Description
The invention relates to a method of manufacturing a decorative panel comprising a support, in particular made of wood, and a surface covering decorative obtained by a sublimation treatment using a sheet thermal transfer printing of the printed side on the support.
The decorative surface coating processes printed by sublimation on textile supports and on surfaces natural or synthetic materials, especially wood, ceramic, plastic or metal, are well known. The temperature and pressure required to ensure thermal transfer of the decoration from the printing sheet to the basic support depends on the nature of the support material, and the type of coloring matters of the decoration. The state of the art in this area can be illustrated by documents EP-A-14901 and US-A-4 581 255. It is thus possible to produce by printing of photographic or decorative reproductions on objects or supports which must subsequently withstand the heat test, in particular articles or objects used in cooking, cleaning, or plates heating. The supports used are generally rigid panels, or metal strips having a perfectly flat and continuous surface to receive the decoration during the sublimation operation.
The methods of manufacturing decorative panels known to date, and using sublimation printing, not suitable for making certain kinds of imitation tile coverings, due to the problem of the interstices delimiting the various tiles to constitute the visible joints. These seals must indeed be positioned below the plan of the visible faces of the tiles.
It has also been proposed to produce decorative panels by sticking directly ceramic tiles on a wooden panel, but this artisanal process subsequently requires finishing work to achieve the joints with a special binder or cement, followed by thorough cleaning tiles.
Another known solution consists in plating a sheet decorative imitation tiles on a wooden support. Plating is done by gluing with a special glue, but its implementation is complicated and expensive.
A first object of the invention consists in developing a new method of manufacture of a decorative panel imitating tiles, easy to install artwork.
A second object of the invention consists in making a decorative panel imitation of tiles resistant to thermal and mechanical shocks, and benefiting from a reduced manufacturing cost.
- grooving the surface of the support beforehand to obtain a set of elementary tiles separated from each other by grooves having a depth which may be between 0.1 mm and 5 mm,
- applying by spraying a primary layer of paint of uniform thickness on the grooved face of the support to cover the tiles and the separation grooves, said paint having chemical constituents of the same nature as the sublimable dyes of the printed face of the sheet of impression, which has a flexible structure,
- place the printed side of said sheet on the primary layer of paint after the latter has dried,
- perform the sublimation operation by means of a press operating at a pressure greater than 3 bars, and at a temperature between 170 ° C and 250 ° C, and bearing on the unprinted side of the printing sheet,
- remove the printing sheet at the end of the heat transfer operation from the decorations to the primary layer of paint,
- and finally coating the printed surface of the support by means of a layer of protective varnish based on a thermosetting resin resistant to heat and having a viscosity suitable for penetration into the grooves so as to constitute, after drying of the varnish, a imitation tile panel with visible joints and a specific decoration perfectly protected against mechanical and thermal shocks.
Preferably, a router is used to make the grooves, the the router being chosen and adjusted to make profile grooves predetermined. The grooves have a U-shaped profile with a straight or curved bottom.
To get the best effect from printing when processing sublimation, the width of the grooves (14) is advantageously between 1 mm and 10 mm. The joint finish is then obtained automatically during the complete coating of the printed face of the support by the layer of surface protection varnish.
The support can be formed by a wooden panel, wood particles agglomerated, or plastic.
- a support in particular made of wood, having a flat surface equipped with a series of grooves having a U-profile with a straight or curved bottom, to delimit a set of elementary tiles, each groove having a depth of between 0.1 mm and 5 mm , and a width between 1 mm and 10 mm,
- a primary layer of paint homogeneously coated on the grooved surface of the support, and intended to receive by thermal transfer an impression of sublimable dyes having chemical constituents of the same nature as those used in said painting of the primary layer,
- a layer of protective varnish based on thermosetting resin applied to the entire printed face of the support to form a protective coating with high mechanical and thermal resistance.
- la figure 1 montre le support après l'opération de défonçage ;

- la figure 5 montre la phase de transfert thermique par effet de sublimation ;
- la figure 6 illustre le panneau après enduction de la couche de vernis de protection ;
- Figure 1 shows the support after the routing operation;

With reference to FIGS. 1 and 2, a
1 mm et 10 mm.The
In FIG. 3, a primary layer of paint is applied by spraying.
18 on the
sublimation.After drying of the
couche d'enduction imprimée du support 10.The sublimation operation illustrated in FIG. 5 is carried out by means of a
In FIG. 6, a layer of
After the
It is clear that the shape and the size of the
