STAlVIP-HOLDER.
Application filed. November 1, 191'1.
specification of Letters Patent.
To all 'who-m tt 'ma/y concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN J. DAVIs, citizen of the United States, residing at Waterville, in the county of New I-Iaven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Stamp-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in-
Figure 1 a side view of a stamp holder` constructed in accordanoe with my invention. Fig. 2 a side View lof the same, with the caps removed; ``Fig. 3 a longitudinal sectional view on an enlarged scale. Fig. 4 a sectional view on the line a-b of Fig 2,' on an enlarged scale. Fig. 5 a similar view showing one end of the strip contained in tpe holder, projeeting outward through the s ot.
This invention relates to an improvement in stamp holders, the object being to provide a convenient receptacle formed from sheet metal to contain stamps and from `which the stamps may be conveniently delivered; and the invention consists in the construction hereinafter described 'and particularly re'- cited in the claims.
In carrying out my invention, I employ a casing 2 preferably formed from a piece of tubing of desired diameter around the center of which is a band 3 which may be formed integral with the tube and applied thereto, and which forms Shoulders 4, 5. The ends of the tube are formed with slots 6 and 7 one edge of which 'is turned inward to form an inwardly projecting lip 8. As herein shown a plug 9 is inserted into the center of the tube to separate the ends and so as to form chambers 10 and 11. These chambers are less in depth than the width of the strip to r depth than the width of the roll of stamps so that the stamps project beyond the ends of the tubes. When it is desired to remove a stamp the cap is removed and the roll of stamps turned in proper direction to cause the end of the strip to engage with the lip- 8 and pass through the slots 6 or 7. When the desired number of stamps is withdrawn, a strip may be conveniently cut against the opposite edge of the slot in the casing. If more stamps are drawn ofl than required, by turning the roll in the opposite direction they will be wound upon themselves in the chamber.
This device forms a'convenient receptacle for stamps and similar articles so that they may be conveniently carried in the pocket, and protects the stamps at all times against moisture.
I claim 1. A stamp holder comprising a tubular casing forming chambers at o-p osite ends, said chambers longitudinally s otted, and one edge of the slot turned inward the depth of the chamber being less than the width of the strip to be contained therein, and caps adapted to set over and inclose said chamber.
2. A stamp holder comprising a tubular casing, a central plug within the same and forming chambers at opposite ends, said chambers being less in depth than the strips to be contained therein, said lchambers formed with longitudinal slots, one edge of each slot turned inward, and caps adapted to set over and inclose said chamber and inclose said slots.
8. A stamp holder including a tubular chamber formed with a slot, the depth of the chamber being less than the strip of stamps to be contained therein, one edge of the slot turned inward, and a cap adapted to set over and close said chamber.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification in the presence of. two Subscribing witnesses.
JOHN J. DAVIS.
