m., the
Cette durée T0 = 10 mn est supérieure à la première durée prédéterminée T1 = 5 mn, de sorte que le microprocesseur compare l'écart ΔH à la limite T0 x 50 % = 5 mn.This duration T0 = 10 min is greater than the first predetermined duration T1 = 5 min, so that the microprocessor compares the difference ΔH to the limit T0 x 50% = 5 min.
As ΔH reaches this limit, the
This display is of course accompanied by sufficient explanatory data indicating for example to the user that the next bus to arrive at the desired
Using the same example as above, if at 12:20 p.m., the
Par la suite, si par exemple à 12 h 26 le microprocesseur 15 estime que H = 12 h 29, alors ΔH = 1 mn et T0 = 4 mn.Thereafter, if for example at 12:26 pm the
Cette durée T0 = 4 mn est inférieure à la première durée prédéterminée T1 = 5 mn, de sorte que le microprocesseur 15 compare ΔH = 1 mn à la deuxième durée prédéterminée T2 = 30 s.This duration T0 = 4 min is less than the first predetermined duration T1 = 5 min, so that the
As the difference ΔH = 1 min is greater than T2 = 30 s, the
- a first sound signal (for example a single relatively long signal, of the order of 2 to 5 s), when the difference ΔH is greater than the abovementioned limit, but H is later than H0 (late bus),
- a second sound signal (for example a series of short spaced signals) when ΔH is greater than the aforementioned limit, and that H is earlier than H0 (bus in advance) the aforementioned limit being relatively slightly exceeded by ΔH (for example, ΔH does not not exceed this limit by more than 10%),
- and a third sound signal (for example a series of short close signals) when ΔH is greater than the aforementioned limit, and when H is earlier than H0 (bus in advance) the aforementioned limit being relatively largely exceeded by ΔH (for example, ΔH exceeds this limit by more than 10%).
- les informations relatives au temps d'attente et/ou au temps d'arrivée des prochains autobus aux différents arrêts du réseau seraient élaborées par le poste central de gestion 4 et non par chaque boîtier portatif 10, ces informations étant ensuite transmises aux différents boîtiers portatifs par voie hertzienne ;
- chaque boîtier portatif 10 permettrait d'informer un usager uniquement sur les temps d'attente à un arrêt prédéterminé du réseau d'autobus, le clavier 17 étant alors simplifié, voire réduit à un seul bouton marche/arrêt ;
- the information relating to the waiting time and / or the arrival time of the next buses at the various network stops would be prepared by the
central management station 4 and not by eachportable unit 10, this information then being transmitted to the various portable units over the air; - each
portable unit 10 would make it possible to inform a user only of the waiting times at a predetermined stop of the bus network, thekeyboard 17 then being simplified, or even reduced to a single on / off button; -
screen 16 would be replaced by another interface, for example a speech synthesizer; - the different sound signals which can be emitted by the
loudspeaker 19 are distinguished from one another not only by their modulation, but by their frequency or both by their modulation and their frequency; - the
loudspeaker 19 would be replaced or assisted by a light signal transmitter and / or a vibrator capable of emitting vibrations perceptible by a user carrying thehousing 10 on him, this light signal transmitter and / or this vibrator being adapted where appropriate to emit different light and / or vibrational signals depending on the situation, these various signals being distinguished from each other if necessary by their frequency (wavelength) and / or by their modulation; - the waiting information given by the
unit 10 would not relate to the next bus, but would relate to a specific bus which would not be the next to arrive at the stop in question.
