To all whom iii-may concern Be it' known that l, lEnNs'r MECKBACH, doctor of philosophy, chemist, citizen of the German Empire, residing at Vohwinkel, near El-berfeld, Germany, have invented new and useful Improvements in Decalcomania Materials, of which the following is a specification.
In the practice of decalcomania or the ornamentation of wood, glass, porcelain,-.stone- Ware, etc., by transferring pictures from a carrier of paper and other substances to the materials to be decorated, the picture or design is formed of pigment or pigments held in a body or layer of a special binder mounted on such paper or other substance. Upon application to the surface of the material to be ornamented and moistening, the layer carrying the design loosens from the'carrier and adheres to such surface. The binder must of course be of such nature that upon moistening with water it Will not disintegrate or allow the design to change in shape while at the same'time it must develop adhesion to the new surface and loosen its adhesion to the old. And upon redrying after transfer it must become hard and solid.
lln the prior art, the colors have been em- 7 ployed in connection with a binder of watersoluble mucilaginous substances, such as gum I am able to make materials for decalcomania from which designs can be transferred as layers in the manner familiar in the prior art and which do not crack or peel ofi from the decorated material as has been the case heretofore.
In order to illustrate myinvention, the following example is given, the parts being by weight:-10 parts of colophonium are dissolved with five parts of sodium carbonateiin 40 parts of water, 80 parts of barytes Specification of Letters Patent.

white (BaS,-) are mixed with this mass which is then dyed with 3 parts of fast brown. This composition is then applied to a carrier, usually of a textile or fibrous na ture, such as paper to produce the desired design or pattern. Such a carrier is of course insoluble in water and can thus be stripped bodily from the colored design after the olecalcomania material has been applied to the article to be decorated and moistened in the usual way. Instead of allraline'salts of the resin acids of colophonium, salts of the acids of copals, 0r waxes, or stearic acid, etc. may be used.
What if claim is 1. In decalcomania materials, a carrier of sisting of salts of high-molecular aliphatic acids of saponifiable matter and incorporated coloring matter, and being free of water-soluble gummy or'mucilaginous substances.
2. In decalcomania materials, acarrier of textile material having supported thereon and readily detachable therefrom a layer carrying a design or pattern, such layer consisting of a soap of high-molecular aliphatic acids of saponifiable matter and incorporated coloring matter, and being free of water-soluble gummy or .mucilaginous substances. p
3. Tn decalcomania materials, a carrier of textile material having support-ed thereon and readily detachable therefrom a layer carrying a design or pattern, such layer consisting of a sodium sea of high-molecular aliphatic acids of sapomfiable matter and incorporated coloring matter, and being free coloring matter, and being free of water-' soluble gummy or mucilaginous substances. 5. lln decalcomania materials, a barrier of paper having supported thereon a layer readily detachable therefrom, said layer carrying a design or pattern and consistlng of a soap with coloring matter incorporated therewith, and being free of water-soluble gummy or mucilaginous substances.
6. In decalcomania materials, a carrier of paper having supported thereon a layer readily detachable therefrom, said layer carrying a design or pattern and consisting of a soap of a high-molecular aliphatic acid having coloring matter incorporated therewith, and being free of water-soluble gummy or mncilaginous substances.
7. In decalcomania materials, a carrier of paper having supported thereon a layer readily detachable therefrom, said layer carrying a design or pattern and consisting of a sodium soap of a resin acid having coloring matter incorporated therewith, and being free of water-soluble gummy or mucilaginous substances.-
8. In decalcomania materials, a carrier of 9. In decalomania materials, a water-hr soluble backing carrier layer provided with an attached design layer composed of soap and coloring matter and free of gummy, oily or hygroscopic substances.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
nansr MEGKBACH.
