NICHOLAS P. GREUSEL, OF IONIA, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR F ONE-HALF TO JOSEPH GREUSEL, 0F DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
BED-SHEET AND MATTRESS RETAINER.
To all whom it may concern:
' the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to beds and the principal object of the same is to provide simple means for retaining the mattress and holding the bed clothing in place so that the same will not wrinkle.
The invention may be a removable attachment for, or a permanent part of, a bed and is of particular value for use in connection with beds of hospitals wherein there is a necessity for retaining the bed clothing in position so that they will not wrinkle or become otherwise distorted thus preventing said clothing rubbing the occupant of the bed and producing bed sores.
A preferred and practical embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of a bed equipped with-the improved bed clothing holder and mattress retainer. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary central vertical sectional view thereof. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the improved holder. Fig. 4 is a fragmentary top plan view, partly in sect-ion, of one corner of the holder. Fig. 5 is a fragmentary perspective view of one corner of the-upper frame of the holder. Fig. 6 is a similar view of one member of the upper frame of the holder.
The improved holder for bed clothing and mattress retainer comprises a substantially rectangular upper frame that is composed of the side members 7 and the end members 8. The members 7 have their end portions equipped with slots 9 that are intersected by pivot bolts 10 that extend through said members 7 and engage the laterally projecting ears 11 of the latches 12. Latches 12 have angular locking lips 13 at one end and enlarged fiat heads 14 at their other end which form finger grips by means of which said latches are rocked on their pivot bolts 10. Plates 15 close the outer ends of slots 9 and project to the ends of members 7. Plates 15 overlap the cut-away portions on the outer surfaces of the ends of members 7 Specification of Letters Patent. within the recesses 16. The angular ends 19 are provided with transverse openings 20 I that are engaged by the lips 13 of latches 12 to lock the side and end members together.
The end and side members 7 and 8 are equipped with regularly spaced hanger arms 21 having right angularly arranged inwardly projecting lower ends 22 which carry the side and end members 23 and 24, respectively that form a rectangular base or clamping frame. The members 23 and 24 are not connected, but have their meeting ends 25 beveled so that flush joints will be obtained. The bottom of the clamping frame is provided with felt or other suitable soft and yielding material 26.
The base or clamping frame of the holder seats on the side members of a bed frame with the upper frame overlapping in spaced relation, the said bed frame. The mattress is placed within the holder and the bed clothing is drawn tight over the mattress and its edge portions drawn down within the upper frame, under the mat-tress, over the side and end members of the clamping frame and then tucked beneath said side and end members and is held in position by the weight of themattress and the occupant of the bed. Obviously the soft material on the bottom of the clamping frame prevents injury to the bed clothing.
It will be clear that the latch connection 12 of the members 7 and 8 permits the said members to be readily separated and thereby facilitates removal of the holder from the bed and also permits the holder to be compactly stored.
What I claim as my invention is 1. A bed clothing holder and mattress retainer comprising an upper frame formed of side and end members, means for connecting the meeting ends of said members, hanger armscarried by said upper frame, and a clamping frame carried by said hanger arms.
2. A bed clothing holder and mattress retainer comprising an upper frame, hanger arms depending therefrom, and a clamping frame carried by said arms.
3. A bed clothing holder and mattress retainer comprising an upper frame, hanger arms depending therefrom and provided; with right angular inwardly projecting lower end portions, and a clamping frame carried by the inwardly projecting lower portions of said arms.
4. A bed clothing holder and mattress retainer comprising an upper frame formed of end and side members, the side members being provided with end slots and recesses, latches pivotally mounted in said slots, plates carried by the end members and having angular ends that are fitted in said recesses, said angular ends being provided with transverse openings that are engaged by said latches, hanger arms carried by the upper frame, and a clamping frame carried by said arms.
5. Abed clothing holder and mattress retainer comprising an upper frame formed of clamping frame carried by said arms and formed of independent side and end members.
. 6. A bed clothing holder and mattress retainer comprising an upper rectangular frame, suspending means carried thereby, and a clamping frame carried by said suspending means.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
NICHOLAS P. GREUSEL.
