In der Praxis treten in Folge der Miniaturisierung die Probleme auf, dass es mittels herkömmlicher board-to-board-Steckverbinder nicht möglich ist, minimalste Leiterplattenabstände korrekt zu kontaktieren. Auch der Abstand der einzelnen Kontaktreihen bei einer board-to-board-Verbindung bedingt häufig das Problem, dass eine der Steckseiten als Steckerstiftseite und die gegenüberliegende Seite als Buchsenseite ausgebildet sein muss. Die genauen Abmessungen müssen dann aufeinander abgestimmt sein, um eine fehlerfreie Kontaktierung solcher board-to-board-Steckverbinder zu gewährleisten. Sollen allerdings Leiterplatten in Bauelementen federnd kontaktiert werden oder alternativ die Leiterplatte mit der anderen Leiterplatte federnd kontaktiert werden, gibt es im Rahmen der zunehmenden Miniaturisierung deutlicher Herstellungsprobleme. Einerseits sind Kurzschlüsse zwischen den einzelnen Segmenten zu vermeiden und andererseits sollte versucht werden, auch in komplexen Werkzeugen mit vielen Kontakten diese korrekt paarweise zueinander in einem definierten Pitch (Abstand) zu beabstanden.
