The invention is primarily designed to provide a chair itor children and aims to supply an article of this nature which is llight iu structure, capable oit being cheaply constructed and adapted to resist hard usage, the chair .involving a minimum :number ol" parts and a comparatively simple structure whereby it may be supplied at a nominal cost.

The invention provides a chair in which the iframe, embodying the arm rests and legs, is 'formed oit a single piece, such as a wire or bar, and in which the seat and back are formed ot' a single blank, thereby enabling the chair as a whole being formed with a minimum number of joints.

The invention consists of the novel features, details of construction and combina tion of parts, which hereinafter will be more particularly set forth, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the appended claim.

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description, and indicated in all the views of the drawings, by the same reference characters.

The frame of the chair is formed of a single length of stout wire or bar iron bent into the shape substantially as shown and comprising a back frame l, arm rests 2 and legs 3. The body of the chair consists of a seat 4 and a back 5 both forming parts of a single piece of sheet material, preferably of metal. The back frame 1 appears of loop form and is located at the middle of the Wire or metal bar from which the frame is constructed. Each of the legs 8 is likewise ot' loop form, the inner members inclining inwardly so as to come beneath the seat 4 and form a substantial support therefor. The arm rests 2 constitute end portions of the Spcclcation of Letters Patent.

'lhe outer edge portions olE the back 5 are secured to the back trame l in any manner, either by being bent about the said trame or by heilig soldered or riveted thereto. The seat is supported upon the inner members o't" the legs 3 and its it'ront and rear portions are positively connected to the front and rear members of the legs 8 in any manner. 'lhe seat may be strengthened and still'ened by bending the trout and side edges downwardly to form flanges, said llangesibeing positively connected to the outer members ol the legs 3 in any manner. The back may be einbellished in any manner or may receive suitable matter according to the inish of the chair.

In some instances the chair may be provided with a table (i, which may be used for supporting a slate, table, book or sun dry articles and which may be also used as means for preventing a child falling from the chair when placed therein. The table may be connected to the back of the chair by means o't" roos 7, the latter being pivotally connected to the back to admit of the table G being thrown upwardly out of the way when it is required to place the child in the chair or remove it therefrom. The rods 7 may form parts of a U-shaped frame to the outer portion of which the table G is attached in any manner. Brackets 8 are attached to the side members of the back frame l and have the rear ends of the rods 7 pivotally connected thereto. The rods 7 are adapted to engage the arm rests 2 so as to support the table G in proper position.

It is also proposed to provide the chair with rockers, the latter serving as means for .connecting the lower ends of the legs 3 so as to prevent spreading thereof. The

rockers 9 are preferably constructedof stout Wire or bar metal, the ends of Which are recurved, as'indicated at 10 and 11, to make connection with the lower ends of the legs 8. The recurved portions 10 and l1 constitute springs which yieldingly support the chair and give a spring action thereto. By forming each rocker and the recurved end portions thereof of a single blank or length of material the rocker as a Whole possesses a spring action which affords ease and comfort to the occupant of the chair.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection With the accompanying drawings, the advantages of the construction and of the method of operation Will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art to Which the invention appertains, and While I have described the principle of operation of the invention, together with the device which now consider to be the embodiment thereof, l desire to have it understood that the device shoWn is merely illustrative, and that such changes may be made when desired Lof/linie as are Within the scope of the claim appended hereto.

Having thus described the invention What is claimed as new, is

A chair having its back frame, legs and arm rests integral and formed from a single Wire which is 4doubled upon itself to form the loa-ck frame and the outer members of the rear legs, said Wire having its end portions further bent to provide the innerV members of the rear legs and to form the front legs, which latter are of loop shape, the outer members of the front legs extending above the inner members of both the frontand rear legs, and the end portions' of the Wire being further bent to form the arm rests and having their extremities secured to the side members of the back frame.
