Abstract

The invention relates to a method for detecting overlaps of flat mail items using optical measuring means for measuring the mail item height of the individual mail items. According to the invention, an overlap is reported in the event of a determined jump in height while the mail items pass through the optical measuring system and repeated height measurement. Taking into account the opening angle μ of the transmitter diodes S, the transmitter diodes S and associated receiver diodes E, which do not influence one another, are advantageously evaluated simultaneously and in succession.
