Description
R. W. TAYLOR & R. E. FROBENIUS.
OVEN RACK 0R BROILER.
APPLICATION FILED AUG. 2a, 1911.
1,066,552, I Patented July 8,1913.
UNITED STATES PATENT UFFICE.
ROBERT W. TAYLOR AND RAYMOND E. FROBENIUS, OF KALAIVIAZOO, MICHIGAN.
OVEN RACK OR BROILER.
Application filed. August 23, 1911.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 8, 1913.
Serial No. 645,678.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that We, Ronnu'r XV. Tar on and RAYMOND E. FROBENIUS, citizens of the United States, residing at the city of Kalamazoo, county of Kalamazoo, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oven Racks or Broilers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved oven rack or broiler.
The objects of the invention are: First, to provide a simple and efficient structure which exposes the minimum contact surface to the thing to be supported. Second, to provide a structure especially adapted as an oven rack which will support articles in a free position and expose them fully to the heat.
Objects relating to details of ope 'ation and details and economies of construction will definitely appear from the detailed de scription to follow.
lVe accomplish the objects of our iuveution by the devices and means described in the following specification.
The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure constituting an effective and preferred embodiment of our invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which:
Figure I is a perspective view of an oven rack or broiler embodying the features of our invention. Fig. II is an enlarged detail t 'ansverse sectional view through one of the longitudinal bars or sections. Fig. III is a detail perspective view of the detachable handle.
In the drawings, similar numerals of ref erence refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Considering the numbered parts of the drawing, 11 are cross base bars, preferably of channel form, on which the longitudinal sections or bars 222 are supported. The longitudinal bars are A-shaped at the center t with a flat horizontal portion 3-3 at each side. The horizontal portions are secured to the base bars by rivets 5, or the same may be spot welded, or secured in position by any suitable means.
The A-shaped bars contain numerous perforations 6-6, through the sides thereof to permit circulation of air and passage of heat, and alternately on opposite sides are struck up prongs 7 7, forming additional holes through the said sections or bars, the points of which prongs turn upward to a height substantially level with or above. the level of the apex .1; of each section to form supporting points that hold any article placed thereon with a minimum of surface contact.
The detachable handle 8 has a forwardly projecting toe 9 with a broad heel 10 for resting upon the cross bar 1 when the same is inserted under one of the A-shaped sections 9.. The handle preferably made of a loop of rod retained in position by the sheet metal clips 11 and 12, as clearly appears in Fig. Ill.
\Vc have described our improved oven rack or broiler in its most approved form. The same, however, can be varied in details without departing from our invention. The holes may be omitted in the sections. The sections may be assembled in any suitable way.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In an oven rack or broiler, the cross base bars and longitudinal sections of sheet metal A-shaped in form, suitably perforated at the sides with prongs struck upwardly therefrom, the points of which are upwardly turned and project upwardly to coact with the apexes of said longitudinal sections to present a surface of supporting points, the said longitudinal sections being secured to the said cross bars, and a detachable handle with a too for insertion into the angle of one of the said sections and a broad heel portion to rest on the cross bar therebeneath, as specified.
2. In an oven rack or broiler, the cross base bars and longitudinal sections of sheet metal A-shaped in form, suitably perforated at the sides with prongs struck upwardly therefrom, the points of which are upwardly turned and project upwardly to coact with the apexes of said longitudinal sections to present a surface of supporting points, the said longitudinal sections being secured to the said cross bars, as specified.
3. In an oven rack or broiler, the cross our hands and seals in the presence of two base bars and longltudmal sections of sheet Witnesses.
metal A-shaped in form, and a detachable ROBERT W TAYLOR handle With a toe for insertion into the an- RAYMOND FR'OBEMUS 5 gle of one of the said sections and a broad heel portion to rest on the cross bar therebe l/Vitnesses:
neath, as specified. LUELLA Gr. GREENFIELD,
In Witness whereof, We have hereunto set PEARL E. LILLIE.
