Description
A; E. PASKELL. GARMENT HANGER. APPLICATION FILED MAR.2, 1912.
Patented Nov. 5, 1912.
WITNESS mmfio/ar. m gQ/Jw M TTORNIzj a ex ALBERT E. PASKELL, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
GARMENT-HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 5, 1912.
Application filed March 2, 1912. Serial No. 681,018. i
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT E. PAsKnLL, a citizen of the United States, and residing at Bronx, in the county of New York and tate of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment- Hangers, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to garment hangers, and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class having means whereby a coat or other garment may be locked in connection therewith, so that it can not be removed or detached from the hanger except by the owner thereof; and with this and other objects in view the invention consists in a device of the class specified, constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my invention are desig nated by suit-able reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is sectional front view of my improved garment hanger, and showing the same suspended in position for use :Fig. 2 a side view thereof looking in the direction of the arrow 2 of Fig. l:Fig. 3 a back view of a coat, and showing the method of connecting the same with my improved hanger, and :-Fig. 4 a cross section on the line 4 -4: of Fig. 1.
In the practice of my invention I provide a curved yoke-shaped device or hanger a which is U-shaped in cross section, and which is preferably provided with downwardly directed end members a in which are mounted anti-friction rollers b, and other anti-friction rollers c are mounted near the middle of the device, and between the rollers c and the rollers b are other rollers at similar to the rollers 0. I also provide two chains 6 connected at one end with a ring 6 the other ends of which are passed over the rollers c, and laterally through the side arms or portions of the yoke-shaped hanger a between the rollers 79, c and al and the back of said device, and each of said chains is provided at the end thereof with a ring 6 and these rings 6 serve to prevent the ends of the chains from-being drawn back between the rollers b and the backs of the end portions of the yoke-shaped device a. Loosely suspended from each of the rings e is a weight f, and I also provide a lock 9 of the padlock or other suitable class, which is connected with one of the rings 6 by a chain 9 In practice the hanger is suspended from a hook or other device it secured to the wall 1' or other support, and for this purpose the part a is provided with a ring, hook or similar device if and the hanger is permanently connected with the hook or other device h, or with the wall or other support 2', by a chain j, so that said hanger can not be detached from the wall or other support.
I also preferably connect with the wall or other support, and at a predetermined point below the hook, another hook or similar device 72 with whichthe ring 6 is adapted to be connected, and when ready for use the device appears as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
If it is desired to support the coat from the hanger suspended as shown in Fig. the ring 6 is detached from the hook and the balls f are passed downwardly through the sleeves m of the coat m, said coat being suspended from the yoke-shaped device a in the usual manner, and the rings 6 are connected by a lock 9 as shown in Fig. 3, and when the coat has thus been connected with the hanger it will be apparent that only the owner of the key of the lock can detach the coat from the hanger, and as the hanger can not be detached from the wall or other support the coat will be safe.
It will be apparent that other garments such as gentlemens vests, cloaks or other ladies garments, may be supported or suspended from the hanger in the same manner.
My invention is not limited to the use of the hook or other device 7': nor to the use of two chains 6, as a single chain of suitable length may be employedit being understood that the length of said chain, as inthe case of the chains 6 must be greater than the length of the yoke-shaped device a; and other changes in, and modifications of the construction described may be made, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A garment hanger comprising a yokeshaped device which is U-shaped in cross section, and provided adjacent to the middle thereof, and in the channel thereof with central anti-friction rollers, and in the end portions thereof with other anti-friction rollers and a chain or chains pass through the opposite end portions of said device, and between the said rollers and the back thereof said chain or chains being suspended between the central rollers and the ends thereof which are passed through the end portions of the device, being provided with means whereby they may be locked together.
2. A garment hanger comprising a yokeshaped device which is U-shaped in cross section, and provided adjacent to the middle thereof, and in the channel thereof with central anti-friction rollers, and in the end portions thereof with other anti-friction rollers and a chain or chains pass through the opposite end portions of saiddevice, and between the said rollers and the back thereof said chain or chains being suspended between the central rollers and the ends therehaving a groove or channel therein, and a chain or chains movable through said groove or channel, and said chain or chains being longer than the yoke-shaped device, and the ends of which are provided with means whereby they may be locked together.
4. A garment hanger of the class described comprising a yoke-shaped device having a groove or channel therein, and a chain or chains movable through said groove or channel, and said chain or chains being longer than the yoke-shaped device, and the ends of which are provided with means whereby they may be locked together, and said ends being also provided with weights.
5. A garment hanger of the class described, comprising a yokeshaped member, having chain guides or keepers arranged longitudinally thereof, and a chain or chains movable through said guides or keepers,
