    Claims (11)

    1. A device for measuring the thickness of a document stack (17) composed of several sheets, which can subsequently be supplied to a records/paper shredder (2), a binder or similar,
      with the device (1) comprising an upper region (7), a central region (8) and a lower region (9),
      with the upper region (7) being provided with a substantially V-shaped notch (10),
      with the central region (8) comprising a slit (11), the width of which corresponds to the maximum permitted thickness of the document stack (17), and with the lower region (9) having a cavity (12) open towards the slit (11) of the central region (8),
      characterised in that the slit (11) in the central region (8) tapers towards the upper region (9), with the minimum width of the slit (11) defining the maximum permitted thickness of the document stack (17).
    2. A device according to Claim 1,
      wherein the diameter of the cavity (12) of the lower region possesses a greater width and a greater diameter than the maximum width of the slit (11).
    3. A device according to Claim 1 or 2,
      wherein the cavity (12) comprises a substantially circular cross section.
    4. A combination consisting of a records/paper shredder (2) and a device (1) according to Claims 1-3,
      wherein the device (1) is an integral part of the records/paper shredder (2).
    5. A combination consisting of a records/paper shredder (2) and a device (1) according to Claims 1-3,
      wherein the device (1) is disposed in a feed gap (5), via which the document stack (17) is supplied to the records/paper shredder (2).
    6. A combination according to Claim 5,
      wherein the device (1) is disposed in the lateral region (16) of the feed gap (5), via which the document stack (17) is supplied to the records/paper shredder (2).
    7. A combination according to Claim 5 or 6,
      wherein a channel (6), into which the device (1) can be inserted, is provided in the lateral region (16) of the feed gap (5).
    8. A combination according to Claim 7,
      wherein the device (1) can be clipped into the channel (6).
    9. A combination according to Claim 8,
      wherein the outer lateral parts (15) of the device (1) in each case comprise a snap-in element (13), which interact with corresponding snap-in elements (14) in the channel (6).
    10. A device according to Claim 1,
      wherein the device (1) is produced as an injection moulded part.
