Description
waited 5ta-ttc FRANKLIN B. GARLETON, OF CAMBRIDGE, VERMON-'lf Letters Patent No. 100,374, dated .March- 1, 1870.
IMPROVD SHIELD FOR PITCHERS, &c.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same I, FRANKLIN B. CARLETO'N, of Cambridge, in the county of Lamoille, and State of Vermont, have invented a new and improved Shield or Protector, to be applied to the bases of Pitchers, Basins, or other Vessels, which is described las follows:
Nature and Objects of the Invention.
My shield or protector consists of' a ring of India rubber or analogous elastic material, of such size and shape that it may be stretched over the flaring base of a pitcher, bowl, or other vessel, and when so applied, will be firmly held thereon by its own resilience.
General Description 'with Reference to the Drawings.
the various applications of the device.
The only thing essential in thel construction of the ves-l sels to which my device is applied, is that their base shall have a flaring lange, b, adapted to receive and retain the guard-ring C, which, being made of India rubber or analogous elastic material, is stretched over the and its own resilience. will be firmly retained thereon. i
To render the guard or protector more ecicient and durable, I form its'angle c, where the wear will chieily come, of greater thickness than the other parts, and I alsoform ou eachedge a bead, l d, in order to givc greater strength of resilience to those parts which are depended on to retain the guard in position.
Operation.
The manner of using my guard or protector will be apparent from the above description. It is of greatutility in preserving pitchers, bowls, and various other utensils, from injury by contactwith each other or with marble or metallic tops of wash-stands, tables, or otherarticles of furniture, and at the same time to prevent injury to such articles of furniture themselves.
It is also useful in preventing noise in the contact of the howl, pitcher, &c., with other hard objects.
. Claim..
I claim as my invention- The base shield or protector C, of rubber or analogous elastic material, when the same is constructed with projecting edges 'or beads d d, all as herein represented and described, so that the flaring flange at the base of the bowl or pitcher will be grasped within the shield, and the latter will cling theretdwithout the use of cement.
