To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, Oscar: GALOWAY MALONE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wellston, in the county of Lincoln and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in ()iling Attachments for Brooms, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in oiling attachments for brooms: and has for its object to provide a simple and inexpensive device which may be readily attached to a broom of ordinary construction and which will supply oil thereto in any desired quantities; and another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will possess advantages in points of efficiency, durability, is inexpensive of manufacture and at the same time is simple in construction and operation.

The invention consists in the novel features of construction and the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, pointed out in the claims and shown in the accompanying drawings in which,

Referring more particularly to the drawings 1 indicates a tank of suitable size and construction, but preferably of rectangular form as here shown, having a filling nipple 2 at the top thereof which is normally covered by a screw-cap 3.

An outlet pipe 4 is provided having an elbow 5 formed upon the upper end thereof which is connected to the front side of the tank near the bottom. This outlet pipe 1 is preferably made in two sections 6 and 7 threaded together as shown at 8; the upper section 7 is secured to the tank 1 While the lower section 6 is slightly curved at 9 to ward the tank so as to be disposed in the broom near the center. Secured to the lower end of the section 6 is a cross-pipe 10 disposed transversely in the broom head and provided with a series of perforations 11.

Communication between the tank 1 and the cross pipe 10 is controlled by means of a needle valve 12 having the stem 13 threaded into the upper side of the elbow 5 as shown at 14, said valve coacting with a seat 15 formed within the lower section of the outlet pipe l. The valve 12 is to be adjusted by the thumb piece 16 formed upon the upper end of the valve stem 13, said valve being held in adjusted position by means of the spring ratchet l7 engaging in the corrugations 18 formed on the thumb piece 16.

A conical shaped groove 19 is formed in the back side of the tank 1 so that said tank can be easily fitted to the broom handle, the lower end of said groove fitting tightly over the upper end of the broom head, and the upper end of the tank is secured to the handle by means of the spring hook 20, having one end pivoted to the tank at one side of the groove 19 and the other end engaging in a keeper member 21 on the opposite side of the groove.

In operation the tank 1 is filled with oil and then secured to the handle and broom head, and the lower end of the outlet pipe 1 and the cross pipe 10 are inserted into the broom near the center. Valve 12 is then opened and adjusted so as to permit desired quantities of oil to escape through the perforations 11 into the broom head. The valve 12 is held in an adjusted position by means of the ratchet spring 17.

While I have shown and described the preferred form of my invention it will be obvious that various changes in the details of construction and in the proportions may be resorted to for successfully carrying my invention into practice without sacrificing any of the novel features or departing from the scope thereof.

A broom attachment, comprisingatank, an outlet pipe secured to the front side of the tank near the bottom thereof, said pipe comprising two sections detachably c011- nected together, the lower of said sections curved rearwardly, a cross pipe secured to the lower end thereof having perforations formed therein, a valve seat carried by one of said sections, a valve carried by the other of said sections adapted to coact with said seat, a vertically extending valve stem formed on said valve and guided in said outlet pipe, valve adjusting means upon the end of said stem, and means for securing said tank. to a broom-head and handle with the cross pipe buried in the broom body.
