Description

Figure 2 shows anelevation of .the same, adapted f tothe use of females. 1
t G represents ailexible pipe or rubber, or other material, having `atthe` outer end a` tip ornozzle, j, which passes through a hole, d, in the cover cof the receiver D,which may beof earthenware, copper, or othermatelial.l l l .Y .l A' packingdisk, e,;ot` rubber, or equivalent, slides upon thetube, and tits down closely over the `orice. in the cover, thereby preventing the `escape ofodor. Tl is isone feature of improvement in my device.
Atbimbleor slide, E, also rests upon the pipe bove'thereceiver. f l Y i This is 'provided with a clasp, P, orother device of afsimilarnatnre, which serves to attachthe pipe to l `the railof thelbedstead, either inside orout, by'means of ascrew eye, q, oreqnivalent.
`This is another featureof my improvement I claim, asthereby I not only` provide a secure fastening, but the pipe O can be adjusted ythereinto any desired ength or position. i
lllrom this `pointfthe tube G extends upward, and has atthe top thefsocket or urinorlB or B', according as it is intended for maleor femalense.
For the former a simple `tubeof rubber or metal s employed; for/the latter, the upper portion of the socketiisenlarged tot properly to the member.

Letters Patent No. 105,979, dated -August 2, 1870.
` IMPaovEMEN-rfm IIR-:NAL4 ATTACHMENT To A BED.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent'and making part of the same.l
proper form, is made to lit the mouth of the socketv 4orur.i n.or,fand over the whole fits a cloth cover or wrapper, b, which envelops the Whole socket, being of and butt`ons,in place. -i
I'also claima novelty in this covering or' wrapper, as it shuts 'the i'\ vli'ole`in j securely and prevents odor.
similar shape, the top forming a flap which turns down cIt'Aalso absorbs moisture, and serves as a convenient hand-piece in handling.
These featuresabove described I believe to be new, though I am aware that the pipe has befoi'ebeen used, as shown in the patents to Willing and Van VRensselaer, thelatter dated March 17, 1868.
I disclaim` the broad principle shown in these patwf ents, and rest my claim .only on the features of im-- provement Ibave specified.
This arrangement serves a very convenient purpose ing anddangerous for invalids, and frequently destroys a'nghts rest, if' no; further difficulties follow. i It also prevents the foul ordor which is common from the open-standing of urinein the vessel, for the reason'that, when'not in use, the receiver is tight,
andthe urinor itself is covered by the wrapper b.
When not in use, the tube, is to be removed and thorougblyfcleancd'and hung up to, air.
Incases oi' extreme necessity, a thin flexible tube may be connected to the mouth of the .urinor, and thevirile member, by any device necessary for the purpose. l
I 'disclaim the broad principle of the use of a tube extending from the Vbedto a receptacle upon the door;
What Iclaim, and desire to secure by'Letters Patent is4 Y g`l'jzl'1e packing'disk e, the thmble or slide E, with t clasp p, or equivalent, the wrapper b, and the cover a, when arranged and operating in connection with the pipe C' and nrino'r B or B', inthe mannerand for thepurpose specified.
. 'Inlwitness whereof I have' hereunto signed my name, in thepresence of two subscribing witnesses.
